CM10 on Rogers i747M? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I know a CM10 beta was released for the AT&T GS III but I have a Rogers GS III which is a i747M just like the AT&T one. Is it possible to install the CM10 beta on my phone? If so, will I need to install a different version of CWM on my phone?
I used this guide to root my phone and put CWM on it: http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747/

Yes it will work fine on your Rogers phone. Rogers and at&t are the same phone.

I installed CM9 on my Rogers S3 yesterday, so I doubt CM10 won't work.
Apparently there's no LTE for Rogers on CM10 yet (I couldn't get it to work on CM9 either) and the WiFi issue is unresolvable yet because you can't access the service mode menu so I switched back, sadly.

I'm on Rogers too, but I've been a little hesitant to flash to CM10 just yet. It appears there's a problem with LTE functionality -- no way to enable/force it on, currently.

So do I have to flash a special version of clockwork recovery? If so, which?

CWM 5.8.4.7 worked for me. I found that CM10 really drained the battery quickly plus no LTE support as mentioned so I switched back.

Status 7
I'm using a Rogers S3 I747M and I keep getting Status 7 messages with CM10, MIUI etc
I'm able to flash most of the other ROMs without any problems...(as long as they specify I747M , Rogers , Bell etc )
I'm currently running the JellyBean milestone 3 leak (and LTE works fine). The only problem I have is with the T-Mobile hotspot app (it won't allow me to enable HotSpot for some reason...)

Which recovery are you using? I found that I tried using 5.x.x.x CWM (sorry i cant remember) and it gave me that error, so i used another 5.x.x.x a newer later # and that flashed it...but gave me a boot loop!! fed up, i then used restored and flashed TWRP recovery, that worked like a charm!

The latest builds of CM10 won't flash properly with CWM 5; you need CWM 6 for that.

Speak for yourself. All builds of CM10 and AOKP flash perfectly fine with 5.8.4.7 CWM here.

yes, the AT&T CM10 nightly builds should be compatible with all i747, it works with my telus one.
And as for which CWM, just instsall the most updated one, 6.0.1.2, as some of the older versions of CWM wont work properly with newer ROMS such as CM10

So with the recent "stable" release. Us Rogers users should be able flash and go no other problems? excuse my ignorance i'm a bit new at this...

Hey I'm the OP and I can clarify the developments since I made this thread.
What you need to know:
1) The Rogers Galaxy SIII model number is "SAMSUNG-SGS-I747". You can check this by going on your phone to Settings -> About Phone -> Model number. Commonly, it is just called the I747 variant.
In the US, the version for the AT&T carrier is also the exact same phone (same hardware), ie it is also the i747.
Because the US phone market is more popular (I guess) our device (the i747) is usually referred to as the "AT&T variant".
2) This mean that any ROM developments/tutorials/guides that work for the AT&T phone will work for your phone. Actually, the i747 variant of the Galaxy SIII is also used for Bell and Telus (as listed in the name of this subforum).
Another thing is that manufacturers give different hardware revisions different names to be used internally (I believe). The i747 name is "d2att" so this is just another synonym for your phone.
3) Knowing all this, you just need to find a ROM built for your device (d2att). There are plenty in the "Original Android Development" section of this subforum.
I would recommend trying Cyanogenmod Nightly until you become accustomed to flashing, ROMs, etc.
If you were to go on cyanogenmod's download site (http://get.cm/) on the left you will see a list of all supported devices. If you hover over "d2att" you'll see it reveals it's common name, the AT&T GS III. There you can download nightlies, which means that every day a new version with new changes to this ROM have been made available for download.
4) To actually install a rom, I would reccomend looking for a quick intro guide to flashing. First thing you'll have to do though is flash custom recovery on your phone. Basically, you want to put Clockwork Recovery Mod on your phone so you can easily install ROMs on your phone.
If you haven't already, you'll have to root and install clockwork. Find a guide to do it (if you have trouble let me know or start a thread).
If you have any other questions just PM me and I can help you since I have the same phone as you.

