Hello, I'm reinbeau, and I am honored to have been appointed Forum Moderator for the Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking subforum. I'm here to help you and I expect the same from all of you. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
I've been on xda-developers for over a year now, mostly visiting the Captivate forums and supporting where I can with the knowledge I've gathered on this great site. I've learned a lot here, hopefully I can share some of that knowledge - and learn more!
If you have any issues you need help with, please feel free to contact me through PM, or report the post by using the "!" button in the post.
Also, I will be doing some forum maintenance (combining threads regarding the same topics, moving threads or posts to proper sections and closing off-topic threads) to make it easier to find information here.

I am new to the forum world but my husband is an expert. I have a question that I have been searching google and every other search engine before I posted this. My husband and I have the same phone (bought at the same time) and it is a mytouch 3G 3.5mm Jack. He received the froyo 2.2.1 Android update for his phone a couple of days ago. I have yet to receive mine and I wanted to know if there is any way for me to manually update mine so I don't have to wait for the OTA update?
Thanks for the help and letting me join this forum,
Ashley

Hey guys....glad to be part of this forum....xda, u guys are the best!
Hi, I've been nosing around here for a couple of months and thought I might need to admit to someone that I am addicted to this site and modding my Captivate. I really enjoy learning new things about my phone.
My Device: Samsung Captivate i897 running Dilli's Rom 5.6, Blue theme, and lovin every minute of it!
Dear fellow Xda/S3 user,
We could use your help. As you may or may not know Verizon/Samsung has seen fit to lock our S3's down with an encrypted bootloader. Although we have many great developers working to crack it; we could really use your help letting Verizon/Samsung know the Xda community as a whole does not appreciate any attempt of oppression of our “Developmental Freedom.”
Please go to the link below and help out your fellow Xda'er

Hey Guys!!
I wanted to thank you guys here on the XDA GNex Community.
As you guys can probably see from my post count I am not a very active member but I have been here for a fair while; I'm not an active member simply because I am not a developer of any kind and XDA is a site meant to be for devs exchanging ideas and help with other devs. But i'm glad they choose to help the regular guy!!
I just wanted to say how awesome you guys are who have managed to help n00b users become more knowledgeable by helping them with any issues they have; like how to change screen brightness, change volume settings and the like to all the way to Rooting, ROM and Kernel guides and indeed ALL the help you guys give to WHEN they do it wrong.:highfive:
I want to thank you for all the patience you have had what with the same questions and plea's for help for the same issues (HELP - I BRICKED MY DEVICE) type of threads or the dramas we have all seen in various threads which somehow always degenerates to "Hitler liked that, you like that, therefore you = Hitler" :silly:
I want to thank all the MODS that have tried to keep this place sane because they have done an amazing job!! :good:
I would like to thank efrant and Jubakuba for the quality of work they have done on their guides and the personal help they have given to various people! You guys have helped the community so much!! I know if i ever see a thread started by you, the info is a definite must read!!
I would also like to thank BigBrother1984 and Team PA because to be entirely honest; you guys are the whole reason why I rooted my phone. Your ROM is something that I intend to have on all my future devices.
To all members of the GNex Community:
Thank you for being an Awesome bunch of people!!
Just saying this in advance, if this has been already asked and answered then I apologize for creating this thread; I know it can be really annoying. I have my exams going on, I tried to look for it but didn't find the information I wanted.
So I've been using XDA since I first bought a galaxy s3, and now I own an LG G3. I cannot emphasize how much this community has helped me over the time, and now I feel like I should be contributing after leeching for so many years. I know one way I can contribute to devs is by reporting bugs, but I feel like I'm capable of more than that.
Currently I'm an electrical engineering student in my third year, and I've gained a lot of experience with programming, I just finished a course on ARM assembly. What I want to know is how can I contribute to this community with my skills which are mostly in programming (C, Java, Assembly) and electronics. I would love to join any kind of projects where I can help and even though I admit I should be searching for them myself, I would really appreciate if someone could point me into the right direction.
TL;DR I'm an electrical engineering student with a lot of experience in programming and electronics, would like to contribute, need help with where to start.

Hi, you can help by answering questions in the Q&A section here if you know the answer. If you are talking more on a programming level you can send info regarding your experience to the developers posting team ROMs to see if there is some way your knowledge can help. I would say you should start with doing some of your own projects first, like themeing or building a kernel. You would have to search for guides though to get you started.
I have been searching for two weeks straight on how to root my Verizon (running on straighttalk) Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It is the SM-910V running 5.0.1. It has the kernel 3.10.40. I have tried multiple different ways of using odin, kingoroot, ect. I'm not sure if I am just doing something wrong or what? I consider myself fairly decent with software and figuring things out. However, working 4 12-hour shifts at the local hospital and taking summer classes in college has me a little frazzled. Can someone please direct me to a guide that will enable me to root my phone permanently. I would prefer not to have a temporary root but if that is my only option I am certainly open to it. I am not incompetent nor am I lazy, I am just tired of searching countless threads and watching countless video's to no avail. PLEASE HELP ME. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated and hopefully someday I can return the favor.
Side Note: I am currently a Licensed Practical Nurse with many years of experience and working on getting my ASN-RN then I will bridge that to an ASN in CIS. Anything I can do to assist someone else please ask. Thank you for allowing me to join your group guys and gals!!!
Hi! Xda admin aren't the ones to ask for help with technical issues on devices, fellow members are.
There's a dedicated section here for the Verizon Note 4, https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon
The general section has lots of information, including root guides by the looks of it. After reading through those, if you still need help, you can ask in the guide threads, or in the question and answer section.
Good luck! And I'll close this thread. :good:
