I'm trying to flash LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic Global.ftf onto an Arc that has 0.62 installed.
Using Flashtool 0.8.0.0 but it keeps telling "flash cancelled" before I've even plugged the phone in.
Drivers have been correctly installed, and I'm dragging/dropping the .ftf file into the Flashtool window, then selecting that file from the next window that pops up. But it then gives me the following:
24/033/2012 22:33:05 - INFO - Selected LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic Global.ftf
24/033/2012 22:33:05 - INFO - Flash canceled
This is before I've even connected the phone.
Any ideas what's wrong? I'm new to Sonys.
I've read somewhere that only Flashtool v5.x.x.x or v6.x.x.x can flash 2.3 ROMs onto an Arc - is this correct?
Where can I get it if that's the case?
I'm currently downloading the latest Flashtool I can find v.9.0.0.0
http://androxyde.github.com/
Thanks, so I can get v6 from there - is this my problem though? Surely any later/subsequent versions of Flashtool should incorporate compatibility with every phone/ftf that went before it?
I am slightly frustrated, this reminds me of my days of jumping through hoops when I had an HTC...
Any pointers on what the problem might be will be gratefully received!
After trying Flashtool v8 and v9 I finally managed to obtain v 0.6.7.0 which worked.
I use Flashtool 0.7.1.0 works perfectly
Not working for me

I know it's has been a year o so since last reply to this thread . I'm trying to do exactly what you claim that was accomplished.
I'm asking you to share me the exact flashtool version that worked for you :good:. Nowadays it's been difficult to download a previous reliable version of flastool exe like those installers that you claim.
The latest flashtool version (currently v0.9.11) recognizes my LT15a device, but when I try to flash the device, the ROM I intend to flash (LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic Global.ftf) doesn't appear in the list, and I'm sure that the ROM is located in the firmware folder. :crying:
Androxyde encourages to use latest version but it's not working for me. I'm using 64 bit Win8. Drivers are working just fine. I appreciate any help here.

Yeah, pretty sure. I confirm newer versions of flashtool (0.9 and 0.8) don't work for this particular purpose at the time. Some other ftf files do appear in the list except for the one I intended to flash LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic Global.ftf. But I was able to get over this with your help, all of you.

:good: Setspeed, I would like to thank your effort in this particular request in such short notice. Finally I managed to flash de ftf with your FT v0.6.7.0 installer link. At the last minute, I decided to flash a slighty similar ftf file: LT15a arc_v2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic America (thanks to BluechipJ), since the stock model of my device was LT15a. I worked out like expected and finally I applied the root with the same FT version, successfully. Again, thanks. :good:
Finally, just for the record, not related to the thread, :cyclops: I'm trying to upgrade to 4.0.2.A.0.62 via the update center app in order to get a rooted 0.62 android, but the device is refusing the upgrade when connected with Wi-Fi. Information regarding this in other threads/forums suggests that is more likely to obtain the upgrade via 3G rather than via Wi-Fi, and some people claim being successful in the matter. I'll try that in a few days , if successful I will clean up bloat-ware in 0.62. If not successful, then I will clean up backup apps and clean bloat-ware in 0.42. I'm living in Colombia, I don't know if that has something to be related with OTA upgrade (3G or Wi-Fi) or anything else .
However, I like what I got by the moment, 'cause is a rooted firmware. I will thank again and consider done this issue in my case.
Just asking...did you run Flashtool as administrator?
Glad you (mostly) sorted your problem. I can't help with the rest I'm afraid, I barely had this phone for a week, it belonged to a friend and she hasn't had any issues since

Well, you don't mention which model of the Play you have. If you aren't sure, you can remove the battery and look on the sticker. It will say something like "R800x" or "R800i", etc.
Once you know what this is, you can reflash the original firmware. This will put the phone back to the original, unrooted stock version, just like it just came out of the box. Most of the firmwares needed are found in this post right here. The firmware file is usually archived either with rar or zip, so you will need to unarchive it. You will also need to download and install Flashtool which can be found here. In the event you can't access the file from there, a mirror link is found here.
Once you have the necessary files, it's pretty easy to do. There are complete instructions on the Flashtool site, but basically you just copy the ftf file into the firmwares folder within the Flashtool folder. Then launch Flashtool and follow the on screen instructions.
Post back with results or questions. And please hit the Thanks button if I helped you.