error when flashing ROM downloaded from ROM Manager
Just a heads up, as this may affect other Rogers users.
After downloading any cyanogenmod 10 nightly using ROM Manager Premium, I was getting an error when attempting to flash the ROM.
For some as of yet unknown reason, even though the recovery was configured for the d2att model, it was downloading the ROM for the d2mtr model. I have brought this to the attention of @Clockworkmod on Twitter, and provided logs and build.prop, but the underlying cause is still unknown.
The device was correctly identified as a "d2att" within the build.prop, and the correct recovery was selected and applied from within ROM Manger. I also attempted manually flashing both the standard and touch recoveries, with no difference in behaviour. Same after a full wipe of ROM Manager data & a re-installation.
The solution was to manually flash the d2att CloclworkMod recovery from the ROM Manger site, and then manually specifying the recovery as follows:
Menu --> Manual Flash Override --> ClockworkMod 5.X.X.X+
Reboot and ROMs now download as required.

[Jailbreak]Take Note Verizon - Root/Jailbreak/Recovery

Update: this will not work on the recent firmware updates.
Hey, you can't jailbreak an Android.. yeah, i know, but "Jailbreak" is a protected act under the USA DMCA Exemption of 2012 and "Unlocking" is illegal without carrier permission. There will be no misunderstandings here.
WARNING:
This is not a normal bootloader unlock. This is even higher. It's an IROM unlock. This device went from the most secure Galaxy Note 10.1 to the least secure. After performing the technique in this thread your device will allow you to flash a Justin Beiber MP3 over your bootloaders (that means a hard brick). BE VERY CAREFUL and never flash with Odin or Heimdall unless you're absolutely sure it is intended for a SCH-I925. Odin or Heimdall can easily brick your device.
Introduction
CASUAL will guide you through the process of unlocking your bootloader using exploits developed by Lee Harrison. It works on Windows, Linux, and Mac. Put your device into “Developer Mode>USB Debugging”. Click the do it button. Any problems will be addressed with updates. See the About CASUAL section below.
Overview
You are expected to be STOCK.... Stock anything, but stock. This will install a stock kernel and that may affect non-stock roms. You will need to download and execute the CASUAL application below. Make sure you're connected to the internet. Then click the Do It! button. You need Java. Do you have Java?.
Windows 32/64 Users: CASUAL will put your device into Download Mode. It will automatically flash everything. If drivers are required, jrloper's CADI (CASUAL Automated Driver installer) will handle it. Make sure you're connected to the internet.
Linux 32/64/raspberry pi Users There may be a permission escalation in order to install heimdall, either way sit back and relax. CASUAL automates the entire process.
Please run the following in a terminal first:
Mac Users: Mac works easierr than any other system at the time of this release on 32bit systems. Please report problems.
Download
Take Note Verizon CASUAL(R478b) CASUAL is used to automate the process. The exploit was developed by Elite Recognized Developer Ralekdev and packaged by AdamOutler. To run CASUAL you need Java. Do you have Java?
Note: Please don't mirror this file. Link to this thread for download. d-h.st is a fast server. If I find people mirroring old versions of CASUAL, i will throw the killswitch and their browser will bring them back here to download the new one so they end up downloading it twice, otherwise I have to support multiple versions.
Videos
Demonstration on Linux. It is roughlty the same on Windows and Mac, but if anyone wants to make a video I will put it here.
About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform ADB Scripting, Univeral Android Loader. CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language. CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits. CASUAL is an Open Format, meaning, you can find out as much as you need to about how it works because they're easily taken apart and modified with WinZip. CASUAL is also secure. At any time, if a serious problem is detected with any script, the kill-switch will be flipped and you will be brought to a support page (most likely here) so you can download the latest version. Otherwise for minor corrections, new CASUAL scripts can be deployed remotely.
Here's a picture of CASUAL and a Verizon GNote10.1 running Team Win Recovery

CASUAL will let you root, but it won't install files that will damage your device. Even if it would, it's a bad idea. This is an IROM unlock, intended for Verizon devices only. IROM unlock means you can flash anything you want including files that destory your device.
You don't need this if you can flash custom kernels and ROMs. We have taken down all defenses here. If the U.S. Cellular version is locked down and you cant flash kernels/ROMs without it, I can release a new, updated version.

