Audio streaming quality post EK02 - "popping" or "clicking" via bluetooth
Anyone experiencing any popping, clicking or static when streaming music from Pandora, Google Music, etc.
I tested streaming using a EG30 versus a EK02 updated E4GT and on the EK02 I am getting an intermittent click or pop on music playback. This used to happen on the Evo 4G a while back, but an update fixed it at some point. I stream my music via bluetooth to my car stereo.
Anyone else experiencing this?

You're not talking about the normal horrible stock Android Bluetooth sound? Where the audio sounds too "hot " or just distorted?

especially during high pitched sound? such as a guitar solo or cymbols?
if so, this is typical for Stock android devices. the only think I know of that fixes is it Cyanogen.
they got a whole lot of nowhere over in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708685
except to verify that it's pretty much a stock thing on most android phones. Which is F'ing idiotic. Who would be android's biggest competitor? iphones? how did people start on that? replacing their ipod, right? yeah...ipods don't have this problem and it pisses me off to no end that no phone manufactures give a damn to fix it.

Just an fyi, I can guarantee that this is not an android problem. I know this because this problem has been plaguing me for a while, and the only satisfaction I got was when I had the nexus s. The problem lies somewhere in the Bluetooth stack that Samsung (and some other manufacturers implement). Its either the fact that the encoding is changed from mp3 to something else (I forget which format), or they changed the lowered the bitpool to increase range but sacrifice quality.
I'm dying for someone to find a solution to this.

I am no audiophile but I agree. Using pandora, poweramp and radio.com all work with no noticeable issues on an old set of Motorola bluetooth stereo headphones.

Pretty sure it's the Bitpool setting. CM7 worked wonders on my Evo 4G on this issue. In fact, it's now why I have my wife's Evo and she has the S2.
I'd really describe the sound as more of a cracking noise that is especially prevalent on guitars and/or cymbals.
I'd be completely pleased with the stock ROM and simply setting the Bitpool higher.
Resurrecting this thread, searched forum to no avail. Does anyone know of a fix to this problem? I just purchased a new JVC KD-X50BT headunit for my car and am experiencing this annoying, no, unacceptable noise while streaming from my Epic Touch. My wife has the GS3 & it sounds amazing when using it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Just to clarify, the issue is that the audio over bluetooth makes it sound like the tweeters are blown (they aren't http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/wink.gif), it's only really noticeable in higher frequencies, and only over bluetooth.

I am one of only a few people that share your same experience. For more info check these threads here and here.
So far, my research tells me it basically has to do with the bitpool setting in the kernel. Times_Infinity's AOKP seems to be the only ROM with the bitpool set high enough to eliminate the problem. I hope to soon dive into kernel source myself and see if I can do some bitpool editing and see how far it goes on other ROMs. No promises though.
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like it's been narrowed down to the Bluetooth stacks. Subscribed to your thread & hope for some progress toward resolving this issue. Fwiw, I have the problem regardless of the source. SD card (via PowerAmp), Pandora, calls, all same experience over Bluetooth. Le stink! Lol
solution
Keep the screen on while streaming ...problem solved ...some how when screen goes of connection becomes staticky .....but it will drain the battery fast ....u can adjust the screen brittleness setting to lowest to save battery. ...
Hi, all,
When I talk on this phone, the sound is very poor... Although not too loud (like other complaints) but the sound crackles at high frequencies... The speakerphone is even worse... If I lower the volume, it gets better but sometimes a low volume won't help me with the conversation.
Is it my phone only or everyone experiences that? Are there any tweaks, settings to fix that ?
Thanks!
My phone seems fine and I haven't heard of this issue yet. Maybe I just haven't read up enough but it might just be that you got a bad phone. Exchanging would be the quickest way to get it replaced

Mine actually sounds pretty good.

Hey guys,
Wanted to know if anyone is having an issue with Gnex speaker.
When the speaker makes a sound, as in locks, key tap, volume up down sound, anything, it hisses for a couple of seconds then like cuts out with a CB like noise. Soooo annoying!!!
Cheers is advance. = )
Yes this is annoying. It happens to everyone with sounds enabled.

