How do I get my epic to stop telling me to update - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Epic is rooted and on EL30, and it keeps wanting me to update to FC09. I dont want too, and want my phone to stop telling me to.
I saw someone post an emulator terminal and just enter in a piece of code. I tried that and rebooted the phone and it still told me to update.
2 other minor things, I somehow have a new icon on my home screen that says "Market" and its clearly not the Play Store. I cant seem to get rid of that either.
Any help would be nice! Thanks

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26067695 if one of those don't work, post your build.prop and I can make the changes... just have to change all el30 to fc09... if it still comes back, let it try to install, it will fail then clear cache and dalvik and reboot... good to go...

As well as editing your build.prop as Flast mentioned above, you will need to accept it, let it fail, then wipe cache and Dalvik cache after to clean it out.

Could i just unroot let it update and re root

I think we've seen the last of the "official" builds for our marvelous little device... *sobbing*
I like FC09 just as much as EL30. Don't really see why anyone wouldn't want the last update. Is there any real diffference minus the Sprint Optimizer?

yeah im just stock rooted. And im not going to have the phone for much longer. But before i trade it in ill have to flash it back to stock anyways. So im sure ill just do that

[Q] URGENT! Help, stuck at samsungmobile

So, i rooted using one click root 2.5.x and i have cwm 2.5.1.0 and i flashed the deodex tool which worked, then i flashed the 6 lockscreen mod, which worked, so i then tried to advanced restore my backup that i had made as soon as i rooted, and now i cant get past the samsungmobile boot screen. I tried, wiping data/factory reset in cwm, clearing all kinds of caches, reflashing the deodexing tool, and nothing works. anything i can do besides odin?

+1, see why you should of did this along time ago, you would know what you were doing by now j/k, I know you won't take offence to that... Sometimes if it gets stuck at sammy screen you can try re-installing which ever ROM you were trying to install, I seen this maybe 10 out of the over 500 flashes, no BS... It can happen for a couple reasons...

So you rooted...and then went nuts throwing everything on your phone you can get your hands on...LOL.
You could also have tried reflashing your ROM or did uou just do a kernel?
Thanks for all yhe suggestiond guys, i will try them later. and i didnt throw a bunch of stuff at it, just what i needed for the lockscreen mod.

Will this have the stock kernel in it?
This make take a while longer. I am trying to get this as close to fully stock as possible. It is taking a long time to process. A lot longer than I thought. And I still don't know if it will actually work. Worst case I can make it stock kernel and file system and you do a factory reset on your own.

At the very least you will have to Odin this and do a factory reset. The stock part is working fine. I am trying to include a clean data partition to save a step.

May want to check out gtg465x's Ultimate Unbricks in the Infuse 4G Development section as a reference.
However I think he doesn't nuke data... I've had to do factory resets when Odining my Infuse back to stock. Well I had to do it once... Haven't Odined back to stock in ages and probably never will again at this point.
OK link is up. Do a factory reset to wipe data unless I come up with something different.
Could you also pack this with CWM? Or does it not work with the stock kernel?
So this contains what exactly? Stock kernel and ROM? I'm still a little new to this.

El30 update on ei22 cleangb?

Hello once again! I am currently on the CleanGB rom rooted with cwm, ei22 and I keep getting a popup asking me to upgrade to EL30.... from what I've been reading its a little sketchy...
Anyways, my questions are:
If I were to upgrade, would I have to go back to stock ec05 and upgrade to ei22 then el30, then root and install cwm again? (And what are the pros/cons)
And if I wanted to hide this update message permanently how would I do that?

The biggest thing EL30 does is gets rid of the battery sucking spyware CIQ!
I have cleanGB and am allowing the EL30 update to fail so it will leave me alone.
When it fails, does it just hang with the exclamation point in the triangle with the droid guy? Or does it actually tell me it failed?

It says it failed for a second then hangs at the exclamation point. just pull the battery and put it back in and reboot.