Special ftf file?
I heard that I must use a special ftf file to unbrick my phone. Any ideas? Thanks
I think its from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126354
But then the links are not working (I think)
from my noob knowledge if you ota with bootloader unlocked then you will brick the device but in your 1st post you said you aint sure if its locked or unlocked. then in your second last post you tried to download the FOTAunbrick.exe file but you said the download link is unavailable. download FOTAunbrick.exe and run it (the link isn't dead just downloaded it myself for safe keeping) or xperia_relock_bootloader.ftf(2nd option) i have below. you got nothing to lose.
ps
next time you wanna upgrade just use wontan server(not free) or download an ftf. and flash it via flashtool here with the same instructions dude in the second post has given regarding flashtool steps

The link there is dead in some countries, like the US, as it is MultiUpload. @Solomon4400 - I suggest posting that file up to another site that sonyxperiaplayer can access to download it.
@ sonyxperiaplayer - you actually downloaded the ftf and the flashtool program I linked you to? Because normally that ought to do it.
I agree with netizenmt on this one.
the special ftf files you are seeking is the stock rom firmware he already managed.
As you got r800i, you have to flash the international stock firmware (I guess but I am not sure!) you could also just flash stock rom 2.3.4 - So you can upgrage while saving your phone - instead of re-applieing 2.3.2
Just get flashtool and firmware (ftf file) connect phone to pc, put ftf file in flashtool, follow instructions. Good to go
If you need any firmware files, check my signature. The links in that post actually work.

It's the correct one, I've used it before and it worked.
Probably got corrupted or something, I'm re-downloading it again and I'll see if it works.
When I load the FTF in Flashtool, none of the firmware contents are displayed, then when I click OK to begin flashing, Flashtool cancels and then automatically disconnects my device.
Were you able to have any luck yet?

Not with Flashtool, every time I tried to load the FTF, the Firmware Components aren't listed in the middle, no visible check boxes on right either, click OK, Flashtool says the the firmware is loaded and then right after it says Flashing Canceled. The pop-up window that shows you how to connect in flash mode doesn't even show up.
I thought I was screwed, because I originally un-installed a ton of stock apps including SE Home and had aftermarket replacement apps in their place, when I cleared the user data and cache through Recovery mode. My phone wouldn't even boot, I did that because I was planning on re-flashing my device anyways. I know that all I had to do was re-flash it with the stock firmware, but Flashtool just wouldn't even work for me. I even installed it on my laptop only to have it do the exact same thing, very weird.
So I purchased a few credits for 1.99 EUR on WotanServer.com and used their client to successfully flash my Xperia PLAY and now it's back up and running.

Yeah i had that problem to!
I'm from Croatia, and i saw on change log, that some region's can't see .FTF file's middle things. So the solution for me was to download 0.6.9.1.
If that's the reason why, then that's pretty messed up. Because the same FTF worked before on an older version of Flashtool. I just tried to Google an older version of Flashtool and there no where to be found.
try installing the driver from a earlier version of flash tool
Can't find an earlier version of Flashtool anywhere.
I found Flashtool v0.7.0.0 on this Minus file hosting site and it can read my R800a_2.3.4_North America Generic.ftf file perfectly fine.
i have same problem the ftf files dont show up
same here i click on the ftf file no files i click on the to start flash it cancels on too
i tried the north america one and uk but i need 0.42 on my phone. i have just unlocked my network and now i unlocked bootloader.
i had originally 0.42 but flashed it to 0.62 and my 0.42 ftf files i got from 4 diffrent links all blank when i click on them in flash tool oh yeah there is glitch on flash tool if u click 0.62 which shows files but then click 0.42 it still show 0.62 files which can

If you messed up your ROM by installing wrong kernel, not wiping data, doing stuff in the wrong order etc, and your ROM doesn't start and you don't know how to fix it...
Follow these instructions to return to:
1. Stock Gingerbread
2. Stock ICS
3. Stock ICS + root
1. Choose appropriate FTF file and download:
ONLY LT15i
.62 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/lpdhtmqi/LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Generic Global World.ftf
.42 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/vmfu4czg
ONLY LT15a
.62 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/f58llc72
ONLY LT18i
.62 firmware: http://uploaded.to/file/gsfx4w60
2. Download and install flashtool https://github.com/Androxyde/Flashtool/zipball/master
3. In settings on phone, allow unknown sources, turn on usb debugging. (if you can't start your phone, ignore.)
4. Turn off phone.
5. Connect usb cable to phone, hold back key while plugging the USB to the pc. LED is now GREEN
6. Open flashtool, drag the downloaded FTF file to the flashtool window. Press ok.
7. You may need to reconnect the phone the same way as before.
8. The stock GB is now flashing. Gingerbread 2.3.4 INSTALLED
From here the phone is fixed and you can do whatever you want.
ICS:
9. Connect the phone to the computer and install ics 4.0.3 via pc companion/sony update service.
ROOT:
10. Download rootkit: http://bit.ly/ert_xperia_2011_ics_1
11. Extract files anywhere.
12. Again make sure unknown sources are allowed, turn on usb debugging.
13. Run runme.bat
Phone is now rooted.
I can not guarantee that this will work for you/your device however I am quite confident that if you follow the instructions carefully you will succeed.

