Unofficial how to set up ps3 Sixaxis controller App thread - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

I have seen so many fellow members having trouble setting up ps3 dual shock to play games on android phones and tablets. So I'm starting this to help out the noobs trying to get their gaming fix on .
You need
1. A rooted Android device 2.2 plus
2. Official Sony ps3 dual shock controller
3. Sixaxis app from Google play store
4. A PC with the sixaxis pair tool downloaded from http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/about.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8cU1DBxuLQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
With that in mind watch this video I created covering the basics for profiles and initial set up.
I am in no way shape or form responsible for what you break or screw up. Nor am I affiliated with dancing pixels project.
This thread is for people to share profiles and settings they may use and for others who need help if they are experiencing problems.
Keep in mind using different display dpis will throw off profiles if they are shared.

What I did is:
1) downloaded/installed that sixaxis pair tool
2) plugged the PS3 controller into my computer
3) downloaded/installed sixaxis controller app to my Nexus 7
4) started the sixaxis controller app and hit Start, let it get to listening for controllers then I hit Stop
5) started the sixaxis pair tool
6) In the pair tool I changed the master to match the "local bluetooth address" at the bottom of the controller app screen on my Nexus 7
7) Unplug PS3 controller
8) On the Nexus 7 I hit Start again, wait for listening to controllers again
9) Hit the PS button on the PS3 controller

U have to make sure the Bluetooth address on your controller matches exactly that off your tablet. And make sure it is a official ps3 controller.

HOw do I do this on linux? I just paid for the app and i'm rooted and I have two original ps3 controllers.

Download sixpair for Linux. I believe from here

Thanks! worked perfectly!

The instructions here are somewhat out of date, all pairing with PS3 controllers in Sixaxis Controller can now be done on the device itself via a USB OTG connection. No need to PC clients or anything like that. I have a video in my youtube channel showing how to do it now and how to set up touch emulation profiles. Will post it later when I get home.

Some people do not have an OTG cable!

And out of date how. Many devices don't have a USB host so your otg cable dont work. ONLY a select few were deemed even remotely working for the nexus 7. And its pretty self explanatory if u have an otg cable that works along in the app that will recognize your controller.

I get it to connect, but none of my buttons are active, even with the native support games. Not sure how to remedy this situation.

In my experience it takes a little while to get the hang of configuring things in the sixaxis app
Just need to practice away and you will get there,

First time usng ths app and im impressed. I thought dead trigger was fun with touch but i kept accidentally reloading when i want to either aim or fire. I can already tell im going t blow alot of cash for games on the nexus 7. All i need now is a case with a kickstand or cover that will hold it upright.

Here's a DIY for tablet stands. I personally use the DVD case and its been the best for me using a pipe cleaner instead of string so i can adjust the viewing angles

Gametel wireless controller for Xperia arc

http://gametelcontroller.com/
The Gametel wireless controller is set to launch in time for Christmas for the low price of £49.95.
Read more from:
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Android/Gametel+wireless+game+controller/news.asp?c=35266
I've just been reading about this myself, see http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/17/ga...android-phone-into-an-xperia-play-but-better/
It's not clear at this point if this will basically behave like an Xperia Play controller or not. They mention it will work in Asphalt 5 HD, but no mention of other Play-enabled games like NOVA 2 or Aftermath XHD.
Definitely worth watching this though, if the reviews are positive and it works with all the Play-enabled games (maybe with some hacking?) it will be on my Xmas list.
A bit of a double post... but has anyone tried this?
I have tried connecting my PS3 Controller via the LiveDock but it can only work when connecting to USB Cable and not via bluetooth like the way it work with my Sony Tablet.
Guess it need the software interface which pair the controller to the device via bluetooth.
So which are the controllers able to work with our phone which has been tested?
hi mate
If you go into Bluetooth menu it gives u the Bluetooth address
U can then plug your ps3 control in to laptop and use six axis pair tool(which is free to download onto ur computer ,just google it) and you can manually change the address control address to that of the phone
Not sure if it will work without six axis app on your phone or not but is worth a try
Hope that helps

wont work on sense roms well tbh don't really know about s4.0 but on previos sense based roms sixaxis does not obtain the required permissions for bluetooth. should work on a ice non sense rom running on a one x.
Phonejoy's should work, they worked with other recent HTCs that I'd tried. I get my One X next week and have Phonejoy's, WiiMotes, Datel Retro Wireless, Logitech F310 and PS3 controllers at home. Will let you know which work!

