Need some advice - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ok, my work is giving me two choices of phones to update to.
1. Galaxy Nexus
or
2. HTC Rezound
Which should I go with and why?
I did ask if I could have a GS III, they just laughed. Well had to try. lol

As much as i love the g-nex and how open it is, I'd probably go with the rezound for work. Unless your a desk type. Battery life and durability aren't the gnex's strong points. Then again, if you are a desk type, and your company will replace your phone if anything happens, then I'd go with the nexus because i'm biased towards pure google.
Rezound:

Nexus:

The nexus radio issues have been fixed for the most part, and it will be receivnig JB before pretty much any verizon phone (hopefully)

My Nexus still gets better battery life in no signal area than my Rezound ever got.
Battery life is horrible on the Rezound.
That alone would recommend against it.

The phone is for both personal and work as I see fit. So far it looks like the Nexus on VZ will be my choice. Easy enough to root, already can get JB and updates hit it before others.
Though I have also heard good things about the Rezound..hmm.
Ok, so decided to get the Nexus. Now what is the best custom roms for it? I want the best performance, I have to use NFC, best radios, and best battery life I can get.

DO NOT GET THE REZOUND!!!!
Currently Vicious Jellybean is the best IMO.
But keep eyes out for the official CM10.

[Q]How is this phone?

So I'm getting a new phone. Right now I have a Cliq 2, but I'm getting a new one in the next week.
Right now I'm trying to decide between this, the G2x, or the MT4GS.
I'm not trying to get you guys to tell me why I should get this phone over the others, I'd just like to know what this phone is like. What are the ups? The downs? How's the phones radio? Custom ROMs? Battery life? And anything else you feel might be good to know before I make a decision.
Thanks!
Sent from my MB611 using Tapatalk
I like the screen size, battery is good for me, gets me through my 14hr day on one charge with the screen use between 3:30-4 hrs. The radio is great, i get good speeds and great audio quality on the phone. The ROM choices aren't great YET, but Juggernaut is perfect for me and as stable as can be with many features and tweaks.
some phones have the screen flaws, but its hardly noticeable unless you look for it. I would definitely recommend over the G2X, my previous phone, which I did not like. The MT4G slide my lady has and its a nice QWERTY phone, but the screen is too small for my liking. Also I find the battery better on this than my G2X fyi. You won't be upset with this phone, of that I am sure.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Just came from g2 with desire z hboot and rcmix3d 4.0...
Love the phone. Development is slow for phone. But phone is decent. Screen has bugs but overall nice phone great preformance with beastmod 2 4.0_
Large Screen, Fast, Great Battery
best phone i have ever owned!!! hands down, buy it now
Yea i had the g2x good phone but the gs2 blows it out of the water with everything.....mt4gs isnt in this category really as it is just a laggy beast (my 8yr old had one) anyways the screen is beautiful, call quality is awesome, rom development is getting there hopefully miui soon and we have cm. Audio quality=loudest phone i ever owned
this phone is exceptional in every way except development. our development page is death
Just buy it.
Alright cool. The only thing that's holding me back is the price tag now.
Also, how do you guys know you'll be getting more ROMs?

There is already an alpha build of CM7 available and CM9 is rumored to be in development. Once there is a stable CM7 build MIUI and other ROMs using a CM base should follow.

Definitely take out the MT4GS. G2x is a beasty phone...but the SGS2 is just something else. Awesome performance with awesome battery life.

Yeah, I haven't heard much about the MT4GS. The only thing that has it still in my mind is the keyboard. I love having the keyboard on my Cliq2, but I'm willing to sacrifice it if I can get a great phone.

Some of you are saying the dev here are slow which I agree to. But have you guys gone over to some of the other phones' dev threads? Look at the Amaze...LOL
I'm just curious do you people know how long it takes to compile and check roms for bugs? I don' think so. Making sure the code is correct if you changed anything. If their is one wrong line of code it code affect all the performance in a rom or kernel which could take minutes to hours to fix.. There will be no aosp roms until the cm team does it unless someone wants to do all the work themselves. Which by the way we have official support from the cm team. There are tons of developers outside which probably have tons of roms and kernels which are never released to the public because they don't want their work to be stolen or they simply don't want to share their work.
Doing things from scratch is a lot harder than porting. All the other galaxy s2 devices have mainly ports since they are nearly identical. The ports came from the official galaxy s2 which those people had to do things from scratch. Making roms is extremely time consuming these developers have other devices they work on, jobs , and family. They are not getting paid for their services to deliver roms. Just for you to flash and then complain about bad battery life. Which is most of the time the users fault. I think we should be more Appreciative that we actually have developers willing to share their work with us.
I like this phone. It makes phone calls and allows me to send texts.
I bet you'll enjoy it as well.