Thanks Sir. The U.S. Cellular version is locked down like the Verizon version as far as I can tell. Since the US Carriers decided to do the same crap with the bootloaders. I have root using framaroot but I'm unable to install a recovery or flash a kernel.

Adam,
So here is what I am seeing, see the pictures attached
Alright guys. I'm uploading two new packages....
The first one is the latest copy of the Take Note Verizon jailbreak. It includes a modified Recovery by Dees_Troy. Our Note 10.1's are different than the other ones.
Differences: The partition structure is totally different. The kernels are totally different. This means you will soft-brick your device by flashing anything in these forums involving a recovery or a kernel other than this one. That being said..... It may be a good idea to get a separate forum. If you are interested, please start a *NEW THREAD* in General forums listing all the i925 specific threads which could be moved.
Alright. For the second part, I'm uploading a Rooted back-to-stock which I packaged from my own device before unlocking it and flashing stuff. Here's the technique used. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082951 . This file is large so it will be a while before it's uploaded. The files included are basically everything needed to safely get back from a custom ROM and be rooted stock again.
Files included: boot.img, hidden.img, modem.bin, param.bin, recovery.img, system.img
We don't have a way to remove the modified system status currently. There is no completely back to stock.

no. The hardware is different. The bootloaders are similar. You need a different kernel
As a note: Never flash an N8010 bootloader. this is a SPECIAL bootloader based on the N8010 bootloader. Just pretend it has nothing to do with N8010. For all practical purposes, this is an I925 bootloader we crafted out of an N8010 because we didn't have a i925 to work with.
Ok thanks, mostly just curious as i own the N8013 but considered the verizon version or selling and getting the unlocked international.
Thanks a ton Adam! Worked perfectly.
So if I have this correctly, we will be running stock until we get a dev to start working on our variant? I would assume that the other roms wouldn't install correctly with the partitions being different correct?

What confuses me is that people seem to be returning back to stock... and in the first line of the instructions of this ROM I find:

I'm super happy that I finally find a ROM for this tablet, but why now a few day's after the first post of this great news... why I'm the first posting here?? Nobody else jumping out of their seats in joy??
Also, I'm curious... does the CM include phone capabilities? I'm in Iceland and the Icelandic version of this tablet is basically just a very large phone, I'm hoping this ROM will get me there since now I cant even use the mobile networks at all because I have no Verizon SIM and even if I did - it would be ridiculously expensive

So I was about to install CWM when I got into trouble connecting detecting the tablet with both heimdall and odin. Adb detects the device... perhaps a driver issue because of ADB... perhaps it doesnt matter
I booted into recovery only to find the TWRP that I haven't used yet, it came when I installed adams jailbreak. Im not familiar with TWRP but it looks pretty good. Do I need to install CWM or is TWRP good enough??
*edit: No problem connecting to ODIN on a different computer, so now I can install CWM if needed.
Could you let me know if I can use the TWRP recovery instead of the CWM?
Also, did you mean that this ROM is locked to Verizon mobile network?

I believe this rom is specifically for the verizon version of the n8020. There is a port for the international version.

