[MOD] 3G TurboCharger by zeppelinrox - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

As the title suggests this is a 3G Mod by http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3357461 It's is zeppelinrox's work, so you can thank and donate to him.
I'm sharing this here because I have recently acquired a Verizon CDMA Galaxy Nexus, which I love, but because i live in a rural area, my 3G has suffered a bit. I could not find anything else that compares to 3G TurboCharger. If there's a thread about this in here, moderator feel free to delete this.
Disclaimer: yada yada yada...you're responsible for what you do to your phone.
Things you need:
1) Script Manager (SManager ads) from the play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm9zLnRvb2xzLnNjcmlwdG1hbmFnZXIiXQ..
2) The Magic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021 Link for 3GTurboCharger_Installer_Update_3_RC11_Test_1.sh.pdf BTW right click on the DL link and "Save As" to your pc then transfer to your sdcard.
How do I work this 3G voodoo stuff ?
I don't know anything about anything..so if I can do this, you can!
1) Download Script Manager and install in your device
2) Download the script to your favorite folder. Remember this is the file you want --> 3GTurboCharger_Installer_Update_3_RC11_Test_1.sh.pdf DO NOT OPEN IT! It DOESNT install via CWM or any other recovery.
3) Open the Script Manager

6) A menu will appear. I picked 4, you pick what you like. Remember yada yada yada.. you break your device it's your fault. :cyclops:
Read the instruction on the screen menu. Remember to make your pick you have to touch the screen so the keyboard pops up, make your pick, then press enter and bingo!
7) Reboot.. option 12
8) cue angelic music.......Hallelujah! :angel:
Please remember..this works for me so it doesn't necessarily mean that it will work for you and like I said you may thank zeppelinrox :highfive:
FAQ
Q. Will this work on my toaster ?
A. I dunno but it works on my Verizon CDMA (sim card) Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Q What's the difference in dBm ?
A. I went from -120 (basement) -100 (upstairs) to -120 (basement...it's the basement what did you expect ? ) -93 (upstairs) It may not be alot... but it's a significantly higher for me. As a matter of fact.. I don't have any issues getting into google or xda anymore. Yay me! :silly:
Q How do I uninstall this thing?
A. Option 8 in the menu

Doesn't do anything for signal. It adds tweaks to the build.prop and some other things. I haven't used it in a while and I might need to start again. Sprint 3G is terrible for me. It did help me quite a bit. However some people think this is all placebo.

no, editing your build.prop via app or flashing instead of manually editing it does not resemble development. this belongs in general.

i followed this steps carefully
but why my value is 32/28/9 Upload First?
i try it again and again
im always end up to 32/28/9, Upload First
i want 32/28/9, Download First not Upload First
What should i do?

First of all:
DO NOT EVEN DARE COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING NOT WORKING OR IT FORCE CLOSING IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS POST
Second (ye olde cyanogen's mega awesome disclaimer):
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or the current economic crisis. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this system app before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modificiations, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
Ok, now that's over and done with
Description:
This is the GS3 touchwiz launcher, rescaled to work with the Nexus' stock density/resolution, and with an extra homescreen row added to take advantage of the 720p display. It's pretty smooth, Samsung have done a pretty good job
I'm going to be away for a while, moving to Europe to hopefully find a job in my field (if you guys know anyone looking for game artists, please foward them on to my portfolio ) So I probably won't be able to continue work on this until I get settled somewhere. I know Madphone will continue working on it for his TW addon pack, if people are interested in getting the widgets working etc.
Thanks everyone for your support and everything, has been much appreciated
Installation Instructions:
Flash TW5launcher.zip in recovery. Tested in CWM, experiences may vary in other recoveries.
Download Link:
http://multiupload.biz/0rjhd04oyh7i/TW5launcher_MultiUpload.biz.zip.html
Known Bugs:
- Wallpaper picker options don't work properly. This is because most of the options rely on the more system side components of touchwiz - for now, just use the "set wallpaper for homescreen option"
-Bottom Icon Row is cut off in landscape mode
-Wallpaper doesn't scroll (looking into it - It's meant to not scroll by stock, but I don't think it would be a bad feature to have, depending on performance impact.) Decided to keep it unscrolling for performance reasons.
Do i need to flash it? Or can i just push in to system/app ??

