JoyOS apps on CM7 or stock ROMs - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

After trying JoyOS ROM I really liked the camera and notes applications. When I then moved on to try both CM7 and stock-based ROMs I wondered if I could use the JoyOS camera and notes applications on them. I found that I could install them without any trouble, simply by extracting the appropriate APK (listed below) and in a file manager, clicking on them and choosing "Install".
The interface of the camera application is very clean and provides a lot of space for the preview image. Unfortunately the settings causes a FC when in camera mode but strangely it seems to work OK when in video mode. Go figure!
What I like about the Notes application is that for each note you can quickly switch between a standard note or a checklist. So you can use one application for both purposes. Also included are two (2) widgets.
I'd love to know how to get the Clock application working because unlike the stock Samsung clock application it offers a stopwatch, timer and world clock. Unfortunately the cities' labels in the world clock are in Chinese but the timer and stopwatch functions look good and work well. At the moment I'm using a combined stopwatch and timer app but honestly, I prefer the JoyOS one.

might not work, so backup first, but copy the clock app into system/app set permissions to r-w-r--r-- delete the previous clock if you havent, then reboot. you can move the original clock to sd card and if not work, then just put in system app and set permissions :highfive:

Must have apps?

Thanks!

Hi this is my first android as well (got mine yesterday)
I must admit i havn't really installed that many apps yet.. but i can recommend the "google goggles" and "asphalt 5"
-TB-
I would also like to know.
Performance increasing apps?
Useful (swiss army knife) apps?
Amazing recreational must haves?
Thanks.
AutoKiller - memory managment
Barcode Sanner - for getting links to apps from the internet
If using mytracks:
Linda file manager - to import tracks
My track editor
A nice widget is smooth calendar if you have a lot of appointments.
Greetings from Austria
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Shazam is awsome
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I love the SMS popup program
Australian phone - Found some of the best ones were ES Task Manager, Handcent for SMS/MMS and the ability to change tones via, Camera 360 for an app which enhances everything you can do with the camera, SMS backup to backup to Gmail account and Wheres my Droid which allows you to send a message to the phone when it is on silent which takes the silencer off and triggers the ringtone, enabling you to find it if you have misplaced it. Also another handy one is 3G watchdog which keeps an eye on your data usage.
I like:
AutoKiller (needs root)
Launcherpro
Homeswitcher
Appremover
Appsinstaller
MyBackup Pro
Fancywidget
Extended Controls
LeshaK's update.zip found here
I'm going to have to second launcherpro, really great app.
I can't find fancywidget in the market, is it under a new name maybe?
Also, while shazam is really nice and very accurate for commercial radio, is there another app that's aimed at more obscure/australian music music (I listen to Triple J if that helps)?
Finally can someone recommend a good news widget for australia.

I have also noticed this, although some songs arent registered in the shazam database

HTC complaned and it got pulled off the market i think. You will have to find an alternate source.
Since its installed on my phone can i extract the apk? I would be happy to upload somewhere.

What's the BEST gallery app?

Is there anything better then the default galler in SGS?
I'm looking for the best application to view my images.
JustPictures is very good. In the settings you can get it to show the images at their full resolution and quality, something the default app can't do.

Nice app!. I don't think it can't replace gallery3d as it's more complex and probably less user friendly, but is good to have it as a complement

Gallery3D doesn't work on froyo 2.2.
I am using the one that the SGS Tools provide under Upgrade stock apps.
I believe it comes from the HTC Desire in this thread:

there is currently a problem with thumbnails not showing in the correct aspect ratio. Hopefully it will be solved soon.

I've removed the system app with titanium backup.
i've installed the app from the market.
It seems exactly the same as I had with my SGS when I bought it.
The only difference is that the animations are smoother/slower.
Also, I didn't understand if this app is the same from the link above (XDA forum).
Can it view large images? Why does it take forever to render images from picasa when I use fast wifi connection? <- same behaviour as the original app
The best is Picture viewer free in market

So, the problem u r having is that JP is showing even the album cover thumbnails. Is that right?
Go to Add Account->Local->Root path
Type the desired media folder you want to b displayed. Don't put in the folder containing album cover. Now when this is done u can delete the original Local folder.
Hope it solves ur problem.

6.Google Play Movies & TV
7.Bitcasa
8.Backup -Titanium will do that for you instead [MUST]
9.Riptide
10.Polaris Office - Replace it with Office Suite or any other app [NOT A MUST]
11.Music - Replace it with Winamp, Poweramp or any other music player [MUST]
12.File Manager - Replace it with Total Commander, Root Explorer, etc. [MUST]
13.Movie Studio
14.Sound Recorder - Better don't uninstall it, might be useful sometimes
15.Clock - Replace it with another clock widget [MUST]
16.Gallery - Replace it with QuickPic or another application [MUST]
17.Weather - Replace it with another widget [NOT A MUST]
18.Me Widget
19.Huawei Home - NOT RECOMMENDED but you can replace it with another Home Launcher [MUST]
20.FM Radio
21.Power Manager - NOT RECOMMENDED
22.App Installer - You'll have Total Commander or Root Explorer to do that for you [install apps] [MUST]
23.Street View
24.Calculator
25.Permission Manager - NOT RECOMMENDED
26.Downloads
27.Notes
28.Help Center - NOT RECOMMENDED
MUST = It means that you MUST replace the removed system app with another app if you want that function to work properly. For example if you delete Gallery you will not be able to view photos unless you install another app to perform that function for you, so that's a MUST.
NOT A MUST = It means that a system app can be removed without installing another one to replace it, for example you can remove Polaris Office without installing Office Suite, let's say, but you can install another app if you want to open files that need that kind of app to perform that function, the same you can do with Calculator, there is no need for that app, only if you want it there,so that's NOT A MUST

It's always a good idea to keep at least two Home Launchers, just in case, the stock one and some other one you like best. That doesn't mean that you cannot uninstall the stock one completely, you can do it if you want, I just said that don;t uninstall the stock one unless you have another one. If it bothers you, uninstall it. No harm done. But be sure to have another Launcher.

