I have custom JB ROM but my service provider has sent a stock system update to 4.1. I disabled the notification but the popup to install/more info/ install later pops up multiple times a day. Is there a way to disable this? or say no?
do a bit of searching. This has been asked and discussed a few times this past week.
sent from my Galaxy Nexus running official Jelly Bean!!!!
Update to the latest version of your custom ROM, which is surely built on 4.1.1. Or you can change your build.prop to say you're already on 4.1.1. Backup the build.prop before changing anything of course.

Here's my log cat from the time the dialog appeared. I think its something to do with the SMS line?? How to i find out who's sending it?

Anyone got any ideas?
My advice, get the official factory image from google for IMM76D.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Use that to go to stock 4.0.4 (backup what you need you will lose everything)
Once back to stock, just root and install the IMM76I update.

umm didnt want to have to totally reset phone.
Ive downloaded the factory image, how do i install it then?
Use Odin to flash the firmware. Should be fairly easy considering the number of guides available.

Erm ok ive flashed stock Google and as i was signing into Google on first boot to restore contacts i get "sending..." at the bottom of the screen again ...
What the hell is doing this??? Is no one else getting this toast dialog?
And im getting error -101 when trying to download anything from market...
On a plus side the latest update has already come through and its installing right now.
hello guys, i downgraded for 4.1.1 revolution hd this week, but system update notification keep appearing everytime. i already tried fotakill.apk method, but after reboot update still appears. so what is the best method to disable this?
thanks
Use a custom ROM that does it's job like it should; you should never receive a OTA update notification while on a custom ROM.
a maguro wrote this.
Im currently running a rooted Nexus 5 with PA 4.2-BETA5, of course with Android 4.4.2
Guess its time to update now, and 4.4-RC1 just came out, but im certainly not secure how to proceed.
Right now, in my phone im getting alerts that, from one side PA 4.4-RC1 is available but also i have notifies of the Stock Android version 4.4.3 is ready to download and install...
Which one should i install? should i apply the Stock 4.4.3 first and then the OTA PA 4.4? or just the OTA PA 4.4?
i also heard that im suposed to flash the radio/modem, is that true? if so, can someone please clarify?
Sorry if all these sound n00b questions but im not familiar with this yet.
Regards
You can't apply a stock ota on top of a ROM and our system alert is telling you there is a ROM update. I don't see how you can get an alert from google about an update.

Simply because the default google update check was not disabled by Paranoid, and 4.4.3 was pushed so the notification came in.
Looks like PA team forgot to remove that check

The system update section is tied into the ota app...
We have never gotten any notifications of google ota

Well, what can i say? i got it, and it was there for the last 3 days, annoying, since it cant even be disabled
a workaround was the disable the notification of google play services, which i did
I heard same stuff happened to CM rom were users where getting the default google stock notification about 4.4.3 being ready to download.
now i have updated to PA 4.4-RC1 and everything is fine.
And you didn't happen to catch a screenshot? Obviously if there is something we missed in the update section we want to clear it up....

I did not take any screenshot, sorry, but i can guarantee you it was the default room notification, a new system update is available, bla bla bla, 4.4.3 press the download button to start, and i also recall that the size was something like 93MB, 93.xx , cant remember the last 2 digits.
I never had a chance to look into the PA source code, but at least in the 4.2-beta5 which was the build i had running yesterday the default google OTA check was not disabled, and we all know that google release it so its normal to get the notification
I assume it would be just a matter of flash a device with PA 4.2-beta5 and give it a try, i was using hammerhead, a nexus 5 device...
Want to block OTA updates on my 8.4 Wifi. Anyone know what apk/file(s) to rename/freeze to keep it from trying to update? I'm rooted, but still on the stock ROM.
I believe it will not update ota now that its rooted, simple test is to check for update, go through that, it should end up telling you something like, file have been change or modified or something and it wont let you update

It's trying to update & I just keep selecting the 3 hour postponement. I'm rooted and it's still trying. On my phone (GS4) I renamed the update apk, but I don't know the filename of the one on the tab.

On mine I went into 'settings/general/about device/software update' and unticked automatically check for updates. Then booted into recovery (stock recovery still on mine) and cleared the cache (which I believe deletes the OTA update file) then rebooted.
Since doing that I have not had any software update notifications and the OTA file hasn't reappeared.
My tab is on the original stock ROM and rooted with Towelroot.
I have literally said yes to updating every time it pops up. I know it's the same, because it's the same size every time (293.3 MB). Not to mention I've said "accept" every time, installed, reboots my device, then couple days later it tells me to do it again. Another thing to note are the same 3 systems apps asking to be updated (Voice Mate Speech Pack, Voice Mate, Voice Mate Engine).
Text from the update:
This update will ensure your device is working at optimal performance with the Sprint Network. The update will require that your phone is rebooted and it will not be available for emergency calls while installing the software.
My LG G3 is the Sprint variant (ls990), rooted via Stump Root and on the stock android. I have used G3 TweaksBox, as well as installed Xposed.
PM me for a link to the screenshots.
Anyone with an answer? Google only refers to Lollipop updates that are still not here anyways

You know OTA`s will only be installed when a device is unrooted and doesn`t have any system modifications. Either disable OTA notifications or flash a stock rom and have root removed or flash a custom recovery and rom.

Yaar my issue still exists its not rooted and I am using in Pakistan - also my Roaming setting crashes as soon as I open it. Would be better to root and add custom ROM to it?