You just aren't noticing it. Play a sound with your head up to the speaker and when the sound stops, you will hear a VERY FAINT hiss and then pop.
It's been noted by many users on the google bugs forum. It's annoying.
I assumed it was just really bad recordings? I was going to pull and re-sample my ringtone and SMS tones to see if I could fix it, might not be worth the effort if it's the phone.
So its normal?? Really?
Geez, that's a bummer, pretty annoying and very, I dunno, cheap. = (
I was hoping it was just me. So it could indeed be fixed with software?
I thought it might of been the hardware. = / Good and bad news in a way. So there's nothing we can do atm is there?
Thanks guys.
I gave friend also who has a Gnex and his has no noise like this at all. It's sweet.
This is strange.

No that's the confusing part. I have another thread asking about firmware updates aswell...not going to bring that into this but he's on 4.0.3....isn't the latest 4.0.2?
Anyway, so your thinking if you wanted to you could change roms and it would get rid of that noise?
ive noticed ive ran into this issue only when using volume+
Oh really?
Nah I have it just straight out of the box.
I just got a replacement Gnex and its still doing this f'king noise!!! Its so annoying!! What can I do??

Could you post? I'm doing a little brainstorming here and if its the build, I'm gonna change!! Haha.
Thanks I'm advance. = )
Do any of you actually realize that every speaker on the planet does this?
Apply power to speaker, it will hiss. Cut power from speaker, it will pop.
And seriously, why are any of you putting your ear up to the speaker port anyways? You do realize you must look like fools...
Is there anyway to get louder bluetooth volume on a phone call and better quality.. I had the sammy victory 4g and volume was crazy loud and quality of sound was amazing for a cheap low end phone

I am using a blue parrot headset.
I'm using a Plantronics Voyager Legend and the volume does seem a little low even at maximum. It can be a bit staticy sometimes as well. Neither issue is so bad as to be annoying though. I had thought that the issue was with the Plantronics, but I suppose it's just as likely that the problem is with the Note. I haven't searched for a solution yet.

Silly question...but did you turn it up? I think there is a setting that adjusts in call volume to a lower level by default
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I've seen the same thing. Its a software thing because on Jellybomb 5.1 the volume us definitely louder but still not loud enough. My same BT headset was much louder on my Evo and is much louder on my WP7.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Ya I just wish I was smart enough to figure it out I have tried multiple Bluetooth headsets and all them get quiet when you start taking but use thm on other phones and are louder
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Any super smart developer that can figure this out there has to tweaks somewhere to increase the max volume
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I would Definitely say its a problem with the note. The volume is way low on a call. I use a Moto hx550 and my GS3 worked great with it.
I have been following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931970
and tried the tweaks by editing manually, but it didnt help bluetooth volume. So I'm either not tweking the right volume values or there will have to be another solution found. Its frustrating, but hopefully something will come out of one of these threads...
I have an issue with my Note 2 Bluetooth quality as well. Using Motorola Elite Silver. Seems to be perfectly fine with playing music and as soon as I initiate a call the quality degrades their voice breaks up as well as mine. Works fine with other devices, currently have tried on a couple different ones in the Sprint store I work at.

What rom/kernel are you running? If its a tw rom with a compatible kernel you could try STweaks.
It has an option to increase standard volume limits.

Hmmm, its got to be rom related then. If your headset works fine on a different phone, then thats all thats left. There is one last option for you
I use a jawbone icon I got fron ebay.
What really made the difference for me...jabra ear gels. They look crazy! But they hold inside the ear without a hook. An it tunnels the sound dramatically. $6 for a full set left and right.
Honestly bud, this made night and day difference! Sadly their not available in any store anymore. But online everywhere!
If sound is this much an issue for you. I would say the $6 is worth a try.

There should really be a VLC-like setting on all ROMs that allows you to go above 100% on bluetooth volume if you choose to.
I have two sets of headsets. Both are Skullcandy but different models. They both worked on my Galaxy Nexus & Evo LTE.
The sound works fine. The Mic doesn't. Plus, if they are plugged into the phone and someone calls I can hear them. They cannot hear me through the phone or Mic because it disables the phones mic when they are plugged in.
The headset Mic works for recording sound with apps off the market. The only time the Mic doesn't work is for phone calls.
Is there a fix? Does anyone else have this problem? The phone didn't come with a headset in the box so if LG has done proprietary headset stuff they didn't have a way to eleviate it.
Thanks

There is a known issue with headsets designed for apple products where the mic doesn't work. I had the same issue with mine using iPhone 5 earphones. I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software limitation, or if they plan on fixing it. As soon as I find out, I'll be sure to post it.
I can confirm that holding down the center button on the headphones works for Bose MIE2i as well. Awesome!
