OEM 1750mah extra battery/charger - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well I was looking for spare batteries and came across these. I ordered a pair and will get them sometime this week. I decided to share the link if anyone is looking for spare battery with a charging station for the battery. For me this should be fine since I can usually get through the day with a full charge and on certain occasions a small charge when I play some games and having a spare would be great. At this good price
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=150847911009&index=0&nav=WATCHING&nid=47731270809
Edit: the batteries don't seem to be OEM and overheat my phone. Im not sure of any long term effect this may on our phones, but I personally won't take this risk.

Yeah I was a bit skeptical at first, but worst case scenario its only $13. I'll update when they arrive

it's probably a china battery. I have the same brand charger for my G2 and I keep my oem battery in it just incase. That battery probably won't have nfc, but it should serve well as a back up.

You need to check if the battery is fake. I got 2 with the charger from ebay for 18.99. First sign that it was fake was the NFC didn't work even though the sticker says Near Field Communication on it. You can also check the voltage with AndroSensor from the play store. The real battery puts out 3.716 volts where as the fake one puts out 3.8 somethng. Im not sure if it is even safe to use . I was looking for info on it when I found this post.I found that in china they sell the blank batteries that are identical shape and size to the real batteries and will even put the stickers on for you... Im pretty sure yours is fake too from the price. Samsung sells these batteries for $30+
Edit- if it does turn out to be fake you should change the name of the post to fake OEM batteries. My seller was Feng4258 located in china and he had a pretty good rating like 98%. The 2% were accusing him of selling fake or defective batteries. I wish I would have checked that before I bought. I'm requesting a refund now and if he doesn't comply I'm going to be opening a case with PayPal and ebay.

Thanks for the input, well if NFC doesn't work then that's not a huge loss for me as it is still pretty useful for me at least. I'll be sure to check the voltage and how good it performs.

Update: yeah turns out that you were right. The batteries do hold a voltage well over 3.7. I just contacted the seller about this issue and hope to get a refund or will have to contact eBay. Thanks again for your input.

Is there a condition that the battery has to be in in order to measure the voltage? My understanding is that the battery voltage is not a constant property of the battery but changes depending on it's state of charge (ie fully charged, half charged, completely drained, etc). If that is the case I don't think you can "spot" a fake battery by voltage.

Is it useful?

Yeah I'm going to have to keep doing some more research when I get home because I noticed that my original battery on occasions rises well above the 3.7V. The batteries do work though. Hold a fairly same charge that I've noticed

With my stock battery, andro sensor says im running at 3.86 volts?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Yes you are correct at the time my original battery what showing 3.7 and the fake was showing 3.8 but from what I've read its just a matter of charge level. The batteries work fine and in my experience are safe to use. With that said they are not OEM and really the only way to tell is to check the NFC. Also if they come in anything other than a Samsung case then they are probably fake. I told my seller I was going to open a close with eBay and PayPal to gt my money back and he sent a message back the next day saying "Very sorry, seller very misleading. Money back in account, check please!" I tried calling Samsung before just to make sure but they can't tell a fake from the s/n. If the NFC feature isn't present its a fake. Contact your seller immediately and demand a refund. Enjoy your free fake batteries. The charge holds alright but it does suck their isn't any NFC especially since Google wallet has started to support all major credit cards.

Is this with the battery fully charged or half way? All lithium batteries fully charge around 4.2v, for phones I assume they will fully charge around 4.1v or so.
3.7v is just the voltage that is recommended for long term storing of the battery to prevent wear.

Yeah I personally would not recommend these batteries. They have started to overheat my phone and the voltage never gets below 3.86. I don't really use NFC so I can't really say if that works or not.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Yea i been noticing that the higher the battery level the higher the voltage, and it goes down as the battery level goes down. So im not so sure about the voltage being an indicator. NFC is the only way to tell. I just bought a battery from a seller in south korea and its real, nfc works and all. The label and writing looks abit different though, im assuming its because its a korean made battery not made in korea and finished in china

I was hoping to get a recommendation on one of the 2000mah batteries, but if I could win it cheaply, it'd be worth checking out. Maybe I'll buy one of those wall chargers too. I could easily carry the extra battery in my wallet.
Thanks!
I never saw a 2000mah battery. I want to let you know, don't expect what you see in the picture. Those 1500mah ones are probably unbranded. It doesn't make a difference, as long as they work, I guess.

