I'm running the stock kernel right now with Android Revolution ROM. Anyone have a kernel on their GNex that they really like?
You're pretty limited as most of the kernel developers have gone on to 4.0.3.

Pretty much what he said. Your only alternative is to use MoDaCo's 4.0.2 ROM allowing 4.0.3 kernels. But I'd just recommend using AOKP, its on 4.0.3 and you can combine that with Franco's kernel. Amazing combination and I recommend it.
I was using ARHD but he never updated to 4.0.3 as he's waiting for the binaries for 4.0.3 on Google's part. I don't fully agree with what he's doing so I moved onto AOKP. AOKP offers a lot more features that are amazing and every update just brings on new features that I really like. So you should check that out
If you want the "leaked" 4.0.3 from somewhere, use one of those rom, but might not be stable. I am using arhd with james bond kernel with 1.35 oc uv, it run like better, no crash, stable like stock. The choice is your, stable or not stable. Most of the rom out there are just diffetent name but 99% are the same.

4.0.3 is not leaked. It's compiled off AOSP source. And it very much stable. AOKP is also not the same as the other ROMs. Unique features such as changing color of the clock, adding PM/AM, smaller PM/AM, center clock, power saver are there. This is what separates this ROM from the rest.
Gotcha, thanks guys. There are are a few things I've been wanting to do with 4.0.3 anyway, so maybe I'll bit the bullet and switch to a different ROM. I looked into AOKP and Franco's kernel and they both sound pretty good.
Just took the plunge - AOKP with Franco's kernel. It is sa-weeeet!

ya i donno where you're getting your information from but running aokp has been the smoothest, most stable rom experience I've had.

Using ARHD 2.1.1. Since it's 4.0.2 you're limited in available kernels since most are being developed for 4.0.3. But with that said I'm using Jame Bond Kernel w/ 1.35 oc and uv.
Only had one fc, other than that it's been very stable.
Another quite popular ROM is Bigxie's 4.0.3 based one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399238).
Along with Franco's kernel, this combination really flies, with great battery life!
I highly recommend it. Franco also has a market app which makes updates more convenient and also offers easy access to options such as overclocking.
Franco's is awesome. He has a handy auto-update app on the market.

Just installed it does this auto-check for you, or do you have to manually open it to check for kernel updates?

You do need to open the app to check for updates.

Just wondering which kernel is currently offering the best battery life
Are you talking about GSM or LTE?
For LTE they all seem to be about the same except stock. That's a little worse.
Sorry I should of said, I am a GSM user
Franco's 12 works great

franco kernel
This needs a bump.
Trinity kernel. I'm using beta 65 at the moment, but most of his kernels are great for battery, especially if you undervolt and under clock the CPU.

Trinity 65c, 307/1036 stock voltage.
Very smooth and responcive.
CM9 kang powered by TRINITY
Running Franco kernel r180. I under clock it to 1036MHz, use Wi-Fi when possible (avoiding cdma/lte if I can, but obviously that's tough when I leave the house and am driving). I also keep brightness around 25%.

Definitely Trinity. Why did you not include it here? And why did you not include an "Other" option?

Because the poll was made in January and didn't need to be bumped, but someone thought we needed ANOTHER POLL ABOUT KERNELS that won't really help anyone.
CMPlus.
What rom do you currently have on your galaxy nexus?
just got a nexus and has kang rom on it. i want to know what the best rom is
battery life and such things.
THANKS BROS
AOKP and lean kernel. Fastest and best battery life.

AOKP and some kernel. I personally use Franco Kernel but look around and see what you like the most.
where can i find this rom? thanks for quick replies
Check the Dev section.
Goodluck!
Now with AOKP, use to be Slim. Both of them are great.
right now i think AOKP is the best. i used the official CM9 nightlies and there were pretty awesome, but still needs some features that i really need
Official CM9 Nightlies, Franco kernel.
Faster than the speed of light.

I'm using codename and just recently switched to francos 18.4 and now 18.6 kernel. I have zero complaints, the only thing I haven't gotten to work is Google plus hangout video chat but I haven't updated to the latest gapps yet. I bet I will try akop one day since it is so popular (maybe at milestone 4) but I have no reason to. Codename is killer smooth.

I was running ARHD but switched to the most recent CM9 nightly earlier this morning. CM9 is faaaaassst and so far no issues. Oh and I'm using the stock CM9 kernel.