This!
But he does have a good point, you can push to system/app, but you will probably still have to install the app over the top of it to get it to work. I just listed the most foolproof way I could think of in order to decrease the likelyhood of people complaining about having problems by not doing it properly (ie. pushing to system/app, but not setting the correct permissions).
I'll update the OP in a second.

It worked fine by pushing it + setting the permissions. Thanks...
Since I have a stock recovery I tried the "copy to system/app, mess with permissions and clear stock launcher defaults" method and it works as well as can be expected since we are missing some of the SGS3 framework.
The Lightflow bug that makes Google books read aloud makes changing desktops talk to you which is kind of funny.
Love ya work as this seems to be good enough to use everyday. Touchwiz was never that bad but it's nice to have the choice on a Nexus device.
Edit: Just noticed in landscape it chops the bottom line of icons off. Not a complaint but if it's an easy fix?...please?

Got it to work just fine. Created folders in the dock, every time I open and close them, I get a voice notification saying "folder open, folder close" kind of annoying. Have to play with the settings to get it shut off

Nice work
Since I am non-rooted on the Nexus, I just installed the .apk file (as in NOT fully following the instructions, I am aware of that).
Trying to add widgets but got the permission thingy, rest works nice and looks awsome, nice work mate!
Thx for this. An excellent performing launcher as smooth as I've seen ever on the GN. I can't get it to work though through a reboot. Using the instructions verbatim or not. Still super cool to play with!
How do you get it to stfu? I don't need voice clarification when opening folders and stuff

[APP] Cell Broadcasts - Emergency Alert System

My biggest hold back on installing CM10 or AOKP was the lack of Cell Broadcasts built in. But low an behold I was able to restore it from a Titanium Backup. I figured I'd go ahead and share it here for all. And maybe for myself if I ever lose it!
This for sure installed on AOKP. At least it installed, I'll have to wait until Wednesday when they do the test to confirm it works.
To install (this is old, the link at bottom has a flashable zip.):
1. Copy the "CellBroadcastReceiver.apk" into "/system/app"
2. Change the permissions to "rw- r-- r--"
3. Restart
It wont be a normal app, but it should appear under Settings --> More... --> Cell broadcasts

It may not be for everyone. But for me, in Arkansas, I find it useful for Tornado warnings. The AMBER alerts are good too. Apps use data and GPS, thus killing your battery. This is a more stable system than some app. Most of the time my phone's WiFi is connected to some shoddy open Linksys router and in and out of proper data service anyway.
Cell Broadcast is like receiving a free text. Good for those on limited data plans, or those that need to be safe!

I think this was standard on the STOCK build, I can not remember since I rooted and flashed CM10 nearly the same day I got the phone. The point of this as the OP states is that once you flash CM10 you lose this functionality. He provided a way to recover that functionality.
Why does this get stripped out when they build the ROMs? I can't imagine anyone actually thinking it'd be a good idea to remove this, is it an oversight?
Cell broadcasts are true broadcasts, so there are no network overload issues when sending them out.
And they work as soon as there is coverage. If you are roaming somewhere without data, the broadcasts will still work.
Doesn't Google Now have something like this built in?
"Public Alerts" card? ... I do remember when a hurricane was coming to NYC, I never received any alerts. Although I was told by some people, it was in text messages.
Thanks to the OP for the app, obviously some people wanted it.
I find this funny though because my parents and I spent xmas weekend trying to figure out how to turn this crap off on their iphones, never did find a way, fortunately my n4 (stock at the time) did not have this annoyance.
This should be a flashable zip, with an addon.d script to keep it alive between ROM updates. I suppose I'll make a zip for myself.

Since Roam Control seems to be defunct should we offer a bounty

It seems roam control is defunct (based on lack of basic response and updates), but I see no reason reason another developer could not step in and offer a viable replacement. Should we put together a bounty and hope to entice a developer to design a replacement app? I am sure their are enough sprint users that would kick in.
I agree. Anyone interested?

