Is my front camera broken? Every time I try to turn on the front camera it just return back to the home screen. I"m running mikg 3.11 android 2.3.5 software 4.67.651.3.....I even try a different rom to but that didn't work either, wiping dalvik cache and cache didn't work also.

I have the t mobile one (SGH-T999) and i wiped everything and installed the latest cm10.1, but it seems that any rom based off of CM also kills my camera but any other rom allows it to work. CM makes it so any camera app crashes even before i see anything out of the camera lens. what should i do?
same issue here. Stable CM10, camera throws "can't connect to camera" error. Latest CM10.1 nightly, same issue. Latest Jellybam, same issue.
Wicked has functional camera, but I'd like to stay as close to basic AOSP/AOKP/CM as possible.
Anyone found a solution? Anyone not having this issue?
I suppose wiping camera/gallery was the first thing you tried.
Yeah, sure was. So far I have...
Cleared gallery cache/data from "manage apps"
Wiped data, cache, dalvik cache from CWM touch recovery 6.0.2.3
fix permissions from CWM touch recovery 6.0.2.3
installed every CM10/AOKP based rom I can find twice, wiping data/cache each time
tried other camera apps (none work, all have similar errors regarding inability to connect to camera)
It doesn't seem like this is a common issue. I'd be very convinced my hardware is simply broken, except that the camera works in the stock samsung rom, wicked, and pretty much everything build on touchwiz/samsung.
possibly a kernel issue?
have a look at this thread. i've been having camera problems with all versions of CyanogenMod that i've tried on my Galaxy S III and this latest possible fix is giving me hope. i'm restoring back to stock via ODIN right now and am going to pull the stock version of SlimISP_ZH.bin from /data and attempt to drop it into my CM10 image to see what might work.
Dont use the one that says it has photosphere working. Cause it doesnt work. You need to use a 4.1 gallery2.apk file.
Hello!
I'm having issues with all non-sense roms and the camera... The camera works ok some of the time but very often the screen turns into a colour-filled glitchey mess and locks up. If I close the camera app and try to reopen it says can't connect to camera. The only to fix it is to restart phone. This happens LOADS. I'm currently using the latest 4.2 ICJ but this has been happening since CM10 and ICJ 4.1. Using the boot.img supplied with each ROM in each instance. I have tried using the super wipe script, wiping cache and user data in CWM recovery (latest touch). I am doing this:
In fastboot:
Erase cache
Flash boot
Erase cache
In recovery:
Install rom
Install gapps
I've done this with numerous differnt kernels/ roms in different orders but nothing seems to work... Please help!
I have searched and can find nothing on this so any help is appreciated. I am not a complete noob but I am certainly not an expert (have been flashing for a couple of years...)
Thanks to anyone that has also had this and managed to fix it!!!
Thanks,
Rich
I only ever encountered this problem on one CM10 ROM. I believe it was TripNDroid's. No disrespect at all to his work, but I couldn't figure out how to fix it, so I tried a few other CM10 ROM's and haven't come across that problem since.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful...

Tried CM10,, never got this problem.
Anyway, to be honest the best camera is sense cam and when I was on CM10 I use UCAM from the market. give it a try and good luck
i got a Note 2 with a insane chip , ever since update from 4.1 to 4.x the phone freezes a few times a day.
is there any fix for this or apps/services that need to be removed to solve this ?
Have you wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache prior to flashing the 4.x ROM? Are you referring to 4.3 ROM? Follow the steps & reflash your 4.3 ROM.

everything was wiped , 4.2 freezes , 4.3 freezes , only the stock 4.1 was running ok
Strange. I have a N7100 with insane chip too. Samsung has claimed to resolved it since v4.1.2 release & I'm on 4.3 now. Touch wood, so far so good. Have you tried to flash N7100XXUEML6? This is the most stable release for N7100 (so far).

ok thx , i'll try hurricane rom
structures for v4.3 is very different from v4.1.2. If you don't wipe it completely then it is expected to carry forward the problem. search of super wipe to completely wipe the SDCard then install a new ROM. You can also find "Wipe for install new ROM" under custom recovery for the same purpose. Cheers.

Did all the wipes you can imagine , still no luck . it freezes the screen after 5 minits
I used SuperWipe from link below before flashing to 4.3. In your case, you may want to try MegaWipe if SuperWipe can't satisfy you. Back up your necessary data before running the wipe.

trying android revolution hd rom now
fingers crossed , seems to run normal ( for now )
Changing ROM wouldn't help, but may complicate the situation. Hold on, you're trying to install Revolution HD v19 from your existing v4.3? That is based on v4.1.2. The v20 is not yet released.

I recommend you to check if it is a freeze for SDS or from normal issue of phone. try using emmc brickbug check and run the memory test. if u passes it theoretically your mobby should be ok and it'll be a phone problem
hope i helped spmehow
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
I thought the insane chip/SDS problem was a hardware issue that could only really be solved by replacing the faulty chip...? I did a lot of searching on it and it looked like even if you changed firmware the problem would eventually resurface and brick your phone.
Mine died from SDS a while back, sent it in, Samsung replaced the board.
hey there,
so im using an s3 i747m on rogers(at&t) currently running the latest nighly on d2lte (04/24) and for the past 3 weeks i haven't been able to get my camera to work.
ive tried using twerp (always been using cwm), numerous different ROMS, multiple clean installs and nothing.
my modem is the: I747MVLUEMK5
My bootloader is : I747MVLUEMK5
im having a hard time doing anything and im seriously at this point stressing about just finding a replacement phone cause it feels like i permanently messed up my camera.
I know its not the actual camera cause usually after a cache/delvik wipe the camera will work for the the first time i open the app, and then will crash if i a) close the app 2) switch to front facing
ive also tried the restartcamera.apk
thank you
Do you have the same problem with other ROMs? Give Validus 13's ROM a try.

They're based on cm11. is there any other options you can recommend ?

Download the 4.3 rom from here for your carrier: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Launch Odin, place the downloaded file in the PDA section, uncheck auto reboot, flash, when you see Reset in the status window, disconnect the usb cable, remove battery, insert battery, boot to recovery, wipe data and cache, boot phone.

I just installed the correct one, followed the instructions, currently running stock TW.
BUT camera still messed up. worked on the first time i opened it and crashed immediately after I tried to switch to front facing. still getting "cannot connect to camera" error
Is it possible that your phone has a hardware problem?
Did you wipe the cache, data, and Dalvik before boot stock 4.3 ROM for the first time?

Only connect the battery and turn on check camera
Follow this thread to check your camera Firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/jb-4-1-2-camera-driver-t2006128
Good luck

So you think there's a hardware issue with my FFC ?
back on the CM 11 nightly 04/22 experimental release, the front facing camera worked solidly for a couple of hours, then it stopped again.

Delete all camera related apps from /system/app . Then flash the stock camera again to make it work. Do take a backup of Your current ROM though if anything goes bad.
