Is there any way to restore the default Android boot animation? My Archos 101 G9 doesn't have a /data/customization folder, so cannot remove the stock Archos animation.

which rom/firmware? in case of rooted stock firmwares
try /data/local
my bootanimation.zip is there (ics 4.0.3, archos 4.0.7 rooted). just delete (or rename) your bootanimation.zip.
what do you mean with "default Android boot animation" and "stock Archos animation". it's the same i guess, or do you have a customized rom?

Using the rooted stock ROM from surdu_petru.
By default, I mean the word "Android" with animated highlight. The stock Archos boot animation is the Archos logo with animated highlight.
/data/customization doesn't exist, and there is no bootanimation.zip file anywhere on the device - I've searched using the search function in Root Explorer.

mmh, no chance i think.
my archos starts in 2 parts. first visible is a static logo "Archos", then a blank screen for maybe 2 seconds and then appears the changeable bootanimation.zip (by default the Archos logo too, but with color cycling until the desktop comes up).
you can change only the second part!
the first static logo is a picture in the framework.res! you cannot change without recompiling the resources or the whole system.

by default there is no bootanimation.zip in /data/whatever...
you have to put your own in /data/local !
if any zip exist, it will be shown instead of archos build in animation.

Found a CWM-flashable version, extracted the bootanimation.zip from that, placed it in /data/local and rebooted. Works like a charm.

The stock Archos bootanimation(just like the Google ones) is located in framework-res.apk.

Hi all,
Here I post the Nexus S Bootanimation, extracted from the System Dump provided under Galaxy S Development forums.
Copy the .zip file with Root Explorer into system/media/ replacing the one you have, make a backup of your Boot Animation first!
Megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DHXFPJQI
Mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?1v6aj8wrsa2nsal
Have fun!
Edit: It seems to be the same exact Boot Animation from the Nexus One, so the Nexus S has no new animation
Edit 2: Been playin a bit with the Nexus S System Dump, nice new ringtones added, and really nice things, I will try to get the Screen Off Animation, but don't know which file is it! :S
Can you please post another mirror...mega upload is not allowed in my ofc network
Edited first post with another download link.
thanks, works perfectly
The screen off animation would be great
Will this work with any rom and not affect the theme.
Beamed from my sweet Galaxy S with doc's jpo v9 zenkinz oc and R64s theme.
Works with any ROM as you are changing /system files. Replacing manually the bootanimation.zip is fine if you have Root Explorer, if not, just download Boot Animation Changer LITE from the Market and apply Nexus One Bootanimation, which sadly is the same as the Nexus S Bootanimation.
Can you extract the new live wallpaper? (Nexus neuronal) which is diffrent that the posted in the forums. Thanks.
post up the new ringtones
how to backup the bootanimation.zip from the root explorer? do i have to transfer it to internal sd or what? sorry, noob here.
+1 for screen off animation.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Sorry for being thick, I downloaded the .zip, then opened root explorer and browsed to system\media to copy the original as stated above, but I don't have any such file?
Running JPU 2.2.1 installed via Odin and rooted with CF-Root 1.3.
EDIT: Bit of searching gave the answer, need a kernal that supports boot animations... CF-root appears not to then... shame
To backup your previous Bootanimation, just copy/paste the one in /system/media/ somewhere in your Internal or External SD.
About the screen off animation, I don't have a clue where is it placed in /system, so I can't get it :S
About the ringtones, Darky's ROM comes with all the Nexus S Ringtones, just download Darky's v7 and extract the zip in your desktop and navigate to /system/media/audio, and you will find the ringtones, alarms and notification ringtones from the Nexus S.
I'm using a Voodoo kernel but i also dont see the "original" boot animation.
I just placed it there, it didnt replace anything, rebooted and it worked!
Thank you OP!

Hi Paco,
first of all, gracias!! I'm willing to give this a try.
Regarding the sthudown animation, the post dated 14/12/10 by aitorsantana in http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=160474&page=3 seems to point all the shutdown animation frames to be stored in /system/video/media/shutdown

The update files were meant for Lulz/Tegrak kernel so those files wouldn't work with stock rom. I also have yet to try those script on CWM as well.
The easiest path right now is to install the Lulz/Tegrak kernel via odin from this thread

Question, are you familiar with ADB? Odin? Rooting? Is your SGS2 still stock?

The boot animation itself actually will work with most phone but these has been packaged to work with sanim.zip boot animation.
You can check your /system/media see if you have boot animation.zip or sanim.zip and just extract my sanim.zip to replace the file.

I just wanted to share my first custom boot logo for anyone that would like it. I know the model number font is wrong but I could not figure out the right one to replicate it so I gave up and decided if faking a new phone I can say that Samsung tried a new look.
To use this on your phone follow these instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136699
Although I had to replace the mount line with this one *in the .bat file
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 /mnt/.lfs
If you find the appropriate font (I also don't know what it is off by heart) then I think this will give it a more "official" look, and then it'll look 10 x better.
Thanks for sharing
Hopefully someone can tell me so I can make it look better.

The boot logo is separate from the boot animation, but either way I was editing the originals. But that does not change the fact of creating a 2 when you don't know the font settings to use and don't want to brute force it.
Why don't you guys go the Apple way of doing things and have a Galaxy S 2S/2.5?
The closest font I found for you was Myriad Arabic. There's only very minor differences in the font. If you search the 'myriad' collection of fonts you may find it, or one event closer.
See attachment. All i've changed is the number 2, and i've copied the 'II' to make a 'III'.
The '2' could do with being a tiny bit bolder.

My phone is running the stock boot animation and bootanimation.zip isn't present.
First off, in system/media/audio/ui I renamed poweron.ogg to poweron.bak and pushed the new sound file to the same location and set permissions to 6-4-4.
Secondly, in system/media I renamed bootsamsung, bootsamsungloop and shutdown qmg files to .bak (the other three files aren't present on my phone) then pushed all six qmg files to the same location, set permissions on all six to 6-4-4 and rebooted.
The new boot animation, boot sound and shutdown animation all worked fine.
EDIT:
You may need to disable custom boot animations first for it to work (ie: no bootanimation.zip).
This thread (see post #5) has files to flash in clockworkmod for enable/disable custom boot animation - I have not personally used it so offer no guarantees but hopefully it will help.

Hey guys, I've tried to flash and/or manually install every iteration of the new Android L bootanimation onto the Gnex with either the result of a black bootscreen or the phone simply does not boot at all until I return the current bootanimation I have. I don't know what the issue is or what I have done wrong, I've tried modifying the dimensions with no resolution either.
So I humbly ask, could someone get a working version of the new Android L Bootanimation in flashable form for the Galaxy Nexus? Please.
I just transfered the bootabimation.zip to the correct folder while backing up the old.
I went the old fashioned way without using a flashable zip

Still doesn't work. I even did a fresh install with the bootanimation added to system/media where it's supposed to go and all I get after the Google splash is one little green pixel and then the screen stays black until the phone is booted. I have done no modifications to the bootanimation.zip on this or any of the others I have tried, I simply delete the bootanimation.zip already in system/media and then add the Android L bootanimation. It simply does not work at all. I really don't understand what the problem is. Every other bootanimation I've tried out works fine.
I have no idea then. I literally just changed the old one to bootanimation.zip.old and copied the new one over.