When people say you have to try every from and find one for you, that's completely untrue for the galaxy nexus, once you try AOKP you won't change at least until MIUI is official for me

Definitely liking AOKP Milestone 3. Plenty stable for me, and adds some nice features not included with the stock ROM. Paired with GladOS 1.15 kernel. Butter smooth, ~3+ hours screen on time with the stock GSM battery.
apparently aokp is the boss rom

AOKP and Morfic Trinity kernel... I've been testing alot of kernel and trinity is by far the smoothest and as amazing battery life! And for those who use quadrant as reference ; I average 3700 on ondemand

Why is everyone who uses AOKP suggests other kernel? Is the kernel that comes with AOKP not good enough?

I personally got best battery life and smoothness using lean kernel after testing every other kernel. Different results for different people I guess so you'll have to try kernels out yourself and see what you find best

I've just switched to the Glados Kernel found on RootzWiki with AOKP, and it's the best combination I've tried so far I think.
Just interested. I want a kernel that has good battery life, I have tried franco & cmtuna. I think cmtuna has better battery life than franco, but what do you use.
I use popcorn-kernel and it works very well. Glados and Trinity are great, too.

+1 with Glados kernel
But,to the op...this is a recurring question...Get as many answers as there are different kernel+all the different settings (CPU freq,GPU freq,undervolt,hotplug,etc...)+the rom used+your personnal settings (sync,brightness,widgets,wifi,etc...)+your use...
For me it's impossible to give an answer like that "what's the best kernel"...It depends on to many factors...
Testing other kernel for at least 4/5 days with your usage and see...Take time also to read the feedbacks of the different kernel topics and the changelogs, sometimes it's useful.
A kernel it's not like a full rom,not necessary to do a full wipe each time and loose your settings,etc...So you can flash a kernel easily each 4/5 days and see wich is the best for you,no?
Someone will say xxx kernel is the best for me and after another will say oh no poor battery life with the xxx kernel, same for all other kernel...What do you do?
There is not the kernel alone, which depends of battery life...and that's for sure.
This is a very subjective question, as the answers ...Nothing is known of your usage, your rom, etc. ...You have tested Francisco and ch33kybutt's kernel...and...Battery life is bad,not great,ch33kybutt's kernel better than xxx...And...???
what do you mean by "I want a kernel that has good battery life"...First check your settings for you like I said above, your usage and see...
And guys said good battery life with xxx kernel...just like that, just for a post or...
I have the best battery life with the awesomeincredibleamazinggreat kernel...,I'm happy with 2 hours deep sleep and 5 mins screen-on...awesome...It corresponds to my use and what I hoped!Great great!
Voilà...It depends on how you use your phone and how is for you a good battery life...
I'm using morfic's Trinity kernel. It's the fastest kernel I've tried and battery-life is great, even though the GPU-overclock.
Skickat från min Galaxy Nexus via Tapatalk 2
I'm going to go against the grain and say I haven't noticed a significant difference between the kernels. Undervolting doesn't even do much, the processor drain is insignificant compared to the screen.

Is there anyway I can download the stock kernel that came with 4.0.4? This is incase I want to go back, (now running stock rom again)
I'm using the Franco kernel. With the stock kernel I was getting stuttering audio playback when disk I/O was going on. The Franco kernel has some I/O scheduling optimizations that fixed the issue for me.

I have only tried stock, glados, and Franco. Glados would heat up my phone at times, and franco does it less and better battery performance .

I use Franco's kernel. There were some issues with the last couple of nightly builds but they seem to be resolved (at least for me) in the lastest 166. Get his app from the Playstore for ease of configuration.
I use the CMplus, he works with no problems CM9.
Before CMplus, I preferred the Lean Kernel, but CMplus is at the moment my favorit.
opinion
i find franco has best blend of battery life and speed
Trinity.
Been looking at the threads couldn't find the answer wats the smoothest from for u guys I'm running cm9 rc1 with trinity no under clock or over clock with nova prime and its a lil choppy at times. I'm coming over from atrix just got this on friday

Few app incompatibilities and the volume seems lower than usual.. nothing too major and that won't be fixed shortly.

Smoother w/ the stock kernel compared to what other kernels?
I would like some devs to comment on this just to clear up some issues, but I am reading that these JB kernels are basically just shots in the dark and real improvement over stock cannot occur until JB source is released. I would like to see lively discussion about this, with benchmarks, stability reports, and other comparisons between these kernels and stock.

Smoothest Rom
1,
I would say use AOKP milestone 5 with franco kernal which i find the smoothest and has many added features.
2, Apply JellyBean with some new added features added from google,Plus its super smooth though there some apps not working which will be fixed with new updates
