Hi there, my sister has a one x (I use galaxy s3 btw
she dropped the phone and the screen now looks like a church window
is there a way that I can recover the photos of my nephew on it before we send it away to the insurance providers?
I have tried the HTC sync manager but I believe it needs confirmation keyed into the phone as it does not pick up a device.
all drivers have installed correctly and im running XP SP3 if that helps.
The phone is UK and on vodafone.
Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks in adavance

She should have the photos backed up on her dropbox account. If not, try and see if you can connect as mass storage.

There are two pieces of software that you can potentially use. One is called QtADB and the other My Phone Explorer. Both of these pieces of software have a functionality that allows you to control your phone from the computer by displaying on their UI your phone's screen. You can then control you phone using your mouse. This way activate Mass Storage mode, all do whatever you wish.

Good Afternoon,
Does anyone on here know a way on how to transfer my pictures and files or manage them even when my screen is competly blank? I already talked to the T mobile store, customer service, tech support, Samsung, and CPR Cell phone repair they all said that there is no way. My computer still recognizes my phone when I plug it in but when I click the file on my computer it is blank, so it seems if I haveto change the settings.
P.S. they are saved to my hard drive not my memory.
Thank you in advance.
From the external SD card yes but the internal no unless u get a new screen

Give the androidlost app a try. I can't seem to get it working since I upgraded phones, but it's worth a try. It allows remote installation of the app somehow, and has an option to view phone content once installed.
Hello all
After updating my phone to JB yesterday, I cant seem to mount usb-storage from within sense. Before (on ICS) i got choice of either Charge or USB-disk.
Now I get a new HTC Camera icon in my win-xp and a new CD-station drive..
And when I click on it, it asks me to put a disk in it.. Wierd.
I am using same HTC drivers i always been using. Version 1.0.7.0, date 27.08.2008
Did u install newest HTC Sync Manager?
Should work out of this disk drive, navigate to this with e.g. windows explorer.
Then u can set windows explorer to autostart "One X" when connected.
Also e.g. TotalCommander finds the Storage in Computer/HTC One X/internal storage.

In JB, It comes out in MTP something can provide double-mount in device and pc. If you can not get access to the sdcard dir from pc, just update(or install) htc sync in your pc and it will be ok.
On the off chance you are on XP it just won't work with MTP still looking for a fix lol! Getting redundancy money in January so will probs just get a new laptop lol!
I know about the new sync manager software, but it sucks donkey balls.
Before the JB update it just connected to my pc (windows 7) and Dropbox autouploaded every new photo i have on my phone.
Now that doesn't work anymore and the only way to sync my photo's is via this sync manager program, which sucks...
And then something else: I can't seem to get the screen on my phone where it says "charge only, diskdrive, etc..."
When I press the USB connected thingy in the notification bar it goes straight to portable hotspot & tethering options..
ROM = ARHD 12
Did you update through OTA ?
If so could you help me here:

I "solved" it. Short version: Went back to ICS (ViperX rom, much better and functional than JB at this point).
First try to solve it: HTC Sync.
It worked but then everytime i connected phone, HTC Sync popped up with no way to disable it (option to not launch sync did nothing).
MTP file transfer speeds sucks donkey balls too. And you can only do 1 operation at a time. And image browsing sucks. MTP just sucks.
Second try: Windows 7 upgrade
Atleast didnt have to have htc sync installed, which was a bit better. But MTP is still inferior experience than usb ms.
Third try sollution: ICS
Flashed faux 011m kernel, downloaded and flashed Viper X rom. Problem gone.

From what I know, that setting is gone "thanks" to MTP. With MTP it is no longer need to dismount SD-card from phone when giving usb access, but in return you get slower and convoluted file transfers.
i am having the same problems i cannot mount usa via recovery and i cannot access my sd via usb.. also i dont see how you call that a fix to the problem by going back to ics thats not a fix
any help to how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated..
Same problems on the HTC One S. I think it's bull**** how HTC is doing this mounting in JB. It's retarded.... Any way to fix this and get a decent mount (besides mounting in a recovery or going back to ICS...?)?

I know. Sense 4+ is really aggravating me and I would like to, it's just that on the One S, there are a few thing that aren't as good on Sense (IE: battery, camera, and others...). Was just wondering if there is a fix that anyone knows of. My main issue is to get iSyncr working. The connection keeps corrupting after a short amount of time because MTP is terrible.
Can't fix b/c its not really broken

Its already been said, but just to be clear, there is no fix because this is the way its supposed to work now (this is the payoff for not having a removable sd card - you can access your storage from the phone and the pc at the same time).
Maybe you could try uninstalling HTC sync (including drivers) and re-installing (then delete sync again to just keep the drivers if you don't like sync).
That's the set up I have and I'm not running into any problems transferring files back and forth between phone and pc
Yeah, its really annoying me now because I have loads of information, invoices, photos all trapped on my phone sync won't work and well there's no ad card to remove.

