Anyone else notice this about plugging in the headphones..? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So, I use my phone as an MP3 player in my car (audio male -> audio male into the head unit) and noticed that if I turn the volume up on the phone, the phone actually vibrates whenever it seems like there might be some bass.
Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I don't think it's a problem. Try going to settings> sound> "auto haptic".
If it's on, I think that may be what's causing it.

Seems more of a hardware issue than software to me. Did you try a pair of headphones that you know works?
Is your phone docked when you do this?

All the headphones I have tried work
And my phone is not docked when trying to play. I did read that there were problems when connected to blue tooth and aux at the same time

So far everything I have tried to plug into works so I'm guessing it could be something with my car.
Anyone else have a saab 93 and an s3?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I've had my S3 since 7/1 and never had any issues. My friend just got an S3 as well and he's got a 2009 93 Aero and he has the exact same issue. We tested with multiple cables and both of our phones, they both exhibit the exact same behaviour. We've yet to figure out what causes this though. It's definitely something with the GM radio in the car as it does not happen like this anywhere else. you're not alone but dont have any answer for you.
Well at least it's not a problem with my phone I guess.
Have you tried on any of other roms, or just stock?
If you find a way around this let me know/ill do the same

Do elaborate. What's odd? What's the source of the sound? Speaker? Or simply the vibration unit?
A buzzing sound. Coming from the vibrating unit itself.

I find the vibration unit of my gnex rather strong. I use a custom kernel that allows one to turn it down a notch. Could help with your buzzing sound perhaps.
Its quite annoying as I got caught in class with my phone because of it lol first day of senior year too xDxD

You have to get a custom kernel and turn the strength down. I use fancy kernel and trickster mod app

[Q] Screen touch sounds

I've had this phone for about a month and a half, and almost every single day I have to go into the sounds setting to disable the "screen touch sounds". Has anyone ever had that issue before? I have the phone set up the way I like it, and don't change anything in the settings anymore, but somehow I'll be going to do something and I hear that silly noise when I select something. I know it's not a big deal, but it drives me crazy. Any advice?

Same for me. I ended up going in with root explorer and replacing the sound files with silent files to stop the sound from coming back.

i havent had that problem at all, ever since i got the phone and rooted with phantoms blaze rom its been working flawlessly, no issues here.
I've noticed it only happens when you change the camera to video or back to camera. So its the camera modes turning it back on. Try it out for yourself.

Weird Sound Bug

Almost everytime i plug headphones into my Galaxy S III, no sound plays into them. What i noticed, is that when i try to turn up the volume, the little sound icon that is next to the volume bar, has a slash through it. I have tried every combination of sound setting (that i know of) and the only way to fix it is a restart. This is VERY annoying so if anyone has any thoughts or help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Are you using any sound app?

I've had that slash through the sound icon as well. But I was still getting sound through my headphones.. but you were saying how you get no sound at all coming out of both headphones if they are plugged in as well as the speaker phone?

Try changing the SoundAlive setting in Music Player.
Also try changing these:
Settings > Accessory > Audio Output and Audio Applications.
Settings > Accessibility > Mono Audio
Have you tried different headphones? How about the ones which came with the S3?

Well if the stock ones work then it sounds like the problem may be with the earphones you are using. Can you try them in another phone? (Preferably another s3) are they older earphones? If so it could be the cord is worn where it connects to the plug.

Headphone audio issues

When I plug my headphone in, audio is not being routed through it; it just plays through the phone's speaker. I've tried loading up backups where the audio was working to no avail; I think this is a hardware issue but wanted to make sure. Anyone else expeirence this?
Never had the issue, Odin to stock to make sure, or try different headphone.,then if the issue persists then it's hardware

Tried that first thing, but no luck. Running stock rom as well
Interesting. When I use soundabout, I can manually force audio to be played through the headphone, and it works. Removing the headphones results in no audio unless I change the setting in soundabout.

Sometimes, there can be something stuck inside the headphone jack. Does your headphone go in all the way? You might want to to clean the contacts for the input.

It goes in all the way. Sometimes, applying a lot of pressure will cause the headphone to be recognized, but relieving the pressure makes it revert, making me think it is a hardware issue.
When I was a" tech" at verizon. We would put in/ pull out the headphone jack repeatedly(quickly) reboot. Majority of the time it worked. Hope that helps

Sounds like a hardware issue. Wouldn't hurt to buy a new headphone port. Parts for the N2 are fairly cheap and easy to replace

True, but it is the installation I am worried about. I DO have a warranty on it...
It looks like it works if I lay the phone flat and jiggle the cord a bit. I may be able to live with that.

If you have warranty, I'd most definitely get it fixed. I use my headphones almost daily so I would have gotten in fixed in a heartbeat
Have you tried cleaning your contacts? (The metal 'prongs' inside if the headphone jack.)

Tried with five different headsets already.
I took a toothpick and a wire tie to clean it out. No dirt emerged. What else would you recommend to clean the prongs?