This can be helpful for anyone whose ROM isn't working. It is directed to noobs who accidentally ruins their custom ROM so they can start over. I understand this reply is far too late but for people in the future:
You cannot upgrade to ICS when your bootloader is unlocked. You can easily lock it again using this small FTF file. When the upgrade with PC companion is complete, you can continiue modifying your phone with custom ROMs etc.

It is very hard for me to know what is causing this problem. Some minor modifications to the flashing procedure can potentially fix it. Try doing it like this: Open FlashTool, drag the FTF-file and drop it in the dialog box. Press ok and wait for the instructions to pop up. When they do, connect the USB-cable FIRST to the phone and after that hold back key while plugging it to the computer. If the battery of the phone is too low I think it can cause problems, try to charge your battery (if possible) and try again. Also make sure to flash the appropriate FTF-file, accordning to your model.
Hello,
I recently tried to update my Xperia ZL L35H (purchased in China) to the latest 10.3.A.0.423 firmware. I chose the C6502 variant because it seemed that this was the same model with some regional variations. All worked well, until I tested the mobile data connection, which was non-existent. Considering that both L35H and C6502 both use HSPA, this incompatibility with the C6502 firmware was surprising. I even used the AOKP ROM for awhile and had no issues with data connectivity.
What's worse, I had my CWM backups on internal storage. My bad, I know. Updating to the 10.3.A.0.423 erased my internal storage, so, no more stock firmware backups.
I would be most grateful if some one could help me either:
*Help me find a L35H firmware, or
*Help me troubleshoot the data connection on the C6502 10.3.A.0.423 firmware.
L35h
Glad to see someone else has the L35h. I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem, but I was wondering if you were able to root it, and how?
I rooted mine with Bin4ry's script, but then made the mistake of upgrading, not knowing that it would remove the root. (I'm completely new to Android and had no idea that the phone would come with a bastardized version of Android that doesn't even allow a Google account to be on it, without rooting.) Now I'm on 10.1.1.A.1.253, but none of the rooting scripts will root it now.
I rooted the 253 using :

Then lost root after updating to 10.3.A.0.423. I rooted that using:

Thanks, I might have to do it this way ultimately. I'm afraid of destroying my phone completely, but maybe it's the only way I'll be able to do it.

Maybe you could help me out here. What 253 variant did you use? Does everything work on it? What shows for "Model Number" under "About Phone" in settings? Could you post a download link for me?
I got it to work. I'm currently using the C6503, but the C6502 might have worked as well.
The key in to go into Settings/Xperia and click on "Internet settings". Afetr a brief download, my 3G data was back!
Everything appears to be working fine! No more L35H!

Where did you get the 10.3.A.0.423 firmware? I've decided I'm going to use Flashtool and just go for it. Would be nice to say zaijian to L35h.

You have to register and log in to activate the download link on the xperiablog page. Both the C6503 and the C6502 worked for me. Supposedly, the C6503 adds LTE support, but I don't know if there's a hardware difference to reflect that. I've been using this firmmware for a week now, and it's been flawless.
Also, check out Doomlord's easy rooting toolkit (for root) and XZDualRecovery (for CWM and TWRP) here on XDA, both of which work flawlessly on this firmware as tested on my device.
Check out my post on this page if you're disappointed with the stock sound volume limitation.
And don't forget the "thanks" button if you appreciate my help
Thanks so much! Which country firmware did you use? I was wondering if I should go with Germany, Indonesia, or US.

I'd go with whichever one matches where you're at. I'd have to look it up to know for sure. Both the Indonesia and the MEA (Middle East?) ones worked on mine, and I'm in China. Some locations use the same bands, others don't. I'm no expert in how that works. I might be wrong here, but I think the Settings/Xperia/Internet Settings auto-patch takes care of that for you. My 3G (or any data connection) didn't work until I took care of that.

I'm in China as well, so I'll go with the Indonesia one too, especially since I know it worked for you. Thanks again for the help!
It worked! Took a while to figure out the drivers and stuff, but it flashed easily and now I have a non-bastardized, non-Chinese phone. Seems to run faster and smoother too. Great to say goodbye to the L35h and hello to the C6502!

Good to hear. If it starts bugging out on you, let me know so I can verify it or reproduce the bug on mine.

