Hey, I'm a Vibrant guy and was helping a friend with his Epic try and flash CWM thru Odin 1.6.1.
Started Odin and it just hung... now the phone does nothing on boot but I still can get to download mode.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Belongs in q & a. And theres a thread stickeyd explaining how to revive it. It'l be a long download though, about 200mb iirc

Try odin'ing without the battery or sd card. If that fails use heimdall. Are you checking re-partition and using a pit file? An EPIC pit file?
Before admin closes the thread... which slot in Odin are you putting the .tar? PDA or "Phone"?

Thanks, forgot about Heimdall
victory_8G_100528.pit, SPH-D700-EC05-8gb-REL.tar and checks on re-partition, reboot and rest time
Using Pit and PDA
Only check should be in reboot. That's your problem.

i used this hemdall works good miss some of the themes from muina but this is really stable and fast for a stock rom like the continuum should've always been
So, can this rom be flashed to phone if it's running ec07 or does it need to be downgraded first?
Well, what i been doing is flashing this on top of DL17, but i am pretty sure you can flash on top of EC07, but i cant actually confirm this because i have not tried flashing over it.

I'm not sure if Abby did the ota but assuming not, it would probably be safer to flash over 07, than any other Rom . That being said, if you have the ability to downgrade then get the ota , I would go that route.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using Tapatalk
I did the what? Well these files were extracted as soon as 2.2.2 finished loading from the OTA update. Only thing changed was being rerooted. For the peeps that dont want to wait for the long download time. With this said, do not select repartition because it does not include a bootloader and other necesary files, but I will include them in the next file
Deodexed with minor debloat will be up by the morning, sorry for the wait.

Hmm...weird, try flashing Ec07 odex (relproduction) first with repartition on, they try this image with repartition off, btw it uses i500 pit
Sent from my SCH-I400 using Tapatalk
Could either be that your phone is using an i400 pit or just a heimdall error, just checked it out and uploaded fine. But i'll look further into it, I apoligize for any inconvenience

I just want to understand what really happens when a phone is hardbricked. Like what is it that keeps it from turning on and why wont it just boot into download mode after the wrong rom is flashed. And what does jtag do that it allows it to boot again also why does it goes into something like qshub dload what is the true purpose for that and how is it that qpst can detect it can anybody answer these questions it would really help thanks

Hard brick is most commonly achieved by flashing a rom for a different phone than what you have. It rewrites the partitions in the phone to one that the phone can't use. That's why nothing works after a hard brick
JTAG rewrites everything back the way it should be.

Hard Brick can be from flashing or messing with bad bootloaders (or even mixing them) as well. While that doesn't really happen on the S3 (since they made it really hard to brick it at the first place), it's seen a lot of other devices.
Hi. Before flashing PA I was on 1317m Rogers but after it switched to n7105. There's no problem with that right? Btw everything is working perfectly.

You can easily change it by editing build.prop using root explorer. Open root explorer, system press n hold build.prop use text editor then change model to l317M.
Thanks!

But what I'm trying to ask is instead of going to at&t and try to find a Rom that will work for my phone I can go to the GTn7100 and GT n1707 section and flash a Rom without any problems right?

Sorry my bad, I would stay away from N7100 and N7105 section. There so many N7100 and N7105 ported rom for our device in att section so just use the ones from here. If read the changelogs of some roms here you will see MF2 roms are originally from N7xx roms.
Edit..
Flashing rom made for N7xx device can mess up your modem, imei etc. I
Thank you much much for this info. I did try to flash a n1700 Rom once and like you said I didn't get any connectivity on my Rogers carrier even when I found a modem to flash, and ended up having to go back to stock plus factory resets which is such a pain

Brick like dead screen, not responding to anything or wont show n your computer when connected to usb or simply expensive paper weight. Only way to revive it flash via jtag etc. There is also soft brick where its only black screen but you can still flash roms via Odin and flashing wrong rom can cause soft brick too.

What he said above...
There is also a corrupt efs partition. If you didn't have it backed up you have no imei, and so you have a phone that can turn on but can't connect to any network, this can be permanent and has happened to people from flashing n7100 roms

yeah hard bricked or corrupted efs both suck :/
I have never bricked a phone and been using android since early 2009.
I'm crazy cautious
Back up of EFS is a must too, it is a good habit that you always have nand, modem csc patch and efs back up saved to you external card or computer.
Once your a little more familiar with your phone this is a good thread to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411. For the most part the i317 and 7105 are identical except for modem and gps files DO NOT FLASH A 7100 ROM Unless it has been modded following the posted thread. Personally i have been using Jedi x17 it has everything i want extended boot menu,Lidroid 23 toggles, speed tweaks etc... Now i have made my own modifications as well (status bar, speedometer and ringtones) I also have been working on modding MA3 rom as well in my spare time but really Jedi works just fine. Just my two cents. Good Luck and have fun,Dave
I've search everywhere. What is the proper procedures? Heard bricking would happen when done wrong. I cant find any of my files after updating... thats my main reason going back. (/0/0/0/) issues. Unless someone know the fix for that. Otherwise 4.3 is ruining my life Thanks in advance.

Just move the files manually. Use a computer or a file manager, doesn't really matter (only one /0 - /data/media/0). Update your recovery, too.
You can flash a 4.1.2 ROM, but do not flash any < 4.3 firmware.
I tried using e3 file explorer. No luck. I can't even see the files to move.
So if I install a 4.1.2 Rom. Do I need to flash the MD5 modem? Or it will work with them 4.3 modem?

You need to use the file manager to navigate to /data/media. You will be able to see everything from that location. I admit, it's more complicated/confusing than it should be, but it's mostly for backwards compatibility.
