How can I reinstall Android? - HTC Wildfire S

Hi,
My phone stopped working after installing an app that might have contained some malicious code. I cannot get the phone into recover mode as when I boot up pressing the down or up volume button I cannot select anything.
When I connect to my computer using USB, I can use the fastbook command from the Android development kit, and reboot the phone normally. When I do this, all I can see on the screen is HTC is big writing. I can never access the SD card directly either.
During a normal boot, the phone says it cannot find a few files and hangs in the boot menu.
Anybody got any advise?
Thanks in advise.

Thanks, tried that and it appears to have upgraded it to 1.02.0000, but the problem is still exactly the same.

can you post here what is your device information: hboot ver., radio, marvel/c/ct and other information which will help?
P.S. you don't need to write thanks, there is a button under my avatar

I had the same thing happen a few days ago... it was a PAIN to get my phone back to life!!
I was installing some fonts when it froze... then no matter what i did, it got stuck on the boot screen.
So... what worked for me was... turn phone off (which for me the only way was to take the battery out), take SD card out, put battery back, restart phone to bootloader (vol down+power). I had previously installed clockworkmod on it, so with that i could revive the phone.... BUT could not put the stock rom back on it, have tried different versions... so i'm using a custom rom (WildChild Sense) now... which BTW is much better!!
Oh and if your phone flashes this screen for a sec or two (see attachment) you don't need to worry about it, it has nothing to do with anything.... mine is working fine now and still get that message.
Good luck!

I have tried many different RUU downloads and they all fail.
Is there a recommended version for me to try?

[Q] HTC Desire HD bricked white screen on rooting

Hello to everyone
I have one problem regarding HTC Desire HD. The problem turns up after trying to downgrade ROM from :
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0027
MICROP-0438
RADIO26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-BOOT
SEP 7 2011,19:06:24
Gingerbread 2.3.5
I used aahk-13012012 to flash ROM but after starting the flash, mobile freezes in HBOOT and stay frozen so I shut it down manually removing the battery. In this process was written that the card was finished converting to golden card. Now when I start mobile it stacks in white screen with HTC logo and nothing happens. If I push volume down key and hit power, I have boot screen but I can’t control anything with up/down key or power button. If I remove SD card then it is possible to choose recovery, factory reset etc. but whatever I try result is not good. Sometimes goes like in recovery and ends with red mark on the screen. I tried to format SD card and put PD98IMG.zip in root of SD card but still nothing. I think while downgrading it finished only two points which were on display, I really can’t remember which first two were. Now HBOOT my screen looks like this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO26.09.04.11_M2
eMMC-BOOT
Apr 12 2011,00:55:45
So please if someone can guide me what to do and what is possible to do. What can be worst scenario, I lost my phone or there is a way to fix this ?
Thanks in advance

Your sdcard is not good....is corrupted, that is why it gets stuck in the hboot screen. Try using a different one and the hack kit will work as charm. Besides, the Hack Kit version u are using is not the lastest...
If you still are stuck then hit the IRC Channel....
Thanks for replay, I just want to ask you what I must do if I get new card? It must be golden card? Also what I need to do, is it enough only to put PD98IMG.zip in SD card root and boot again ?

just get a sdcard for the rooting process. You don't have to do anything but change the sdcard and re run the hack kit from scratch. your sdcard works ok for daily use but is not good for boot images....so you can lend one and after you are done give it back and use yours.
but how can I start rooting process if can't start the phone ?

you say that u used a PD98IMG.zip...where did u get that from?
I started rooting normally through command promt from my pc, after that screen goes to HBOOT and starting downgrade and stops. so I can't boot mobile phone anymore...everything I can do is press volume down power and see the white screen with information that i posted in beginning of this thread
after i connected SD card to my pc and looked what is on it, it was transferd PD98IMG.zip, later I tried to download some other version but still nothing

