Ice cream sandwich......why? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Ok so I updated my cell to ice cream sandwich, and my gs2 has become so damn slow, idk what to do, unresponsive, slow, and freezes, can anyone tell me how to fix this ?

Idk what you're talking about man ics is faster to me then gb.

Simple just ODIN back to stock 2.3.6 image. Search for the thread "recovery from a bad flash"

Was it a custom rom or just the factory update. I've heard a lot of trouble with the factory update. I would definitely recommend trying out one of the custom ics roms. My opinion: Infamous or Infamous Lite for a more stock rom. Happy flashing

+1 for custom ROM.
I use Darkside Telus ICS, very close to stock. The stock ICS has a a lot of bloatware in in that runs constantly on the background, this is why you guys might find it a bit sluggish.
I would highly recommend a custom "close to stock" ROM, you'll see a huge difference.

ICS > GB.

Flash the Darkside Wipe zip, then flash or ODIN stock ICS. Let it boot up, then factory reset. Works smooth for me. I prefer stock over customs anytime..
DMolina

This phone, like any dual core phone, particularly this beast, was made for ICS. I'm not talking about crappy TW stock ICS, a highly modified and tweaked all to hell custom ICS ROM

well beyond that remember wiping doesn't wipe everything.

There is an entire thread talking about everything having to do with the ICS update, including what can cause these issues.

ya ya ya, ICS (they say) is much smoother - to each their own, i guess.
I hope JB will not have the issues that ICS has.

Just use KIES to update to 4.0.4 and root it, remove bloatwares and youre good to good with a fully working phone. She will appreciate it because every custom roms has bugs and always update and i bet she wont like that. My girl hates it too.. This is kinda like the other thread. What rom is wife approve?? Even though they suggest darkside, people always seem to have problems that others dont..

Kies remove root and this guy nows how to root and I ask him bro he's fine... most custom ROMs have less bugs vs aosp(aokp,miui,cm,)...have more bugs. I suggest cm 9.1.0

Kies to 4.0.4 if you want a stable stock ROM. You can always root after that. 4.0.3 stock wasn't that greatest btw. most of the 4.0.4 custom ROMs are stable. Only the jb 4.1+ roms have a couple bugs here and there.
Btw ^ AOSP is a custom ROM too. I'm sure you know that, but it was a bit confusing and you're not making the most sense right now lol

Seems like in general if you want good battery life go with a near-stock ICS rom, frosty is a good one but there are several to choose from. I'm currently trying serenity 1.2 LITE right now, it's pretty nice so far but I've only been using it a few hours.
After finally getting rooted yesterday (woohoo!), I flashed Stock sX v3.0. Awesome.

I would try anything from Wildchild. He mods stock ROMs both ICS and JB and they work great. I'm running the Xquizit xD v31(JB) and couldn't be happier. You can find it in the gs3 development forum.
Battery life is good and v 31 comes with all the tools you might need. You can also flash the Kitchen v 10 with it to customize your ROM.

Temporary do to someone stealing his work and it is a downer in general, besides we are on the verge of Official JB. So no point in spending so much time working on a rom that will be rebased and redone all over.

A Question

Any of you guys know if I can downgrade from stock JB to stock ICS with everything carrying over safely? Like...without a factory reset? Thank you for your time.
On E4GT, we don't have stock JB but just root it, back every app up and then just flash your ICS ROM and restore apps

Yeah that's what I was thinking about doing, but I really don't feel like going through that tedious process. But I guess I'll have to deal with it.
Yea well that's kinda like your only option to go to ICS

Agat recovery

Hey if anyone was willing to help me. I'm on agat's recovery for FI27. I'm having trouble flashing roms. Is it the recovery or is it me. And if you guys would recommend a rom that lasts at least 10hrs. On stock battery that would be great. Preferably ics or jellybean.

Stock JB (rooted) worked for 10+ hrs for me with moderate calls and wi-fi.
What kind of trouble are you having with flashing ROMs? FI27 should be one of the more stable versions out there!