I also believe that this rom is specifically for the verizon version of the n8020 (the sch-i925). I have the Verizon SCH-i925 Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which is a LTE version. So this rom should fit pretty well I dont believe I can use the n8020 ROM's because of some different partitions from what I have read.
Can I install this rom with TWRP recovery or is CWM a prerequisite?
I didn't quite understand your reply, even if the Rom is designed specifically for this tablet, that does not mean it is still locked to the network provider. Is it still locked?
Thanks again, cant wait to try it

cwm is just recommended for official cm builds but twrp should work. and no its not locked onto verizon it is just designed for it. moving it to another carrier would require slight modification

So the install went great - No problems with TWRP, ROM or Gapps... smooth sailing!
The only changes to the tablet prior to this install was following Adams guide on how to unlock the bootloader. I also had not installed any updates from Verizon.
The ROM I installed was the cm-10.2-20130904-NIGHTLY-i925.
I also didn't install CWM, the TWRP that i got from unlocking the bootloader worked just fine.
Here is the bug list:
The Bug List:
1. GPS is working just fine.
2. I haven't tried the BT voice search.
3. 5ghz WIFI not working - I also needed to reboot to get 2.4ghz working again
4. No graphical issues yet, I test played raging thunder racing game and no problems there at least.
Other Bugs:
Camera:
No camera app found. I installed Nexus camera from market but it gave an error: "Can't connect to the camera". Also, my flashlight app can not use the camera flash.
I noticed that in folder /root/sys/class/camera/ there is only two documents "front" and "rear" which are both empty 0.00B files. Was looking for the cause, perhaps this helps?
Mobile network *Edit: Not a problem anymore:
In order to search for networks, the APN needs to be configured first! I am using my normal phone Icelandic SIM now and can use 3G in here in Iceland, send texts and after downloading a dialer I can now make phone calls also
Besides that, the OS is working great... 4.3 is pretty cool Its a real bust that the camera isn't working, I hope that gets fixed since its the only downside of this upgrade.
I'll keep a watch on this forum, so let me know if I can send you any info about my install. I'll also keep an eye on the upgrades and report if my problems get solved
Thanks for this ROM

Would I then perhaps be better set with a camera by taking an older rom, 1st of September for example?

Good question, I'm glad I downloaded all of them, I suspected they might only have space for 5 there! Just wait a second, I'll google this for you.
Sorry for the wait, it was only a minute though... but I found this for you:
http://goo.im/devs/cm/i925/nightly
I guess I didn't need to download all of them after all. By the way, September 2 worked better than September 1 so Im using that now.
Im going to check the 8th of sept ROM tonight... perhaps its all fixed there, will report
I've got the latest 9/9 nightly flashed on my i925 and don't see an option to add APN's nor make calls.
Can I just download any Dialer from the market and calling will work?
My intention is to test it with the AT&T $35 month prepaid plan, but I hear already that supposedly Medianet Internet doesn't work.
If that doesn't pan out, I'm going to be trying a Staight Talk AT&T sim.
*EDIT* I downloaded Dialer One and that seems to work
@Snarlster, how did you edit the APN for data?
TBH I think so far the features of stock are more rich

You need to create an APN in "Access Point Names". (press + sign at top right)
You should only needed to set the Name (You create name) + APN (supplied by provider), here in Iceland they provide this information on their webpage.. can be fine to add more settings but this is the minimum (at least here).
*remember to save, I missed it at least the first time but you got to press the 3 dots in top right and press save.
After that, search for networks, if error then restart and search for networks again.

Good luck with that, I just threw my work phone's SIM card in the tablet, dont use the phone that much so it was perfect, now I have a work tablet instead of a work phone... but I can receive and make phonecalls and texts, I'll just have to find that blootooth earpiece I have somewhere and that should be perfect

If you do not have or have forgot your password, you can only factory reset your phone to remove encryption.
[SIZE=+1]Q4: Will rooting affect my battery life?[/SIZE]
No simply rooting the phone should not hamper battery life.
[SIZE=+1]Q5: What is the best ROM?[/SIZE]
There is no best ROM for all users, depends on personal needs and preferences. best to pick a few which look like they meet your needs, and try them out..
[SIZE=+1]Q6: How do I return to stock?[/SIZE]
You can download the stock rom and return to stock using updated ODIN / http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2465764
[SIZE=+1]Q7: Can I use my SGN3 on other networks?[/SIZE]
At this time you can request a sim unlock from T-Mobile and use on networks with a sim that have same network towers.
[SIZE=+1]Q8: Can I flash a new recovery without rebooting my GNOTE 3?[/SIZE]
Yes. Place the recovery.img on your sdcard root. Open a terminal emulator and type "su flash_image recovery /sdcard/xxx.img". (Note: The x's are the name of the recovery as some may hold a different name. If not on the sdcard root folder, specify the folder /sdcard/xxx/xxx.img!)