I have just sent you a PM
I have the same problem, but I didn't try to root or anything with my HTC DHD, everything just happened suddenly. I've got a notification about an update from HTC's Watch tool, I did update it. Later in the day I had to take out the SIM card. I didn't turn off the phone, I just removed the SIM card. When I re-inserted the SIM a few minutes later, the phone asked me to turn off the phone or reboot. I chose reboot. The system started up normally, but in SAFE MODE. I saw this for the first time. So I shut down the phone again and turned it on. But this time the white screen of death (that's what I call it) appeared. There is all the same info as to be seen like in the first post to this thread. I've tried to select one of the four options but my volume keys don't react. Sometimes it reacts, but sometimes not. I managed to go into recovery mode somehow but it didn't help. I just got a red exclamation mark. Pressing volume up and power button showed me up some more option, like wiping data cache etc, but it was not possible to select any of them because the volume keys don't respond. The only responding key is the power key, and as the reboot option is highlighted, I can only reboot and the same procedure is starting over again. The phone is in this situation for two days and I don't know how to fix it. Any help in this case?

HTC One M8 bootloop after RUU

Hi, I just got HTC One M8 stuck on black HTC logo with four triangles. To solve this I flashed official RUU but phone was still on bootloop. Now It's on white htc screen, I can boot recovery and bootloader. Flashed firmware and RUU - nothing changes.
BOOTLOADER : LOCKED

What RUU did you flash (full file name) and did it run to completion, and were there any error messages?
I flashed RUU : 0P6BIMG_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_6.12.401.4 _Radio_1.29.214500021.12G_20.72.4196t.01_release_4 64360_signed.zip

This is common, and means you should flash the RUU again (pretty sure its supposed to say "flash image again immediately" - even though it says "flush"). Did you try to do so?
After that error it flashes image again by itself. After 8-10 min it says that everything is ok. Then i restart and get same bootloop. Maybe I'm using wrong RUU? My HTC is European version

It should be the right RUU. You're using htc_fastboot to flash? Maybe try downloading the RUU again, and flash again.
I flashed with htc_fastboot and used image from : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960687057. Tried two times, same results. Don't know what to do next.

How exactly did this happen, where you doing something at the time? Was there any significant type of update to the phone recently? Or you just picked up the phone and it was stuck this way?
I bought it with the note that motherboard is faulty. But I thought that It's only bricked somehow. Previous owner said that he saw an error and phone shut down itself. No water damage or etc. Maybe really It is faulty logic board?

Its the correct RUU, and I don't see any other reason why the RUU wouldn't work. Correct RUU not getting a stock device to run is a good indication that its a hardware failure. Especially since it seems the previous owner was just using the phone (assuming no recent updates or other major changes), and it shut down, and hasn't worked since; again that to me would point to hardware failure.
If you've got nothing to lose, you can try to unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and flash a ROM, and see if the condition improves at all. But my guess would be no.
How to unlock bootloader with developer options disabled? I tried to do it but it still shows that bootloader is locked. I used htcdev webpage. Any other solutions?

You don't need developer's options (debugging) enabled to unlock the bootloader. Its done by fastboot, which doesn't require debugging.
If you went through the full process at HTCDev.com with obtaining an unlock bin token, and flashed the token with fastboot per the instructions, and its still locked; then its another indication that you are looking at a hardware failure (like bad emmc).

Soft bricked with S-On

I have an HTC One M8 (International) and I don't remember how, since this happened long ago, but while flashing some ROM I somehow switched my phone back to S-On while the bootloader stayed 'Unlocked' but it showed the 'Tampered' sign.
After an year, my new phone isn't working and I needed to get my old phone back so I took it out and decided to wipe everything because I didn't care about the data inside it and I just wanted all the storage space. Unwittingly I checked every box in the 'Advanced' section of the factory reset menu, including the 'System' checkbox.
Now my phone has no OS, it has an unlocked bootloader with the latest TWRP installed (not completely sure about the latest part) but it shows 'Tampered' below the unlocked text and I've got 'S-On'. I had the Viper ROM on it before if that matters. It wont boot past the HTC screen which has the red text below it that tells us that the version of HTC is for developers.
I really need some help here, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Download a ROM on your PC and transfer it to an SD card, then flash it in recovery. Wiping everything in recovery doesn't wipe recovery, so you should still have TWRP on your phone.
To get there after you've inserted the SD card with the ROM to flash, power up your phone by holding power+vol down. That will boot you to bootloader. Use the vol keys to navigate to hboot and the power button to select it, and there will be an option to boot to recovery. Navigate to that, then flash the ROM.

