Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to extract the Acer OEM apps which come bundled with the stock ICS ROM, such as Planner, Acer Media, MusicA etc, so that I can install them later in custom ROMs such as CM9 on the A100? I tried using Titanium Backup, which would backup the apps fine from the official ROM but fails to restore the OEM apps when I am running a custom ROM I love using the Acer Media, MusicA, Planner apps and severely miss them when I am running a custom ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ...

That's likely due to the framework Acer uses. Also, bad idea restoring system apps and data. Never a good idea.
However, what you can try to do instead is pull the APK and install as user data instead, flex reaper thread has a zip with the "bloat" software in it, give that a try. I'll see about pulling them from the ROM itself and pushing it to my tab on CM9 or CM10 and see if it takes. I doubt it, though. It'll have to be a little bit, probably tomorrow.

Thanks a lot pio. I will give that a try. Yeah, I found out restoring system apps and data was really a bad idea. This is my first Android device and I am learning about the nooks and corners as I go..

No problem, just take it slow, and check if you have any questions before doing something you might regret later :good:

When I saw this, I though, "Your'e crazy!" But I tried it anyway...yeah, I'm crazy too...Amazingly, it actually works!! It's pretty slow (and the camera preview goes wonky just like the stock JB camera app), and video recording is broken on this ROM currently (Pons CM10-Unofficial-11-01). But the 4.2 camera actually works.
I copied the files over manually and fixed permissions (I used X-plore, but Root Explorer or adb would work as well), that way I could back up all the files I was replacing in case things went ugly. I quickly found:
The Problem. There's not enough room on the system partition for this newer (bigger) camera app and for the extra libs it requires. SO it will fail if you just try to flash the .zip. The easiest way to get it to work is to use Titanium Backup to uninstall some stuff. First to go is Gallery (we're replacing that), then I uninstalled Email, Exchange Services, Setup Wizard, Google One Time Init, and Trebuchet (make sure you have another launcher installed before you remove Trebuchet). THen, it was just a matter of copying the new files into place, fixing their permissions, and rebooting. But if you clean up some space on /system, you should be able to install the .zip from recovery and be good to go.

I did exactly what you put and it WORKED!!! you have no idea how excited I am thank you so very much!
Just by way of confirmation, it does work (and is easier) to install the 4.2 camera this way:
1. Install your favorite JB ROM and gapps; boot the phone.
2. Using Titanium, uninstall gallery, and a few other things as mentined in post #2.
3. Boot into recovery again and install the 4.2 camera zip. (the one that's patched to work on non-nexus devices, procured elsewhere)
4. Boot the phone again and enjoy the goodness!
If anybody figures out a way to get anything useful out of photosphere on this phone, let me know.

All good advice, and uninstalling unneeded system apps is prudent with JB Roms. But to short circuit all this - I simply use the Camera360 app, which I find to be much better than the native camera app.

Except this thread is about the 4.2 camera which has Photosphere it in, not the stock app itself.
Well photosphere seems to be pretty much a functional failure on the Dinc, but the new gallery app is pretty cool. It's fast (it took some time to 'settle in'), plus the photo editing features are pretty neat. I'm liking it!
do you have a link where the 4.2 camera zip is? I've been looking for days to find a way to get the camera working on this dinc running tinys cm10. if there is another thread with a detailed walkthrough or if you could maybe post one to help those like me looking for this camera fix it would be much appreciated. desperately need to get this monkey off my back so I can pass this phone on. thanks!