If you're on custom recovery, you can connect your phone that way. That's maybe not the best solution for every day, just if you really need something to get from the device, but it's still better than "you-can't-touch-my-internal-storage-use-Zune-instead" on WP7...
Cheer I will try that

Hello. I have a Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747 on Rogers Canada) with android 4.4 - stock/not rooted. The other day I hooked up my S3 to my laptop using a USB cable. My laptop is running Win XP SP3. I COPIED ALL the pictures from the phone to the Laptop. The pics were visible on BOTH my phone and my laptop when I finished the transfer. I am guessing it used Windows Media as the transfer medium as Kies was not running. While the phone was still linked to the Laptop I thought I would just delete the ones off the phone that I didn't want. I did so. I then unhooked the phone from the laptop. Ouch!!! The pictures I had deleted from the phone were missing from BOTH the phone and the laptop. First I checked the laptop trash bin. Nothing there. I then tried using the Recuva undelete software on my laptop disk as I thought there should be a deleted copy on the disk as they were visible on screen before I unplugged my phone. It recovered some 94k plus jpg's and I spent more than a day scanning them for the ones I needed. Nothing there. So I thought I needed to run an undelete on the phone. HA HA to that!!! It seems that in the android developers great wisdom the phone is no longer considered a mass storage device when hooked to a computer but is a media device. MY interpretation but something like that. Next I did a BUNCH of reading and made a bunch of phone calls for advice. I tried all kinds of tricks. I tried a number of android undelete programs. I had the USB debugging enabled but all the programs I tried didn't recover any deleted jpg's. Even the programs that said they could. It turns out that the phone HAS to be linked as a mass storage device with a drive letter for the android recovery software to work to recover jpg's. It seems to be able to find other file types but not jpg's.
Now here is the interesting part. I tried linking the phone to my desktop (XP SP3 also) and my laptop dozens of times hoping something would change. I believe that once on my desktop and once on my laptop it showed up as a mass storage device. I say "I believe" because I was so conditioned to it NOT showing as a mass storage device that both times I had already clicked on the icon that releases the phone from the computer before I realized there was a drive letter there. Anyway, the time on my laptop that it happened was around the time I had run one of the android file recovery programs. The program had not found any jpg files but when it finished my phone had a message something like "SE has been disabled". blah blah blah. I did a BUNCH more reading and researching about SE on my phone. The best I can figure is that it is a security enhancement designed to stop programs getting at, or changing things in, other programs on the phone and is set somewhere in the policies file - where ever that is.
My question is - Is it possible to temporarily disable SE so I can try and get my pictures back? Thank you, Derek-j

SElinux stands for "security enhanced Linux" and turning it to permissive will not do a lot I believe. However this app can enable UMS on your phone again. Here is the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.samsungusbmassstorageenabler

Oooppss...not going to work. First off...my phone is stock and this requires rooting. I don't know much about rooting and don't have a problem trying it but I suspect that would likely over-write some or all of the deleted jpg's I want to recover thus defeating the purpose. The other and absolutely CRITICAL thing is that it does NOT enable USB for internal memory. You'd think that the GOOGLE developers would know better than to remove that important feature, especially in an (upgrade???). I had even thought of going back to one of the older versions but again I think that would destroy some of the file entries and delete the very pics I am trying to get back....
I REALLY DO APPRECIATE your trying to help though.
Have a FANTASTIC week. Derek-J.
So BACK TO SQUARE ONE...Anyone know how to temporarily disable the SE feature?

I don't think you can on Android 4.4 without root. Why not just go towel root your S3?
Yea there is not much you can do without root, sorry for your troubles
Ok, after having the worst luck of the year I drop my HTC One M8 down the toilet post pee..
Bag of rice in airing cupboard for a week..... Screen works but with internal marks.
It takes a good 5 mins to boot and when it does the digitiser is lifeless... Just nothing!
I've got insurance but my problem is I've got electrical testing software on the phone with 2 days worth of testing results on it.
I know the insurance will reset my phone once repaired as I've done it before...
When I plug into computer I can't back up because my screen lock... Is there a remote way of unlocking so I can access and back up my data.
I'm due an inspection in March and need the results.. On top of that I've broken my left hand and am off work so can't just lose 2 days to retest... Happy 2015 :crying:
Nobody got any idea if this is possible or not?

I'm not guaranteeing this will work, because in these cases you never know.
This data recovery tool also will work with PC, SD cards, ext hard drives, etc.
Thanks man, I'll try that out later. Got a feeling I'll need to get past screen lock first though.
You can control your phone remotely with Androidlost. Just login with your Google account then remotely install the app
.https://www.androidlost.com/
You can also use droid explorer to access your files. If you use the screen casting option you can also control the phone with a mouse.
EDIT:looks like android lost no longer auto registers the downloaded app any more. So that option is out of the window.

I am unable to get the content of my old HTC One to move to my 10. When I try to use the "Get Content from Another Phone" tab in the Settings tab, the old phone cannot detect the PIN. Closer examination shows that the WiFi in the 10 shuts down when I try to use this feature.
I also tried to restore the backup using the HTC Sync Manager on my desktop. The Sync Manager cannot see the 10 when it is connected.
Suggestions?
Had the same issue. You need to put your SIM card in your 10 before the transfer tool will work properly.

Thanks, but a new nano ATT SIM card is in the 10, as well as the old micro ATT SIM card is in the HTC One. However, the old SIM card in the HTC One has been deactivated by ATT when the new one for the 10 was activated. Would that have any effect on the problem?
Not only will the transfer tool not work, but the HTC Sync Manager software on my desktop will not recognize the 10; so that method won't work either. The biggest problem is that I cannot transfer my calendar, in addition to the photos.
I spent a long time on the phone with an HTC CSR with no success. Arrggghhhh!!!!!
Just got off the phone with another HTC CSR on these two issues: 1.) HTC Transfer App doesn't work and 2.) HTC Sync Manager software doesn't recognize the 10.
He had no clue and said he would escalate the problems. He said I should hear back in 24-48 hrs.

Normal way, on the 10: settings, get content, htc android,
On the 9 : open transfer tool app, next wait until both phones display the same code... Nothing out of the regular way... Hopefully you can try again... May works this time....