This answer made me smile. Thanks .... If you have some cash and you want to get something good get Galaxy Nexus. If you want to upgrade just go for SGSII it's nice I like it.
MT4GS: just no. The advantage of the g2x is OOB stock, and full cm support, plus wifi calling. It's a really awesome phone, and I would recommend it. GS2 is a really awesome phone but doesn't have full cm support yet.
TL;DR
MT4GS do not buy
G2X buy on a budget, or with no plans of rooting/romming
GS2 buy for the f***ing big screen, or the processor.

Alright. Why do you say not to buy the g2x though if I have no plans of rooting or romming? From what I've seen on its forums, it has tons of rom's and a few kernals.
And from what everyone has said this phone will soon have tons of rom's, though nobody knows for real if that's true or not

Any E4gT'ers have the Galaxy Nexus as well?

I was looking at the other forum, but didn't see that much. So thought I'd ask here. What do you think? I'm thinking of possibly switching, but not 100% sure. It all depends on the price. My epic 4g touch is amazing, minus my gps. It's decent in my Pittsburgh outdoors, but not amazing. In NYC/SF/Chicago, it's really bad for some reason.
But anyways, just wondering what ya'll think! I wanted a perspective from this forum, since I know most here love their GSII's!

I have a June 1 upgrade and I may get it. I feel your pain on the NYC part. My phone just doesn't like low signal areas. In NYC I can go one block and have 10Mbps 4g and go another and have 1 bar of 3g. When I am about to lose 3g I get random vibrations and menu pop ups. That being said, my NS4G will be the phone to go wifi only. I don't think I would sell my ET4G to get a GNex. I probably would sell it if the S3 is off of the charts amazing but fortunately I am not in the position to have to make that decision. I will be rocking my Epic Touch for a while. Development is going to take off once we have the official ICS build and kernel source. The best days are still ahead of this phone
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
I just came from ET4g. The biggest difference in my opinion is the screen quality. ET4G has a superior screen but you get used to it. Processing power is still the same. Also what I like about nexus coming from root is you'll always have a recovery when switching roms especially cyanogenmod 9. It's a pain in ET4g. The only reason I got this is the LTE feature. The screen size had no influence imo.

Agreed, and I'm not just saying that because my upgrade is in like 1 and a half years! I feel like the Gnex and the E4GT aren't that difference, so IMO there's no need to update. I really don't see much difference in what the Nexus offers that our phones don't. Maybe I'll wait till the S3 to see if I want to trade in my phone or sell it.
Im still debating over the GN or the EVO One.
Good:
1.Flashing ROMs is way easier like a previous user mentioned because you always have a recovery.
2. The camera takes beautiful pictures, and fast! Also I should mention it saves the orientation of the picture, unlike the epic touch... -__-
3. Better android update support.
4. LTE support.
Bad:
1. Speaker wasn't as loud.
2. The phone seemed to get very hot for no apparently reason on custom ROMs and stock with different kernels within mins if usage.
3. On screen buttons are annoying, at least for me.
4. Phone struggled to get signal more than my e4GT.
5. By time LTE is rolled out in most common areas there will be a better LTE device or a new nexus.
6. Hardware isn't any better than ours.
7. Battery life wasn't good for my needs compared to the E4GT (With LTE disable).
The reasons above were my personal testings. Yours may be different.
^ Exactly what I would've said. I'm coming back to the e4gt this week. The nexus also has a purple tint to it at a dark setting. (Very noticeable on the pull down bar.)

Uhhh, the camera from the GN is wayyyyy inferior to the E4GT. Everyone knows that. It is faster though, but the quality blows compared to the latest phones. That to me was enough to pass on it until the GS3.

Well duh, that is why I mentioned it as a good thing. the camera on the E4GT is good enough for my usage just I hate having to hold my phone sideways to take pictures correctly.
I've got both
The GPS being functional is amazing on the Nexus, the screen looks nicer on the Nexus (imo)
But the Epic Touch feels smoother and is a bit more of a robust phone I think. Plus I know it better
To me the nexus is about the same as epic touch, but nexus gets me better a signal in lower signal areas.. Screen has higher resolution and that is only thing I missed from 3d ...I wont get evo lte , no way I give htc any money after the debacle that was the 3d . I hate sense so will not run it , if galaxy 3 doesn't wow then I will wait for next nexus....but galaxy 3 will be great so I will probably get that ...we should know something on thursday...