Yes same here currently running GA10 stock rooted. Battery lasts all day with normal use. For me thats at least 2 hours of screen time which can include games or nav. Also some light texting and calls and bluetooth audio.
Today I'm at 6 hours up, 70% left with 45 mins screen time.
Does it give you an error code or message?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It says "status 7error" or "bad" but mostly "installation aborted" on multiple recoveries. Sorry it took so long to reply back. At the movies. And then grocery store.

Ok so i wasn't completely detailed with my last post. I've tried flashing pretty much all the jellybean roms available for this phone, with a fair amount of ics roms.
When i go to recovery i first do the wipes. Then i try to flash. Only kernels or recoveries successfully flash. is it a bad zip.
Ps. I have to download directly to my phone cause. I don't have enough patience for Centry Links 75kbps download speeds. If there's a problem with that. Feel free to let me know on anything I'm asking about. I'm open to any information. I've only been able to flash Lightweight v0.5 and after the aroma installer it gets stuck in bootloop. Sooooo annoying.

I usually get those errors when trying to flash from a stock kernel. try changing kernels and see if that helps. I've had good luck with FK 23 and EL26.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Did you resolve your issue? Jelly bean is working for many on this phone, way better than ics ever could. So far as I know the only safe way to get jb is to do the one chick, QbKing head a video on YouTube with some helpful explications, look it up it may help you out.

Forgot how smooth stock is.

So I have flashed many roms on my nexus. The last being xylon. That and purity ak kernel did great for a long time. After awhile with every ROM though it began getting laggy and started having FCS . I decided that I was going to restore my backup. While I was debating what ROM to flash next I couldn't help but notice how stable and snappy my stock backup was. If you can do without customization the stock ROM really is nice. No disrespect to the developers.

I'm done with custom ROM as well. I've been running stock for over two months and I love how well the device performs overall. No less of data, no crashes, no headaches. I haven't been visiting this website like I used to because I do not need to troubleshoot my phone constantly. Flashing ROM can be an addiction.

I can second that. Flashing is very addictive, I update all major custom roms whenever new build is released but eventually I restore my stock backup. The only feature from custom roms I really miss is t9 dialer. I don't like third party dialers from market. I tried to fix it by myself, never successful though. I like the smoothness of our stock which is unfortunately little affected by deodexing in our beloved custom roms. That's the price of customization / theming.
Yeah, since JB the stock image was always smoother. Plus it's flash and forget, in the custom ROM's you're always wondering what's new.

I agree with having root for blocking adds. Adaway ftw!
I myself am getting sick of flashing roms...something always happens when ya either update the rom or custom kernel.. Love the snappy feel of stock everything is so smooth.
But i have to say stock + root + nova launcher with all animations off for faster the light speed = Beastly. Only reason i cant go back to stock is because my my volume down key doesnt work after breaking when replacing the usb port.
So i cant take screenshots and ive tried all different types of screenshot apps and they all suck. So im loving aokp's option of adding the screenshot button to my navbar it really beats the option having it in the power option because ya can take screenshots of ya toggles if need be etc.
Anyway yeah as soon as i get my hands on the n4 thats when ill be running stock + root + launcher i think.

If you purchased a GNex, and are an XDA member, I guess I can't see the reason why you'd keep the phone stock. Lag, the occasional FC, etc. will still occur even on stock; normal maintenance and a few tweaks minimize these regardless of custom or stock.
Admittedly, there's a good case to be made for slowing down the # of flashes during a day/week/month. Typically, there are two types of flashers: those who flash for aesthetics/customization, and those who flash for noticeable gains in performance, batt. life, features. Fortunately, there are developers on XDA who cater to both groups....some even pleasing both groups @ the same time. More often than not, however, there is a lull between Android releases, which produces more ROMS geared towards customization. This contributes to the "bored" factor, and ultimately, threads such as these.
With no disrespect to the OP, if you're content with stock, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and stock+root on the GNex is more than capable of providing a good Android experience. But, holding this phone, and subscribing to these forums leads one to the assumption that you're @ the very least CURIOUS about opening up the possibilities of this phone's capabilities.