How's your automatic backlight working? Does it dim/brighten automatically?

Haven't noticed any problem like that. Or any real problems. Maybe the notification/SMS sounds are a bit wonky, but nothing that's really bothered me or is especially noticeable. Am still getting notices about how "this version of Android doesn't allow in-app payments" or something like that. I expected those to go away. But maybe it's just because I'm in China with a China Mobile SIM.
Hi Guys! I too brought sony xperia L35H from china....and would like to flash the MEA C6503 version. I installed the flash tool and made the FTF file ready. while just to make sure everything is alright i connected my phone and opened the flash tool. It says "device connected with USB debugging off", although i have enabled usb debugging in my phone. Do i have to install the adb as well or am i missing something. Any help is highly appreciated! Thanks
EDIT- SOLVED

HERE is the easiest way to root latest firmware.
Hey there, I could use some help with this whole root thing as well...
My Z1C is still on .108, but now all the tutorials seem to be for .157 and include flashing with a .108 stock rom???
So do I have to update my Xperia first, then flash it with an older version, root it and flash it with .157???
Some tutorials seem to be removed since they "don't work with the latest firmware anymore"...
Also how do I backup my phone before I root it?
Thanks.
I hope this helps...

Well let me help you both with this, since I have spent around three days wasting my time figuring out how to root the Z1C which appeared later on that I have downloaded the wrong files because the thread it self was providing the kernels for Z1 and not the Z1C. So this is what I did:
It is ok to update your phone to .157 so go on with it, when done make sure your phone isn't connected and is switched off.
1- Download Flash tool from http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php. After it downloads install it and JUST IN CASE you haven't installed the Z1C drivers go to Your C: drive and click the Flashtool folder then go to Flash tool drivers and you will find the Flashtool drivers installer. Click and install USB drivers and Fastboot drivers, scroll down and select Z1 compact drivers too.
2- Download the two required Z1C kernels and the RootTool as well from http://d-h.st/M9a make sure you Click the DOWNLOAD NOW button not the upper DOWNLOAD button because it is just a useless malware!
then place the two .ftf files in c:/flashtool/firmwares folder. Make sure you place the two '.ftf' files that are in the .zip in the firmware folders you can download them from the attachment too below.
3- Open the flash tool, Click on the flash button (top left) and choose the Flashtool method where you will find the two kernel files you placed in Firmwares folder.
4- Click once on the .108 Kernel and click flash, AFTER THAT press the volume down button on your phone while it is switched off and connect it to USB and wait for the Flash to start and end, it will take several seconds.
5- once it is done disconnect your phone and restart it by simply switching it on.
6- Unzip and place the rootkitXperia_20140719 folder better on your C: Drive. Connect your phone and run the tool by double clicking Install. bat (it might show only install as a name) and keep watching your phone screen to approve. Wait for it to be done and then restart your phone, then switch it off.
7- Follow the same method above to install the .157 Kernel again to your phone and you're done!
PM me if you needed anymore help. Sorry if my guidance is complicated a little bit, just let me know.
All the best!
Thanks for the help. I did however just root my .108 now because I really, really didn't want to unlock my bootloader and flash the kernel.

You don't need to unlock your bootloader to flash kernels or root.157

Really? Damn, must have misunderstood some of the guides. Thanks for the hint.
It's just a load of information at once, and this is my first Smartphone, so I didn't want to go overboard.
Is the .157 update even relevant in any way? And now that my phone is rooted, can't I just flash .157?
I think if you flash .157 you will lose root and will have to reroot by the method I mentioned.
I have D5503 with .157 Will I loose data using this method? If yes, is there a method to root the phone and save all data (including game saves, settings and everythink)?

No, not if you flash 108 kernel, root then flash 157 kernel back with flashtool.
When I run rootkit, it says "Waiting for device". Mobile is connected with PC companion. I have tried to install drivers, tried to change phone connect mode.... Do not know what is a problem. I do not have SD card in my device.
OK passed the "Waiting for device". Now stuck on "daemon started successfully"
So problem solved. The only problem was that the phone has hidden developer options where is USB debbuging. There is a little trick to open developer options so I have enabled USB debugging and than root works.
successfully rooted xperia z1 d5503 4.4.4
@emiratesson thanks i followed the instructions that you gave. At first im having a problem in flashing the 108 because my pc companion is ON im getting errors. I noticed that even though i flash 108 i still have firmware 157 because my current FW is 157 no changes and i tried to root it using rootkitXperia_20140719 still in 157 and a SuperSU app was created in my phone i guess that is the root app.
Current Build: xperia z1 d5503 4.4.4 firmware 157.
