I'm running a rooted epic with Froyo EB13
with Baseband version EC05.
I'm not running a custom kernal
The phone every week will download the OTA update, it obviously wont install, I get the little red triangle after it begins a reboot.
I pull the battery and it reboots into CWM.
How do I get this to update?
Either reinstall all stock apps, and revert your baseband. Or just forget it and odin to ec05

Thanks Chris,
Do you know where I can retrieve the baseband from?

Don't waste your time - just Odin to EC05. OTAs suck anyway.

Have you watched qbking77's videos on "How to return to stock"?
No, you haven't. You still can though, and I would suggest that. They are great vids and easy to follow along to. You can pause, stop, even rewind them to keep up
All kidding aside, check them out. It will get you where you want.

You might wanna try to flash eb13 and after you use odin to flash to eb13, connect to wifi and manually update your software via ota to ec05. Go to settings and click about phone then system updates and select update android. This should get you back on ec05. I had the same problem when i wanted to go back to ec05. But i gotta say the second time i flashed ef02 all my functions that didnt work previously now work flawlessly. Although i did redownload the ef02 file again so maybe my original one was a bad download...Good luck to you...Dont forget to update us....

still didnt work...and idk if its just my epic but every rom ive tried the battery is off really bad...it would take me a half an hour just to go up 3%...also i backed up my stock 2.2.1 tw and i tried restoring it but it wouldnt restore through clockwork(i have the purple cwm)it would just stay on the samsung bootloader and vibrate constantly. I would have to use another rom just to fix it...i just want to restore it back to stock with root but i have yet to sucessfully achieve that....would appreciate that i looked at the videos but none showed how to restore back to stock

U might want to go back as far as d107 or d118, their eclair versions but u could update back to froyo using ota updating. In your case I would start from the bottom and work my way back up.

Ok so I'm currently on Gingerbread 2.3.6. My phone is rooted. I AM NOT USING ANY SORT OF ROM. I am on the stock T-mobile rom.
The only programs I have installed on it are Titanium backup. I have performed a backup using nandroid as well as TB.
My question to you all is: Is it safe to update to the OFFICIAL ICS when T-Mo rolls out with it on June 11th?
If so, do I have to unroot? Or can I just run the update when I hook up my phone and open KIES?
Help!
If you're running the stock ROM, you should be able to update without issue. You will almost certainly lose root, though. I'm hoping it only takes a day or so for someone to bang out a rooted, deodexed, etc. stock ICS ROM once the update is released.

I hope so too man. At last, T-Mo rolls out the update.
When I plug into KIES, I have another random update but I'm not going to do install it until June 12th.

You may need to flash the stock recovery via odin if you have CWM installed to update to ics

Install that lastest update b4 u update to ics. The update b4 ics is to prevent your phone from bricking when going thru the update process to ics.

Ok but will I need to revert back to anything? Like i said in my original post, I havent loaded any custom ROMS. I've only rooted the phone via ODIN.
It is okay to be rooted, but what Mr Knitty is asking is are you on the UVLDE build of gingerbread or the KL1? You need to be on the newer, updated UVLDE.

what exactly happens when you lose root? is it JUST that apps like titaniumbackup won't function as they won't have root access?

I tried connecting my phone to Kies after rooting and it says that a firmware update isn't supported on my device. In order for me to do anything in that regard, I'd have to unroot and then upgrade. If I were you, I'd just wait until Tmo pushes out the ICS update and when someone puts the rooted version out just install it. It will save you the trouble of having to unroot and root again just to get what your phone is already capable of getting via root.
Is there a thread for upgrading from a modded rom, like Juggernaut? Searched, but then again my eyes aren't the greatest. If I need the UVLDE update, how would I go about not bricking during such process? Sorry to intrude, just thought this was the closest thread to ask.

Theres a thread dedicated specifically to flashing the update. That thread covers every possible scenario. Look for the words flash, UVLDE, how to, and update in the titile. Its plain as day.
I think I got answer on my question in here.....
I didn't have to change back to stock recovery to update or unroot.
If on stock just flash the root file again through Odin and your good to go.
If your on a custom GB ROM. Just flash through Odin instead of Kies. Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1682955
Tmobile T989UVLDE
If coming from a leaked custom ICS ROM. I would use the super wipe and cache wipe. Then flash through Odin.
Of course back up everything with your preferred method.

*EDIT*-Nevermind, found what I was looking for. Just going to go back to stock, and wait it out.

dont worry
My phone its rooted just stock just to be able to use good apps like titanium addfree etc etc and when i update laat week did not gave me a problem so im thinking if u have stock rom just rooted i dont see a problem plus everyone here at xda wont let u down...trust me
What I would do, is just wait like 2 or 3 more days so someone can come out with a completely stock ICS. That way you don't have to worry about losing root

Pardon my ignorance but I'm still on stock rooted GB from sfhub original cwm flash. I have yet to take the plunge to ics because I don't want to flash to el26 to go to ics and all of this to prevent bricking my phone.* I thought I read once the official kernal is released this bug will not exist and this will not be necessary. I was just waiting for the official release to upgrade. It appears now that has / will be released today.
I have never used odin before but this looks like I don't have to worry about bricking my phone with it correct? I see that sfhub has a one click odin of FF18 with root. If I just want to upgrade I can just use the no data? If I want to start clean I guess I should factory reset then flash full data.?
My phone drives me insane with the phantom SMS bug that I still have.* Sometimes I have to reboot to find that I'm missing txt messages amd then the battery level just plunges. I also have a hard time getting a GPS lock. I'm hoping this update helps.

That is correct you can use the one-click to update and it's known to be safe. just don't unplug the cable until the phone reboots. also have you thought about upgrading your modem? there are flashable zips. I'm running the FF18 modem and its working better than the stock EL29 modem. I wanted to wait for the upgrade, but i went ahead and flashed an ICS rom yesterday.
Now that the source is released does this mean the emmc bug is to be removed and it will be safer to flash more ics / asop roms?

It appears that way. I know reading yesterday that they are working on it. With the source code they can fix/modify the eMMC issue.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
Looks like they fixed it. but it can only be used for TW based roms

You can ODIN FF18 over anything on the phone. The No Data package will be just like the OTA except for root. But if you can stand to back some stuff up you will have a lot less trouble with a full wipe. OTA users themselves experience a minimum of a hassle and a maximum of hair pulling and doing no data will be the same. Easiest problem is needing to clear data for swype to get that to work but random reboots can be another issue if taking the OTA or doing a No Data odin from there to here.

Does anyone know the latest official rom version number that unrooted people should be running?
I need to take my phone in to the Sprint repair shop and want to flash to the latest stock before I hand them my device so they can't say anything and I'd rather not restore my EL29 nandroid and go through all the ota updates as I imagine that would take forever...