I have a rooted and de-odexed rom running ICS. Have attempted to overwrite the bluetooth .apk as per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560647&page=2
Sixaxis won't ID my bluetooth, or pair after changing the master.
After pressing the start button, the sixaxis compatibility fails to connect.
Are there any ways to get sixaxis to work without removing sense completely? Can anyone confirm it working on a rooted vivid/raider??
Not sure exactly what your doing but i found the instructions for pairing misleading.
After changing the master ID you need to unplug the usb cable in order to pair it, instructions doesnt tell you to unplug it until after it's paired. if you try and pair it with the usb pluged in it says failed and tells you to plug it in when in fact you actually have to unplug it.
I have a sense rom and it works fine with it.
I never had to do anything with overwriting the bluetooth apk.
Shouldn't need to adjust anything what so ever, if you have a ps3 pad you can use sixaxis and it works like a charm, you can also set buttons on the ps3 pad to emulate as hardware keys on your phone, as well as emulated touchscreen controls,
You could add the left analog stick and a certian area of the screen, and it'll only go within the radius of that area.
I can confirm that Sixxaxis works like a charm on the HTC One x, I use it for FPSE (psx emulator) Cs 1.6, Shadowgun, Minecraft, GTA III, and BFBC2 ! If you like i can setup a video on how i done everything
You will need to root it and have SU !
Six axis vivid/raider
I've got the stock at&t ics rom(rooted/su) and sixaxis compatibility doesn't seem to connect.
The compatibility checker says click start to show local bluetooth, however, when I start the utility no local address is displayed. Went into setting and checked the address manually.
I downloaded the pairing utility and ran it on my laptop to change the master id.
When I try to pair the controller it says connect via usb. I did try pairing it without it connected.
Without being able to pair it, the checker indicates an error: failed to configure bluetooth. Not a huge surprise. Am I missing some steps? I've tried this many different ways. Thanks for the earlier responses.

AT&T? Is your CPU S4 then? Maybe the Qualcomm uses a different Bluetooth stack because my Tegra3 works perfectly with sixaxis controller app.
If compatability checker doesn't succeed then it probably won't work for you.
Also it must be a genuine controller. Fakes don't seem to work.
After changing master on laptop to the MAC on the app and unplugging the lead you should power on the controller so it is flashing then just press START. That activates the driver and it should show text ending with "client connected:1"
The PAIR CONTROLLER button is for tablets which have USB host functions and can then pair directly without the laptop step.

If there is no address for your local bluetooth on your phone, have you tried checking what the ps3 bluetooth address is and trying to manually search for that address using sixaxis?
It'll usually tell you the address of the ps3 if you had it paired to it last, then just use that address for the manual pair on sixaxis basically

You can stick a small pin in through the hole on the back towards the center and upwards to the right a bit. That will reset it. Then use the pc pairing tool to set the mac address of your bluetooth as shown in the sixaxis app
Just use your pc and the pairing tool and enter the BT address from your tablet.
I bought the sixxasis app and didn't need the pc app. Just make sure your far away from your ps3 so you don't turn it on

Yes it does work with it on Bluetooth if you are rooted. here is the link for the GameKlip™ - Universal CaseMount http://buy.thegameklip.com/products/gameklip-casemount. As long as you have a case to mount too it.

