help wiht MTP/Media Scan? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

All,
Finally got JellyBean up and running after a scare with semi bricked phone. Everything was running cool when I started accidentally put .nomedia into the music folder. I realized that, deleted that file, delete data from "Media Storage" service, reboot(thinking that will make phone rescan all the media.
Now, it still doesn't the my music, and when I plug the phone to the computer, all I see is one folder which is the Notification folder. I've had this happen before and I really rather not wipe my phone again.
Any pointers on fixing this?
Thanks!

"SDCard" Help

I recently got my phone swapped out VIA warrenty.
I was running AOKP on my old phone and copied via ADB all of my files from the internal storage to a folder on my PC.
When I got my new phone I ADB Pushed all the files back on the phone (after unlocking the bootloader) and installed the rom back up.
Unfortunately, my gallery is not picking up any pictures except for the ones I take with the phone, even though I see on my PC and Astro on the phone that the old pictures are there.
In addition, none of my custom notifications or ringtones or alarms are showing up in Android even though they are in the same place they were before, with the same rom.
I've tried many of the 'sdrescan' apps and nothing has worked.
I tried erasing the internal memory, and instead of transferiing the files VIA ADB I tried doing it VIA Windows Explorer (which took forever)
Nothing has worked
Please Help
Dominic
Solved....
After DAYS of trying, and many hard resets, I found a .nomedia file hidden on the root of the sdcard.......don't know how the hell I didn't notice it before. Still wondering how it got there...

Same thing is happening to me. The phone still will not recognize my internal storage ringtones and notifications though, even after removing the .nomedia file.

[Q] Couple of issues after flashing to Jellybelly Rom

All,
I flashed Jellybelly rom yesterday and is experiencing a couple of issues. Would love if you guys can help.
When I connect my phone to my pc and laptop via usb, I do not see all my folders on the phone, just Notification and Ringtones. I made sure usb fast charge is not checked and under storage MTP is checked. I cannot figure out why I don't see my storage folders. I can see it if I browse it on my phone via astro but not when mounted on the pc.
Music Play is not seeing all my music on the phone, just what i have in the cloud. Not sure if this is related to why I can't see folders when mounted on pc
How do I reset ringtones. I check system ringtones initially when configuring it, and I can't select my mp3 as ringtone.
Thanks for any help!

I believe it has to do with Jellybean seeing the SDcard at /storage/sdcard0 when in ICS it saw it at /mnt/sdcard. But idk. I have no problems with it, so I recommend wiping everything (Wipe Data + Cache + Dalvik Cache AND Format System and Format Data) and reflashing your JB rom.

Loosing media

Hello i recently swapped from ARHD to pabx's [ROM][Feb 8] Jellybean 4.2.1 for Endeavoru AOSP Build [Kernel 3.1.10] #14 but im getting a strange problem sometimes im loosing all the media from my phone (photo's and music). It is still there when i try to mount it from recovery>mount USB.
Before installing the new ROM i wiped the whole sd card and transferred the media files trough MTP,and had no problems with listening to music from the phone until i restarted, then everything went missing. Any help is appreciated.

Hi mate, try this:
Rescan SD
I tell you to do this first as I use this one.
Its not an app, you should just see "Media Rescanned" then check for your music again
If that doesnt work try this one:
Try this second
If not let me know and I'll help further.
Hello and thank you for answering those apps were the ones i first tried, but sadly it didn't work. Any ideas ?
Are you using any different media apps? Like PowerAMP etc? If so, Remove them for now.
Also, as you said, make sure all files show up in PC.
Restart Phone (MAKE SURE FASTREBOOT or whatever its called) IS NOT!!! selected. Turn Fastreboot off.
Restart the phone.
Re Scan media.
Re-check, let me know what happens
Edit (ROOTED) solution:
Another solution is, if your rooted, go to your Music App (In settings) Clear data/cache, Disable the music app.
Restart phone.
Then re-enable music app.
Voila, music should be visible.
(Same applies for Pictures, just follow the steps but for Gallery).

