Help guys. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys..
I'm running the Jelly bean preview Rom on my gnex, it keeps prompting me with a new update (4.1.1 I assume) but wherever I try to update it stops and gives me the lying down droid..
How can I update?
Typed on my Galaxy S 3 ♡

In order to accept and auto-install an OTA, you must have: the stock recovery, proper radio, stock bootloader, and unmodified system (no changed fonts, bar mods, etc.).

I don't have stock recovery. Can I flash stock recovery without losing data? If so how?

Yes you can flash the stock recovery without losing data.
Use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
Read the whole thing first. You specifically need section D., part 12) to flash the radio.

Can't I simply use the toolkit?

Learn how to do it manually so you don't come back again asking for help with a phone sitting at recovery
You'll be coming back here and helping others instead!

Are you rooted? With cwm recovery? In which case, u cannot use the system update in the setting to update your phone. Find a ROM og your choosing and flash away.

I know how to do it manually.. but if I can do it with the toolkit then why not lol
I flashed the yakju build a while ago via fast boot. Then flashed the jelly bean preview Rom via cwm. I just want to go to stock with no mods or root.
Should I just restore the whole thing?

Depends what you flashed. Like I said, you need the right radio, recovery, bootloader and system files.
If all you need is the recovery, just flash the recovery. If you also need the radio, flash the radio. Neither will wipe data.
You should do it manually. If you know how to do it, I don't know why you're even considering using a toolkit.

I have the S 3 and I've given my gnex to my bro.. I dont to screw it up for him..
Ill try and see what happens..

How to go from rooted to unrooted jellybean?

I use a friends account. I dont know much about rooting etc and iäve tried to google some info but i get nowhere..
Can someone explain to me how to do it from aokp-maguro-build 27 to jellybean?
I know its a worthless post to many here. But not for me. So i hope you can have some patient with me.

Do you need no root, or do you just want a stock ROM without customizations?
Edit: If you want stock everything the gnex toolkit is a good place to start.

If you just want stock Jelly Bean you can download the stock image from here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Obviously this will be 100% stock, no root or customisations. You CAN still root though.
If you want AOKP Jelly Bean you have to wipe and flash. Use something like clockworkmod to wipe and flash the latest AOKP JB Build. Still experimental though.
In any case, copy off your data as you are going to wipe in any case. Restoring the factory image !!ALSO WIPES THE SD CARD!!
Just a really simple way to unroot your device:
- Download the GNex toolkit (sticky thread)
- run it and choose the unroot option
- read and do the steps which a displayed
- finish

Okey, thanks i will try it. its just that i dont know much about it and i think my phone is **** with root. It freezes and stop working/rebooting quiet often. which is to me a big problem. So i just want stock jellybean and nothing more =)
You are using a really old AOKP ICS Build (27) and you are wondering about issues?
Not really?!
Root isn´t the reason of your reboots/freezes.

If you want stock Jelly Bean, follow the instructions here. They are step-by-step and n00b-friendly.

You can't just flash the factory images from recovery like any other rom. They should be flashed from fastboot using usb(the hardest part is making the drivers work).
When the drivers and fastboot work, all you need to do is run the following commands:
"fastboot flash bootloader <name of bootloader.img here>"
"fastboot reboot-bootloader"
"fastboot flash radio <name of radio.img here>"
"fastboot reboot-bootloader"
"fastboot -w update <name of zip-update-file included>"

If you want to do it in recovery, you can use the files I had posted here to flash IMM76I and update to JRO03C using the instructions here. (I haven't had a chance to pack up the JB files for CWM-flashing).
But I would suggest this method I had posted earlier.