The 4.2 camera being discussed in this thread had been ripped from the Nexus 4 and patched by Android Police (I believe) to work on other phones. I don't have the link handy, but I'm not sure it would do you any good anyway. What are you trying to fix? The camera (except for video recording) works on tiny's CM10, works better than the 4.2 camera actually because the camera preview goes nuts sometimes on the 4.2 camera, and tiny's CM10 uses the legacy (ICS) camera which does not have the preview issues. If you really want the 4.2 camera, an easier way to get it is to flash tiny's CM10.1, but like I said, this will have the preview issues. The only difference between the default CM10.1 camera and the patched 4.2 camera is Photosphere, which does not work on our phones anyway.
If you're looking for a camera 'fix' for CM10, the only thing that needs fixing is the camcorder, and for that you have two options:
1. Low-quality video recording with VideoCam Illusions, free on the Play Store
2. Use a Gingerbread (or older) ROM.
sorry for misunderstanding, I've been looking everywhere to figure out the issues I'm having with this dinc. I can't get the camera working or Netflix running tinys cm10. I don't think it's the Rom but I can't figure out where I've gone wrong. I've been lurking these forums for a while and have been able to troubleshoot the three other devices pretty good with the amazing info on here, but this one is getting the best of me at the moment. bought this dinc reconditioned, it was running 2.3.4 and I followed a tutorial to downgrade to 2.2 and root and get s-off with cwm. I upgraded to the latest cwm recovery and have flashed this rom 3 times trying to make sure it was clean. just keep getting a black screen when I try any camera app until it force closes. when I play a movie on Netflix everything works but the video is a black screen, even the sound plays. I realize this is in the wrong place but I can't post in dev yet, maybe I should start a new thread?

Netflix is broken on this device past gingerbread. I've yet to hear a single user report video on Netflix as working.
Do you remember having a working camera when you first started using it? It could be hardware failure for the camera. Also which gapps file did you flash? If you flashed the wrong one it could cause funkiness. If you didn't flash any, the camera should be working. I know that doesn't make sense but try to answer these questions as best as you can.
I followed the link to the gapps from tinys cm10 thread and downloaded jb 20121011 signed. I'll try without gapps tomorrow to see what that does. I hadn't begun to look into the Netflix issue yet so thank you for saving me the time on that. if that's not the right gapps then I'll try another, I appreciate the help, thank you. thanks for an awesome Rom btw, I have yet to find one this nice for any other device I'm using. Happy New year!

I've looked through the forums for hours now and according to the noob video made by xda. I'm asking for help. I have an at&t Samsung galaxy s3 with the CyanogenMod installed (as the title implies) and to be honest its not worth the hastle. I'm having problems left and right. First off, the camera app that comes with the phone is missing. Or if theres a custom one. Its not included. I'm aware that I can find and install an external apk but I'll get to the problem with that in a bit. I followed very detailed instructions on installing the cyanogenmod and gapps and everything was fine (stable version) but the notifications suggested I update the mod so I did. Now I have the camera but my play store will not work. It opens for a split second then closes. Also, the file manager is gone. So I downloaded multiple file managers and it seems after first use that they can no longer open anything. I can't even access the files. I checked the superuser allowed and disallowed apps and everything seems fine. Now with the apk problem. Almost any apk I download will not install on my phone. Sorry for the erratic problems just jumbled everywhere in this post but I'm using my phone to write this so its a bit difficult to organize. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. A link to a post already like this (which I couldn't find) or a link to a tutorial maybe or troubleshooting these problems. I will delete this post as soon as I find a solution so I don't use up space on the forums with a somewhat personal problem. Thanks in advance!

Go in application settings and delete your play store's data/cache. That should fix it.
Without it, it's kinda hard to install apps unless you sideload. If you do sideload, you need to allow it in your settings (security I believe).
if you're using the stable version of CM
you might have to go to Date & Time setting
and fix the date on there in order to make play store works
and everything you say about camera, it is weird indeed because not only CM, every rom out there should include a camera app
if that problem still exists for you, you might want to clean/wipe everything, from cache to system and then flash the rom again
Thank you guys. I tried wiping the cache and it still didn't work. I don't mind side loading which is what I've been doing but its not ideal. I can only search for the exact app(s) I want rather than exploring via play store. Also, you guys didn't mention the problem with the file managers not working after first try. If you have any feedback it'd be great. I would like to keep the cyanogenmod but its just not worth the time and effort (opinion). If I can't fix the problem or find a solution I'll just go back to my phones stock UI because even though I think flashing ROMs is awesome. It really isn't worth frustrating myself with something that's an option and not a necessity. Thanks in advance for feedback.

