Are you using TWRP or CWM? Have you updated to the latest?
I think TWRP can restore CWM, so if you're on CWM, install TWRP then try restoring. Worth a shot.

Backups are different formats so I dont believe either recovery will restore the others backups.
how can i get twrp? I am using CWM v6.0.1.0..

Thanks for responding and do you think there's any hope for me getting my VZ GNEX back up and running?
Try a different backup or just start fresh and don't use a backup.
is your backup more than 2GB?

Restoring CWM backup with TWRP, possible?

I made a backup of the stock ROM using CWM but had issues getting certain ROMs to work until I changed the recovery to TWRP. Is it possible to restore the backup made in CWM with TWRP?
I was planning on backing current ROM with TWRP, going back to CWM; restoring stock ROM, installing TWRP and recreating backup with TWRP but I'm just wondering if it's possible.
Thanks!
EDIT: I found the answer myself not 10 seconds after posting this. I hate it when that happens!! FYI, the answer is No.

Nandroid Backup?

Hey everyone. What exactly is a Nandroid Backup? If something goes wrong with a rom cant you just boot to download mode and restore via ODIN?

A nandriod backup it a back up of your system, kernel and data. its used to restore via recovery. I've never restored via odin, but I think you can choose to make a back up as a .tar file and restore that way too. Correcet me if I'm wrong. But I make a nandroid as a .zip file.

I usually make the nandroid from my Recovery (not sure if you can via Odin, I haven't used Odin since I rooted my phone because now I just use Mobile Odin for everything), and it makes it into a .zip file that can be loaded via recovery. Not sure if you can load it from mobile odin since I haven't really had a reason to try, but It's usually safe to restore your nandroid if something went wrong. I have multiple nandroids to restore to in case I need to, but the one I use most is a nandroid of stock EL26 rooted just because I like the recovery that came with it.
oh ok. thanks guys

[Q] Downgrading via CWM

Hi, maybe a stupid question.. If I update my phone to 4.2 and then I want to come back, is restoring a CWM backup after a full wipe enough? Or do I need to flash a Google image from scratch?
Thank you for your time.

Are you on the latest version of CWM? The reason I ask is because the earlier versions are incompatible with Android 4.2.
Anyways, you should be able to restore a nandroid backup of 4.1.2 (or earlier version) after wiping your system/data/cache.

I recommend that you switch from CWM to the latest TWRP because when I upgraded to 4.2 with CWM I faced the sdcard/0/ issue so CWM could no longer find the nandroid backup to restore it. I have no idea if this has been fixed in CWM but it is working fine in the latest TWRP recovery which I am using now.
Take note that CWM backup is not compatible with TWRP backup so you have to make a TWRP backup to restore it later.
If you would like to have TWRP then you have to do the following assuming you are already rooted:
1- Download GooManager from the Play Store
2- Open it then install the TWRP recovery
3- Switch off the phone then go into TWRP recovery
4- Make a backup using TWRP
5- Do whatever you want now but remember that if you are wiping everything then you will have to install TWRP recovery again (either via fastboot or by rooting then downloading GooManager to install it) after starting the new ROM in order to restore your nandroid backup because wiping everything will wipe the recovery as well.
I hope that is clear

Ok, if I understand correctly you have a rooted phone, and you have tried a CWM recovery, then made a nandroid backup. Then decided to flash TWRP Recovery, and with this recovery you are unable to restore your first nandroid backup, correct?
So you used to have cwm recovery then? Backups made in cwm are not compatible with twrp so you'll need to flash cwm again before you restore your backup. You can find cwm in the Original Android Development section.