[SIZE=+1]Q13: What is a "logcat" and how do I create one? [/SIZE]
For setting up ADB see What is ADB (above) logcat allows us to log what the OS is doing, and possibly offer information if things are not working. its quite simple to create but may be difficult for most to understand. This is a tool a Developer may ask for in detecting issues your device may be encountering.
To use logcat
Code:
adb shell
logcat
To logcat to a certain file do
Code:
adb shell
logcat -d > /sdcard/whatevertexfileyoulike.txt
For a full explanation follow the link in What is ADB
[SIZE=+1]Q14: What is KNOX, and how does it affect me?[/SIZE]

[SIZE=+1]Q15: I have gps issues. Why can't I lock onto GPS?[/SIZE]
Some roms have "time" issues with getting a gps lock. This is a known issue with all custom Roms.
[SIZE=+1]Q16: How do I get the best out of my Rom?[/SIZE]
Depending on what Rom you choose. Once you go to the "THEME" sections there are many more mods for your selected rom. Always try different Roms to fit your liking.
[SIZE=+1]Q17: Titanium Backup ask if I would like to restore my original ID Code after I flash roms, what should I do.?[/SIZE]
Do to the mass amount of custom roms, some internel phone setting get changed by default. You should always restore ID codes and native handset information when possible.
[SIZE=+1]Q18: How loud is too loud?[/SIZE]
That realistically is up to you. Rule of thumb, if your sounds is distorted, even the least bit, then lower the settings. Distortion is a warning sign, and prolonged use can damage your hardware.
[SIZE=+1]Q19: I have about 4gb of data missing from internal storage I cannot find. Where is it?[/SIZE]
Recovery uses a large amount of data for backups. TWRP saves by default, backups to the /sdcard/twrp or /sdcard/0/twrp directory. Make sure you delete old or unused backups.
[SIZE=+1]Q20: I need to return my rooted phone for a replacement. Does returning to stock work?[/SIZE]
Yes. Follow the instructions on the forum for unrooting and flash the Odin stock file. If you flash an earlier version, make sure to accept updates to get your phone back to factory. Knox 0x1 will affect rather your warranty will be honored
[SIZE=+1]Q21: What is so different about the Galaxy Note 3 that should get me to upgrade from the Note 2?[/SIZE]
Other then the hardware and screen upgrades, you can read the the 45+ Ultra-Advanced Features of the Note 3 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441935 Thread by Ipsuvedi
[SIZE=+1]Q22: While restoring using Titanium Backup, I get constant FC's. How do I fix this?[/SIZE]
The TB Team is working on a fix for the SELinux links in the new system. For the time being, everytime you restore apps using TB you will need to run TB Restore Fixer found here
[SIZE=+1]Q23: Does restoring in recovery break my phone? I fear the "brickloops"!?[/SIZE]
Not with TWRP version 2.6.3.5 <<CLICK - problems existed with earlier versions but basic restores (boot, system, data) are now working as they should. Thanks to dwitherell for the Q&A

Might be worth adding in some info on the initial recovery issues with restores, resolutions if you suffered them, and versions that no longer have those issues (or at least not to the same extent)
Nice FAQ.
I knew the answer to every question but one, so hey, I learned something. Namely, I had no idea that the "flash_image" util was so prevalent. I assumed it was a touchwiz-only thing, but I just checked and it's also present on my CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM as well. Doing a "flash_image recovery /sdcard/twrp_foo.img" is certainly easier than having to remember the correct partition to manually 'dd' to (though still not as easy as just using GooManager).
One other Q for the FAQ:
Q: Is it too big?
A: No.
Does it perfectly work with AT&T's network? (including LTE)
Yes!

