First to say hi, as this is my first post in Xperia arc subforum, cause I get my arc S just a few days ago.
I have a rather silly and stupid question, but I'm curious to know what is this "bootloader status" line in flashtool log means.
I was just doing basic routine of flashing back stock gb rom, after I tested ics for a few days, and I noticed this line in flashtool, which I seems to never noticed before, which says something like, bootloader status: ROOTABLE.
What is confusing me, is that I haven't tried rooting or bootloader unlocking on this phone yet, as it is just a few days old, and the rom I was flashing is the last .69 gb version, the one that can't be easily rooted.
So, is this log normal for a bootloader locked phone, with just a few simple flashings done till now, or I somehow messed up something (I don't know how could I, in the first place).
Thanks, and sorry for such a basic question.
Flashing a ftf file won't need root or unlocked bootloader cuz' Sony update their software via Flash Mode too.
But for further advice, please post screenshot so we can see your "problem"
Oh and this should be in General, Android Development isn't a place for questions
wrong section
go to Q & A ...
ROOTABLE seems like your phone can be root ( it wasn't rooted)

This means you can unlock your bootloader by the official way as mentioned here.
And please from next time post your questions in Q & A Section, this is the development sub-forum. Read the instructions and stickies first.

This seems to be legible explaination.
Well, I was just curious (read: paranoid) that I messed up something related to bootloader on my 5 days old phone after just a few simple ftf flashings. And I swear I flashed/unlocked-relocked bootloader my old XPERIA X10 Mini Pro for a 123056 times, and I never noticed this line in flashtool. Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention good enough...
Anyway, thanks for the reply. Someone above mentioned posting screenshot to explain issue further. Well, there is no issues at all. The phone is working perfectly, but I just wanted to know what does this two lines means:
INFO - Flashing loader
INFO - Loader : S1_Loader_Root_773f - Version : R4A066 / Bootloader status : ROOTABLE
Now I know, I suppose...
And sorry for posting in wrong section. Stupid mistake, even more considering I'm not new at all on these forums. I hope mods will move this to right section.

Those two lines are just information about the bootloader and its status. Nothing to worry there.
Some phones' bootloader cannot unlocked by following the official way. For them, the status will be different.

I already checked service menu, and found this. Thanks for the info again.
Somehow I convinced myself that this started appearing yesterday (but it was probably there from the first flash, just that I haven't noticed), and I thought that something went wrong with flashing.
Like I said, I flashed my old X10 Mini Pro for thousand of times, and I never noticed this bootloader info line in Flashtool.
No problem mate..
Btw, nice gallery you have on dArt..

Hi Guys!
I'm sorry if this question has been asked a gazillion times, but I want to know what I'm getting into first as I am new to rooting.
I have a Sony Xperia Ion (LT28i) with Jelly Bean on it (4.1.2). I was simply wondering if the process outlined in this thread would work:
[Tutorial][ION] Flashing Firmware and Rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812168
Once again, sorry for a repeat but I'm not exactly sure about what my firmware is etc.
Thanks!

yes that will work..go to settings>about phone> and you will find all the info abt ur software versions...u are basically looking for build number here..
Build Number is:
6.2.B.0.211
Therefore since it appears to be the most recent firmware, I can simply skip to the rooting portion of the guide correct?
Thanks, I've been hoping to get my phone rooted to get rid of all the bloatware.
You guys are awesome!
I have attempted to root the device to no avail. Does the firmware have to be flashed over? Or can I use the firmware currently on it. If it has to be flashed over, my phone does not appear to have drivers in the flash tool. Can I flash without installing a driver?

u have an unlocked bootloader or locked???
I believe it is locked as I have not done anything to the phone besides upgrading to JB from ICS. I used the Sony PC Companion to do so as well.
Edit: Bootloader is locked and apparently cannot be unlocked. (According to System info)

It doesnt matter...can you tell me the steps that you did briefly and where you faced the problem?
Sent from my Micromax A110 using xda app-developers app
It tells me to use the display system check but it just gets stuck hanging at a white screen on my phone and the program does not continue from there. If you could tell me the version of the root program and which option to use, I might be able to do it, but I've tried a few different versions of it with different options. Not exactly sure what I can do.
Edit: Do I have to flash my firmware before trying to root? It doesn't say anywhere that I have to, however could that be what's not allowing me to root?

This method doesnt work with your .211 fw. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&highlight=root+211+ion
I've tried that thread's root method. All I keep getting is a screen that it pauses at basically indefinitely, and none of the other root options work.

