Anyone Else Not Seeing Attached Thumbnails?? - About xda-developers.com

I don't know why but all of a sudden, within the last few days, I can't see attached thumbnails, on any browser I try on my computer for this site.
Everything is updated, this is a custom built super 'puter! lol

It's just the weirdest thing that I can't fix....
I don't like things that I can't fix lol

If you turn off NoScript, do you see them?
Try to allow *.xda-developers.com for your Javascript.

I'll give that a shot. Oddly, sometimes if I refresh the page they show up... sometimes

I also can't see any attachments for any threads. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago (or so). I figured it was just me but I see that it is still happening. I'm using Chrome.

I'm having the same problem, also using Chrome. Anybody figure out a fix for this?
Edit:
AdBlockPlus was doing it

Thanks geniustheanimal.
I added forum.xda-developers.com to the whitelist in Adblock Plus and now it works!

But Firefox won't show bbcode explicitly to edit.
I mean when you quote a post with image.. it won't give image link.. but it will show image itself.. ie acts the same way:banghead::banghead:
I tried settings.. but couldn't find how to make it show bbcode

Disable wysiwyg in xda settings and you'll be able to see those, also there's a toggle button to switch the editor mode in ffox when posting a reply. That's the plus side of using something other than chrome, wysiwyg does not work on chrome without an extension. I prefer chrome though.

If I am not mistaken that problem exists only when we set xda to "xda 2013 beta" format at the bottom. I think all other display formats, including "xda 2013 beta-1024", work okay.

Yup it happens only with the 2013 theme, i don't use the 1024 version. Also switching between themes when that happens will temporarily fix it. But it's a pita to do that always.

Removal of some very irritating features

Hello I just joined xda developers and immediatly noticed something very irritating >
1. The capcha before posts - a capcha at signup is enough for most people , aren't u guys a little too paranoid.
2. Quick reply options in threads and removal of the title bar for posts - haven't yet seen even one post which uses a title bar in 5 hours
captcha needed to stop spammers

If you saw the amount of spam that manages to slip through then you would see why the captcha is still necessary for a time after signing up. It should stop after your next couple of posts however.
Unfortunately people are sometimes in too much of a hurry to type a title in for posts and the titles don't show in the XDA app, but they are still important to keep and use.
Captcha's unreadable
It is nice to know that the captcha's go away eventually. I have seen other forums that have been entirely taken over by spam-bots, so I understand the need, but the captcha's in use on this site are about 90% unreadable. I mean literally unreadable, the text is clipped so that only a corner of one of the letters is visible. I have to click the next captcha button on an average of 5 times bfore getting to one that I think I MIGHT know what it says...
P.S. This is a wonderful example of that, I tried to post this without the PS, and it turns out I was not correctly reading the captcha. This one looks a little better, so here is hoping...

But as the quoted text says capchas are very much unreadable and some simple math instead of the capcha would be great

Seriously? So you'd prefer having to go to a post, click 'quote', be taken to a separate page to type your reply (on which you won't be able to scroll through the thread gathering info or whatever for your reply), clicking post and then being redirected back to the page again causing it to refresh? Quick reply is fast and handy (hence the name).
As for the title bar, you've got to be kidding me. I don't think it even deserves an explanation.

The fact that their are captchas really isn't the problem. It is that they really are almost 90-95% unreadable. I have had some captcha pop up that literally was just the bottom corner of a letter and that was it during registration. I had to refresh about 20 times before I found one that I could sorta read.

Maybe its a problem with Firefox then? Do You have installed some add-ons that could block the quick reply?
For me the quick reply works perfect on pc(chrome) and my stock HTC one s browser. And I'm using the 2013 theme as well, so the theme would not be the probleme I think.
Why don't you try some other browsers like opera, chrome or safari ?
And you could reply back here on this thread or tell an admin if it is a problem with Firefox, and maybe its getting fixed then.

That's true, but in a mobile community where most US US are using the smartphone and the creepy autocorrect or our fingers are doing mistakes, I guess at least the edit function should be allowed without waiting 5 minutes. Any word posted mistakenly here can be seen at least 10 times in 5 minutes (and there is judge chance to get a reply with quote and the mistake will be visible forever)

The reason it is not allowed is that spammers would use it to add links that they would not have been able to include in the original post. I know it is a pain, but "read twice, post once".

Problem with XDA site "is blinking"

Hello i have a problem just with xda i've already checked different possibilities.
I have internet 100mb/s and since around a week when i click of shortcut of xda the site loads in a second and when everything is on it blinks
once and loads everything again.
This is annoying because let's say i want to jump to any section it's like the site loads actually twice is already loaded in secons and then blinks and loads again.
Has anyone expirenced something like that before because this thing is happening to me just on xda-developers.
it's weird and annoying!!
Any ideas or suggestions???

yes i have seen this on my friends computer which is with chrome, Firefox, ie and windows 64 bit.. but on mine it works fine which has both xp and Ubuntu 11.10 both chrome browser is fine... i think its due to any extensions used with your browser.. can you say what extensions you use? and can you remember which extension/ add-on to browser did you add in between this auto refresh after complete loading happens?
and for temporary workaround.. you can use "Esc" button when it is almost loaded... so it wont fully load the page and hence it wont reload the page..