the file manager part is really weird.
if you clean install, especially the stable version, everything should works just fine
however, it sounds like bad install though
how about this this
Download Titanium Backup and wipe data + cache for file manager only and see if it works
if not, try the longer way
download stock att rom(4.1.1)
go to recovery, wipe everything
go to download mode
flash stock rom with odin
restart to recovery, wipe dalvik and cache
root the phone
Re-Download CM10 stable
go to recovery, wipe everything, including System
flash cm10
reboot and see if everything works
Yeah I've tried a factory reset. It only deleted my user data not really resetting the phone. Thank you pcchano (sorry if I got name wrong) I'll try and erase everything and reinstall from scratch but its not my first time using custom ROMs so I'm sure I did it right but I'll give it a go. Also, someone told me that I need to completely wipe any data associated with Google wallet before I root or else play store will not work. Has anyone tried out this theory or know anything about it? It doesn't make sense to me seeing as wallet is saved server side beside the basic user data stored on the phone. But please let me know. You guys are all very helpful thanks for the feedback.

Also, I've never had to wipe dalvik before? Could that be my problem? I also noticed that when I updated cm the info panel said 'experimental' even though I chose the stable version to start with? Could some of these problems be associated with cm rather than blaming it on my phone? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

i have like 2 s3 using CM10 stable version and no problem with it (other than the play store wouldn't connect due to the date in setting wasn't correct) while I myself am using CM10.1 and other than the bugs that come with CM10.1 or google source code, it is a functional rom
so i would rather say, it is your phone
and you should always wipe dalvik cache along with cache partition before flashing new rom.
OK pcshano thanks very much. I'll just erase everything and start from scratch. Thanks everyone who helped me. This forum and you people are awesome. I'll delete this post as soon as I reinstall the ROM to make sure it worked. Thanks again!

The stable cm is of the 10 variety. The experimental builds are 10.1 if I'm not mistaken. In which case you should only need to flash the appropriate gapps package to get the play store functioning and camera as well. The file manager issue I don't know beyond the external sd card being a bit sketchy on 4.2 builds. Are you using an external sd card? Start with a fresh flash of 10.1 if you want to go with that, flash a 4.2 gapps zip and see what happens from there.

Hello all,
This is a straight up compile of Cyanogemod's source. Only thing added was CM Accounts. I have been contemplating whether or not to start this thread simply because I really don't have time to maintain a thread with work, school, and family but since I have not seen a working build posted yet (actually chenxialong has working builds for all jf devices), I decided to give mine. From what I have seen (I have been using as daily driver) CM 10.2 is pretty stable for our devices already.
I compile at least once a day, and usually twice so these builds will be my latest. If there are no significant changes upstream, I will not post a new build. I am really not a coder, although I have a little experience, so please don't ask me to fix things because I most likely won't know how to. Like I said, I am compiling directly from source.
My build names are time stamped as to when they were compiled, right down to the minute (PDT). The Gapps I post are the ones I used. I am not sure which thread I acquired them from, so I am truly sorry to the original poster. I tried many and most were bloated with uneeded apps so I chose this one. If they are yours, please let me know so I can give credit.
This thread will pretty much become obsolete once nightlies for 10.2 are available.
ROM is hosted on Google drive. Any mirrors are welcome.
Full wipe is needed if coming from any other non CM 10.2 ROM. If root is needed, go to Settings-->About Phone-->Tap Build Number seven times. Developer options are now available in settings. Under Developer Options-->Root Access select Apps and ADB.
There have been reports of issues with PhilZ recovery and CM builds. If you are using Philz and have issues, try a different recovery.

I'm sorry for your tribulations, yeah I said tribulations, but I don't really know what the problem might be. I do know that, in 4.3 there is a change that is being implemented as far as how the system handles root and apps that require it. I backed up my apps using the save to a flashable zip option in Titanium. I would imagine that is is still an option even though you are already booted into CM. You can try that. I am also considering using Helium for backups since it will not require root in the fashion Titanium does.