Hi, here you go, link to flashtool DB link
Did it on my Z1C, locked bootloader
1. If You are on .157 firmware, flash .108 kernel only
2. Root your device (i used EasyRoot link to DB EasyRoot
3. After rooting flash .157 kernel only
4. Install recovery Dualrecovery, superSu
5. Enjoy
now I have root this phone its now literally 8 hours or more
anyway how do i check if have rooted my phone and if its rooted what is the basic this that i need to do after rooting
the main reason i rooted my phone is to move apps on SD card and I want to erase all the data from recovery so how to do it?
what does Dualrecovery do ? why I need to install this

Ok, I tried to help, but it seems that you need to do some research about recovery and supersu and find out what is that you want to do after root.
In About phone only way to identify kernels version is it's build date. On screenshot attached you can see that build date is Oct 9th, it's 157 firmware.
Other way to check is just connect your phone to flashtool and it should show all firmware details. And third way is *#*#73784237#*# services menu.

I was very confused and angry because i have spend the whole day trying to do it and that day the internet was slow it made me very angry
There was article here but no way to find it between millions of others.
Good advice for beginners.
Don't scream "give me", "tell me"...
All those things were described thousand times.
Read. Read. Read. Learn.
You were angry because you lost whole day?
If you won't learn - tomorrow you will come with next question or - worse - bricked phone.
Having root and not knowing what it can do and how to manage it is like playing football using grenade as ball.
I've read some thousands posts before I even started fiddle with my device.
Reading took me a month. And I know Linux.
You know how it is. It is your money on risk. ...
Even advices given here not necessarily are always 100% correct or fit your situation.
You must be able to evaluate them.

WORD! This can not be stressed enough. although a month and a thousand posts seems a bit excessive to me. Any sane person should invest a few hours of searching, reading and learning before they start to fiddle around with their phone worth hundreds of dollars. Know what you are doing! Always remember: You can break your phone irreparably.
I remember the article you meant, it was on the XDA portal once. This clip also illustrates the point nicely. We've all seen it, but some might ned to take it to heart again...

I started read XDA forum two months BEFORE I even bought smartphone.
I wanted to know which one is good/reliable and which is troublemaker.
Then I bought 120$ device to play with.
After a year I bought Xperia Z1C which appeared on market exactly in the moment when I was looking for good powerful phone.
Does this mean it is un-rootable?
Goddam but Virgin fones are a pissoff.
Should I return this phone?
Or is there any possibility of a way to fix this?
I learnt the same lesson. It's sad that carriers can restrict what we do with our phones here in north America while if you buy this same phone anywhere else in the world, it's rootable.
I've had mine a few months now and still no way of rooting.

ok, so the idea is that I flash the combination file, go in to dev. settings and set OEM unlock, then reflash the phone with normal firmware, and carry on with rooting as normal? will this allow me to install twrp?
thank you for your reply, and thank you in advance for any info that helps!

no , when you enabled dev settings, enable OEM unlock , then reboot to bootloader and unlock it , then u can root with magisk by patching the AP of the firmware you need

BK,
Ok, I'm sure you're going to think I'm a retard, but I wanna be sure I understand correctly.
So i:
1)flash combination file
2) Boot phone up
3) enable developer settings
4) enter developer settings, and enable OEM unlock.
5) Ok, here is where I'm a little unsure of what you mean:
"Reboot to bootloader and unlock it"
6) root with magisk.
The number 5 slot (above) is what I am having trouble with....
And then I use my pc to root the AP of the proper firmware before I flash it with Odin on to the phone?
Wait..I'm getting that part wrong too, I think.... shoot
Oh gosh. I'm screwing this up. Please advise here too...
And will TWRP be possible afterwards?
Excuse my asking about what I'm sure is obvious....
I have rooted and enjoyed the results on several LG phones and my old tab4, and I would enjoy the same freedom with this phone, as I quite like it.
Thank you again for being willing to advise.
Regards
K

I mucked around for a bit with a cracked z3x for a bit, but it was an older version, and didnt have A705W listed.
I'm still game to try, but thought I'd see if somebody here had any advice....
Please help, if anyone can.
Thank you
I am kinda in the same position as you...
I've been wanting to root for a while but this oem unlock thing with my Virgin a705w is annoying
I don't really want to risk bricking my phone or whatever so I was hoping someone could do it first.
I found this website with pit files if they're any use: full-repair-firmware .com/p/galaxy-a70-sm-a705xx.html
(remove the space before the .com; I can't post links on xda)
pls let me know if you can get it working

