I don't think there is an option for this, but does anyone have any hacks? How about after phone is rooted? My desk at work is a black void for Sprint signals, and causes all phones to go from 1 bar Sprint to 5 bars roaming, thus killing the battery.
Anyone try/ have any links to point me in a place to start?

This was never achieved on the Hero, doubt it will be found on the Evo.
Be careful with roaming, sprint told me this morning that they reserve the right to terminate your service if they feel your phone is roaming too much...

Actuall, I was looking for this as I was in the same boat as OP...I couldnt find a way to do it.....
I went through a lotta ROMS, upgraded the radio and some where in that process it configured itself to force roam (verizon)........but the battery life was worse than it was earlier
Not available yet.
You may want to check into an airwave for the office. If you ask nicely and tell them its because you can't get service they should give it to you for free.
I also need a force roam hack/app/widget... Whatever someone can make!!!!

Uhhh, that technohow guy has that prl you can use that will put you on verizon. If you have your msl it just takes a minute to switch back and forth from verizon to sprint.
Android is very new. It will be years before regular WinMo functions are available on it.

The methods used in that thread are actually better than roaming.
how am i dumb for posting a link that will help people on this thread....
instead of using sprint towers . its using verizon towers...
I am looking for the same thing. I live in DC and sprint is horrible for service where I work and live. On my Pre is just change it over to roaming and I have excellent signal. Soon as I leave the area or get home I just switch it back.

Grow up. If you can't discuss things with the other adults without resorting to insults then don't bother posting. That thread helped several people roam to verizon with out actually roaming.

I've been warned before but this was after leaving it on roam for 2-3 months. Guess I got too lazy to keep toggling, (with Touch pro 2). They said anything over 800 could be considered "excessive"

I tried this hack a few weeks ago. It def. gets Verizons towers but not the same as Verizon customers if that makes sense? I have a Touch Pro 2 that gets 4-5 bars when forced roaming. However when I use this hack, the bars wont stay in 3G, spotty data and fluctuates between 0-3 and 3G and no 3G. Compared this to 2 co-workers I work with. Def. not the same as their towers. I will continue my search for this app or hack

Looks like there is one 4g tower in the area. Don't expect any more then that, since sprint has abandoned wimax.
I got to work this morning and noticed my Thunderbolt was receiving 4G. I work on the Northside of Oshkosh near Snell.

Everyone relax. jayemuu was probably just trying to help you draw the conclusion that if verizon has 4g there, then maybe there is a chance that sprint does.
I haven't noticed until know that the SGN from Verizon shuts off 3g/lte while making calls.
Does this have something to do with ATTs contract with Google and Samsung.
I will leave this thread open as hope that we can resolve this issue. Please post your experiences. If your are not having issues with your SGN from Verizon please post. Thank you

OK but why did Verizon tell that me it does do calls and internet at the same time. Two customer reps told me this and one told me its in the manual. I'm going through the manual now
It's the network. Not some under the table contracted agreement.
It should be able to do voice and data anytime you have an LTE signal. On 3g you cannot though. Its a limitation of cdma.

No. An LTE only switch would kill the cdma radio which is where the voice is routed on the Nexus.

As stated, this is a limitation of CDMA, or at least Verizon's current implementation of CDMA. Every 3G phone exhibits this behavior, as well as LTE phones when out of range of an LTE signal.

There is one exception to the rule. VZW has updated their CDMA towers to allow SVDO which is voice and data over 3G, however the phone has to have a compatible chip set for it to work. The HTC thunderbolt is the only phone I know of that does SVDO when there is no LTE signal

Yeah, that's what's described at the "current implementation" link. As far as I was aware, SVDO hasn't been rolled out yet. Has Verizon already "flipped the switch" on SVDO?

SVDO was ready at launch of the TBolt. There was no press release when it launched tho. I don't think SVDO is going to catch on with VoLTE coming and the power hungry chips is just not q recipe for success

Welcome to CDMA. You can't do simultaneous talk and data over 3G. The only way you can do voice+data is if you're talking on 3G and doing data over LTE. If LTE drops while you're in a call, you have no data.

What are you even talking about? You have the entire technical reason behind your question, and you've been presented with the options (use LTE/WiFi). Alternatively, you can cancel your contract and move to AT&T -- have fun with that.

No it doesn't for me, been with sprint 10 yrs and they always seem to 1 up everyone at some point. Plus they been good to us.

This is most likely going to get me to switch. Buy an unlocked Nexus from play store and setup on tmobile BYOD plan and buh bye Sprint.
No nexus devices. After watching ET4G ICS screw ups, I am only buying Nexus devices.

That's my only reason I haven't switched yet. Anytime I need a payment extension they give it to me. If I have trouble with something they work with me. That means a lot to me. Now the minute they start being asses. I'll be switching for sure.
Sprints customer service is awesome compared to other companies and that's one reason why I would stay with them

Ill be sticking with sprint. T-mo only has 2G speeds where I live as compared to sprints 3G. I'm also assuming I'll eventually have sprint LTE with network vision and all.