So, I got in on that fabulous groupon deal and will be expecting my new note soon. I currently own the OG one, but haven't played around with root at all on it. So, once my new one gets here I want to immediately root and de-clutter. I found this nice guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513532 and have a couple of questions regarding some things. First, world it be preferable to just disable apps or delete /uninstall them after making backups with titanium? What does renaming apps to .bak do? Thanks guys!!! can't wait for my new note to arrive!

If you are going to root, I would just install CleanRom 2.0. Scott has done all the work for you.

Hi you can use the custom rom HAL 9000. Except SPen anything else is removed, but when needed you can install Samsung stuff via the Samsung App-Store. It's fast and less probe compared to the Samsung Software.

Personally I just disable system apps most of the time. If you are going to delete them after backing them up then you can save some storage but it is not that much (also the storage is under /system so you dont really have a profit. Renaming apps to .bak prevents them from starting as android will not be able to execute them. You could also name them ".bloat". It is used to make them not executable. Hope I was able to help you a little bit.
Enjoy your new tablet!

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to look into that. Do you know the answers to my original questions?

I always just froze apps in Titanium. Newer devices have enough space that uninstalling does not get you much back. Renaming to .bak is basically like freezing/unistalling as the OS will not see them as installed. Which rom you would install would depend on if you are getting the wifi (CleanRom) or LTE(HAL9000) tablet.
Thanks to both of your helpful replies. Now, when renaming or freezing the app, is it going to cease to show in the drawer? Does the file directory get moved when renaming? Thanks

Not only that, since the apps are in the system partition, uninstalling gives you zero back in terms of space, unless are you are changing the system partition size, which rooting does not do. In the past, I've frozen with Titanium backup. Now I just disable the the apps I don't want if I think those apps are doing things in the background I don't want. If I don't want them, but it doesn't appear they are causing any harm (e.g., don't show up on BetterBatteryStats) I will typically leave them enabled, but hide them with Apex. Apps that are are disabled/frozen/renamed don't appear in the drawer.
I have a completely stock phone & I was using nova launcher from day one but I turned back to the default launcher today and noticed a strange data in the 'shelf'. It was showing that I have low %age of storage left. At first I thought it must be a bug but then after some time I checked the storage in settings and thereafter confirmed this using the app "DiskUsage".
Could anyone help me out here? Kindly have a look at the screenshot I'm attaching.
In short, System data is using 27.3 GB of storage!!!
I suspect it may be due to the flash that I did some time back when I returned to complete stock from a rooted OnePlus 3. Though I followed the official website instructions.
Thanks guys for reading this message & I know someone out there will know about this as I'm not that lucky to encounter a completely unique bug :good:

Latest build should fix this.. If not do a clean install and stay on the latest build. Also if the issue persists try to move to EXT4. F2fs still has loads of weird issues..

Well, I got my latest .5 update yesterday and sadly it didn't solve it so I guess I have to format my phone again. Man, that's really a pain in the A. By the way, is this a common occurrence in OnePlus 3 software?
As far as ext and f2fs is concerned, I don't remember manually formatting my phone to f2fs so I guess it was nougat update which did this!
Thanks man!

Don't know... I haven't seen this issue yet..
hmm, I'll wait till the O update for a clean install as setting up few particular apps (mostly banking & two-factor authentication) is really a boring/huge task for me, plus few apps have just NO backup solution like the now-defunct but awesome keyboard Fleksy, Adguard user filters. I really think Android needs a good global backup function to sync basic things like android settings, SMS, Call logs.
Meanwhile, if anyone know a solution which doesn't include formatting the phone, please do tell me !

I dont really have a clue about titanium backup. Used it once way back when I had Galaxy Note 1.
I remember, it's UI was very complex and had a big learning curve but despite all this, isn't titanium backup a root only app?

Oh right. It is a root only app... Try using rom settings backup from play store, coupled with sms backup and restore.. Does most of the job

Sorry to break it to you but even Rom Settings Backup is root only
but thank you for telling me about this app, may come in handy if I go back to root.
and yes, I did know about the SMS and call log backup, I'm more concerned about the few specific apps like Fleksy keyboard app.
Thank you for your reply.
