G'Day, i have been trying too run Phone2sdcard with no success. I have been in touch with the developers abd this is there claim..
The device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated.
On Galaxy SIII, the SD card is configured as a secondary external storage.
This is configured by Samsung. Nothing developers can do about this.
Please contact Samsung for details
I did, this was there answer:
Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Care.
It means that according to the makers of the application that because of the way the Samsung Galaxy S III is configured this application will not work with it. This configuration cannot be changed either so you will not be able to use that application.
I would suggest that you check the Google Play Store for an alternative application with a similar function and you may be able to find one that will meet your needs and can work with the Samsung Galaxy S III.
Does anyone know of an app that will do the job
Thanks

Alternative
There is a alternative (Directory Bind) but you will require root, it also requires some work but once you get it setup it works pretty well, certain games will load slower when put on the external card as its not as fast as the internal card.

Can we make a list of favorite applications (include a version number and link) and mention whether it can be run from the MiniSD card or not.
Thanks
There is a lot of information about this on the forum, just look around. Besides, favourite applications are all dependant on who you ask.
list is pointless

people can decide for themselves whether they like the apps or not.
This thread is meant to be a quick link to a stack of working apps and whether they can be run off your minisd card or not.
ie
TomTom6 can be run off the minisd, but hangs if more than
6 poi types are selected. (presumably times out)
Pocket e-sword must be run off the phone.

Just examples, there are lot more
I've asked this in various forums, since security is the #1 issue for me. I know there are already alot of apps to protect the phones and its contents....BUT is there anything stopping a thief from simply taking out the sdcard and putting it in another phone or reader to view and access the contents of the sdcard?
If you plan on storing personal info on the card, whether it'd be photos/files etc It would be really good to know that even if the sdcard is taken they still cannot access the info.
anything out there as yet? I would've thought this is a pretty common request.
something like trycrypt or storage crypt for the microsd card would be really good.
any help would be much appreciated.
thank you
I'd like to know this too.
(sorry to dig up an old thread but it's better than starting a duplicate one IMO)
To date, I haven't seen full SD card encryption software like we had on WM with Android. File and content encryption, yes (like BioWallet Signature or MyStash).

Just read this article

The interesting thing is that they must have been using the hidden API to be able to use card emulation.
From my experience with hotel nfc cards they often are Mifare UltraLight cards.
Maybe they are giving out special phones using a custom ROM made by samsung that has this enabled.
I'm currently checking the 4.1 sources to see if anything can be done with that.
So what do you guys think about this? If someone with access to this phone could dump the rom it could be easily checked with the current S3 and see the diff.
This is interesting but I think we will have to wait. The article says only 40 VIPs will get it to start, the odds of any of them dumping the the ROM is slim to none.

They have the Holiday Inn app on their phone, as shown on Engadget. I think there are already apps that let you copy NFC card data to your phone.

All it does is transmit what was copied on the card via NFC. But in my experience most hotels don't use NFC yet; they still use magnetic strip cards, which by the way can still be easily copied. Just because they're encrypted doesn't mean you can't just copy the raw encrypted data to another card. Check this out:

I've been to several new hotels which indeed use NFC Ultralight cards.
I'm saying that, to be able to use this data you've copied from a card onto your phone, you need to be able to make the phone emulate the same card as the one you copied from. And that is the interesting part.
I'm working on a patch for 4.1.1 (galaxy nexus) that will enable this option, same as the phones used at this olympic hotel.
Google Wallet works in the same way, doesn't it? Card emulation is built into Android, but for an application (like Google Wallet) to use it, it must hold the access keys to the secure element.
Samsung controls the secure element in the S3; writing an application that can access the secure element is no problem for them.
Also, someone above said something about just copying the 'raw data' from an 'encrypted' card. You'll need access keys to access the data stored in each sector, so I doubt that would work.

yes, it's correct that samsung has control over who has access to it, but it's easy to "add yourself" if you patch the software.
About the keys for each sector, this is no problem because the ultralight cards dont use any encryption, even for the classic cards the protection is broken. So this doesn't really matter, the point is that people should be able to create their own cards inside the phone for their own usage for example.

I've succesfully copied and cracked a Mifare classic card, thus accessing all the data in the sectors. It took me just over 10 minutes for a single card. But my interest is also, how can I put this card dump file on my phone and let the NFC chip push/emulate this card dump as a Mifare card?

Is there any reason it has to be your phone? Could you write the info to a mifare tag, and get the same effect? This would allow you to clone the card to a paper sticker.