Hey BK.
Thank you very much for your input!
I've only rooted my LG phones previously..
Samsung has a few more twists it seems!
I thought it might be worth asking you if you had any info on that error I mentioned below, the "please get approval to use factory binaries (abl) or (pit)" problem?
I've seen some stuff, applicable to the error ending in (pit), but have not seen anything referring to the (abl) version of the error, which is what I am experiencing....
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated....and by more than just me, I'm sure!
Thank you again

hi. i got interested in this phone and seems to have decent rom support. since the last update i have some doubts with unlocking bootloader:
first, people is panicking this update broke many things, and users are not sure bootloader is unlockable anymore. this is a must for me, please confirm me if that got ruined for this update or still works.
second, people also mentions about a code and i'm confused. the pinned guide says is as simple as one command, but users report they are being requested an special code the phone gives you. chow does this work? if i want to get the phone from a previous owner would it mean i can't access that code? what oneplus asks for exactly?
thanks for your time
I don't know what code you are talking about. Just follow the guide, be sure what you are doing and be sure how to get things right if something is going south.

I couldn't tell you all the OEM's that wouldn't allow unlocking, I think T-Mobile in the US is one but mine (from Three UK) isn't limited in that way.
If you reboot to bootloader and run "fastboot oem unlock" after enabling that setting above and it fails then your bootloader is locked by oem

Generally, if the phone is SIM-locked the "OEM Unlocking" will be greyed-out and you can't toggle it until you SIM-unlock your phone.
On T-Mobile, for example, once you SIM-unlock the phone, you run a command in Fastboot to get your phones unlock code.
Once you have your bootloader's unlock code, you submit a request on OnePlus' Unlock Token page.
Devices bought directly from OnePlus should be unlockable out of the box.
Hope this helps!

Thers is no deep testing app released for realme c21
Instead you can use mtkclient.
Steps are explained there as noob friendly, but you can still ask here when you stuck.

There is also a rooting method.
Can I do it without unlocking the bootloader?
if that was a stupid question please forgive me
@Zartazor
One of the steps is erasing the data.
The rooting method is same as general method, but you are going to flash boot image through mtkclient instead of fastboot.
I did process via unlocking bootloader, so i not sure about rooting without unlocked bootloader.

Did you flash the empty vb-meta and erase metadata, userdata, md_udc ?
Actually i am currently using RU1 and will update to RUI2 soon.
But since smiley.raver done rooting RUI2, i think there is no additional step .
I will try that again
Thanks, u so much bro, I have successfully unlocked the bootloader
and rooted using magisk
thanks for every help u gave me

Glad to hear you succeed, enjoy your rooted phone
Further to this, any bootloader unlock will wipe devices. As a new person to rooting and bootloader unlocking, search the forums, but you will always find any process if bootloader, flashing rom, even twrp flash. It is always common sense as well as just good practice to back up your data, because these processes do not always work 100% the same for everyone on everyone with the same deviice.
This is because new people flashing phones don't realise that a small shuttle difference could have different firmware parameters even though both realme c21.

This is a prime example of if you looked in the forum for c21 same place this was posted. There is already a post by myself stating bootloader unlocked and root available.
How to root C21 with locked bootloader
https://github.com/bkerler/mtkclient please note that I will make a proper procedure in this post shortly. but in the mean time, you WILL need linux to be able to root your phone, as windows process does not work., while using linux, need to...

Trust me
These and similar articles you find are unfounded articles memorizedly written to generate network traffic to their own pages.
We've been here for a few months, when something new is done, of course the appropriate thread will be opened here and everyone will be able to access it when a new content out.
Also the twrp link you gave does not mention for which system is, (Like RUI1 or RUI2).

Instead of asking. How about you try flashing it yourself? And then reporting if it is actually working or not.
We have a work in progress recovery. Please read the forums you are posting in an stop doubling up questions on multiple threads, as this is against XDA rules.
I am currently in progress of compiling the device tree that has been completed.

Brother, I'm not that old. My dad brought me a phone and this Phone is all I have. If I flash it and something goes wrong I will be screwed.
I'm a new member of XDA family and I don't know how they work exactly.
Please forgive me if I made any mistake.
Sorry...
It's all part of learning. Luckily androids are near impossible to kill.
But as a new member read the XDA rules as well as read the other posts before asking.