I havnt even really seen a whole lot of talk about it.. I wish there would be some headway on this. There's been some change in the past two days that leaves me with 0 signal in my office and, of course, it won't stay on roaming and keeps bouncing back and forth. I don't know if they're having issues at this one tower, or if they have changed the direction of the antenna, or what.
I was looking for this as well to get my phone to force roam in places I got bad service. I had the app on my EVo, and EVo 3D and got spoiled. My service sucks at work and home even with the Airrave. This is what I did and it works for me.
- download this Hidden Menu apk View attachment HiddenMenu_No_Root.apk and install it
- download this zip View attachment Modded_VZW_PRLs.zip
- Once you download the Modded Verizon Zip. Extract the files. Rename the PRL that says 00002 to Test.prl. (Feel free to try other PRL's. Just posting what works for me). Use Move or Copy (My Files stock app, Astro, or whatever you use) to put Test.Prl on root of Sd Card, (not ext card).
- Once its on the root of the SDCard storage turn off your wifi, and your data.
- click on the Hideen Menu app (apk) you downloaded and installed already
- tap launch settings> ##DATA#Menu>View>PRL Write.
- After you tap PRL Write the phone should reboot.
- After reboot Tap Menu>System Settings>About Phone>Status and you should see this below
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

PRL should show 2
If it does you are now roaming. If it doesnt. Then try again. It usually works if data and wifi is off. If your looking to go back to Sprint. Just update your PRL the normal way. This wouldnt be considered "on the fly" like the roaming app, (without a reboot) but its fast, close enough and does the job for ME. If this is a repeat of what everyone already knew, ignore this obviously. This is for ppl that may not know or the search button isnt working for you.... I'm using Jelly Bomb btw. I know it doesnt work on AOSP Roms. Dont know about the others.
**I'm sure everyone knows the consequences for roaming too much on Sprint. I actually had my account terminated before for the same. Which in my case worked out. They terminated the contract but not my line, phone number or account so I was able to come back as a new account. May have got lucky. Dunno & dont want to find out. I try to use it just AS NEEDED and go easy on the DATA roaming as well. I monitor my bills just to be sure.. Dont get lazy and leave it roaming all day everyday because your content with having service everywhere like I did. Take it off when in places you have Sprint service.
Hope this helps
So................ I am in the middle of building my MC2 H20 ROM and I will see about putting this in my ROM maybe as a toggle option in the dropdown, and in settings. I will see what time permits. If I finish the rom before this is complete I will focus on this.

[APP]Sprint Diagnostics [Work In Progress]-update profile on AOSP!!!!!!

Installation Instructions:
1. Delete sprintmenu.apk in system/app with a root browser (make sure system is RW and you have root access with your browser)
2. push the sprintmenu.apk to system/app
3. set permissions to 0644 (screenshot below)or rw-r--r--
4. reboot into recovery
5. wipe dalvik cache
6. reboot
Now you will have an Update Profile option in settings/about phone/sprint system updates.
Press update, it will make a phone call, just let it go until it hangs up automatically, done... Profile updated. Also check your app drawer for Sprint Diagnostics. This still needs a lot of testing and feedback. Some of the features do not work yet, I pulled some of the code from another device and I need to program this device's codes (most of which I still need to look up) on because they are not the same, be patient, it's a work in progress. A big thanks to bigdogrush from the GNex forums for pioneering this!
SprintMenu.apk:
http://d-h.st/htg
***Any option that force closes the app is not implemented yet, THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS ***
And yes we are looking into getting this working on TouchWiz, please don't ask... we're not holding out on you guys.
Working:
-Update Profile (Not in the Sprint Diagnostics app... Go to Settings/About Phone/Sprint System Updates)
-MSL Grabber
-?????

ROM Toolbox Root Browser or ES File Explorer, long click, go to permissions (Properties then Permissions on ES File Explorer), set like this... You also need to reboot after changing permissions
Very small apk, it must be called from something else.
Would you mind posting that screenshot I saw from the other thread here please?
No luck on TW. Meaning there is no new app in app drawer for me to test.
I see in the instructions that this is accessed from systems update in settings menu.
Have you tried PRL replacement yet? That is what I am really interested in.