Why can't Power manager be removed? If stock android has it's own methods, and you can use a app like greenify, for a coarser battery management (the system should still run the soc cores in the right management, per Governor setting). Is power manager somehow too integrated in the system, hardware? Or has no one tried?

Google Stock Dialer/Contacts apks

Here's the stock google dialer and contacts app I pulled from my nexus 6 when i had it. It's not the motorola framework dialer and contacts, but pure google stock. They are in separate folders. I've also have a few that I've pulled from the web as well. I hate the ugly skin that lg uses, and miss the true material look from Google.
You HAVE to be rooted for these to even remotely work. Use root explorer or whatever app you use, mount rw and install as system apk (go to system>priv-app). Folder will need rwxr-xr-x permissions. Give app r-r-rw permissions. So far, contacts are working and I've gotten the google in-call ui to work by placing the apk in the lg in-call ui after renaming the original lg-ui. Can't get the dialer to install. LG skin is deeply rooted in thier framework, so it's kind of a pain. I'll keep digging into this to make some progress. In the mean time, if anyone else wants to chip in and help out, please do so.
In the link to my drive folder there will be 4 files. One of them is a flashable zip named GoogleContactsDialer (credits to whoever put this zip together. Wasn't me). Another should be the dialer in non flashable zip, and the other files are the respective standalone apks. I would suggest flashing the flashable zip, as it has the libs folder included.

**UPDATE**
Ok everyone, I have a quick second to give an update (getting up at 0430 is killing me right now lol) on things in reference to the dialer. Make sure you are using the flashable zip. The separate apks are ok, but the zip makes things easier.
Basically most hassle free method I have used to get it to be the primary dialer and contacts app is by using TB to freeze these 2 LG Dialer and Contact applications that are listed below.
*Call 4.60.79.10
*Contacts 4.56.18
I'm using KLWP and Nova for most of my homescreens. I'm linking the Google dialer apk to whatever phone KLWP icon using Nova Activities>Google Dialer>Phone(com.android.dialer.DialtactsActivity; make sure you select this one). For those that use Zooper, the same method would apply.
In reference to getting the dialer icon to show up in the app drawer on its own, I'm still working on that.

Sorry guys that I've been MIA. Work and personal life have been really busy. I didn't remove the LG apk but just froze them with TB. So far the LG Contacts app doesn't override which is good, and I've set Google Contacts as my default. I'm trying True Caller but honestly don't like it. Like you said, it is working - mostly. I no longer see the dreaded LG dialer (yippee!) but a couple of minor anomalies remain.
On an incoming call I do not get a full scree caller id and swipe to answer as I did on the N4 device;
Like you, I had to use Nova to create the desktop icon (which is no big deal I suppose);
When I bring up the dialer I see a "Speed Dial" tab but I don't see all my favorites (starred contacts). I tried clearing cache and data for the dialer but is not showing me the same starred contacts as the Contacts app;
Other than the above it seems to work quite well.
[ EDIT ] It seems that there is a difference between the contacts storage that LG maintains and what Google Contacts/Dialer maintains. I cleared data and cache for both, the LG Dialer and the LG Contacts app - note that in my case they were both frozen so I had to use ROM Toolbox to do this - and had the system re-sync contacts with Google. All of the sudden ALL my favorites show up as expected and, incoming caller Id is now displaying as it did on the old Nexus 4. Yippee! Apparently some minor issues can be corrected by reinitializing the contacts database on the phone.

Did you start out with a clean, well working system or could it have remnants of previous attempts to install a dialer? Most of my troubles came from the fact that I missed to clean somethng up from a previous attempt.
Essentially, I did not do much different from the OP. Starting with a clean system (I backup frequently with TWRP when I experiment with new things!) I flashed the zip file, rebooted, created the desktop icon for phone, froze the 2 LG modules with TiBu. I also copied the Google Dialer apk to the LGInCallUI folder in priv-app and renamed (but not deleted) the LG version which did not seem to make any difference to usage (I was hoping for a full screen caller Id).
As noted above, it seems to be working quite nicely with the 3 1 caveats I listed.

By 'launcher' you mean a menu-app that starts selected apps from within the default leanback launcher (the 'extra step') or a total replacement of the default launcher?
What i mean is this:

Ah, integrate non compatible (sideloaded) android TV apps in the default launcher, so you can start them right from the home screen. That's useful!
Can you upload that app/ apk so we can play around with it.
Cheers
Well ok but theres not much to test.
You could take a look at the solution I came up with as well.

App cloner at least when I tried it disables mouse support not sure if the newer versions fixed that. The app from nvidia zone doesn't work all the time.. This guy optimized TV apps work 100%

Nice one!
What about category? APP or GAME... so it will be placed in the proper row...
Yep i know, some features like banner support and category selection are still missing.
Love the concept of the app! Like others have mentioned, would be nice for full banner support. For the time being, I just used APK2TV to add the proper banner. Thanks for your hard work!
Added banner support, please test!
Hi, it seems to have some issues with "_" in package name...
With Choplifter HD the generated app tries to launch "com.inxile.choplifterhd" instead of "com.inxile.Choplifter_HD"
The banner support works fine...
Thanks for your effort
Thx, should be fixed.
Seems that package names are case sensitive.... Choplifter HD still does not launch... "com.inxile.choplifter_hd" instead of "com.inxile.Choplifter_HD"
Youre right, ive fixed it.
It works fine now... thank you
Thanks a lot for the app.
Very useful.
