Hi all,
I've built a .dll file with icons for customising the programs folder of the start menu. I've attached this file with an example of how it can be used in a .zip archive.
For those not used to working with shortcuts (.ink) and/or .dll files instructions are as follows:
1) Unpack "Start Menu.zip" to a folder of your choice on your computer.
2) Copy "Start Menu.dll" to "\Windows\" on your device, using Active Sync.
3) Again using active sync go to "\Windows\Start Menu\" on your device.
4) Back up your programs folder by copying the folder entitled "Programs" and pasting it to a folder of your choice on your computer.
5) Open the Programs folder on you device using ActiveSync.
6) Open each program group folder here (e.g. "Games") in turn, cutting the program shortcuts (e.g Notes.lnk) out of the folders into the main "Programs" folder on the device then delete the folder.
(N.B. You should not cut any shortcuts called "ICON.lnk" out of the individual program group folders. These will be in "Office Mobile" and "Games" folders, and possibly some others, which display their own icon already.)
7) Open the "Programs" folder that you extracted from the "Start Menu.zip" archive.
8) Select all the folders present and copy them to the Programs folder (\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\) on your phone, using ActiveSync.
9) Copy your program shortcuts into the program group folders as required.
To undo simply delete the entire contents of "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" and then copy the contents of the folder that you copied over from your phone in step 4) above.
Have fun!
screenshot please thank you
Thanks for posting, works a treat. Any chance of a Microsoft folder icon?

Hi,
thanks for this, I was trying to do the same but got stuck at the links creation.
What do you use to create the .link files?
I have found a little .vbs script that creates .lnk files on my desktop but always appends "C:\" to the path I define so I can not use them on the device.
many thanks for your answer.
bump!
Are you still developing on this customisation? Are you able to provide a cab file? ... having some trouble with access permissions when moving the files as described in step 6-8

Hi jleung87
You need to use a program called Total Commander. It's free, search for it.

Hi hpsmartz
Copy an existing link on your phone and paste it to a different location. Then rename the lnk file and edit it using a program called Total Commander. After this you can cut and paste it back into the desired location.

By closing the Windows Explorer I mean just closing it with the red cross at the top.
NOT the explorer.exe process. The windows Explorer != Explorer.exe
lol... just re-restarted again my pc.... and noticed there is no watermark now....
hadn't done anything except install the latest graphic drivers... :s
Works great . Thank you .
Didn't work for me, any help?
I tried 2 times, but nothing changed.
First time I just closed all open explorer windows and copied-replaced with cmd.
The second time I ended explorer.exe process to be sure, the replacement was again succesful according to cmd messages, run mcbuilder (it took 10 seconds to complete), restarted but the watermark is still there.
32-bit English
It worked for me too..
Finally got it to work. I followed all the instructions posted with the file, then changed my theme from "Windows" to "Windows Basic". Now the watermark is gone and you can switch back to my previous "Windows" Theme
In my first reboot didnt worked, now it disappeared, thanks bro!

Yes! That did it!
I rebooted many times, I also disable and reenable my nvidia driver, but only the theme change made the watermark disappear.

Hello Friends. Today I will show for us how to Make an Flashable Icon Pack
-First Of All you need to Download an Icon Pack Flashable (Can be ICS Icon Pack)

Now you can follow Step By Step
1. Unzip your Downloaded Flashable Icon Pack
2. Look at The Folders Unziped

