WARNING!!!!!! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Today I learned the hard way of Sprint Early Termination Fees!!!. this was verified by several customer service representative. only at 2 days before my trial period I had problems with my bill and found out that ETF(Early Termination Fees) are NOT PRORATED the way we used to know. just after 8 months is when you start your prorated cycle at $340.00, then from the 9th to the 19th months goes $20.00 per month, then form the 20th to the 23th month go to $100.00, and the Last month to $0.00. I did not knew that. on AT&T after the first month it will go by $10.00 a month until goes to $0. WHAT A RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!!. I fought with 5 diferent representatives at the store and on the phone until finaly got a complete credit of my ETF!!!. WHAT A FIGHT!!!. I spended 7 years as a Tmobile customer before because this same problem with Sprint. almost leave for AT&T!. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!.
Has anyone had this bad experience???

nah. I read my contact before I signed it, so I knew what the etf situation was.
SGH-I747

You sign a contract, and you've got 14 days to evaluate the phone, the service, and READ THE CONTRACT. They don't charge the ETF until you've gone beyond that 14 days, right?
You expect them to live up to their end of the contract, why not just be thankful that they were convinced to give you a break instead of being pissed that they tried to enforce a contract you signed.

as I understand it PRORATED means that as the months go by your balance will go down with it. that's not the case with Sprint. you have to wait 7 month to go down. that to me is not PRORATED!!!. SCAM!!!

Gracias
Hello, because of the rules of XDA you should post in english, I'm a mexican user founder of a mexican android users community (mexdroid) you can ask there in spanish if you want.
The price of the Galaxy Nexus here with telcel is about $10,300.00 mexican pesos off contract, that is about $800 USD, you can get it cheaper in some service plan. I would recommend you to buy some unlocked GSM galaxy nexus at the US and activate it here in some plan or prepaid. I have seen some offers in the US for about 500USD or less for the galaxy nexus, that's much better that buy it here but you also need to consider guarantee in case of problems.
I'm not really sure about the verizon Gnex is unable to work in mexico, maybe with Iusacell, I will take a look at it.
Regards and Bienvenido!
UPDATE: a couple of members of mexdroid reported that it could actually work with Iusacell, you can try to contact them via twitter and ask. @IUSACELL

My HTC One X cant read my carrier SIM

Hello friends from xda.
I bought my HTC on Amazon:
Amazon.com: HTC One X S720e Cellphone - No Warranty - White
When I got it I toke it to my phone company (Claro Honduras, 1900 band) agency to cut my regular shape SIM into a Micro Sim shape, but it didnt works, (I noticed the phone still can see the SIM Toolkit options) but no network at all. Then I toke it to the competency company (Tigo Honduras, 900 band) and they cut a regular shape Sim too and it worked without problem. But I need to use my Claro company as a must. I went to three different agencys and Claro people couldnt help me. I have tried like 5 differente Claro Sims and any of them worked, I tried those Sims at other phones and they worked, the problem is only with my HTC One X.
Writed HTC and they asked me to do a factory reset, wich didnt solved the problem, then they asked me to send the phone to Bogota for check. The Amazon seller also says the phone have no problem.
Im so frustrated since i have this amazing phone and cant really use it and I cant find any way to solve it. Plz guys halp! =(
Thanks a lot in advance!

Some SIM cards have larger chips and are not suitable to be cut to Micro-SIM (older ones usually). When those larger chips are cut they break the connectors and the card will not work. Maybe that's what happened with your SIM card.
Only recent SIM cards that have smaller chips are suitable to be cut. Can you post a photo of your SIM cut so we can see if the chip has been cut as well?
It can also be the sim card tray that is faulty which mine was sent back to HTC who replaced it under warranty.
Well the SIM is not damaged as far as I know, because I have tried them in other phones and works normally, then try it on my HOX and "No Service"
Im attaching an image with the Claro (light blue with red, not working one) Sim and the Tigo (dark blue, working one) Sim. Both of them were cut from normal Sims and both of them works at other phones. I also tried another Claro Sim with a bigger golden contact shape and didnt worked neither. Also tried a not cutted Micro Sim (the ones that comes already with that shape) from an Iphone on Claro and didnt worked neither.
About the Sim Card Tray that sounds like something, but just gotta add that the Tigo Sim works perfectly with the Sim Card Tray as it is now. Also with the Claro Sim on I can see the features from the Claro company on the Sim Toolkit application.
Any more ideas guys? Plz :S
Thanks a lot.

