Connecting kindle fire on Mac - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so i got a friend who has CM9 installed on her kindle fire. She's trying to transfer files using a Mac but it doesn't recognize it. Any ideas? Does it have to do with Mac lacking mtp support?

As far as i know yes
She has a HTC evo4g slide that works fine

Try to go into recovery (TWRP) and mount the usb storage there. This maybe a jellybean only bug. Since it is new and not very stable.

Oh sorry, I misread the cm9 with cm10. Monitor is a bit buggy, but anyways try the twrp usb storrage mode.

Well it maybe driver problems, or as I said try in twrp. But most likely something is wrong with drivers, or maybe usb mass storage is not turned on.

It might be a USB power problem, make sure you connect it to one of the main ports, and not via a hub.
Also, double-check she has mass storage turned on (this is important )
Try rebooting both the Mac and the Fire.
Which ROM exactly does she have on it? If it's an outdated one, I'd recommend using the very stable GedeROM or Team Kang ROM.
I have a Mac and I've successfully connected my Fire to my Mac on GedeROM, Team Kang ROM as well as the Jelly Bean ROM, so I'm not sure what they problem would be other than the ones I've mentioned here.

Look under Disk Utility and see if it shows up there...

Yeah I've read through that. But he doesn't explain how he got fastboot to work. No matter what i try it refuses to make a connection to the computer.
And yes i have done the update.zip several times with different ROMS and of course the Stock ones. it always ends up saying

and then just hangs.
Updated OP with what is going on with the recovery.

Drivers
Verify you have the drivers for the A100 installed on your pc. Be sure to get the official ones from the Acer website... Windows acts like it may download and install the correct drivers but they dont work.
http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=3849
I've already done that too. When I connect it to the computer it doesn't even make the windows connected sound.

Can't transfer data via USB on CM9 or CM10 on Mac OSX

So I've tried flashing both CM9 and CM10 roms but no matter what I do I can't get it to recognize my sdcard or my internal storage on my Mac. I've even tried formatting the card to fat32 and still nothing. Any ideas what I should do to get this to work? How is it working for you guys? I would post this in the CM threads but I rather not clutter it with questions. Thanks in advance
What do you mean it won't recognize your sdcard? The recovery won't read it? If so, which recovery do you have?

When connected, you should get a notification telling you that your phone is connected via USB.
Select it, and make sure that it's connected as PTP.
MTP does not work on Macs.

Sounds like you should just invest in an external SD card reader. Or look into wireless file transfer even though I don't trust that when it comes to transferring roms... I don't use macs so I'm little help lol.

Thats exactly what I use when Im on FREE GS3 rom, but whenever I switch to a CM9 or CM10 rom it just doesnt mount. Im starting to think maybe its the kernel CM based roms are using
PTP currently does not work on Cm9/10 roms, which is why your having problems it is the main reason keeping me away from using either one as a daily driver for now
Any updates on this? I'm using the latest CM10 nightly - it would sure be nice to be able to connect to my Mac.

Being a Mac user I know the issue you are talking about. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a Boot Camp partition. In finder open Applications-Utilities-Boot Camp. There will be a printable tutorial. The Boot Camp application literally walks you through the process. I have found this method far better than running a V.M.
still no fix?
Hi
Hi,
Im using the latest S3 CM
ANd this seems to work for me
1. Install Kies.
2. In kies go to tools and use the option to reinstall drivers.
3. Install Android File transfer
4. Reboot mac
5. Connect your GS3 and run Android File transfer
Works for me.
Cheers

PC Doesn't Recognize USB in Recovery

I'm on Task AOKP with the latest TWRP installed. Whenever I boot into recovery my PC doesn't recognize my phone. I get the USB error sound and the device manager shows SAMSUNG_android_SGH-I747 with a yellow exclamation point and it says the driver isn't installed. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. The phone connects fine and all the drivers are installed properly when the phone is booted.

I used to (on my Captivate) be able to access the internal SD in recovery. I used it to transfer files/completely wipe SD then transfer and install a new ROM.
I've also tried a different USB Cable and tried CWM. The USB is plugged into the back of the computer.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever tried connecting my phone to my pc in recovery so I don't know what to tell you. Mine has only been connected when booted up or in download mode
Out of curiosity i had to try.

while connected to the computer you are trying to ADB from, toggle debugging OFF and then toggle it back ON. you should see a security authorization question to allow access from that computer and the option to remember your choice.
in 4.2.x, they seem to have added a layer of security and if you simply enabled debugging with no computer connected at the time, you won't have gotten this prompt. if you connect to a different computer at some point and need ADB functions from that one, you'll need to be connected, disable debugging, then enable it and answer the security question for THAT computer as well.

Correct. Although you don't need to disable/re-enable USB debugging before connecting to another host. Android will pop-up the "security question" again. At least on Linux hosts.

Then you need updated adb binary. Fastboot only works on fastboot interface, not Android. But you might need to update both adb and fastboot binaries. The toolkit probably already updated them, that's why it works, not because you're using a toolkit, learning nothing.

From your kindle though, can you switch to recovery mode? I had that happen a few times. I don't remember the fix, except to completely uninstall all kindle fire drivers and reinstall them. When you boot your kindle, does your computer show it as an unrecognized device?

So have the device manager open before you plug in the kindle. Then plug the kindle in. Something should change, and your kindle should show up as a kindle, an android adb device, an unrecognized device, or something else.

Ok, You could also launch USBDeview to remove all drivers that look like they are for your kindle. In your case, you may end up deleting a couple of drivers for your G2, so you might want to be careful.
-----EDIT-----
So here's a link for the files you need to run USBDeview. Don't worry, you don't need to install it or anything, and this comes from an application similar to the KFU, but meant for Nexus devices called the Nexus Root Toolkit from the Nexus 7 thread.
Also, sorry for the delay, I just had a lovely 2 hour nap.

I'm positive. If you don't want to download mine, just head over to the nexus 7 forum and download the toolkit. I isolated just the files you need so you didn't have to download everything, but if you feel that's safer, then go ahead and do that instead.