3. Open The Unpack folder ( You Will see the Name of Apps: browser.apk, calculator.apk)
Open Folder and Look at The Name of Icon of any App
You Can Write in a Word File The Name of app and the name of The icon
Do this with all .apks folder
4. Now Search an Custom Icon Pack
You Can Choose in this Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824656
5. Now You Will need to put All names of the Icons what you Write in the New Icons
Example: "ic_launcher_browser.png" in the name of The New Icon

hi. well this wasn't really clear to me, so i have several questions.. i got samsung with an ICS rom. most system files, that i want to change their icons, have the names preceded with "sec" (i.e. secMMS.apk, secBrowser.apk). i tried to flash an icon zip, to no avail, it didn't work. probably becuase of these difference in names. i also found, in the tmp folder of the icon pack, the Icon.sh file.. it contains the addresses of the files. the contents are like:
#!/tmp/busybox sh
/tmp/apkreplacer /system/app/Browser.apk res/drawable-ldpi/ic_launcher_browser.png /sdcard/unpack/Browser.apk/res/drawable-ldpi/ic_launcher_browser.png >> /sdcard/test.log 2>&1
should i change the addresses and make it like /tmp/apkreplacer /system/app/secBrowser.apk res/drawable-ld... ?
also. my rom is odexed. so i have secBrowser.apk and secBrowser.odex ... this applies to other system apps.
can i flash the zips normally, or do i have to take into account the odex files?
please enlighten me. thnx.

Hey, this is the Bunemo soft keys mod brought to you guys by me. These soft keys aren't originally my idea, they belong to xNiikk who is a very talented and gifted themer. He made these soft keys foe the Galaxy Nexus and they looked really small on our devices because of the higher pixel density so I just re-made them four our Nexus 4. They should work on other devices that have the same pixel density. If they do then please let me know. They aren't exactly identical but I tried my best and I will update them as and when I fix any flaws that are pointed out. All credits go to xNiikk for the original idea and for giving me permission to port them over. Instructions to use them and link to the original soft keys are given below.
Should you somehow break/brick your device, I am not responsible for this. Use this at your own risk. Don't come and blame me if you did something wrong. Follow the instructions and you should be fine.
Instructions: (Using Zip Themer)
1. Download and install Zip Themer from the Play Store.
2. Download the MMZT_softkeys_bunemo.zip from the link posted below.
3. If this is the first time using ZipThemer, hit the (hidden) menu key -> Hit "Update Edify" -> Hit "Browse" (pick the zip file of the ROM that you currently running on your phone) -> Hit "Configure" -> Then hit the 'back' softkey to return to the main screen.
4. Click the "+Theme" button, browse to the download folder and select the Bunemo soft keys zip file that you have just downloaded using the link below. It's probably saved in the /sdcard/downloads folder.
5. Click the "Build It!" button, and when it prompts if you want to make an "undo-zip", click "Always"
6. You will now see the output screen with the Build Log, check if everything went alright, it will show that a zip file has been created on /sdcard/
7. Reboot your phone to Recovery after this and flash the "MMZT_bunemo-update.zip" file that is created on /sdcard/
8. Done! If you experience problems or want to undo the action just flash the "MMZT_bunemo-undo.zip" that's also located on /sdcard/

This is an Easy Tutorial, How to Decompile .apk and Recompile .apk Files
Requirements
JDK (last version)
JRE (last version, usually included in JDK or Java)
Auto_Apktool 2.0.0
Here We Start-
1) Download and simply unpack Auto_ApkTool
2)Click on "autoapktoolmain.bat", prompt will open
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3)put the apk you want to EDIT, in "_INPUT_APK"
4) Nw u Should Choose "option 6" for 'decompiling .apk
5) when option 6 is being selected, drag the apk from _INPUT_APK folder into the windows prompt and click enter
6) A Note window will appear, and will show IF the decompiling process has been done properly. Once you close that window, you will see the decompiled folder in _INPUT_APK folder
7) do your edits (xml, smali, or png, WHATEVER)
8) recompile with option 7 (NOTE: this time you MUST drag all the FOLDER, NOT the apk)
9) Once recompiling finished, u will Get a Dcompiled NOTE window that Shows your apk is sucessfully Compiled, Close that Window, Once open the decompiled folder, go to "dist" folder, and here you got your edited apk
10) NOW this is the Last step, since u cannot Sign System app, u will have to Copy the META-INF foldrer frm the Orginal apk to the edited apk, for more Info See the "Screen"
11) Rename the apk if Needed, and push it.
