Do digitizers go out on these phones? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

if you look at the bottom under my dock icons it started doing thus a couple days ago. Not sure if my digitizer is going but if i reboot it goes away.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

that looks to be a row of funky lookin pixels, which would be the screen, not the digitizer... the digitizer just registers touch input and does not actually display anything, it just is an overlay over the screen.... as to how to troubleshoot the problem I would grab LCD test from the market and go from there

Playing Sherlock Holmes here... but of it was a problem with the physical screen, I'd imagine it wouldn't show in a screen shot, which implies its something the app can actually capture. I'd try a different rom and see how it goes.
Just an idea

Dude crazy good logic, I was thinking he had a row of stuck pixels or something but you're 100% right, that'd not show up at all in the screencap, I also didn't notice it went away on reboot, I'm thinking that was an edit of the op

Clear circles burnt onto screen...

Hello I have 4 perfect circles going vertically on the right half of my screen, they are about a half inch diamenter. They have an outline of about a 1/10th of an inch outline.
Anyone else have this issue? I tried to take a screenshot but this is a screen issue so it doesn't come out on the pictures. Ill try to get a picture.
Any input on what they could be??
They are more easily viewed on whote backgrounds or any light color background

First ive heard of that. Probably need to try to send it back for exchange.

Did you have an image on screen for an extended period of time? This sounds like a burn in. It happens on these screens when something is on the screen without moving or any changes. It just burns in. If you go thru some of the settings on the phone there is an option that helps against this.

If I use my alarm clock the stock Android one and dim the screen so the large clock shows will that lead to a burn in? It's something I would always do with my old lcd but now I'm scared with this phone
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Are you using a screen protector? If so, try the burn in test without that on and see if those circles are still there. It might just be the screen protector.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
The four circles may be correlated to the four fingertips of your left hand. Could it be that the screen protector is damaged with some kind of oil deposits? Have any KFC lately
I have the same thing. You only see it when you look at the phone from the side... so I don't mind at all

Yes leaving the screen on all night with the clock can cause burn in.

Wait.... so any image in the background can cause burn-in on these screens? That's some BS....I always have a background with images on for a good period of time....
Its always something.

Cracked screen causing color issues?

I recently cracked my screen just one hairline across the screen. I put my phone next to my friends s3 and not only does his screen look brighter but there is colors look better and clearer on his phone. My phone feels foggy almost. I'm getting it fixed by samsung but do u think the repair will fix this color issue I'm having? Never noticed and I'm kinda jealous of his device and the way things look. Any insight is appreciated.

Can you tell if you cracked just the glass or the touchscreen part, etc?
It might just be he has brightness or something turned up
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
It cant be his screen settings I tried now on mulitple s3s and my screen looks foggy and less bright.. my screen works fine but this color thing bothers me. I tried it on full brightness with bith devices.. does anyone know if a cracked screen repair from sammy would fix this?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
You sure you have checked in "brightness" AND "Screen mode" settings ?
But if Samsung are repairing it then why worry as you should get it back all sorted out.
This version of the s3 does not have screen mode settings.. ita forsure a problem with my screen.

Very slow "quick glance" functionality

I just discovered the Quick Glance function where you wave your hand over an off screen and the screen turns on to show you some notifications.
I love it.
Only problem is that it's super slow on my phone. Average screen on time is about 5 seconds so it's much easier and faster to just hit a button to turn on the phone.
Is this function slow on everyone's phone? I am using apex launcher and swift key if it matters.

I've noticed it can be reasonably responsive after a reboot. But right now at my desk, its taking about 2 seconds to come on.
Mine takes several seconds too. I turned it off for that reason plus it uses the proximity sensor at all times. Go into a dark room and look at the phone, you'll notice a dull red glow from the prox sensor. I didn't like what that must be doing to my battery especially since the sensors don't show up in the battery stats so that you can see exactly how much it's using.
Yep, it's really slow for me too. Half the time I wonder if I swiped the sensor properly or not. Turned it off.

Slow for me as well.....also worried about what its going to do for battery life too.

I see the same battery life with it on or off. 5-6 hours screen on time depending on what I'm doing and what's running in the back ground. And yes mine takes 2 seconds to come on too which doesn't bother me at all.

Maybe you not waving your hand right. I know that sound stupid but after a while playing with it when I first got the phone it took a while for me to learn how to actually get it to work, you wave your hand a distance away from the screen. If you do it to close it won't come on.

It is. But I like the lil cool factor it has when people see me use it as opposed to the home button. When I use home button I get Samsung is trying to get as similar to Apple as possible. But I do like the home button lol

My quick glance also gets slower after a while, but once I restart the phone, it becomes quite fast again (within 1 second).

Annoying Screen Timeout!

So I'm watching a video (expanded to full screen) on the stock browser at night in a dark room when the screen times out.
I can't find any way of switching the screen timeout off, and have to resort to setting the time to maximum and having to reopen the screen and restart the video every 10 minutes.
There has to be a solution to this annoying problem? Please?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Is smart stay enabled or is it just not working on the dark room ? If smart stay is not working then you can just pull out the s pen from it's holder or hover with the s pen instead of closing the video.

Im not troll..but i heard many issue of burn screen come from Amoled display..do some search, u will find the tread which discuss about burn screen..
Here one of them from note 2 thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967803
U can found more from note 1 thread..
Not saying watch video can confirm the screen burn issue..just saying maybe it can cause life span of screen burn become short..but definately amoled screen can not avoid it..

Fair enough, but there is "no issue."
Why have this phone if you don't use it? Besides, full screen is probably one way to AVOID burn in.
What are you even talking about?

Yes, this avoids the screen burn. Screen burn only happens because some of the led's are used more than others which is why some degrade faster which results in varying color contrasts. Using full screen almost all the time however, uses all of the led's, thus all of them will degrade at a slightly similar rate and the change of color contrast would not be as noticeable to the common eye.

If you mean stock internet browser it will time out don't know why I streamed hell in a cell last week had the same issue doesn't happen on any other phone I know of just this one...I had to stretch the screen so it looked full screen and it stayed on strange I know

I'm having the same problem not sure why there would be this problem considering no phone for the last 4 years have had this problem. Terrible overt sight by Google/Samsung. Really interested if some one finds the solution to this.
Use Profile Scheduler from the play store it lets you set up a profile with a setting for screen time out never option. Thats the only reason I use it. I listen to alot of music in my truck and it keeps the musoc player from going to sleep.
Screen time out issue is only when watching flash enabled videos in browser.
Reason : Flash is not supported in Jellybean officially,
So just using flashplayer.apk will not rewrite screen timeout settings in system files.
And, smart stay doesn't work in dark room with lights off.

Dirt under screen?

Guys I noticed something really annoying where as when there is a white background application like play store, WhatsApp, even xda I could see some particles that are not moving when I'm scrolling. I thought it was screen protector so I removed it, cleaned the screen and I could still see these particles which I guess they are dirty. Our are they something else maybe screen is damaged? And if it's dirt how did it get in there? It's only a month used.
If you could try it with me on your note 2 that would be great.
Put brightness on maximum no auto. Open play store and look closely and scroll to see any stable Black dots.

If you mean that white things aren't really white like other devices and somehow has black spots, than thats normal I guess.. I have the same thing.. that annoyed me for a while but I became used to it.
It might be something to do with non-Pentile amoled screen.

Yes. And not only the whites any other bright colour like here in xda u can see black spots, very tiny but plenty that they are obvious. I just want a confirmation if that is dirt and not my screen is faulty somehow.
