Difference between AOSP roms and "stock" roms? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The only thing I noticed for AOSP roms is that it's usually a CM ROM, and it's about half the size as a normal rom (120ish mb vs 240ish mb), and it has no GAPPS built in.
I know that aosp stands for android open source project, but I have no idea what that means.

I'm no expert but my understanding is that it implies the rom is based on "vanilla" aka stock android sources as opposed to an HTC sense experience or touch wiz manufacturer altered rom

then whats the difference between aosp and vanilla rom?

help sence rom

I have a very simple question that I am not sure about.. what is a since Rom?
A Sense ROM is based of the stock software and still has all or most of the features that came with the phone. Myn's, Fresh, Mik are all Sense ROMs.
AOSP ROMs are ROMs based off Android source code and don't have Sense at all, like CyanogenMod and MIUI.
Here's a semi useful link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Sense
A Sense rom is out of the box, HTC set up, with HTC apps, ect. Sense is HTC's personal user interface style for Android.
Okay sounds good cause I just wanted to make sure I thou it was stock Rom but custom roms are sence to so is vins plutonium Rom sence?

Yea, Virus roms are custom Sense based roms.

[Q] Sense ROM

Do you think Cyanogen would bring out a sense ui rom rather than implementing some sort of sense touch to its roms?
Cyanogen is specifically only for AOSP rom's there is no chance that he will come out with a sense rom and also if you want the design of sense rom's you can use different widgets to achieve that.
Yeah, Sense is not what CM is about. And that is why there are a variety of ROMs from various chefs. If you want Sense, flash a ROM that has it.

[Q] Question about AOSP roms please.

Hi guys, ive been trying to find AOSP roms for the Desire but seems they are in much less numbers than sense roms.
Are AOSP roms a good option? Do they provide better performance than sense ones, and is there any AOSP rom that keeps getting updates and support Data2SD? Thank you very much.
I think that there are less AOSP ROMs because most people want Sense.
But usually, AOSP ROMs gives better performace, battery life and are more stable, since they don't have all the extra stuuf that is includad in Sense.
They are the best option IMO if you can live without Sense.
AOSP ROMs are made directly form Android source code (Redux, Oxygen, dGB, Devnull) or CM and the ROMs based on it (as for example GingerVillain, or MIUI, which at least was based on CM7 in its first versions)
About Data2sd, the only ROM that have it included is MIUI XJ XPart, but I think it would be possible to manually add the D2SD script to any ROM
Everything he said I switched over from sense and will never look back, you get better performance, better customizing of the RoM, MIUI has a built in theme manager witch let's you change everything you want. Better battery life not having sense killing battery.
You dont like you can always go back to sense
Since i have rooted my desire i only have used AOSP roms, great roms are Oxygen, CM7, GingerVillain
Now i am on GingerVillain it has support to Data2SD, It has OTA (Villain Setup Application) updates for various stuff of the rom, and with the 3.1 HAVS 1113Mhz + CFS kernel installed through OTA the battery lasts 2-3 days.

[Q] Jelly Beam From google source? (vanilla AOSP)

What about building JB or ICS from source for DesireZ?
I remember virtuous quattro was an ICS rom build from vanilla AOSP. It was faster and cleaner than CM9 based rom.
I think a pure aosp build of JB or ICS with new drivers it would speed up a lot these new android version on our devices.
I'm ready leave all CM feature for a pure google AOSP with some speed.
I think you'll probably still need all the tweaks that the andromedus team has done to make it a dd

I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605016 and I'm very happy with it - 4.1.2 but also has goodies that you need anyway. Clean source ROM would nice though - just to try it out I agree - but I personally would miss a lot of stuff.

Porting TouchWiz S-Apps to Lineage

What all is needed to port the Touchwiz Camera and S-Apps to AOSP/Lineage OS? I know I need the framework apk and I think the framework-res apk, but is there anything else? What about the kernel? What is in a TouchWiz kernel that makes it specifically TouchWiz?
My end goal is to build a Lineage based rom but with TouchWiz and fully functioning S-Pen apps and Samsung camera. Before anyone says it, the reason I don't just flash a TouchWiz rom is that this is more or less an experiment. I want to make a super lightweight rom with excellent battery life and all the features that I bought the phone for in the first place. I am currently running Modest (shoutout to kevintm78!) which is TW based but I want to try a different approach.