It's the annoying space-wasting notification that TouchWhiz shows when you have NFC enabled. Stock Android doesn't do that.

New to this website(not flashing), I just wanted to make sure I was on track, ive had this sprint g2 for a few days now and while trying to flash a couple of 4.4.4 roms I got stuck on boot screen as well as a bootloop but managed to always get it back. Recently, I flashed the Cloudy G3 2.0 rom and so far is the only one I got to load. Im fine with using stock android but my main concern is getting a service to work(have yet to get another sim so cant test right now, would rather KNOW it would work once I buy it). I see you recommend using Cloudy G3 and I wanted to know which version was best, right now I just have the 2.0 rom installed with no data with instead of saying Sprint it doesn't detect the sim and says roaming indicator off. I would like to just be able to use T-Mobile or straight talk for talk, txt, and web(not much web, Comcast business class wifi ). Am I at least half-way there b/c every post I read about unlocking is helpful and all but requires stock rom or flashing another and I just wanted to stick with cloudy and get it up and running, just didn't know if I was on the right track, any advice?
I have two questions:
1) It unlocks CDMA, GSM or both?
2) Does it work with carriers outside US?
Thanks in advance.

1) CloudyFa says its for GSM.
2) Yes, it does work very well with carriers outside US. Myself used it at various countries outside US.
Thanks.
I'm confused...... either this doesn't work or no one here on the Sprint variant cares to sim unlock their device, or is this a repost in which someone else posted how to unlock and I just must have missed it? I only ask because no comments, thank you's...which I understand that part since most people on xda are unfortunately ungrateful in terms of having enough respect to thank the individual who helped them, or took time out of their lives to make something and share it.... but no confirmations that it does indeed work..... guess I'll just have to go ahead and try it out then.
so does this work? i have a sprint g2 that i just got. I have to fix the busted screen then i want to unlock it for tmobile. thanks!
I'll let you know in about 15 mins. What your screen is cracked? I thought my phone was broken because the screen was all black and would not turn on and I read every thread and no one seemed to know how to fix. Only solution I found was to send it in. I did this a while back on my Sprint G2, it works on T-Mobile. I switched to T-Mobile on the 15th. Only GSM though, which is still 2x faster than Sprint's 3G at least for me.
So go ahead and enjoy!
This is a repost, there is already an unlock thread. Same info is on CloudyROM FAQ as well.

i called sprint and i got the msl code (unlock code) so i don't think i'll have to do this lol thanks though!
Sprint only unlocks for international not local. Mine was unlocked but still did not work so I used CloudyG3.

I'll let you know in about 15 mins. What your screen is cracked? I thought my phone was broken because the screen was all black and would not turn on and I read every thread and no one seemed to know how to fix. Only solution I found was to send it in. But then I just took phone apart and unplugged the battery a day boom it turned on

OK so I used this method to unlock the sprint LG g2 and while going into the dialer settings and changing the settings while I didn't use the settings that op suggested I switched to I believe gsm preferred and then went into the apn settings where the dev of Cloudy rom has edited in a bunch of different apns and t-mobile did work it just wasn't at speeds that we are used to this day and age in my opinion.. really not worth it to me. Tried using Verizon and while the apns popped up for it I couldn't seem to get it working. May just be the settings I was trying. But All In All The Method Does Work Just The Speed Is A factor

I am getting pretty fast speeds on GSM (250-350kbps) for the G2, maybe network in your area is not that good?

Flash CloudyG3 and follow Sprint instructions in the FAQ for that ROM, then you should be able to use it unlocked.

Yes, but I believe it actually requires more work, check out the unlock thread. It has a detailed explanation of how to do it. I prefer CloudyG3 as it does not have Sprint junk installed.