Same issue here but only on Firefox.
I'm on chrome win7 64bit but on win 8 everything is OK.
The weird thing is that i've got this problem since couple days ,everything was OK before.
99% of the time, this is an extension like NoScript...
XDA needs javascript to run, given much of the core functionality of vBulletin uses client-side scripts.
If I use noscript in Firefox, the site will continually refresh until disabled.

well, as long as I don't log in I can surf XDA with noscript with no problem. If I log in it refresh every couple of seconds. It's the only website that behave like that. It's definetely a bug, that I hope someone will take care of.
Edit: refresh disappear if I disable googleapi, but then main menu dropdowns do not work any more.

DevDB uploader broken?

Is the DevDB uploader broken right now? I've been trying to upload a new build of my ROM for a few hours and every time it fails at the verification step. Not sure where to post this kind of thing but this seems like the most appropriate place; if not, feel free to move my post. Thanks!
Edit: took a look at the javascript console and it seems like the torrent creation script is throwing a 500 error, if that helps at all.

Hi iofthestorm
Found the same behaviour on my thread (not DevDB).
I've noticed that 500 is raised over attachments (images too) only when using desktop browsers. Control panel shows my attachment but it's not accessible. Tested with: Crhome, FireFox and IE ... logged and as anonymous ... same 500.
But, browsing the same thread with xda-app shows up perfectly.
Weird!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Had an issue on the devdb file server the other day and it looks like when things came back up the MySQL server didn't start properly which prevented new uploads. This is now fixed and I've tested it, so let me know if you still see any issues with it.

This is a separate issue - it seems like the thumbnail wasn't created properly, but if you click on the file the actual attachment was created properly. I'm going to do some testing to see what is causing that problem.

I redid the downloads server a week or so ago, there are some new security measures in place and that is probably what caused the not-authorized error for you. I just downloaded one of your old files and re-uploaded it without issue. Can you let me know what browser you are using, or if there are any extensions that might be blocking in?

Thanks, the plugins are probably doing it. I use unbranded FireFox (IceWeasel) with the NoScript plugin (although xda has been allowed for a long time - I may need to whitelist something else, or use Chromium/Chrome).
UPDATE: it appears that Chrome is handling uploading fine (Chromium was a bust due to the lack of Shockwave Flash support, as the Upload button was dead). Is there a predictable server for the authorization I could whitelist back in IceWeasel - that way I don't have to switch browsers? (Seems that the authorizing server loads at the last moment, preventing me from determining it's name.)

Disabled open in a new tab by scroll-wheel click

I don't know why but such useful browser feature doesn't really work on XDA-Developers forums. For example I see a itneresting new on the right side widget. I middle mouse button click it, but it won't open in a new tab, but instead it will open in the current tab just like I would left click it. I can give you numbers of similiar behaviours like that over the xda. That's really annoying.
Why is that happening and are you guys ever going to fix it?

Suggest you try an alternate browser.
Also try a fresh profile in case something in your current profile is the cause.
Its not working for me can you suggest me an other way ?
Does it still work correctly on other sites?
Not a Chrome user so can't really help with it.
General troubleshooting though. Try other sites. Try a clean profile.
Try other tools with the problem site.

It does work correctly on every other website. There's no "clean profile" option in chrome and I have no idea what do you mean by "other tools".
This issue happens with particular stuff, like the widget with the news on the right side of the thread view.

I'd actually would prefer to use the old theme either way so I could use Dark XDA Stylish theme by @GermainZ as for me it looks much better. Just a presonal preference.

We had additional google analytics code on those links, my guess is that was blocking the open in new tab option. We made this change a long time ago so this must have been long-standing.

XDA Forums keeps logging me in??

I'm experiencing a strange issue with XDA and it's forums. I'll click the XDA forum link on my bookmark bar (Chrome or Opera) and I will be auto logged in, so that's great. But if I click to go to any different page in XDA, it keeps re-logging me back in instead of remembering that I just did that.
Does anyone know a fix for this as it's quite annoying.
Thank you
Do you allow cookies by XDA?

I have already reported this issue on December 13th directly to the admins, I didn't get any answer, so I bumped the report internally just now. I will let you know if they answer.
Thank you for that Wood Man.

They replied to me this below:
That's a limitation of our API...everytime you load a page, it has to "reach out" to our API to figure out if you have new notifications. But the team here says they're working on a fix to store this info locally so there is no delay :highfive:

Thanks for the follow up. Did they mention if this was a new thing as I have only started to experience this issue a few weeks back. But all through last year, this wasn't a problem, I'd log in and it would not ask me again unless I logged myself out.

They didn't mention it but I can assure you it started when the new header has been updated for 2015 themes. I have tested and this login issue doesn't exist with other xda themes, e.g. 2013 theme.
Edit: the new forum header has been changed for 2015 themes at the very beginning of December (around December 5th)
Same here... Logging in all the time. Very annoying.

XDA get you get this fixed.. I hated this annoying bug! It annoys me to the max.
Edit: disabling Pricavy Badger & uBlock didn't fix it.
I think you should completely wipe out your browser history and delete cookies too. Re-launch your browser and check. It should be working fine.
Does anyone solve this problem?

So I wiped browser history and deleted cookies and relaunched both browsers.
Still experiencing the same issue.

Then you might have to re-install the Browser. Make sure to save your bookmarks in a file first.
I also have this problem and can confirm that changing the theme from 2015 Dark to 2013 fix the annoying "Redirecting..." issue.
Hope that it will be fixed for the Dark theme, too, because 2013' looks so old now!

This issue should be now fixed for 2015 theme. At least it's now OK on my end.