We're just talking about this is a mostly a carrier issue. I've a lot of experience traveling and swapping sim cards in many android phones I had before (X10, Inspire, Infuse, GNote, SGS3), right now I own a HOX and I haven't had any issue with it regarding sim swapping so I guess this could be just the carrier is not allowing his phone to get registered into the network.
By the way if you go to Settings>Mobile Network>Network Operator and you try searching operators with Claro Chip installed what happens? Does it say something like: It is not possible to get registered to the network? If so then your phone is reading the chip but the problem is just carrier.
Or maybe your carrier is using a band that is not supported by the hox

Please try (with patience) sticking thin paper/plastic plates on the back of the sim card to thicken it. This problem occurred after 3-4 months use. Since I unlocked the bootloader HTC decline to repair for free. After raising a complain to the consumer council, they replaced the motherboard for me free of charge. But your case seem different since it s no warranty at the beginning? (But I think your local HTC repair center would still repair it .. with or without maybe $40-50 international repair charge ....?)
Regards,
Kenneth
Was your sim card like this:
SIM card 1
http://www.internationalstudent.com/images/simcard.jpg
Or
SIM card 2
http://www.satphone.com/media/catal...972d/i/r/iridium-satellite-phone-sim-card.jpg
If it your SIM card was like the first one befone cut then it was ehen it was cut that the chip was broken. Only when the SIM card is like the 2nd one it suitable to be cut.
Or else you can have a bad SIM tray or motherboard.

Hello.
We in Slovenia actually had same problem. I bought unlocked HOX in France but it didn't work with my carriers micro SIM (carrier Mobitel). But it worked with my friends SIM from other carriers (Simobil and Tusmobil). So I returned HOX to France seller and bought HOX from Simobil carrier (Mobitel wasn't selling them). My SIM from Mobitel couldn't be recognized in this new device. I started to read forums and all ppl with Mobitel SIM had same problem with unlocked HOXs.
I took it to HTC repair center but they had no idea what could be wrong. And that I should wait for OTA update that was comming in few days. In a week when OTA came everything was resolved.
And few days later my carrier Mobitel started selling HOX. It was actually problem in HOX software.
On forums in Slovenia I saw maybe 20 ppl with same exact problem.

[Q] Some questions about this model

Hello.
I’m thinkin about to buy this model but I have some doubts. Right now I’m a happy owner of a Nokia N95. It’s been with me for the last 3-4 years or so.
But right now I’m considering two or three phones to buy. This model and two more: The just came out Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II I415 and the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G T699.
I’m considering more the Captative Glide as option because of his price and availability. It’s older than the others and probably with worse hardware performance, but complete enough to me and it will be probably the cheapest option between those three models.
But some questions:
This phone is sold with android 2.3. I was thinking about to buy it but I’ve read to some people who had problems with the unlocking of the phone –as it’s sold unlocked- after updating its firmware or rooting it. Does anyone know something about this?
I would like to know what’s the latest official firmware for this phone and if it has any problems.
I was wondering if Samsung Service Center in my city would care about this phone made a brick because of problems when updating, even when this phone is not sold in my country (Spain) –but it works. This or any other problem supposed to be covered by warranty.
Lastly I know there are 2 versions of this phone. i927 and i927R sold in Canada. I’ve read that the main difference is the internal memory -8GB vs 4- and the carrier iq software. Are there any other differences?
Ah. And if you have any comments about where to buy this phone in good conditions –reliable seller, warranty, etc- let me know.
Thanks in advance for any answers. I’m very lost in this “world” right now as an owner of a 5yo phone. And sorry about my English.

Ok, i will answer what i know:
My phone locked again when i upgrade, some people say that if you upgrade without a sim, gets locked again.
The lastest oficial firmware is ICS 4.04
About the i927 and i92r, there is no major difference, but if you can, buy the i927 (from att) because a lot of people (like me) has freeze problem when flashing the CWM or something else (can be solved but dont know exactly why is the problem).
The warranty, i think is only in the country that you buy it.
I see that you are from Spain, so if you talk spanish i will say it in spanish too (is my language)

You're in Spain. You couldn't use a Stratosphere II if you wanted to -- Verizon doesn't exist there.
Relay 4G is significantly better in a number of ways. There appears to be something going on for it on GitHub, but they're down for maintenance atm. Still, it certainly won't be as mature as what we have here.

