After rooting and installing CM9 on my friends OneX, it no longer will shut down and stay off (phone reboots automatically) and also wont boot in to recovery mode, it flashes up in a split second but just restarts the phone.
Ive tried flashing another recovery but to no avail...

That's not adb that command needs to be executed while the phone is in fastboot

[Q] Phone won't boot into recovery. Stuck on boot screen

I have the International version of the One X and I tried to flash CM9 to it today. Everything was fine until I booted it up and it got stuck on the boot screen. Thought it wouldn't be a problem and I'd just try redoing the steps.. However, every time I select recovery from the bootloader, it restarts my phone. If I then hold the power button, it will turn off and then restart without me telling it too. The only way I can switch it off is by quickly booting into the bootloader and selecting 'Power Down'. Any help or guidance would be appreciated!
Have you tried "fastboot erase cache" without the commas
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA venom premium
Yes. Didn't change anything. Still stuck on the bootscreen and restarts everytime I enter recovery. Just tried reflashing recovery too.
Could Installing the stock bootloader and starting again help? or will that make no difference?
Is there any way of completely clearing the system without using recovery?
Did you flash the boot.img in fastboot
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA venom premium
Yes, However I fixed the bootup problem by using the following:
1.) Wiped with fastboot rather than recovery:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
2.) Re-flash recovery (fixed booting into recovery (ONLY when fastboot wipe is done)):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
3.) Re-flash boot kernel:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
4.) Flash ROM and GApps using recovery
This worked fine BUT everytime I try and power down my phone it automatically restarts. This is incredibly annoying. The only way I can get it to turn off is to boot into fastboot and select power off. If my phone is plugged in it will still reboot after about 10 seconds which means I can't charge it unless it's on.
At least you got your main problem sorted

True. Thanks for your help too
I'm going to leave this to die, but if I can't fix my other problem I'll open a new thread.
In the mean time. If anyone knows a fix for this problem, please pm me! Thank you

Which version of recovery are you using? I seem to remember there was a problem with cwm recovery 5.8.3.1 maybe? Try flashing 5.8.4.0 if not done so already

Clockwork Touch 5.8.2.4
I've just seen that the ROM I've been using (TripNDroid's) has been updated to version 005. Working Wi-Fi!
Just spent the whole day setting up my phone.. Kinda annoying.
I'm gunna try flashing that and see if it fixes the problem. Will post here when I've tried it

Now I remember. Problem is with touch recovery. Only install 5.8.4.0.

Installed Touch Recovery 5.8.4.0. Phone still reboots when switched off and cannot boot into recovery mode.
Boots up fine so it mostly isn't an issue but I was hoping to do a nandroid backup via recovery which is looking unlikely.
When i flashed cm9 for the first time, i got the same issue, i was stuck at boot screen...but at least i could boot into recovery, and from there, i used android revolution hd superwipe script, and then did the flashing process again...worked fine after that. So my main point is, if u can boot into recovery, from there you need to do a wipe script or wipe data/factory reset and THEN flash cm9...

Custom ROM won't boot

Hey!
I decided to install a new custom ROM. I went from Revolution HD and tried Viper v2.0, after installing it, my phone has been refusing to boot. (I used Revolution HD Super wipe before installing Viper v2.0) It freezes at "htc quietly brilliant" and stays there and doesnt do anything. Ive jumped into bootloader several times, first i tried the obvious and start Recovery. But everytime I press recovery i can see the "Clockwork recoverymode" for about 0.5 seconds, then some sort of loading and then it reboots and goes back to the startup screen and stays there. Ive alos tried the factory reset, but that didnt work either, so now im wondering what to do and im a little worried.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks alot!

Have you chosen the fastboot option in the boot loader, plugged in the usb before trying to talk to your phone with fastboot?

This problem happened to me a while back, it causes due to cache getting accumulated, fastboot erase cache got my CMW recovery working again..
i dont know why isnt it working in your case..
And about ROM not booting looks like boot.img problem, i hope u made a nandroid

[Q] HELP !! :(

Hi everybody ,
I have a rooted Desire HD with Jelly Time R10 and it was working like charm.
Yesterday the phone rebooted by itself and got stuck at the boot animation
I tried to wipe cache + dalvik and I was able to pass the boot animation and then got stuck again while loading application.
I pulled out the battery then started the phone but it WONT boot. It vibrates 3 times with orange flash and when trying to boot into bootloader it vibrates 5 times with a solid green led
Then I used ADB and I was able to access the recovery but not the bootloader or the system, if I used adb reboot I get the same issue.
I performed a full wipe then restored a backup nothing changed.
Any ideas please ? Is it the bootloader causing this problem ?
What can I do to fix this?