I got a couple of updates on my account and thought about getting the GNex but then I said my part of the world is not getting LTE anytime soon. If I want to pull my hair out now with Sprints 3g I may want to kill myself it that's my only choice for another year..... Now that and that alone would be my reason to just wait it out...

This has been my one and only gripe about my Epic Touch is low signal areas. My phone is almost unusable inside my office but everywhere else its fantastic. If you are saying that is OK then its still in the running for me.
Question, is all of the ET4G source code going to be available once OTA rolls out (or soon after) or do they only release bits and pieces? Also, will it be the same for S3? I assume that since it comes with ICS the kernel source should be there but what about the rest of it? Thanks

Nexus > S1-S2-Note

I've seen a lot of Threads talking about the Comparison between several phones.
I'm an X S1,S2,Note owner. And I can tell you all by far, this is the best device I have had among the four. I ran AOKP/CM9 on all, and the Nexus handles ICS in the best way possible. The Galaxy Note had a pretty good battery life for me, 4 hours of Onscreen time, but I'm getting it on the Nexus as well.
I think I'd only leave for another Nexus. As well as nothing better than on the go updates, and HUGE dev support ! Jelly Bean knocking doors. Cheers.

Ooops sorry ! Didn't see it

From my experience: I absolutely love my Gnex

I'm always a little iffy about all of the phones I buy but I'm sold on the Galaxy Nexus (Maguro). There really is no phone like it. I'm gonna go ahead and do a mini review since I know Gnex owners like seeing positive experiences.
Background: I basically came from an iPhone and a One X. I was an Android purist when I first started my smartphone venture with the myTouch 3G and the Evo 4G. Due to battery life problems and countless defects, I went to the iPhone for a year and found myself incredibly bored. Recently, I purchased the One X, but it was also plagued by manufacturer defects and Sense killed it for me. No use having great hardware on an platform that isn't optimized.
I decided to look into the Gnex because I saw a deal on the Play Store and I love the pure Android experience. I have to say, I've never had a smartphone experience like this. I received the phone quick as hell from Google (two day shipping). From first impressions the hardware looked incredibly well made: no hardware buttons, sleek and well thought out design, etc.
Turned on the phone and I was so happy to see just the Google trademark and the Nexus boot animation with no carrier branding or bloat. The phone has a bright, vivid screen that easily rivals the One X, snappy performance and feels great in the hand. So, as any logical Android power user would do, I unlocked the bootloader, rooted my phone and began flashing to see which setup fit me best.
I finally found my favorite. Right now, I'm on:CyanogenMod 2012-06-13-NIGHTLY-MAGURO with Trinity STABLE65.
Only thing I needed now was to experience daily use of my phone to determine whether or not it was a winner. As of today, I'm sold. I took my phone off the charger yesterday around 10:15 AM to head to the beach. Took pictures, texted, made a few phone calls. Left the beach at 5 PM, went to the mall and ran around the whole mall busting missions using my phone with horrible signal. Left home, got ready to go out, went to a party and spent the night texting, browsing the Internet, taking pictures, and making phone calls. I came home at 5 AM, fell asleep, woke up today at 11 AM, and the phone is still going! 1d 2h turned on with 30% left. I have finally found the phone for me. Not even my One X gave me such good results.
Not only that, pictures at night come out fantastic, to the point that I make my iPhone friends jealous. I removed bootanimation.zip so now I only see the Android logo when the phone boots. I copied modded Sans Serif fonts to my system/fonts folder and now I see Emoji system wide. I tweaked the screen colors, customized my phone to my desire, and I'm still not done making it exactly how I want it.And to top it off, everyone asks me about my phone. When they hold it they can't believe how light it feels in the hand. When they use it they say "I didn't know Android was this easy to use."
So yeah, thats my experience with the Gnex and I thought you all might like seeing it. I hope you guys have similar experiences. I'm loving my Gnex. Cheers!

I went from the Desire to the Desire HD, and the build quality of the DHD was appalling. I sold it rooted about a week later and spent another happy 22 months with my Desire before upgrading to the Nexus.
I'd like to give the SGS III a go, but I just can't be bothered with the home button and the dedicated soft keys, I'm sure you can deactivate them, but I am made up with Black Ice without a nav bar, LMT is the best thing ever invented.