This video says you won't be able to use the phone as a hotspot at all. I wonder if they'll kick you off for hacking hotspot or if it will even be possible to hack it? I love how they compare minutes but don't mention that Sprint offers "any mobile any time" which makes a world of difference. About 3,500 any mobile any time minutes a month for me.
That little missing point is "slightly" important.

Hacked hotspot depends on the phone, not the carrier.
Not everyone uses that many minutes. I stay under 100 usually.
T mobile is going to acquire a lot of customers due to this. Its a great move and may actually spark some competition and bring unlimited back.

To be honest i don't think att or verizon give a damn about what anyone else does, I just hope the 2 weak sister companies can hang in there.
I get awesome 3g and 4g here at home and at school but tmo seems only 2g
But at school they have 42mbps

ATT and Verizon will give a damn when they start losing customers to t-mobile. T-mobile actually has a good network unlike sprint.
Tmobile actually has a pretty mixed up network. Outside of major metropolitan areas all they have is 2g or roaming (or lack of it) while sprint usually has native 3g (at least) or roaming on verizon. Service also degrades rapidly when you go inside buildings compared to Sprint and VZ not to mention the fact that T-mobile has quite the lack of spectrum to deploy both LTE and HSPA42+ on its current spectrum holdings.
Literally it's a mixed bag depending on where you live and what you do most like traveling or sitting in one spot. Just remember this. Sprints Network Vision upgrade is upgrading each and every tower to fiber or microwave backend. Their speeds are guaranteed to increase. Meanwhile T-mobile lacks spectrum in a lot of places and is currently in the process of refarming to 1900mhz 3g/4g (at last!) while lte is quite a bit away.
TBH i'd only switch if youre in an area with beyond horrible service and NV upgrades coming in a year or so...Other than that... ya it's great that t-mobile is getting unlimited again although in the long run sprint will be ahead of them.
Speaking of which... i'm starting to miss my good old sidekick lx and tmobile g1...

I'm in Canton, Ohio and I just noticed that today I'm able to both use the phone and browse the Web at the same time without WIFI.
I can only assume that this is a network vision thing. LTE isn't in my future for a little while but I thought this was a good sign. Anyone else notice this?

I noticed this in STL over the weekend, I am not sure how long it has been this way because like you I "knew" it didn't work so never tried it. I just happened to get an email while on a call.
SVDO isn't a network feature or capability. It's only dependent on the phone having multiple data and voice antennas, and the Galaxy S3 does.

This statement isn't exactly true. It is both a phone and network feature. The towers need to accept multiple connections from the same phone id, as well as the phone needs to have the multi channel capabilities. Sprint used to block this, but doesn't anymore.

Reading this thread I thought you have all gone bonkers, but since my sgs3 is not connected yet I couldn't test this myself. Well my coworker has the evo lte.....hmm they have the same internals so I got him to try, it certainly does work. This feature is not advertised, would be hilarious if sprint didn't even know this.

lmfao...another thought is this is not a part of the vision upgrade, just something to do with the s4 soc , I bet Verizons sgs3 along wIth other snapdragon powered phones can do it as well

I don't know anything about Samsung ads, but the SVDO capability is listed in all the spec sheets I've seen. Sprint had to request the capability from Samsung, so Sprint must know the feature is included.
This was discussed many times since this phone was released. Shows how much people search and or research their own phone.

Ha. When Sprint activates HD Voice, I anticipate a ton of threads with people asking why voice calls don't sound better on the S3. Then, they'll throw a fit when they're told the S3 doesn't support it. It's just like all the people in non-LTE areas asking why their 4G no longer works even though they had full signal on their Evo or Epic 4G. No one wants to spend time researching their purchases.

I have to admin that when I finally switched from my blackberry to the S3, I was so used to having wifi on that when I was on a call and my email was still coming in or I was able to launch a browser and look things up, I nearly went crazy. Being in IT I never looked up the phone specs to be honest other than being highly anxious to install applications from the Play Store and do things I couldn't do with my old device. Now I'm just looking for a good rom to root the device for wifi, lol.
I've been driving iSheep off the iphone5 with specifically this feature (not that there aren't at least a dozen more. I think that with the financial future of Sprint in the hands of Apple and the sales of iPhones the lack of dual antennas because it has a 'dynamic antenna' is going to cripple anyone who needs/wants that feature. To me SVDO is something that killed me when we didn't have it and now that I do I can never go without it.
Is anybody can explain then why when streaming the radio if I receive a text massage the radio stops (I know because of that ring) but it goes to buffer and chokes till start streaming again. This is the same as any other phone before so SVDS no benefit here.

Mine doesnt choke after resuming pandora but at other times it chokes. Its just pandora not anything related svdo

No. The chipset does not support the SVDO capability.

As for simultaneous voice and data, the Galaxy S4 does support SVLTE but is the latest in a long line of Sprint LTE handsets now to forgo SVDO. Realistically, this comes as no great surprise, as we have not seen SVDO capability in any new handset since last summer. Either this is a limitation of the Qualcomm MDM9615 baseband modem that has become standard equipment or SVDO is no longer a strong priority as Sprint LTE coverage grows weekly. Regardless, CDMA1X and EV-DO share a transmit path (indicated in the FCC OET diagram above); hence, simultaneous CDMA1X voice and EV-DO data is not supported.