Just won the auction and got them for 9.50 plus 4.99 shipping. The ones pictured appear unbranded as well. They don't say HTC. And if they aren't actually yellow, it doesn't matter. Until someone makes a clear back plate, no one will see.
Thanks again!!
Jake
I'm a lil weary of those cheap non branded extended life batteries. If you go on amazon and read some of those reviews the users complain about this batteries not working after a certain amount of recharge cycles. The best off brand to trust has been seidio. Other than that just go oem. With a price that low it sounds like you could end up spending another $9.50 in a couple more months. Now, I love my ebay but that sounds too suspect.

'you can return it anytime if you done think the battery is what you exoected
but you will need to pay to ship it back
thank you'
I'm weary of buying them too, but he did say I can return 'anytime' and I plan on holding him to that word. If I get them, I'll test them with a voltmeter each week and ship them right back. Even if it's 6 months later haha.
Well I got them already... They seem to last longer than the stock battery. Who knows if it will last, but they are good now.
Glad I made the purchase.

How much longer we talking about? Just a couple hours?
Yeah... Just a couple hours. I'm not saying it is significantly better than OEM. I'm just saying it will work great as a backup. I also got a wall charger so one battery will be kept in my wallet as a backup and I will charge them both each night.

The reviews I've seen on these cheap batteries always seem to indicate that they aren't actually what they say they are rated, and testing shows that they don't last as long as the OEM batteries.
After a few days of use, I do not see much difference between stock 1200 and this 1700. Only payed 9.99 with free shipping, so not bad for a spare battery.

Don't believe the hype. It's pretty hard to make a battery with a higher capacity that is cheaper and is the same physical size. These batteries are compressed into these small packages and to increase the capacity without using more cells or larger cells, would constitute using more exotic materials, which would cost more. At best, these batteries are equal to OEM, but most are lower grade knock offs. The best application for any of these batteries is backup use
I bought 2 1500's for $20 off of Ebay.and yes i do see about about 2-3 difference with them.. no its not much of a difference but they do actually work.. so the hype is real..
i've always been wary of buying batteries, particularly laptop batteries, online.
ie safety/actual capacity/quality
is there a similar issue for phone batteries?

[Q] Samsung OEM Battery

I wanted to buy a spare battery for my Captivate. I went to ebay an found many OEM Batteries sold at a cheaper price compared to the one sold on Samsung shop.

Keep in mind, that even though the eBay batteries say "OEM" - it has been shown that they are not original samsung batteries. These Hong Kong sellers list everything as OEM - usually they say "an OEM battery manufacuter" - implying that the batteries are made by "somebody" that makes original equipment for some manufacturer.
I don't want to scare you; for $3 apiece the batteries work well, but many have been reporting occasional reboots or batteries that only charge to 80%. Even the ones that say Samsung are usually knockoffs.
I bought one of the Samsung batteries from Ebay. I was not sure if it was a knockoff that looked real or not and really still don't. It does outlast my original battery though. Neither are great but for whatever reason I get better performance out of the Ebay one. It is dated July 12, 2010 and the one that came in my phone is dated Nov 10, 2010. I crush them both daily as I stay on the phone and internet a lot. I'm ordering another one.
Nifty idea
Do this. I went to ebay and typed in "Samsung Captivate battery charger". For only $8(including shipping) I got a wall charger for my samsungs batteries AND TWO batteries! They came from Hong Kong but both after-market batteries last as long or longer than the stock battery. That and I haven't plugged my phone into the wall since the end of August. I have a battery in the wall charger while I'm not using it and when the one in my phone is about to die I simply change the batteries and put the dead one on the charger. I keep the third fully charged and in my car. It makes life sooooo much easier and I never have to worry about a dead phone no matter how much I use it which is a lot! I have done the same for my Nexus One and totally recommended this to anyone, heavy user or not. Lets see you do THAT iPhone!

Yeah, it is not the original battery. It's a generic one. I hope this works well as the original ones. I heard complaints (from AMAZON.com) about that certain generic batteries that can't charge from the phone; can be only charged using the provided charger.