[Q] Sixaxis with Tab S

Hi everyone,
I've searched all over but can't find the answer. I've used the sixaxis app on many devices before. It doesn't seem to work on the tab s, and I believe it is because newer Samsung devices are missing a certain Bluetooth protocol.
My goal is to connect two PS3 controllers to the Tab S to play emulated games (nes, snes n64,etc.)
Does anyone have any information on how to get it working? Thanks!

I tried all the tricks I know, to no avail, it's really hard to make it work, unless you're willing to do it 'oldschool' style, wired via OTG.
we managed to do this in samsung tab 3 before, 2 PS3 controllers for 2 player fighting games, dunno, seems like we have bluetooth compatibility issues as the PS3 bluetooth is already outdated.
let's here other chime in

Im using 2 official controllers here, one that came with the ps3 that I used on my tab 7.7 with no issues (bluetooth) . And another aftermarker pink controller that I also used with no issues with tab 7.7. Only thing devious and I have in common might be our custom rom which he compiled

I'm having the same issue in my rooted Tab s 10.5. I changed the master to my tablet, then the tablet never sees the controller. Any luck?
Uhhh. Dunno what I did but.. it worked.
Heres what I remembered.
Uninstalled sixaxis.
Downloaded compatibility checker and run
-hooked up my controller via otg and manually typed my bluetooth MAC
Installed Sixaxis
-tried pairing via OTG. Disconnect cable and tried pairing via BT: unsuccessful
*frustrated*
Killed app compatibility checker
Killed app sixaxis
Reopened sixaxis
Clicked change IME - list of keyboard appeared. Tapped sixaxis
Clicked start. It connected.
Mine is :
1. Have a DS3 controller
2. Have a cable and OTG
3. Connect DS3 via OTG
4. Open sixaxis controller app ( v0.7.4)
5. Tap PAIR
6. Disconnect the controller
7. Change IME
8. Tap Start and connect with DS3
9. Done

Thanks for all the feedback! I am trying very hard to replicate the steps, but I still can't get past the "Listening for controllers" status.
Can anyone please delete all of the six axis settings, and post detailed step by steps from scratch?
Also, I noticed my bluetooth button isn't lit up (indicating that it is on) when I start Sixaxis. And when I try to turn it on, it doesn't.
Thanks for your help!!

Wait, you guys are right.... it is totally random, but I got it working! This time, I did retype the bluetooth address manually and clicked pair (even though it looked the same). Then, it still didn't work. Then I tried it with my regular swiftkey input, and it connected! Then I switched it to six axis.
This was the reason I bought the tablet, so THANK YOU guys for the help (even though we are still kind of puzzled )
I got another simpler method that works, so far so good,
-Force close all sixaxis apps (compatibility checker and sixaxis)
-at the back of the controller, there's a reset button, insert anything small enough and reset it
-connect the controller to your device via OTG
-run sixaxis controller app
-tap pair, then tap pair (the one on pop up)[ensure the bluetooth address is correct]
-disconnect OTG
-turn the controller on
-tap Start.
and there you have it.
edit:
and it will not work again as soon as you paired your device to your Samsung Gear LOL..
what you need to do, after using your Samsung Gear, disconnect it, reboot your device and follow the instructions above, it will sync once again

Any way you can post a video? I will be very thankful to the person who can get this working for me! It is frustrating that it worked yesterday flawlessly with two controllers, but only after hours of messing with it (and it isn't working today!)

I was about to edit my post for the nth time LOl. Sad to say. I does not work again. I was simply lucky that I managed to do it 3 times in a row. Now. It simply doesnt pair. Could be something messing with the bluetooth becuase once you get it to pair initially. Even if you reboot, it would still pair. But once you connect your device to another bluetooth device such as headset/gear. BT will forget the sixaxis profile and you'll have trouble syncing it again. I'm close to giving up. I'm simply using it with USB OTG just to satisfy my game-cravings. Hope the others who got it working chime in once again if they manage to pair it all the time.