[FASTBOOT][GSM][4.1.2] Rooted Factory Images

I have modified the Yakju Galaxy Nexus factory images by completely wiping my Nexus, restoring using the factory images supplied by Google, rooting them and repacking the images with root intact.
After trying so many ROMs that are available, sometimes I think, especially considering the latest releases from Google, that stock is the way to go. Flashing it using these images is my preferred method, being the cleanest, and I have provided these for your convenience as I haven’t seen them anywhere else only ever seen flashable ROMs (i.e. from Recovery) based on the factory images, etc...
These are:
Factory Images “yakju” for Galaxy Nexus “maguro” (GSM/HSPA+)
Android 4.1.2 (JZO54K) with SU binary only
Android 4.1.2 (JZO54K) with SU binary and SuperSU app
Download links are here. MD5 and SHA1 sums are listed so you can check the downloads.
You have to use Fastboot to flash these to your device. The only requirement is that your device's bootloader is unlocked, which you can easily do, but be warned that this will wipe your user data as will flashing these factory images.
To Unlock Bootloader (in the terminal):
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Unzip the factory image and just run the flash-all.sh in a Linux terminal or flash-all.bat in the Windows command line.
thanks 'mate! I'm gonna try this out in a bit last time I was on stock was still 4.1.1, and my current custom ROM is still on that version.
What are actually the differences of 4.1.1 and 4.1.2? Just thought you had any idea.. :cyclops:
In 4.1.2 I've noticed better battery life like others have reported and notifications can now be expanded and shrunk if you hold on them and drag up and down.

I'm not 100% sure as I have never used a Mac for that but there's a good guide here.
Hey, thanks for the links, just want to ask, if I'm already rooted and unlocked my bootloader, if I flash this via fastboot, will it erase my apps/internal memory/photos and such? Quite curious it's just the unlocking the bootloader that deletes all data. Will like inquiries. Thanks!

If you just run the script as is, it will wipe everything. The best thing to do is just flash the system.img if you want to retain your data.
"fastboot flash system system.img"

Of course you can, it resets everything back to a factory state. Just make sure you backup your data add it'll go once the image has been flashed

No. Google how to flash the Nexus to stock or read the sticky thread on it in this very section. It's nothing to do with CWM
You do know you can just flash a new ROM now don't you? If you wanna try 4.2 just download one and of u go...

What do you think happens when you flash a ROM? Why would you need to install a stock ROM just so it can be completely wiped with a custom ROM install?
There is zero need to install stock 4.2 first. That's just a silly way to think.

the thing that confuses me is i think i saw certain ROMs (bugless beast comes to mind) that says use this ROM if you're on 4.2, use THIS one if you're on 4.1, etc.
got a link? because there should be no reason at all to be on 4.2 to flash 4.2.....unless he doesnt include kernels

Sending in device to Samsung, need to reset to original settings

I'm sending in my galaxy nexus to samsung to get it repaired/fixed and was wondering what I need to do to reset it to factory settings/state. I know I need to unroot, but what else?
Sorry for the beginner question, I just don't want to send it in and get it sent back because of some software thing I forgot.
Thanks, and have a nice day!

I'd flash a stock rom directly from Google. Their script wipes everything out and goes completely stock. And then you can run `fastboot oem lock` to lock the bootloader. That's about as stock as you can get.

So if I flash a stock rom with the galaxy nexus toolkit will it unroot my phone or do I still need to do that? And then what do I use to run the "fastboot oem lock"? What about like CWM and like busybox? Will the stock rom get rid of those too?
Thanks for your help btw.

Stop using toolkits and do it the Google way.

[Q] must I root 4.3 (w/knox) to install custom rom?

I just got another Note 2 with the darn 4.3 and KNOX!
If I just want to install philz and a SynergyROm for 4.3, must I root ??
Thx!
Here's what you do. ..
1. Odin a recovery of choice.
2. Flash Billiards412 Rom restore . This removes Knox but doesnt reset knox.
3. Odin a recovery again of your choice. Since it gets removed
4. Flash Synergy.

Yes one of the joys of the phone not being locked down tight. I have had multiple htc phones and they were a pain. This was my first samsung and i have to say it is easy.
Only thing is when flashing new roms you will wont to make sure to wipe/format internal sdcard. For more info check out the guide in general section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50335424 While titled as 4.3 and 4.4 the steps should be used for all rom installs. Although the back to stock method is not allways required.