I just got in the two batteries! I really like it so far but too soon to tell I guess.
Ran into my first issue. As nissy86 said, I can't charge from the phone - it turns off completely after leaving it charge for too long.
I'm quite happy with my purchase! I can charge from the phone, but if I leave it too long at 100% it shuts off. Otherwise, works perfect. I am just leaving the OEM batter in the phone, and keeping the two around as needed and I am happy

Do NOT need to change back cover; Increase Cellphone Battery Life;
the part im confused about is where it says they are 1700 mAh but the the capacity is listed at 1500 mAh ....... any1 have any ideas?
These started out at $29 and now they have went up to $49. I would say they would perform below stock battery standards, less than 1300....
you definitely don't wanna cheap out on the battery on such a battery thirsty phone, go with OEM or a reputable 3rd party manufacturer (Seidio, etc)
The part you should be concerned about is how they are using the Japan tsunami for advertising. My advice? Don't buy it.

HTCexpress is selling the same battery. The capacity is listed as 1700mah, and they updated the description on amazon. It's probably still a little suspect, but people were all excited about the 2x1500mah batteries on ebay. Does anyone have any success getting batteries from HTCexpress?

It's the same seller as the one posted in the link above. I've bought from them before when I had my G2. I bought two 1800ma batteries. I had no way to really test if the battery were really 1800, but I did see a significant increase in battery life. Many G2 owners bought batteries from this seller. There should be several battery threads still floating around in the G2 forums where these red batteries are mentioned. If the seller didn't hike up the price is would have already bought them.

Cool, look forward to seeing your review. if its a real 1700 with a good % of actual power it would add quite a bit of time to our battery life.
I bought a package, but went through the eBay store instead. I chose their Buy It Now or Best Offer, and pitched $40 out, it was automatically rejected. Then I got an email about 2-3 minutes later with a second chance offer accepting my $40 so I took it.
Still a decent value.

Gold 2450mAh battery from ebay

Just wanted to report in with my experience of these large capacity batteries.
I purchased 2 of them along with a generic external charger and they are far better than the stock ones.
Currently been going for 48 hours and still at 25%. I was struggling to get 12 hours out of the stock battery.
They seem like reasonable quality and for around 10AUD each they are decent value. They fit under the stock cover too which is a bonus.
Anyone else using these?

Currently been going for 48 hours and still at 25%. I was struggling to get 12 hours out of the stock battery.
They seem like reasonable quality and for around 10AUD each they are decent value. They fit under the stock cover too which is a bonus.
Anyone else using these?

I bought 1 too, thinking it was only a stock battery or a cheaper one with beautiful wrapping and it surprised me. Last way much longer than usual one and yes it fit under stock cover.

Thanks for this info ! Would you post some pictures of the battery itself and some of usage stats , please ?
Most likely it is fake. Recently I bought 'gold' battery for my old SE K800 from ebay. Printed capacity on label was almost double than original battery but in fact real capacity was half of original. So, returned to seller and lost shipping costs only.
Unfortunately physics is in full force for batteries: at the moment larger capacity can be achieved only by more or larger sells!!!
I'm actually MORE than happy with original Samsung 2000MAh battery. I would NEVER put a fake or low quality battery close to my face.

Well that confirms all these uprated batteries are in fact rubbish with the exception of the much larger 3500mah one and even that was nowhere near the stated 3500mah rating
The gold batteries from Ebay are all fake. Don't waste your time. Peel off the gold cover, under it, you'll find an under powered rating.this batteries have already been discussed at xda over and over with picture evidences to show they are fake. Go buy a jaguar for 10 bucks and tell me it's real.

I just bought one from ebay too. A gold 2450 mAh battery.
After I received it I put it in the mobile and battery snap from the market tells me the same remaining time as the stock 1650 mAh battery.. Then I peeled off the gold wrapper and underneath I found this inprint "HD504655AR 11K08NF1650".. 1650 ?? Strange coincidence ...
I opend a case with ebay requesting my money back because this looks like a fraud. I'll have to wait several days for it to close, but I will tell you how it ended...
I can only tell you that I should have read the posts here about the "gold" batteries.. Damn fakes!
Ok, so can anyone tell me how to identify a genuine Samsung battery?
My phone came with a battery that looks almost identical to eBay item 110825200405, except that mine says "Finished in Vietnam" and the recycle symbol is a bit different.
The supposedly genuine batteries on eBay (e.g. eBay item 140704498924) look quite different.
I got my phone from Orange/Partner in Israel and I'm wondering if they are using cheap aftermarket batteries to save money. Anyway, I want to buy a spare but I want to make sure that I'm getting my moneys worth for a battery that has the actual marked capacity and that will last.
Thanks.
Glad to trade abt the gold batteries here. I was abt to use a pair for myself
"Gold Batteries"
Bump.
I was about to post a big thing with a battery log that I kept for the first 5 charges of my new "Gold" battery along with how unimpressed I was and that it didnt seem any better than my stock 1250mAh. The new battery was supposedly 2450mAh. after reading the post 2 posts above mine I decided to remove the gold foil to look at the stamps on mine. I see nothing to indicate the mAh capacity on mine but after using it for a month I can say for sure that it is no better than my stock battery. I am not going to file it with ebay or anything but it sure seems like there are a lot of fakes out there. Mine came from Ghuang Dong china or something like that... lol. Anyway I only paid 6.99$ with no shipping and have a functional spare battery now so, oh well. Lesson learned. Figured I'd give my 2 cents.