For some reason the phone tends to lose its unlock when switching between official versions, or wiping while on an official ROM -- it's trivial enough to get around, just have your unlock code handy.

There's several revisions of an ICS beta floating around. They generally have more issues than the custom ROMs based on AOSP and dman's work. (His CM10.1 is a few minor issues away from PERFECT.)

Warranty? What warranty? We're talking about a device that's only ever sold as carrier branded. Whatever warranty it had is only available through those carriers. (You'd have the same problem with the Relay 4G, FYI.) That said, the Glide is nigh impossible to brick. The bootloader and download mode are surprisingly tolerant.
Lastly I know there are 2 versions of this phone. i927 and i927R sold in Canada. I’ve read that the main difference is the internal memory -8GB vs 4- and the carrier iq software. Are there any other differences?

Literally the only difference is branding. They both have the same 8GB NAND that houses bootloader, recovery, kernel, system, data, the whole nine yards, with a 4GB partition dedicated to the "internal SD".

Well that's quite a lot of information for me to think about. I thought stratosphere would work in my country. I see in its specifications that it works under "GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900" and "HSDPA 2100 " and in spain the requirements are GSM 900, GSM 1800 and UMTS 2100 for 3g capabilities. In relation with the other phones i just thought that they would work better as they have newer processors and gpu's
I take note about all the stuff that you said. I'm new in this and i've just met with a lot of new technical terms in your comment. Well just one sidenote. I don't really know how difficult and costly is to get a unlock code for this phone. I guess it is not expensive, and I've read about some sim unlock projects for some android. I dont know if this would work with this one. For what you said one code would work as many times as you need what is something i didn't know.
Just one more thing. Would you guys say that as owners of this phone you experiment many issues due to the lack of development and options?
By the way any recomendations about where to buy it ?
Once again thank you for your colaboration

I stand corrected, apparently the Strat2 has a GSM radio. I've never dealt with that -- I'd doublecheck to make sure you don't have to have VZW service to set it up.

You should buy the phone already unlocked, and ask the seller to include the code with the phone before you buy/bid. Just basic SOP if you're buying a phone to use it on a different carrier or in a different country.

That was the case, but between gleaning crucial bits out of the ICS betas and connected source release, and dman's work porting the AOSP family, that has changed. We're riding rather high and pretty now

I got mine on eBay. Make sure it's a seller with some history on the site. If he doesn't know what an unlock code is, do not buy.
I found this thread a bit late otherwise I won't have Stratosphere here in Bulgaria and wondering if it can be unlocked someday as it seems for now nobody succeed but hopefully someday...
Any advice on how can I set it up? I am at this point that probably it needs to have one month prepaid service from Verizon together with global plan just to have network service to set it up before android load and it can be continued with some rooting or etc.
I am still optimist that at near few weeks someone will know resolution on this how it can work with other network provider.
Will appreciate any information on how can I handle it!
Alexander
Warranty will be a problem. Considering this is a North American phone, you won't be covered by warranty, unless you have someone state side willing to ship the phone back to you.
You can send it in from Spain and have it go back to a US resident. Whoever that is can ship it back to you. Although shipping will get very expensive.
I was considering the Relay as well, but it's a much more expensive device because it's newer. The Glide is almost the same physically, sans the trackpad.

Cannot unlock my AT&T G8... "thin" databases for the G8?

so i got a Lg g8 off ebay and it's clean but i've tried so many ebay unlocks from $0.99 to $39 "premium databases" etc. , but all of them, after waiting 3-4 days cannot unlock my phone and some have said that the databases are very thin for the lg g8.
why is this..? does this mean i can never unlock my phone or databases will expand as time goes on? should i get rid of it now or keep waiting?
I was in the same situation with a T-Mobile version, I messaged T-Mobile themselves from Facebook and they suggested getting a prepaid SIM card with 100 dollars and be in the US and I'm UK based.
I had to sell it because no one could unlock it.

Yeah I bought it unlocked because it was meant to be straightforward to unlock as per research. But it wasn't activated via T-Mobile so the IMEI wasn't on their records so they wouldn't unlock for me.
Seller was willing to unlock for me but I had to send it back to him but it was a hassle as there was no guarantee.
