Hi Everyone,
Recently wiped the KF of all data and am trying to get a ROM back on the device. I managed to get the ROM loaded into the /system folder on my KF, but when I try to mount I get the error:
"unknown volume for path [/ics.zip]" followed by "Can't mount /ics.zip"
Any help would be appreciated.
So you are trying to flash a new rom? Because I'm not sure what "mounting a rom" is

The method of flashing a rom place rom zip and gapps zip on your sd card make a backup in twrp then go to wipe wipe factory reset wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe system go to install flash rom zip flash gapps zip then reboot select system if prompted
It appears that in my frustration I did not explain the predicament well. Basically, in TWRP you can click "install," find your ROM, and flash from there. I've done this several times before, running both ICS and JB successfully. I wanted to wipe the data from the KF so I could sell it, accidentally deleting my clean backup in the process. Now, after pushing a ROM to the device through ADB, I get the aforementioned error when trying to flash a ROM through TWRP. Please let me know if anything else isn't clear about my question; I could really use some help!

Try placing the ROM on the sdcard rather than the root folder or system folder.

Thank you! I don't remember reading about this critical piece of information during previous installations, but then, I never had to manually push a ROM to the hardware on a blank system before. Pushing the ROM to the sdcard worked like a charm.

Delete the PC10IMG off of your SDcard....
And you're posting in the wrong section. This is for DEVELOPMENT.
sorry... can i move this?
how can i remove that .zip file, only with an mini sdcard convertor to my laptop?
If you have adb set up then type:
adb reboot recovery
this will reboot your phone into recovery and then you can flash a backup or a new rom to boot up.
hope this helps and good luck!

Could always just boot into your ROM and USB mass storage then remove it. Or take the card out and put it in a PC and delete it.
Or if you have the SDK you can /adb rm <file> . or /adb reboot recovery .
thnx for the fast replys and the feedback!!

After wiping everything you rebooted with nothing in your /system, /boot, /data partitions so how can you expect to see anything except a white screen.
Its not written anywhere in the guide to reboot at the 2nd step.
Delete PC10IMG.zip from your sdcard as suggested above and reboot into recovery via bootloader.
And follow the steps exactly as stated.

Why did you post your question in this thread? - it has NOTHING to do with Android Development!!!
Next time post/ask in the General Questions thread if you have issue like this.
P.S. Run Rom Manager and download/run Virtuous ril Automatcher to fix ril issue.
You better delete or move this thread asap before the ROM Mistress finds this or you will get a nice infraction
sorry for misplacing the thread,
but your suggestions doesnt solve my problem, as soon i match the ril with the latest radio, dataconnection doesnt work anymore
if i goto the APN settings, i get an error about missing sim card
so only an older radio with older ril works
or the latest radio with older ril works also, but not that good...
doesnt mather if i use ril matcher or manual overwrite...
dont use ril matcher for me it just bugs out everything, which is also why the thread was closed..
Make sure you have the right radio for your area. Some areas don't like certain radios. Also, its better to have a T-mobile us radio for the G2 and the Desire Z with the other ones.
When you wipe all data and system, you've wiped the rom off the Phone so expect it NOT to start up to anything but that white screen.
Make sure you always remove the PCIMG w.e folder at all times if youre not a adb user ,to get to the recovery . Common sense, place it in a memory card slot for your computer or some other device and just delete it.
And yeah, you should've posted this in the Q&A section.
Good luck.

So I rooted and immediately did a nandroid back up. I was messing around with some themes and got stuck in a bootloop. No biggie, I went into clockwork to restore and oh crap! I guess the nandroid didnt save on the SD Card and must have saved it in /system. How can I navigate there and move the nandroid to sd card so i can restore?
Boot into cwm then navigate to mounts and storage and mount usb to pc. Hopefully you can find your backup.
tried that but it only mounts the sdcard, and the backup is not there. It must be in system but I am not sure how to navigate or browse there to pull it off.
Hey Didact74 did you find a solution? I tried to rack my brain but couldn't think of a easy way out.
someone smarter than me would have to chime in, but a long way to go about it is to flash a new ROM so you can mount usb storage from android OS. this should allow you to view both SDcards. If that doesnt work then use adb shell.
adb shell...cd system....ls system ( to list what's on there)...also try to ls sdcard
then do a pull
Try looking in /emmc/ or I am pretty sure CWM has an option for internal sd.

Also what steps did you take to root/add recovery.
You probably did do the nandroid backup but that CWM version was using external (or internal) and the new CWM version you now have is looking in the other location.
I suggest you ODIN chris41g's CWM5 repack from here
It is able to see both internal and external SD.
Your flash count will go up by 1 and you'll get the yellow triangle, but those can be "fixed" with USB jig.