I found it earlier as well, thanks. I do not like bloatware either, but I need "stock stable" operations of my phone. I was planning to root it, so the thread gives me what I need. Not sure why it did not register for me before, too much info. I saved a link to it a week ago.
OM
Regarding the "stock stable" comment above: CloudyG3 on the G2 has been rock solid stable, and much smoother performance than the stock ROMs that I tested when I first got my G2 several days ago (ZVC was on it, it updated to ZVD, I never bothered with the ZVE update, but I did roll it back to ZV8 for some testing before I committed to installing CloudyG3).
The G3 UI is awesome, far better IMO than the G2 UI, and performance has been amazing. I installed the Dorimanx kernel and tweaked the Extreme_Battery profile a bit using STweaks and so far it's been nothing but pure awesome and I'm very happy with it.
Haven't had one issue since I did this about 3 days ago, and in fact the battery life has been steadily improving as the ROM "settles in" which is expected in some situations when that's done. I had over 7.5 hours of screen-on time yesterday and that was with only 88% on the battery when I unplugged it. I looped "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" 3x in a row with screen on the whole time (obviously) and sound muted; that movie is 2 hours and 15 mins long start to finish (including the credits because it has not one, not two, but THREE scenes during the credits).
I'm VERY happy with this CloudyG3 ROM on this G2 of mine, and as noted above and in many other posts, if you install CloudyG3 2.0 on the Sprint G2 the only thing you'll have to do afterward is put in a GSM SIM card and that's about it for it to work. All the "unlocking" stuff has been done with this ROM ahead of time - it's possible to stay pure absolute Sprint stock on this but getting that SIM unlock functional can be quite problematic, the instructions are "simple" but they still don't always work out. I made several attempts to do it with my Sprint G2 when I got it and finally gave up after reading all the positive reviews of CloudyG3.
If you want pure stock Sprint ROM action, you're going to have to work to get that SIM unlocked and it's not going to be easy - there's no "click this, click that, you're done" type solution, unfortunately.
Unless of course you take the "click this, click that, you just installed CloudyG3 on your G2, you're done..." route.

can we go from the experimental to this one or should we start from scratch?
i get the bootloop too? could it be from using the apps package from the experimental build?

When this happened to me it was because I didn't know to downgrade the radio to ZV8. Once I did that the ROM booted OK.
CAUTION backup your modem and EFS before you downgrade so you can restore them if you want to go back to a newer stock ROM- EFS might not change but modem for sure. I spent a whole day with "no service" trying to get back to ZVE which has been all round best for me.
Ok after some extensive research I finally got it working with the latest nightly jan 20th. I wiped everything except internal.. Flashed the cm12 then zv8 radio.. Wiped cache and dalvic and it booted fine.. I then proceeded to install the appropriate gapps..