This happened to my wife's epic this morning. She tried to install the update on her rooted epic (no custom ROM) and it gave her a "failed" notice and froze for about an hour. She didn't know what to do so she took out the battery and all works fine now, no update.
I'm wondering if the failure was just because of the phone being rooted, even though she is not on any custom ROM. Anyone know if this is the case?

Answer:
1. use R.E., remove the files .zip in the directory /cache
2. scroll down the notification bar and select upgrade message, then select upgrade. the phone will reboot automatic.
3. the phone will stay in the screen with an icon, now remove the battery and put it back.
4. press voldown+camera+poweron, boot in cwm, select "reboot...." and the phone will reboot in android. then the notification will never appear.

I know it's superficial but that's pretty much the only thing I cared about for the EL30 OTA. I've been running CleanGB 1.0.4 MTD as long as it's been available with no complaints.
Love that new callscreen though! The rest of my family just got onto my plan with 3 stock Epics for Christmas, and their new call screens make me jealous. Haha!

Mtd is a parition like bml... except with mtd you (the devs) can choose how big they want /system /data and /cache.... and instead of rfs/ext4 you have the yaffs2 filesystem which is really stable... unlike ext4 if you have to do a battery pull you won't get corrupted data like you do with ext4

MTD? Then you are screwed. You can't get back to stock without Odin or Heimdall. You need to repartition. BUT there is an MTD version of the FB15 leak which should look enough like stock to get you through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522816
That is the best you can do. You should also do the 2 flashable modems to get you to EL30 and delete Superuser before you bring it in.

It depends on how interested the tech is in making sure it is not a software problem. There are a few horror stories about accounts getting flagged but most of the time the techs don't care. Just smile a lot...lol.

This thread scares the hell out of me. A bad USB port on your epic is a fatal blow to your potential sprint insurance coverage. I cant think of anything worse, especially if your on MTD. Although, if your paying for insurance, i dont think it should really matter what firmware/rom you have on your device.
To the OP, you should be fine. As long as you can make it look at stock as possible, the average sprint employee is not smart enough to get into specifics. They are usually pretty cool about it. As a matter of fact, the tech at my local sprint store put gingerbread on my phone a week before it was released using odin (this was before I knew anything about flashing or rooting), most of the tech's do exactly what we do, so dont sweat it too much.

The one I posted a few posts back (post 16) by Bbelos is the closest to complete stock for MTD. Just delete superuser when done. Then you are only left with CWM recovery as evidence.

You should start at the ns4g modem thread..... everything you've asked here is answered there... except maybe going back to cllean gb... if on an ns4g modem you won't be able to run any tw roms with it... but you can flash back to an epic modem pretty easily...
And I do believe that JB partitions different than other MTD ROMS and an Odin would be required to go backwards.

If you can type a response, you can type in the search box.
Or you could go look in development for the thread labeled NS4G modem patch. It's been in the top 10 for at least 2 weeks.

Seriously... your phone doesn't have google??? And just so you know... I don't even own a computer right now, so that's no excuse... I do all my posting and searching right from the trusty old epic 4g....
I installed the Nexus S 4G modem on CM9.1 using CWM5. It was a two-step process: install actual radio from .zip and then apply a patch to CM9.1 from .zip.
The KL2 radio is attached--I downloaded it from the Nexus S' forums, I think. The patch was available from the Epic Dev forum. The thread with the CM9.1 patch also had patches for other MTD ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037
When in doubt, restoring a CWM flash backup and using Odin to reinstall a Samsung modem returns you back to square one.
Today is my second day on the NS4G KL2 radio. With EC05/FC09 and CM7, the GPS was flaky and often refused to lock but battery life was stellar: with CM9, GPS just flat didn't work and the radios sucked the battery >5% an hour on idle. With KL2, GPS locks in the same indoor location within 5 seconds and the battery usage looks equivalent to CM7's, which for me was the best of all ROMs for battery life.