Hi guys, I have an ATT samsung galaxy SIII, and I have just followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426, and I have done everything up to booting into recovery correct (as far as I know of)
My ultimate goal is to flash CM10 onto my phone safely, and to have a backup in case anything goes wrong.
The options in recovery include
-Reboot system now
-apply update from external storage
-wipe date/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-apply update from cache
I'm honestly lost and don't know where to go from here to flash CM10 onto my phone, sorry if I'm such a novice, but i will surely get it if someone can help me out or point me to a good guide.
Thanks for reading, please help!
I assume you are rooted and on a stock ICS ROM? If so , go into backup and restore and hit backup. After that you will need to download cm10 and put it in the root of your SD card or anywhere easy to find you will also need a zip of Google apps. then you do factory reset wipe cache and wipe dalvike and you go into flash a zip and flash your ROM and your gapps and its done

Start by going in the play store download ROM manager and install clockworkmod recovery on your phone cause you have the stock recovery
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Yes I am on stock ICS rom. I followed the top guide and when it got to the clockwork mod rom part I sort of got lost. It says
Third, (optional)
To get clockworkmod recovery loaded so you can flash whatever you want, nandroid, etc then continue on....
Once rebooted you can grab a universal recovery that works on all sgs3 LTE variants from here:
if you download this recovery you will need to extract this file (if you have issues extracting try removing the .md5 extension first) to get a recovery.img file and copy to your phone's internal /sdcard
However if you have the ATT model (not sure if this will work on Bell, Telus, Rogers, etc.), this recovery will see the extSdCard and seems better for our devices:
For ATT models use either this recovery or this touch recovery.
Can I use airdroid to put the recovery img file on my sd card? I don't understand the "this recovery will see the extSdCard part?
Thanks
It just means you can access you external sdcard from the recovery

If it is not working try this:
Download cwm recovery touch there
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Place it at the root of your sdcard and rename it recovery.IMG
Download terminal emulator from the play store
To Flash ClockworkMod Recovery: Have the recovery image on the internal memory...name as "recovery.img"
Download Android Terminal Emulator from the Play Store, have the recovery image on the internal memory, run:
Once in the terminal type: su (press enter)
Then type: dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 (press enter)
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
So let me make sure I have this straight:
I just drag and drop the recovery .img file onto my sd card.
Then go into terminal emulator and do the command he says to do
Then I use the clockwork mod app and I can flash CM10 onto my phone with the GAPPS
Thanks so much for helping me out btw
Yes for the first part but after you have done what I've told you reboot into recovery ( be sure to have the ROM you wanna flash on your SD card)
To boot in recovery shutdown the phone then hold volume up + menu and while you hold them press power till the phone shakes
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Well I definately messed something up. I flashed two nights ago, then I got an update for my phone (ATT 80 mb update), and apparently lost my root. So I tried re-rooting with odin, and when it rebooted I got an
"unfortunately, android.process.acore has stopped working"
So I looked it up, and someone said to do a full wipe, so I went into recovery mode and did a full data wipe, rebooted my phone, and reflashed it with odin, and the problem has persisted. Does anyone know what to do in order to fix this?
Thanks
Do wipe data/ factory reset, go in mount and format system and data, wipe dalvik cache and flash a new rom

So it's a little different from just selling it to a stranger because I don't want to just wipe everything clean. (as in return it to factory state, unrooted etc.)
I have CM10 running on the phone and I want to keep it rooted and running CM10, I just want to wipe all traces of my Google accounts and apps/data/messages/settings + also get rid of things like nandroid backup, media files, pics etc on the "sd card" directory.
If I select 'factory data reset' under settings - backup & reset in CM10, will it
1) keep CM10/root?
2) erase everything on the SD including nandroid backup, other files on the SD etc.
Thanks.

1) CM10 will be kept, but root may not be working then you only have to flash the su.zip again from recovery
2) SD card should not be affected so basically just delete the data you want to delete from it using any file manager app
Actually I like to do such things from recovery so considering you want the phone as clean as possible, then you may follow the following steps if you wish:
1) Do Full wipe from recovery
2) Install CM10
3) Install Gapps (I assume your family member will definitely need Play Store at least )
4) Install su.zip for root
5) Reboot and do not enter your google account in the startup wizard, just skip it.
Then you should have a rooted CM10 with Gapps and ready for your family member Gmail account
You're making it more complicated than needed.
1. Plug the phone to usb (or use a file manager app)
2. Delete all the folders that you don't want (or cut them for your phone to your computer to back up pictures or whatever it may be)
3. Go into recovery and wipe: dalvik, factory, cache
4. Optional: re flash rom (to latest cm), with kernel.
5. Done.

Oh yeah and I forgot flash gapps. You won't need to flash su.zip because superuser.apk is already included with cm10 as well as every other custom rom.
All superuser is a apk. Hence su.zip flashes superuser.apk into /system/apps/

You can copy to internal storage
@mohancm I followed the steps exactly as mentioned here, did everything from scratch, even tried factory reset, but still can't get to detect internal storage. Settings shows that there is Internal Shared storage, even in recovery internal storage can be accessed. But only in system can't access it, used 3rd party file managers also.

Use nvram and nvdata backup of mohancm. But you'll need your own IMEI for sim to work. Follow this for custom ROM.