Sooo- I'm no developer but I can tell you what worked for me. We're starting from different working roms and, except maybe for the recovery, can't imagine this matters. I am on stock ZVE, Dorimanx bumped kernel V9.55KK and bumped TWRP 2.8.3.1
1. nandroid backup and modem backup
2. wipe standard wipe and system
3. flash ZV8 radio from here- http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/G2_modems
4. wipe dalvik
5. flash CM nightly (works with 20150120 didn't try older ones)
6. wipe dalvik and reboot
Probably a couple of extra wipes in there but can't hurt. Hope this works for you.
I expect good things from this rom- Shelnutt2 always did a nice things for the Optimus G my last phone.
Thank you
Just wanted to start of saying thanks to @Shelnutt2 for posting up the thread. I'm not sure if you are just going keep the thread up as a place for discussion around the official build for our device OR the CM maintainer that pulled the lucky LS980 number, but either way, thanks!
I came from the December 26th dated alpha build that @Rashed97 did for all the G2 variants and it ran good, few things here and there, but it had been my daily driver since Dec 28th and I've been happy since then. Was apprehensive about flashing the nightly builds because it's usually a regression at first BUT I have to say, so far, so good. My good friend and teammate @thoughtlesskyle and his themes pushed me over the edge, I just had to get the Theme Engine so I could try them on my own device so here I am, on CM12 Official nightly 20150128 and love using the THEMES! :good::good:
All, CM's built in SU control doesn't play nice with Titanium Backup AT ALL (ie, your apps will not restore) so you'll need to either just install SuperSU from the Play Store and update binaries as OR flash it when you flash rom.
Things that did not work in the Unofficial CM12 build that I noticed myself were:
1. No SIM Card warning on lock screen
2. CM Messenger app *send button did not work so app was useless
2a. MMS were not able to be received (not even through Google Messenger app)
3. GPS (well, not like that really worked on stock anyway.....
4. Sometimes system volume would just go to zero requiring reboot to restore
5. VERY hard to get the device to connect to Spark B41 networks (but had SOLID B25/B26 performance)
5a. Mobile networks setting would change on it's on
6. Theme Engine missing
7. Speaker phone didn't work, would turn sound from caller/video chat into very garbled unrecognizable output
8. NFC was SOOOO broken that it required manually deleting the NFC folder from system to keep from 100% wakelock
9. I'm sure other odds and ends but all in all, no show stoppers and I've been quite impressed with the CM12 start for our device
Now, I'm about 1hr fresh on the official build and can confirm that of my list 9 items from unofficial, 2a and 6 are fixed. I'll update as I spend more time with the rom but I'm looking forward to more good things here.
Finding Lollipop for my phone thoroughly made my day. Truly. Thousands of thanks to shel and whomever else got this here.
Flashed 1/28 clean with ZV8 radios via TWRP 2.7.0.0. Way quicker and better-looking and -feeling than stock.
GPS , MMS (with Google Messenger) and speaker work for me.
I've had no trouble with the built-in SU (I dig it), but I restore with ROM Toolbox Pro, not Titanium.
Send button on stock Messaging doesn't work for me either.
It does read "No SIM card - Sprint" on lock screen (as well as during the CM setup process).
Bluetooth works, but texts cannot be read by my car (as they could with stock and most, if not all ROMS on my N5).
Haven't touched NFC. Cheers and thanks again.
If you want the remote from lg, here is the thread for the remote to work on AOSP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2929146
I've been using it in resurrection ROM for a while now. Since it is from the g3, it has a newer look.
I may come back to cm12, but haven't taken the dive yet.
May wait to see what else Mr Rogers finds. I know cm messenger has been unable to send since the beginning of alphas. Would think they could get that fixed. Also, for a limited data guy, not being able to shut off sprint data has been a issue for me.
Especially since I've heard d802, can shut their off with the toggle.
Looks like using any system profile mutes notifications. Can't get 'em to come back without a reboot.
I'm on the 26th version and just about everything seems to work fine. Sending messages works, sim shows up fine (using consumer cellular [att]), etc. Only thing that I'm curious about is UMS (usb mass storage). My car will not read an mtp device but did read usb mass storage when I was using my motorola atrix (using its internal sdcard, no external card required). Anybody know how to make it work in this rom or should I give that tmobile kk rom a shot (not sure how well it'd work on att)?

Scratch that. GPS isn't working. It can locate me when I'm connected to Wi-Fi, but not otherwise.
Screen is stuck in portrait orientation.
I can't get back to my stock backup. Same thing happened on my LG Optimus G: can't get back to AOSP without a total format.
i apologize for posting here, but i came across this thread looking for cyanogenmod 12 for d803. I saw on github you are a contributor. So, i was wondering that if it was even remotely possible for you to build d803? i know it could be a hassle for you thank you for your hard work in building for the beloved g2.

Got it. Had to clean-flash 2/1 to get screen rotation working, though.
Tried wiping caches and flashing 1/28, then wiping caches and system. Neither worked.
Still, I'm the happiest camper I've been since I've had the G2.