I tried that, but it doesn't flash the ROM. Instead it starts flashing and then restarts back into TWRP midway. I tried flashing superuser the same way but to no avail.
You may have outdated firmware and outdated TWRP version. Most of current ROM won't get installed on outdated TWRP.

Are you sure it was ever s-off? S-off isn't need to flash ROMs, root, or a great many other things.
The only way you could have gotten s-off is with the sunshine app ($25); unless you did s-off with firewater before that method was disabled in Dec 2014.

There is rarely ever a reason to go into the Advanced section. But if you do, its called "Advanced" for a reason. You shouldn't be wiping any partitions on this device without understanding what it means, and what the results will be.

If you haven't installed a new TWRP version in a year, there is no way its the "latest".
There is also no reason to guess at this. It says the TWRP version number right on the main screen of TWRP. You're always better of giving the specific number, instead of just saying latest. Folks on here often post they have the "latest" TWRP. But once prompted for the actual version number, I often find its something very old, often 2 years old!

Jesus. 1.54.651.8 OS? That phone has never been updated since forever.
Go to this thread for instructions and links to update your device.
You want the ones that aren't "Harman"
EDIT: You are S-Off, so keep that in mind (security: off from your getvar)
Feel free to send me a PM if you need further instructions.

MY HTC M8 is not booting. What can I do?

I have S-ON M8 with custom recovery on it. I can get to the recovery but it is impossible to mount it as memory to upload any custom rom to flash it to work. My phone gets stuck on Android logo and does not go further. Is it possible for me to flash it using RUU and get it back to original, stock firmware?

In TWRP, go to Wipe, and tap the button "Format data". It sounds like your internal storage is corrupt, and doing the format data option usually fixes this. Obviously, you will lose any data on the phone, but it sounds like we're well past that point already.

Probably. But it depends on whether your M8 version has an RUU.
Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

This is the info about my device.
I think I downloaded proper RUU but when I start installation on my Windows 10 machine it asks for Admin privliges and starts installation and disappears at the end. Nothing happens.

It would be useful if you provided some specific reasoning/rationale on why you think its the right RUU, or any specific details (file name, link to where you got it from, etc.).
I've lost count of how many times folks "thought" they had the right RUU, but were wrong.
Also, I suggested in my last post that you try2 very specific things, which it seems you completely ignored. Don't know if there is a point in trying to help you, if you ignore the advice given.
I didn't ignore anything. Tried, didn't work. And mu RUU's name is RUU_M8_WHL_M60_SENSE70_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_6.20.651.3
With different RUU the situation is the same. Drivers installed and still does not work.

That's important information to provide. Otherwise, we can only assume you ignored the advice.
Plus, if it "didn't work" what does that mean? Were their error messages, or any other outputs?
You tried both things (format data, and getvar) and the both didn't work?

This is not even remotely the right RUU for your device. I don't know why you think its the right one. Its for the US Sprint version. In fact, if it had run (which wouldn't happen on an s-on device) it would have radio bricked your phone, due to the differences in the Sprint version.