I'm pretty sure you can at least try to get the RUU to recognise the phone, as adb recognized it, so it should be able to kick it into fastboot mode

[Q] One V Won't boot/stuck in a boot loop

Hi! All my problems became today, when I decided to root that samsung ROM. I used evervolv (old version) I red the instructions and I flashed kernel and boot.img with the htc one V all-in-one toolkit. It said that: "boot.img flashed" I was like: nice, and continued, did full wipe, and wiped cache then I flashed ROM and update. I tried to boot, but it did not boot. After waiting for about an hour I decided to do something. I was able to get to fastboot, and I flashed boot.img manually trough adb and fastboot, did everything like before, and still no boot.
I decided to try some else rom, because I have SD- card reader in my laptop. I putted sphongle to SD- card and I was able to get to fastboot, flashed boot.img, and flashed ROM. Phone was not able to boot, and it just got stuck in a boot loop. I tried samsung again, and now I can only get to recovery or to the white HTC- screen, that has text about build being for developement purposes only. Does anyone have any ideas how-to get my phone back to life, or is it totaly dead? Answes appreciated =)

Are you flashing correct kernel check that first.
sent from HOV
powered by sphongle 4.2.2
Hmm... I'm pretty sure that I flashed right kernel, but now I can't get to fasboot screen. Only to ClockWork mod recovery. When I boot device, and press vol. down, and power, it always goes to recovery, or if I start to press those buttons a bit later, it only goes to that white HTC screen with red text. =(
E: After a while phone turns screen off, vibrates, and makes the screen again, so some kind of boot loop i guess?

[Q] Can't get past HTC splash screen after root

I am so stuck with this problem and have been searching forums for answers for days...Also, I am new at this. After much trial and effort I managed to
1. unlock my htc one x bootloader
2. install CWM recovery
3. install cyanogen mod
AND, it worked....however there were none of the google apps (gapps). So I downloaded them on the phone, went into CWM recovery and installed them from there. My phone restarted, then turned off. It now won't reboot.
It loads only as far as the HTC quietly brilliant logo. I can access bootloader through the power/vol.down keys. Then when I select 'recovery', it simply goes back to the "splash screen" described earlier.
I figured I would just try to reflash CWM and start over, but every time I flash CWM (and I have tried hundreds of times), the command lines say it has been done, but the phone just boots back to the splash screen again, and hangs there.
How do I get my phone back working again?
Many thanks in advance, and your patience is appreciated

If so try to flash another recovery just like Philz_Touch recovery.
thanks for your reply...i had already attempted Philz recovery 5.11.2, and just tried again. And again, the cmd box says it is written and finished, done and OKAY. Yet when I reboot or try to go to recovery, the phone immediately reverts to the splash screen still. Open to any ideas, and feel free to ask as many questions as needed...thanks Virgolib
Do the command " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" ?
that's exactly the command i typed, but no luck!

Anyhow now you just do power off the phone for sometime and try it again, good luck.
Thanks for your suggestions anyway...does anyone else out there have a solution?
Try this: fastboot erase cache, boot in recovery
If that does not solve your problem, erase cache, turn off device from bootloader and then try to enter recovery

Your recovery is fine just go back to bootloader and type in fastboot erase cache and then boot back to recovery.
Yep fastboot erase cache should do the trick indeed. Then start over with a full wipe !
Install CM rom, install gapps and then reboot. It doesn't work with a reboot in between !

i have tried all those things many times...the moment i attempt to enter recovery, the phone just goes straight to the htc quietly brilliant screen.
but just to be certain i am completing the steps right, i open a command window and type the prompt; fastboot erase cache
the pc tells me it is done
i then manually through the volume buttons select the recovery option and press power to execute
just a thought gents, my bootloader indicates that my battery is low. i have been using this command script i found to charge it a little, but it doesn't seem to charge it much...could the low battery be the cause or at least contributing to my problem?

hi mr Hofs, you seem to be the Don on this site!!!
I have tried everything suggested...relocked, unlocked, reflashed etc, but still, keep getting stuck on that htc quietly brilliant screen when trying to enter CWM recovery (or Philz recovery)
anything else i can try?
Uhm well i am not sure about this one. But lets keep on trying. I'm gonna put some random questions out
1: original HTC usb cable
2: directly usb 2.0 port on pc (not via hub or extension cords)

Yes, I am using the original white HTC cable and i am going directly into my computer's usb plug...sorry for the lag in response, i am in australia so probably sleeping when u reply, but thanks for your continued help.
i am certain it's not bricked, as when i relock then unlock, i get the screen on my phone asking me if i am certain that i want to unlock it. it also responds to my command prompts in the black command window.

Hi Treebill. I am using recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
This worked the first time, just doesn't seem to be working now. I have also given philzrecovery a go, to no avail.
Tried it all again this morning;
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
(and just for good measure),
fastboot erase cache...THEN
reboot bootloader...THEN
phone just goes to htc splash screen and hangs...also i try manually entering recovery through the vol.down/power buttons, with the same result
Also, i am not even trying to flash gapps right now, just get the phone back working. However i was pretty certain I was using the right version when i originally did flash gapps...
What if you reboot to recovery via command ?
Fastboot reboot recovery
Make sure you delete all recovery image files in the fastboot folder, download and copy a brand new one to the fastboot folder and rename the file to recovery.img
Then flash it