The Problem is that you can't change the ID of the card. Most applications check (only) for the ID as it is (falsely) seen by many as unique and unspoofable. So an card emulator able to let you change the ID as handy as a smartphone would be really really nice

But this feature is normally not accessible in the phones - partly also because of these reasons.
You would have to obtain keys to the ecure element from the operator or the handset manufacturer and will surely not give it to you if you are not a bank or someone of a similar size
---------- Post added at 02:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:32 PM ----------
Perhaps you could also try to use an unofficial ROM, but I am not sure if that solves the problem
In order to emulate MIFARE Ultralight, you need the first UID byte = 0x04. NXP Semiconductors have introduced a restriction in their interface chips such that UID0 is hardwired to 0x08, meaning "random UID" according to their specifications. So even if hidden Android API get released, it will still not be possible to use the phone itself for MIFARE Ultralight tag emulation. However, EMUTAG emulator on emutag.com totally solves the problem by being portable, and can emulate any UID with almost no restrictions* (see Manual).
yeah its right.. i agree with you
Several people have asked about this, so here is something that will allow you to view photos on a Nexus 7 without rooting your device. You will need:
An OTG USB Cable. Any should do.
A USB Flash Drive or Flash Reader/Card
Some pictures
Nexus Photo Viewer (link below)
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.viewer
How is this possible without root? I coded a USB Mass Storage Driver and FAT16/32 file system reader in Android (Java).
This is all just a teaser to get you to buy the Nexus Media Importer that is coming soon. The importer will support Photos, Videos and Music when it's complete. All of you feeling the space crunch on those 8GB models will soon have some options. Eventually, I should have something that will allow you to stream from Flash without importing the media, but this is a start.
Update: The Media Importer and Streamer (V2.0.2) has been voluntarily temporarily taken off the market for the moment.
How about exFAT support for SDXC cards ? I'm using 64GB cards in my camera and I don't want to play with "wrong" formats and risk loosing my photos. So even if my camera would allow me to use FAT32 not sure if I don't get into problems.I don't care about write read only.I can not find any app , add in or even custom ROM with exFAT included.
This is the main concern.Second, if you add video playback don't forget AVCHD (preferably 2.0) support. And of course RAW formats would be nice. Anyway, a good start.
Issues....
I've tried a couple of different flash drives, both formatted to FAT32, and I can't get it to work for me. I'm on a stock Nexus 7--I was waiting for something like this before going through all the trouble (for a newbie) of rooting and unlocking.
Issues:
1) First, it simply, repeatedly told me my flash drives had no media.
2) I got it to see a couple of photos on one of my flash drives but, I couldn't open them or anything
3) It began to constantly fc itself--couldn't even open it anymore.
Uninstalled/re-installed a couple of times but, it's still a no-go here.
What flash drives is this working with?
Manufacturers/models? I want to say that most fl;ash drives are the same but, apparently they are not.
Excellent job. I really hope this comes to fruition because I'll be the first one in line to buy it!

After a lot of though, I think I'm going to roll the video and RAW functionality into Gallery Connect. It's pretty complex and Gallery Connect already has most of the components I need for RAW and video playback. As a bonus, you'll be able to stream it to another device.
exFAT is on the list, but it's not as well documented as FAT. It's also proprietary and MS isn't exactly giving out the spec.

It should work with any Flash drive that is formatted as FAT16 or FAT32. I'll try to provide better error handling for now supported file systems in the next release.
I can see the crashes in the dev. console and have identified at least one of the problems. Hopefully your drives will be fixed in the next release. Thanks for your patients.

That's C, but I can use it as a reference. There is a Java version called fat32-lib, which I started using, but it was too buggy. We have to walk before we fly.
Version 0.9.1
I just posted a new version to the market. If you get No Media, try to search again. It may find it the second time.
I guess I assumed this would work with all drives. That isn't so. It should work with more drives now. It should work with drives formatted on Windows or Canon cameras.
Known issues:
Does not work with drives not using MBR partitioning. I'll try to figure this out.
Does not work well with really slow controllers.
Version 1.0 Is Live!
Did a ton of work in the last few days (nights) and I got it working really well. I also published the Nexus Media Importer, which will allow you to import to your device.
Here's the link (it may take some time to become live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer
Seems to work really well in its very beta state. I am excited to see where the app can go. Also below are some features I would love to see. (Decided to post here as well so you could reply if you wished.)
-the ability to copy both ways from a memory card or just a mini file browser mode
-photo backup mode that remembers which photos from a card are already backed up so you can quickly backup new photos
-raw image support, I do not need thumbnails myself but the ability to copy raw formats or any file type would be great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I'm excited for this. I don't care to root my device (I have it set up like I like and don't want to wipe it to root it), but wanted a way to play movies off of a flash drive. Just waiting on the OTG cable to arrive.

