Developing Roms/apps - HTC One X

Hi, just wondering what kind of experience or knowledge you might need to develop roms or apps for android. And is it all done in java? I've done a couple of java prog units through RMIT. What level of programming would developing for android require?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I think a good place to start is in >> Chef Central if you like to learn about cooking or other development.

I wanna learn about this two. I did a few tweaks on cydia for iPhone BB Repo but I switched to android now. The android kitchen don't work for our phone. What else can I/we use to sign a custom rom?

Becoming a dev .

Hey guys am curious to how hard it is to start developing . I'm not in I.T industry but have a passion for technology . Would like to get into the development side. Is it possible to be self taught. I know my way around a computer reasonably well. Just wondering if its possible or in the too hard basket ?
Maybe someone could point me in the right direction ?
Thx

Learn basic java first, then C&C++.
you can find lots of resources on the net, especially from lynda and Dummy books.
btw if you want to develop things for android, it is suggested that you are fluent in linux
That sounds like it would take a few years to master. Wasting my time u reckon?

[Q] HTC Desire Ice Cream Sandwich ROM

Is it possible that ICS will get to the normal HTC Desire AMOLED as a ROM? It would've been nice if it happened! I'd love to if someone made a ROM for the normal desire AMOLED with stock HBOOT and no bugs plus an OTA update URL! . It would've made my year and christmas! So what do you think? Do you think that the big developers will try to do this, or do you think they will just forget the desire and be lazy and mean and only support new phones? Please answer!
I guess only time will tell.
Hi,
I see you posted two threads one barely less senseless than the other. I was wondering what have you been smoking lately coz I want some of that too?

Yay. I want the ice cream and all de other puddings on ma fone. HTC will be do that soon me think. Manager of HTC shop and head of HTC fan boy club say its possible if dev manage to fix issues with loose buttons the screen can take the measure but backwards engineering will be possible to make it happen. 3 cheers for devs and xda and happy fun for everyone who likes chocolate cake in their fones

In all due respect. After reviewing all your posts, all 6 of them. I feel it necessary to say, stop demanding answers or roms from devs and gain some basic knowledge about android and how big companies such as HTC operate (hint: you bought the phone, it's now obsolete, no they don't care about you.) Be thankful we have such intelligent and generous devs who keep the desire alive. They have no obligation to create any rom or answer any question even if their rom broke your phone. I'm not saying you are stupid or disrespectful simply you should think before posting.
I have to say I never thought there'd be an industry in which Apple was the flag-holder for long-term device support. All the Android device manufacturers suck, really... I'd be quite surprised to get ICS on my Atrix, let alone my Desire

The question is not when but if Desire can handle ICS without problems.
On the other hand I wonder if HTC will make Sense for ICS. Time will tell.

I wanted to start that , but it seems like nobody other than s_off can do it , as for the internal memory has to be resized for the system to fit ...
this thread will house the ROM when it is finished

Indeed but we can strip and png crush
We could also attempt something like system2ext - for now we will probably use repartitioning zips as most of us devs are s-off.
Edit: it looks like using the SD for system is easy due to the way we can pretend it's part of the internal memory

I never really liked squashed roms.. but may have to pull the squasher out.
Hardware sounds strikingly similar.. anybody know of any other differentials other than [its] arm7 vs [our] arm6?

Just a different instruction set, no real problems, only really for game porting. Some libs will need to be changed.
The reason why it is hard to port games to armv6 is because v7 supports floating point calculation.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using xda premium
It does support it better; although the armv6l does have a lil virtual floating point. Main thing is you'd probably have to rewrite shaders for gaming. Luckily, that's not where we're at
Built on ics I assume... 4.0.x; x=?
Nice.. jik..,mind.., I mean einstein.frat has a 3.0 kernel; that may come in handy.

this is imposible port, its like porting symbian 3 to an X6. I'll just wait for an idogx port if this is possible, then I start modding as usual.

If you're really desperate for space then alarms, notifications and ringtones can be stored on the sd card under /sdcard/Media/ in their respective folder.

Ubuntu did say it should run on any phone with a 1ghz+ (stock speed) processor. So in theory it should but it's all up to the developers. we get the roms that they would want on their devices and that's exactly the way it should be.

Hey every body calm down first yes Ubuntu is and will be difficult i would like to see it but it is far past my knowledge and as far as i know it may not be possible for u who didn't read up on it yes 1± processor is a requirement but they also say dual and no device under our ram will be able to soppurt Ubuntu so if it is possible I'm sure it will come. So until then cut people some slack and as ur momma's should of told u if u don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all

no, they said the ubuntu phone version that could also be used as a full desktop when mounted on the docking station which is connected to a tv/monitor. for only the phone os part you dont need dual core.

I know nothing about it, and am eager to learn. Where to start............?!?!

+1 on learning java, then maybe some android SDKs, along with Eclipse software. You learn all this, your well on your way. Java will definitely take the longest to learn.

You can go to googles Dev site and watch the countless tutorials on android development. Also YouTube has toms of mini series covering all aspects of a android development if you are a visual learner I would highly recommend watching these series. Try to find the newest set possible. ICS or newer as the api has changed drastically and so has the adtt plugin for eclipse. Also you can find the eBook beginning android development in PDF form its pretty good and is also based on ICS and newer. Between all that you should be able to pick it up.