Oops. Just realixed this is for samsungs. Mine was for HTC Inspire. Probably all the same though... My bad.
my 2 bits worth
Just got the ebay GOLD (haha) battery as well but paid like 4 bux for it - FWIW it seems to hold a charge longer though it charges lightning fast which leads me to believe that it is indeed not 2450mah
After having done a bit of research, mah is a tricky thing to verify - can be done with a multimeter BUT there is a device called a battery-analyzer that does the trick. So these ppl that sell the possibly fraud batteries have tapped a great market: people (mostly) without the gear or know-how to check the quality of the goods!
regardless i needed a second battery so no loss for me. Now if it explodes or something I will report here first and I will not leave my 5star feedback for the "gold battery people" just yet
UPDATE
***so the gold battery performance is incredibly poor - last less and less time with each charge***
I'd advise anyone to absolutely not bother with one of these

Can you post picture of this genuine Samsung 200mAh battery? Is the size same as 1650mAh one?

the 2000mah is a bit bigger (that is why it needs a new cover plate)
I have an 1800mah (also a bit bigger) but fits nicely in the phone.

Chichitec 2500mah extended battery

What's up everybody, I just ordered these & hoping they'll do the job. I've ordered from them twice before (nexus one, evo 3d), the batteries in the past have held up pretty good but I don't think these have nfc :/ I ended up ordering these cuz' the qcell nfc enabled ones were sold out/unavailable so I didn't wanna' wait, plus I haven't seen a review on these yet so I said eh, I'll try em' out. If you guys are interested in purchasing some for yourselves I've included the link below, the only thing is that you have to pay using google checkout :/

another 3.7v batter that will die very fast if you use your phone to charge, due to overcharging. as our stock batteries full charge voltage is 4.3 where as that one is 4.2v
unless somehow our phones can distinguish the battery difference,

I always use the supplied wall charger that comes with these so Idk, lots of the extended battery reviews on here are the same voltage & they seem to be doing pretty good.
It's not the charger which matters but the phone itself which charges the battery, it's aiming for 4.3V as that's what it thinks it should have as the stock battery is designed for that. Although I haven't heard a single case of these 4.2V batteries having problems with being charged with 4.3V, that last part can be changed in the kernel and the charger chip driver. I'm getting some knock-off cheap battery myself so I'll see how it goes. This particular one seems quite steep in price @ $30, with proven ones like the PolarCell 2400mAh going out for half the cost.
you won't see the affect right away from overcharging. I use to play with a lot of batteries from RC, overcharging something we use to do get slight edge and boost at start. but it does have long term damage to batteries, specially lithium based. some cheaper batteries even catch fire.
Alright guys, got the batteries in the mail today, charging one & will report back later

Li-ion batteries have an overcharge protection circuit built into the battery pack itself and should prevent this from happening. If everything is working as intended, it should be impossible for the phone to overcharge a battery. That's not to say the protection circuit couldn't fail itself.
And I too played with RC batteries and you really can't compare those batteries with these. Different types of battery with different methods of charging.
It just keeps getting better & better

Based off of Amazon, these batteries are the same size as the stock battery.
From Amazon's Description: "Standard Size Do not need to change bulky back cover, increase battery life"

Any updates regarding your experience with these batteries? I used to own this brand for my HTC Sensation and was very pleased with it. Almost had about 400+ recharge cycles before the battery started to wear out. Looking forward on your feedback!