This isn't the right RUU either. It seems you are just guessing. This one is for the US Developer's Edition.
I don't think your version has RUU.
But I also need to see the getvar output, to see if anything on the phone has been modified (to change the carrier version).
Unfortunately I am unabale to get anything from getvar. It get stuck on "waiting for device"

The phone is in bootloader, with fastboot mode selected (highlighted in red near the top - if its not, select fastboot in the menu selections on the bootloader screen, and confirm with power button).
Also, try another USB cable.
If its still not working, hanging on "waiting for devices" is usually a problem on the PC side. Uninstall and re-install HTC Sync, try another USB port, or another PC if possible. Win7 and USB 2.0 has the best chance of compatibility with this device.

To be clear, are you trying to mount when booted into TWRP?
Do you have an SD card, and a USB card reader? If so, just put the ROM on the SD card from your computer, then just put the SD in the phone, flash in TWRP.
That is all getvar sit out. This was done under Linux coz Windows just didn't want to work with the phone.

Stuck in bootloop with no access to recovery after official update

Hi Peeps,
I have read alot of threads which seem to be close to my issue but they seem to be able to get in to recovery via HBOOT, or the same issues have been posted but no answers or follow ups, if they have fixed the issues. Most annoying thing that, fixing the issue but not posting how. There does seem to be a lot asking the same question but no answer. I had asked in other threads, i have removed them and wrote this more complete thread. So any help would be appreciated, not only me but anyone else with this issue::angel::fingers-crossed:
Ok, The phone is a friends who got this phone with it already in a bootloop. According to the seller, When they did the official update (not sure if from KK-LP or LP-MM, but the) seller said it was on 5.0.2 Lollipop.
As usual from HTC, they have 10s of different OS versions of the same device, not helped by the fact they have dual and single sim models, plus, Snapdragon and MediaTec models.
This is the dual Sim 820N Snapdragon 615 model.
I don't know if its been rooted or has USB Debugging on. I have relocked the bootloader via fastboot. I can get CID and getvar all from fastboot but when I try and flash recovery I get signature verify fail. Also, I have downloaded All In One Flash Tool but it wont connect to the device.
Here is the NBOOT Screen info

Any help would be great, I have been trying this issue everyday for over a week. I'm not a total NOOB but, I am a beginner still
Thanks in advance - Also ***I WILL POST BACK WITH THE FIX, IF AND WHEN I FIX IT***
Or can anybody tell me where I can download the RUU and the flash tool if that would work. I have looked at loads of sites trying to find the right RUU then see if I can somehow update it with that. I am trying everything I can, Someone must know something, anything. Its not like its a crap phone with hardly any development. Its a good mid-range device with loads of support - I just can't find the right answer to my issue. I don't want to give up, The answer is out there. Even have looked under other devices, Thats how I've come across the RUU option
Ok, as promised... I spent hours upon hours trying to find the RUU download so here it is https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960690247
This is for the Desire 820N dual sim Europe A51_UL
I've not tried it yet, in the process of doing it.
Download then change the name to 0PFJIMG.zip, put on SD Card, VOL down + Power Button to load bootloader - it should automatically read the update and load in.
I'll post back if it was successful
Update;
I have tried to rename and copy to SD card, in fastboot, it reads the SD card but not the 0PFJIMG.zip.
So I started to look around why that could be then seen a few vids on YouTube showing how to RUU.
Best way was to extract the RUU file, Run the RUU.exe from the unpacked files and it should do everything for you.
So I tried to use winrar to unpack but got;
WinRAR: Diagnostic Message

I did however download another source which was password protected, Having found the password, I extracted that file too which gave me the same error's.
I downloaded WinZip and got an error through that too.
Is it too much of an ask, if anybody could shed a light on whats going on there?
As I said, I'll post everything I find and what I did to fix the issues. No doubt I'll have to figure it out myself...again :0)
Another quick update, I downloaded any random RUU from HTC-DEVs, Unzipped that and got the same errors???
Thats too much of a coincidence 3 different files, 3 different sources but the same 3 errors. Could it be google chrome download?, Should I try diferent Laptop? Different profiles? Might As well talk to the wall:cyclops:
I have the same issue, and i cant access recovery mode or get to start it