Grabbed it too. Really looking forward to this apps development. :good:
Version 1.1 is Live
Should be available on the market soon. What's new:
Better File System Support
Multi-select and multi-save
Tabbed viewing
Faster Display/Photo Renderering
Photo shows image resolution
The Future:
Some way to select recognize and select new items from the card/drive
Reading file dates. Easy, just haven't done it yet.
As much as I was resistant to it, I think I'm going to cave to the pressure and try to get streaming video to work. It will probably be an in-app upgrade. That seems the fairest thing to do to the people that have already supported me. Frankly, I'm pretty excited about it myself. It's just going to be a horse and BUGGY ride for a while.
Possibilities:
Writing to the card/drive. Definitely doable. Scares the be-jesus out of me. I'm really concerned that I'll completely hose the card. I'm thinking this might involve a preference that you have to enable and agree that you are acting at your own risk.
File Manager View
Richer support for media types beyond photos. MP3 ID3 tag reading, MP4 meta data parsing.
Freakin sweet. This is one of the only things that was keeping me from selling my TF101, I like putting pics from my DSLR and phone onto my tablet but the Nexus makes it a real PITA without an sd card slot. Now all I need is an SD card and micro sd adapter and the correct cable :highfive:
Great update. Tested importing photos and video from my cameras SD card. For my uses (photo backup) its starting to become useful. Still need to be able to "select all" or even better for my use would be if it automatically selected all files that have not yet been imported. Also being able to choose the import folders so I can keep videos with the photos from that day. I do realize that this is not being designed purely for photo/video backup but my hope is it will function well for it.
Also the connection and copy process has been very reliable and very fast for me. I plan to do some testing with some other card readers I have as well.

Just tried a compact flash card from my DSLR and a different card reader. It sees the card fine but does not recognize .nef files as photos. I do not expect or think it needs to give previews for nef or cr2 (raw image) files but listing them so they can be copied would be great. Even if they were in a separate "all files" tab.
Keep up the good work and hopefully my input is somewhat useful

I can add .nef & .cr2 support (including thumbs), but they aren't supported by Android natively. You would need something like Gallery Connect to view them. Unfortunately, Gallery Connect won't be able to find them unless you type in the path to Pictures (for the moment). FYI: It's /scdard/Pictures
I plan on adding some sort of select all or select new.
I am not thrilled about the IAP plan either. It's the only way I can think of to provide what I consider premium functionality without buying another app. I didn't want to hit people twice. I guess the other option is an app that only does streaming, but I think that would be confusing.
Another option is just raise the price and provide import feature and streaming, but I'm not sure if there are some people that just want the import feature and don't care about streaming.
Hi Everyone,
To start, I would like to say that I have been a big Apple user for many years and I am making the change to Android to get a better understanding of the other side! I like what Google has to offer and looking for that experience.
I have chosen the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 as my first Android based tablet and have some particular questions for those who have purchased this unit. It is hard to find a straight answer when reading some of the other forums out there. Thank you everyone for your help with my transition!!
1, Is the Tab Pro 8.4 available with internal of 32 Gb memory? If so any idea when?
2, Has any who has purchased the Tab Pro 8.4 with 16 Gb internal memory has successfully trying in using Sandisk's latest 128Gb microSD which I understand it to be an SDXC card? Did it work and what amount of external memory did it give you?
3, Lastly, When downloading free or paid apps from Google Play, can the apps you install on device be stored and used from the microSD card rather than the internal memory?
Thanks again Everyone!
Welcome to Android Tablets.
Good choice on the 8.4. The Note 8.0 on the cheap would be another option.
1. Yes. There is 32GB but not very available right now. Mostly for international market than western market.
You can order it online from only a few places right now or wait another few weeks and it should be at more.
2. Yes. The 128GB card will work fine. It gives you 119GB available.
3. Partly. Some data can be stored on the card. This depends on the app. There are some workarounds to improve this.
But it's really going to depend on your use if that's even an issue.

to fully utilize that a SD card to its full potential you must root and use a program like folder Mount to move games and certain apps to the sd card. In addition to this you must change a script in permissions in order to bypass the kit kat limited sd card writing. Google, as always, is fighting micro sd cards as hard as they can. If you search you will find the tutorials on how to accomplish all these things very easily however be aware your knox counter will be tripped so your warranty will be void.

So as a whole from everyone's response, I understand know that there will be a 32 Gb unit available soon, That the new SDXC mircroSD 128 Gb card will work on the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and finally will be able to store apps to a certain degree.
When it comes to the Android tablet experience how important is storage space going to be when in the Google world?
My main purpose for the tablet will be to play stored or streamed music, watch movies hopefully that will be able to be stored quite easily on the microSD 128 card and finally games and some cool apps.
Now as you had mentioned rooting to allow for full usage of what you wish to store on microSD what are some good links or places where I can learn and understand to do it properly?
Thanks again this forum has been a great help!
For most media like images, movies, and any other bulk files. Those can be stored on the card without issue.
Much easier than iOS to manage files. It's basically drag and drop like a thumb drive. Once the files are there your app will pick up on them or can be pointed at them. Gallery app, music player, etc.
Games are the biggest issue of what you've mentioned if you are planning to have a bunch with large data files on the device at once.
Some store to the card better than others but if you want to have a lot of the biggest games it's best you get the 32GB.
You still have the workaround mentionrd above. That would be my chosen route but it depends on the person.

Thanks meboy for your response. So in a nutshell all storable items images, media and music can be reverted to the external SD card other than for the most part apps that are purchased or downloaded for free thru Google play. To get around this what was written earlier is to root your unit to all full controll which I am open too.
Now the final question out here is how do I root the tab pro 8.4 to do this? And when it comes to rooting is there different forms of rooting or just the one that does everything in terms of giving you full control of where you want to store apps that are downloaded?
