That is how its supposed to be. If you install a game for example, it's data will be stored on your external SD which will cause your storage to decrease far slower (only the "apk" file will be on the internal memory). It will still show as being a large amount (e.g. 1.9GB), but that isn't actually from the "real" internal SD.
Ok so look at this then I'm trying to install something that's under a gb and it won't let me install it says free up some more space to install
Plzzzzz help based on the pics!! :-[

Everything looks OK so space is not the issue here. Even if the mod wasn't enabled 4+GB is way more than enough space. Try clearing the dalvik cache and cache via recovery. Also check if you have any "odex" files in your /data/app/ (none should be there though, but that could also cause the probelm).
OK in data/app there are only my normal apps installed
And how do I clear dalvik cache in recovery???????
Like how do I go into recovery and do that????????

If you have a custom recovery, like CWM or TWRP, its under the wipe menus. Cache and Dalvik, don't wipe anything else.
Depending on the ROM, you can reboot into recovery if you hold down the power button (CM9/CM10) or you can just power off, shut down the tablet, then:
Hold Volume - (closest to lock switch)
Press and hold Power and keep holding Volume -
Once the screen says booting recovery kernel release buttons
There's recovery.
You can also use Rom Manager to reboot into recovery if you did the process to link the recovery to it. If not, follow the above instructions depending on your ROM.

Ok I assume you're rooted since the mod is working, so use Titanium Backup (other apps may do this, not sure) and go to the menu and select Clean up the Dalvik Cache
This will do roughly the same as the dalvik wipe in recovery, it only removed what isn't needed anymore, not everything.
I'm not sure cache can be wiped from within android app wise, you could do it over ADB, but I don't know that should be done running android at the time you do it.

Ok, wife has a rooted and s off desire. It had 41 mb free internal space. Installed Google+ and Adobe air. Moved air to SD and moved Google+ with titanium and link2sd. Checked internal memory down to 25 mb. So I uninstalled both the apps. I now get a reading of 32 mb not 41 mb as it was before. Why?

Also done some research and found an app called A2SDGUI. looks like it can move dalvik to SD, is this a good idea and will it work on gingerbread?

Hi.
It won t harm ur phone. If you do so advice to wipe cache. Be in mind while rebooting takes much time coz rebuilding dalvik-cache.
Dunno a2sdgui could be a good idea depends ur sdcard speed. If not class10 (mean write speed 10mb/s). Dalvik is often used by system so if bad sdcard performance can reduce you rom performance.

I need some help with increasing my internal storage;
The problem is i am a newfag and kind of no interested in any super roms with awesome tweaks etc. I just want the same 2.3.3 android htc gave us in update with old sense etc but with like a 1gb of memory for apps so what i need to do?
I tried to find something and here is what i think i need to do:
1.Security off
2. Root --> here is a question. Does a root dissapears after i do a factor reset?
3. Now i need to install some kind of custom recovery - dont rly know how
4. Install some rom????
I was reading and trying to understand the difference beetwen the apps2sd data2sd, there were some disscussions that data2sd slows your phone etc. but then someone ofc spoke that's incorrect... There is a lot of contradictions in topics so it's hard for someone new to get to know the topic well.
So know in the end i will just write once again:
I want 2.3.3 htc android from update with everything the way it was but with bigger internal storage. Is that possible?

Ok guys
I did s-off,rooted and know here's the question
What's the difference beetween the partition ext 2,3 and 4? It's related with speed or stability? ^^Do I even have an option to choose which one will I use? I have class 2 card from samsung which came with desire
I also dont exacly know which option i need to choose in my 4.0.1.4 CWM at Partition SD Card. I want like 1gb for apps
Also special thanks to MatDrOiD for quick reply
Different formatting, speed, stability etc.
ClockWorkMod is poor regarding the partitions.
Id your need good recovery, get the RMD Recovery.
Usually roms let user decide what ext he needs, but fire some there are specifications to ext 4 or ext 3.
Read rom requirements.

The higher the number of ext partition the faster it is.
Would be nice to honor it by using thanks button.
So I followed the directions perfectly for installing DarkTremor's App2SD, installed my ROM, and when I started installing apps, they were installing to the phone memory instead of on the SD. Did I miss something?? When I mount the disk on my computer, and check properties, I find no partitions.
Did you partition the sdcard or just flash dta2sd?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I did the partitioning like it said in the instructions, chose 1024 MB for my partition and 32 MB for my swap file, then did the upgrade from ext 2 to ext 3...then I flashed the program, then installed the ROM, kernel and restarting and started installing apps, but they were installing to the internal mem, not the SD card. I couldn't see the partition in TIbackup either. I'm trying again now from scratch.
Go into terminal emulater and type
su then hit enter then type
a2sd reinstall hit enter again
This should move all your apps to the partition for more commands you can use
su

Factory reset (or unlock/relock bootloader). Since there are no separate partitions, it will delete everything iirc.
Iv installed the aokp rom after coming from arhd and power amp and double twist don't work which is a major bug
I used this super wipe zip when i flashed arhd and not sure if this is the issue as no1 else seems to have this problem
Power amp just opens then closes and runs a scan in the background which just loops and can't do anything so easiest thing for me is to start from scratch

Please don't double post.. There's an edit button.
As for your question:
How can you fix it if it isn't broken. Just ignore it. Its irrelevant.. This has absolutely nothing to do with being able or not able to flash ROMs. It's much more likely you've flashed the official ICS ROM, or bought it pre-installed which has locked your bootloader. Follow the unbrick guide for your model if that's the case.. However, if you're unfamiliar with ROMs, or even just this model of phone as it sounds, it's probably a good idea to post your current rom, and more details if this is the case before doing so.

your error has nothing to do with the ext partition. I think your issue has a simple fix download the sd formater app for windows (google it) format your sd card using the default settings (do a backup first) and put your card back in your phone after you have restored your backup. You should be good to go. The format that LG uses on the stock sd card is incompatible with CWM.

As has already been mentioned, the Nitro/SU640 etc doesn't use sd-ext for its dalvik cache. As it's not used, you are going to get an error because your recovery is trying to wipe a path that doesn't exist. There is no need for it to exist in the first place, so the error really isn't anything to be worried about.
You say you cannot change ROMs with the sd-ext error... what exactly does it tell you when you try to flash a different ROM without trying to wipe dalvik?

What things aren't working? Just about all the ROMs have things that aren't 100% working correctly, random reboots (no matter how infrequent) etc. Are you sure you aren't mistaking the already existing bugs in each ROM for an error related to wiping dalvik? Just trying to cover all possibilities because dalvik is, if I'm not mistaken, on the system partition and gets wiped when performing a system wipe.
I just ask because I never even wipe dalvik...