I see in the instructions that this is accessed from systems update in settings menu.
Have you tried PRL replacement yet? That is what I am really interested in.
Edit: TeamEOS link, looks interesting:

No not yet, like I said this needs a lot of testing and feedback, I don't remember if this is the full version I have or not, I'm preparing my ROM for release now, I'll look into TW after I get the OP and everything done.
OK everything is now included in my new ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40653604
Every Sprint PRL and tons of info located here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880781
MSL grabber confirmed working on multiple E4GTs on AOSP
I don't really even use any of this stuff, I live in a great coverage area now and I'm usually on WiFi so I'll try to get all these features working but I won't be doing much testing, I will leave that up to those who wish to play with it... But we are always interested to hear results. Any option that force closes isn't implemented yet. I will be updating this when I get the free time, until then be happy with what works, it's a big step in the right direction.
This is cool,we need something like this for boost mobile.

I don't know much about Boost but couldn't you program the Boost ones in manually through the debug menu... once I get it working?
Nice to hear this app progressing on our phone

Yep, PRL Manager
Not everything works yet, hence Work In Progress is in the title.
And by the way, any Devs that wanna jump in and help out are more than welcome... Some of this stuff is a little over my head and like I said I don't really use any of these features except the PRL and Profile Updates and MSL and all of those are currently working.

Unable to write a custom PRL, either with "PRL Manager" or the "Write PRL" command. I do have prl file saved in my SD root as test.prl
Getting force close from write prl, and prl manager looks like its working but my prl stays the same.
Working as intended, not yet implemented, or user error?

I haven't tested most of this stuff because I don't use it. So thanks for the info, I will add it to my list of things to do. It is a work in progress and I need the help of testers to get this running the way it should.

I'm happy to test for you. I have always wanted to switch PRLs on the fly since i get 1x or crappy 3g on sprint at work, but i could get vzw 3g with a hacked prl. But my sprint service at home is fine, so I'd rather not roam 24/7 if possible.
This app looks like it will let me do that, without having to deal with qpst or CDMA workshop. Once its finished that is.

Cool, this is gonna take awhile, I already don't have much free time as it is and this needs a lot of work... We'll get it there, especially if some other devs are willing to help out, that's why I posted it.

Get 4G LTE icon/ H+ icon on Back-to-N00t ROM (V6 only)

Hi guys!
Here I present to you a simple modification I have done in my S3.
THIS IS MY FIRST THREAD.
Actually this is just for my personal enjoyment but I decided to share it here in case anybody is interested.
I modified the SystemUI.apk on my phone running Back-to-N00t V6 from the usual 3G icon to this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I resized the icon to match the display since from the source where I got the icon it is in xxhdpi whereas in Back-to-N00t ROM it is in xhdpi only.
HOWEVER, if you are interested, download the file below:
View attachment SystemUI.apk
If you prefer H+ icon, download this file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3101092&d=1420550912
Instructions
1. Copy the file to your device.
2. I personally use Root Explorer, but if you have another file manager that can access system files, you can use it.
3. Put the file to /system/priv-app.
4. Set permissions.
5. Reboot.
6. You're good to go! HAHA!
If you are asking if this will work in versions 1-5 then my answer is
I DON'T KNOW.
If you want to, then you try but make sure to make a BACKUP first in case something goes wrong.
HIT THANKS IF YOU LIKE MY WORK!
All credits to @sunajkram23 to where I got the LTE icon (from his ROM) and to @arter97 for his amazing ROM.
It is just graphical or real functionality..?

Respect for your work, but why display Lte on a device that don't support it.
I think it would be more useful if you made a sys ui that shows H and H+ when its running on H and H plus
I think more people would find that useful. Showing correct data.
I hope you could make that possible too
Good work anyways

Then whats the need of this mod if it is just for implementing graphical 4G lte icon...?
I think he just done it for personal use and decided to share it. Which is fine and respect for that. But I hope one that displays H and H plus can be made too that functions the correct way.

back to noot ROM only has 3G and LTE in mobile data settings, so I modified the 3G icon to 4G LTE.
Actually as stated, it is only for personal reasons but I decided to share it.
BTW, If want H+ icon I can do it for you. HOLD ON for at least a few minutes.