Wtf is up with the misconception about gsm battery life. It's great, and anybody who says otherwise is missing something. The pics below are 30% brightness, data on and syncing entire time. And these results are not abnormal for RAScream + trinity users. Standard size battery.

I have the verizon cdma version, and while it may not get as good battery life as the gsm version, it's still pretty good. You just have to find a rom/kernel combo that you and your phone likes. On average I get about 2-3 hours of screen time, depending on what I'm doing, and lasts a full day.

Rascream is a "stockish" ROM with a some added fuctionality (like status bar power widget & modifiable navbar) there is no official thread but discussion on this ROM take place in the Trinity kernel thread in the GSM dev section

The phone has been out over 7 months, and we're still getting "mini reviews?" As much as I love my Nexus, it's old news. The GS3 is the new king, and the Nexus is yesterday's new toy.

Not all countries launched the phone on the same date. Besides, not everybody is willing to pay the price difference for a SGS3, the Gnex still can deal with any app with no problems, the dev support for a Nexus Device has no rival.
So yes, reviews at this point in time are still very welcome.
I bought the GNexus about 20 days ago, my first nexus and I don't think I can go back to a no nexus phone. The pure android experience and this community are awesome.
I have tried AOKP+ Franco, Rascream + Trinity and for me rascream + Franco has delivered the best performance.

just cause you like pure android that doesn't mean touchwiz suck. it has its pros and cons. and besides that S3 has better hardware as well and newer so without a questions its the hot topic. i know you bought yours 20 days ago but thats actually very late.. Nexus is old (got mine in Feb) and S3 is new. just have to accept it.
LTE Gnex, standard battery and Trinity ZM3 kernel. Hard to beat that with any phone and definitely any Android I've ever owned.

+1. I switched from a Sprint E4GT to my GSM GNex a few weeks ago and I'm still floored by this phone. No need for folks to be buzzkills.

[Q] Worth upgrading to SG3 from SG2?

Now before I get flamed for asking such a ridiculous question, let me start off by saying that I know the SG3 is an awesome phone and it had features and does things better/faster than the SG2. That being said, is it REALLY worth the upgrade?
I've had my SG2 for a little over a year. I'm eligible for an upgrade on October 2 and I'm debating on whether or not I should switch over to the SG3. I really love my SG2. I have it rooted and customized perfectly (for me). The only thing that I wish was better is the battery life...its still better than most android ICS phones, but it still drains pretty fast with moderate - heavy use (yes I've already played around with different ROMs, kernels and modems). While I'm at work I have to keep the phone connected to WiFi because I don't get the best reception in my office...so that causes the battery to drain as well. Because battery life is a concern I also keep it slightly undervolted, which causes it to be somewhat slow and laggy, but it gives me the best battery life. I know the SG3 is certainly going to be faster than my SG2...but is battery life that much better? I know its a bigger battery, but there's a lot more for the SG3 to power (compared to the SG2), so I'm wondering if battery life is a wash.
Anyway...for those of you that upgraded from the SG2...what are your impressions...was it worth it?
Thanks in advance!

I can pull 14 hours with 4 hours screen on time w/ FreeGS3 rom. Now that may change now though since I flash a new kernel. We shall see.
Sent from Pluto.
I'd wait for the note ii, if you can handle the size

I would say the note 2, but i just tried the older one and it don't fit in my pockets at all. Just wait till January there will be some killer quad core behemoths waiting for you. The galaxy s3 is great phone but it made everyone step there game up a notch. I might have to get a man purse if i like the note 2 alot :/.

Yea I looked at the Note but its just too big. The SG3 is probably the biggest i'd go
, yes it's definitely worth it if you don't want to waste your upgrade on the note 2 because you don't like the size this phone is the perfect fit I like you resisted upgrading from my S 2 but now that I have the battery life is better the phone is faster and the features and APs move way smoother I would definitely get it

Sorry to bump an old thread but didn't want to start a new one...
Coming from an epic 4g touch, will it be worth it after all these new updates coming out? I have a hook up already set where the difference of switching will be only $200(no upgrade)..
reason why I'm hesistant is cause Samsung has failed us on very late os updates..was planning on the next nexus to be my next phone. Opinions?

I have both and I'm currently using e4gt cause of 4g Wimax, but I'd recommend skipping the s3 and going for the note 2 if it's within your budget!