Also simply try holding power for like 10+ seconds. You should see a reboot coming up. This is equal to a battery pull, whereas rebooting from the menu is a simple reboot.
I tried this i even wiped cache. I don't think it is related to the music app itself because even with File explorers like Astro and ES i can't seem to find the media files.
PS: I think the fastboot option is only in sense roms ,im with AOSP and didn't find any option of enable/disable this function.
You may wonder why I have so many resolutions for you, its because I had this issue:
My final idea for you to try, then I'm stumped.
This worked for me, but wanted to hold off as if you have alot of music, it can take a while.
Heres what to do:
Plug device into PC.
Copy Music folder (ALL OF IT, including the actual "Music" folder, to your PC Desktop.
When it has copied to PC, Delete it from the device (yes delete it).
Unplug device
Re-scan SD
Restart device
Plug device back in
Create a new folder named "Music" (CREATE A NEW ONE)
Open the "Music" folder you copied TO your PC.
Copy all the music into your new "Music" folder on device
Re-scan
Restart
Some of these steps may not be necessary (such as re-scanning twice) but DO ALL STEPS.
This resolved my missing music, let me know if it works for you. Goodluck.
Removed all media (music and photos) and added them again (trough Recovery>mount USB) then wiped cache and dalvik cache, rescanned sd and the problem is still there :/ The weird thing is that i get this problem only on Pabx's rom and not on any other. I had this issue on RC 11 then swapped back to ARHD ,now im back to RC14 and the problem is still there.
PS:Btw i reinstalled windows, and when i was seting up adb when i type adb devices i didn't get a list of devices as like there was no devices connected, but when i flashed the boot.img (fastboot flash boot boot.img) the boot.img flashed correctly i got the two OKAY's. Might it be related to this ?
Bah, so your not stock I now find out.
I also feel bad for telling you all these things, when it hasnt helped.
I would re-install ADB/Fastboot, and also add the path to your Fastboot/ADB to your envioronment variables. (Control Panel - Advanced System Settings - Envioronment Varibles)
Make sure you add it to the current list, dont replace anything, it should have a " ; " at the start and end of every variable.
That will make it so you don't have to CD into your fastboot/adb folder in CMD. You can use ADB from anywhere.
Also remove any and all drivers related to Android, just to be on safe side. (They'll be re-downloaded when device is plugged)
Ok it's done i flashed the boot.img, (I don't need to reflash the whole ROM right ?)
Now how should i transfer the music back to the sd card ? Trough MTP or Recovery USB Mount ?
PS:The problem is still there but i think it is because of the big /data partition. For now im going back to arhd. Thank you Wilks3y.

OBB Data Mysteriously gets deleted! Help Please.

Okay I have a serious issue. Randomly after moving my game data from PC to Android/obb the files mysteriously poof.
The really strange part is, is that they are not getting deleted, my file system still shows that the space is being used.
The files are nowhere to be found, and the Obb Folder is empty. This has happened countless times after full wipes and reflashing.
I am running Gummy M4 Rom 4.4.4, this seems to happen with or without xposed installed. It also seems to happen after moving a lot of data to obb.
Anyone have ANY idea what is going on?
Edit:
Upon further investigation, what seems to be happening is
After moving data to /sdcard/android/obb via pc (mtp) and rebooting
the data then moves itself to
/data/media/0/android/obb
I have no idea why it is doing this. Anybody have a fix?
UPDATE :
Ok so I figured out a workaround for this issue if anyone else is experiencing it.
Basically my obb files were disappearing after a reboot, this was after me doing a fresh rom flash and restoring the data back to obb folder.
They were then being moved to /data/media/0/android/obb , if you move back the data from here to the original location and reboot, it should stick after for that data + new data as well.

I have found a workaround due to your post and I thought it would be a nice idea to wirte it here.
I came to the counclusion that if I did a fresh new reset factory and installing a large mount of files in the internal storage's obb folder it ended up being deleted after rebotting my tablet.
So I decided to do a few steps the next time I reseted my tablet. First, I copied my files using my pc into the SD Card. Then, I installed a random game from Google Play so the tablet could "adapt itself" and install its own obb folder. After that, I installed my apps but not all at once but one at the time and rebooting after every installation for making sure it was all ok.
It concluded not having the error again and after having deleted the random game from the begining my tablet had finally worked.
Hope this idea helps someone having the same problem as I did. Just don't copy all obb files at once, don't copying it directly from the computer but copying them from the SD Card and install some random game for making sure it can at least hold those obb files.
Good luck!
Hi i just had a similar problem with my huawei nova 3e(p20 lite). I was playing gta:sa and it seems started crashing a lot so i did what the developer said and cleared te cache for gta sa then powered off the phone for a few minutes before turning it back on. Before doing thos step i also use the huawei 'clean up' function under the optimiser seeing as it has these functions built in. When the phone powered back on and tried to play gta sa and it started trying to download the obbs then failed to launch and i went to the file explorer to find out all my obbs were gone.
I have never made a backup of my phone data so the data recovery methods that google suggests wont fix anything as i didnt back them up and i havent got an sd card in the phone so it's not likely that the phone has moved them elsewhere like what happened to the original poster.
Is it possible the cleanup function in the optimizer somehow recognized all the contents of my obb folder as being junk and deleted them all? But that is unlikely as i do this process many times a day when gta starts crashing and once the caches are clear and the phones ram is optimised the game runs fine every other time after a reset. If the files moved somewhere like original poster where might i find them seeing as i dont have an sd card? And if that isnt the case then i suppose i have little choice but to habve to re
download the huge obb files every time the phone wants to delete them? (another thing i noticed is that it was literallt only the obb files gone, my save gamea etc are still present and im a littlest worried if i track down the obbs and put them back or worst comes tl worst redownload them agqin, will rhis make app clear all its current data and delete my saves?

.nomedia files being added automatically.

I have recently done a factory reset and ever since .nomedia files keep getting added to all of the folders on my internal memory about once a day. I have a sd card but have nothing on it. I haven't added any new apps that I wasn't using before the factory reset. Has anyone else had this happen? I use ES File manager to delete them and my media then shows up like it should but its becoming very aggravating and I need help trying to track down the culprit.
This is still happening at least once a day. It is adding 312 .nomedia files. I am not sure what is causing it to happen. I have been checking my gallery using qicpic after each time I use an app and nothing but then after a while of not using the phone they get added to every folder ans sub-folder in my internal memory. Someone please tell me I'm not going crazy!
