Quick Question. I just backed up my device and noticed that I have like 6 different backups. How do you delete the old backups from your device? Do you do it through TWRP or can you use a file manager (e.g. Super Manager 3.0, etc.)?
Thanks

Just use a file manager and go into the TWRP folder in sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/0000000000000000/
Also if you wish to keep some for any reason simply transfer them to your computer rather than delete never know when you might need one

Is it possible to rename ClockworkMod Recovery backups to help better identify what specifically they are without corrupting the backup itself? Does anyone have any experience at doing this successfully?

yes it is possible by using a file explorer and going into the folder of clockwork and going in to back and changing the name of it. i do it all the time to help me
I havent used clockwork in quite some time but I know you can use ROM Manager to backup and name them whatever you want. You could also rename them after backing up manually and then doing this to get rid of the md5 error http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976453
I believe that things have changed in clockwork though so Im not sure if the above method still works.
yea im on the latest 6.0.1.2 cwm and i've renamed the backup folder (the timestamped one in backup/) and restored from it successfully. just don't use spaces, im not sure if cwm supports folders with spaces
hey!
I have been unable to find a solution to my problem by search. Please help me or link me to the solution, if its been answered.
My brother has Gnex and is on 4.2.1. He has rom toolbox pro installed and used it to backup apps (his device is also rooted). Now from the root browser in the app, there is App Manager folder and inside the apps are backed up in a folder. Now, when I plug the phone in, the folder is not visible at all. How do I transfer those apps to the computer? Do I really need to transfer them because my bro wants to flash CM 10.0.0 instead of using pure android 4.2.1 .
Thanks for your help.
If you are changing the ROM then I recommend a full-wipe so Yes you need to backup your apps in order to restore them later. If this is all you need then use Titanium Backup instead. It will make a folder on /sdcard/ which you can easily transfer to your PC afterwards.
I haven't used ROM Toolbox at all but if you can determine the location of the "App Manager" folder you are talking about then probably you will get some help on how to transfer it to PC although I suggest using Titanium Backup to backup your apps

That is a problem with Windows and MTP I believe. I've had the same problem with other folders on my 'sdcard' and windows now showing them. You can use adb to pull them from your device. I actually like that a lot better and use it to transfer my sdcard contents to/from my computer. Also, there is no reason to worry about getting them on your pc just to flash a different rom. With any custom rom, your sdcard will not be wiped unless you do so yourself in recovery. Just do a factory reset from within recovery before installing a different rom like CM10.
Maybe a stupid question .....
With the latest CWM Im aware that Nandroids go to Blobs .... Im trying to then copy a backup to my PC (as its 3.5GB) but I cant find it !? Nothing in the clockworkmod folder. The backup definitely worked as im now 3.5gb lower on space but I cant find the blobs anywhere ???
Which CWM and which version of android? If youre above CWM 6.0.1.9, and android 4.2, the backups should be in data/media/clockworkmod, rather than data/media/0, which is your sdcard.

Im on 6.0.2.3 (touch) and 4.2.1 ROM. Ive got a clockworkmod folder - just no blobs in it ??
The latest version has reverted to the .tar method, which means you do a full back up without the blobs folder.
However if you prefer the blobs folder method, you can change it in the settings in recovery. The new default method is .tar (non blob)

thanks .... im still confused though as my clockworkmod folder is 5mb in size combined so the .tar must be somewhere ????
If you have made a backup using the latest version of CWM using a 4.2 rom you are unable to acess that backup with other apps. To save the backup you have made, open rom manager, in the backup restore section there is an option to down load to your computer over a server. Just connect your phone to your wifi, type the address it give you into your internet browser on your computer and select download
Very very interesting. In fact, I like the sound of this better than the blobs. Plus it sounds like koush addressed an issue i've been trying to solve: How to backup the backup to mac if you cannot see it in the sd.

its interesting to know that to copy a nandroid to your PC you now have to fork out for ROM Manager Premium ....
I stopped using ROM Manager a while back when it really started screwing up my phone when flashing ROMs.

The .tar full backup was the original method. The blobs folder was introduced to speed up the backup process, but users would delete the blobs folder which made the backups useless.
I mean that you can choose which method, either / or, from within clockworkmod. Good to know its a rom manager premium feature. I've never truly made use of rom manager. But i do still have the issue of how to backup the backup if i cannot see it from sdcard, so i'm exploring some possibilites.
I installed ROM Manager Premium v5.5.1.5 and had it update CWM. Now when I do a backup, the backup is hidden, although ROM Manager can see it and I can download it to a .zip file using the browser. I know i should be able to pull the backup from my phone using ADB - only i don't know where the file(s) are located? Can anyone fill me in here? Thanks

Please don"t use rom manager, twrp is way better and when you do a backup backup to sd card just in case phone gets stuck in a bootloop and you have to erase data to get it to work. To get twrp download goo manager off google play, after you install it open it and select flash rom and it will ask you if you have a recovery or not select yes and proceed with the download.
I happen to like cwm.
Just wondering why ROM manager makes the backups hidden now and where they are? I am able to download via the built in server, but would be nice to know where they are.
I just purchased the G3 a few days ago, am up and running with V20C rooted with TWRP custom recovery.
For the life of me, after doing 2 backups, I can't find the TWRP backup folder/files?!
I've done dozens of backups and restores using TWRP on many different phones but have yet to encounter this problem.
I know that the backup's exist because my storage space keeps going down every time I try to backup.
Has anyone had this issue before?
Thanks in advance!

It should be at:
/sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS
or
/storage/emulated/0/TWRP/BACKUPS
Thanks for the reply. Obviously, I checked there, but the folders don't exist.
There is a TWRP file in the root folder, size is 0 bytes. This is really odd..

What does > TWRP(Recovery) > Restore > Select Storage / very top line, go through options it gives and you should find your Backup, if it exists in TWRP.
After searching a bit online, I was able to figure it out.
Booted into recovery, then plugged in USB cable. All of a sudden, the TWRP folder magically appeared on my computer, and I was able to copy the backup files.
No idea as to why this is happening..

Hi, I had the same identical problem and I found this thread searching for a solution. Not a single file manager could find the twrp folder but it existed, I could'nt create a new folder with that name in storage/sdcard. In the meantime I found a topic in which an user finds his backups in DATA/MEDIA/(etc), I tried and it works, but still apps like titanium and others couldn't access that folder! In a moment tried to set selinux mode to permissive and immediately titanium sees the nandroid! I think this is a VERY IMPORTANT info, I have stock rom bumped and rooted, can anyone copy this post to a more important troubleshooting topic?
Edit: I see some nexus 4 users had the same problem, this could be caused by lollipop instead of the g3 environment or the root method or so
