Hi, I have sideloaded the Dolphin HD browser onto my Kindle Fire, and it works great, but when I try to add an Addon, I get the message that the addon isn't available on the Amazon App store. Is there a way to sideload addons, or some other work around? My Kindle Fire is not rooted.
Thanks!

Basically the only way to get them would be to extract the apk file from a phone and just sideload it.
or find it online, but i really wouldnt suggest it unless you trust the uploaders

I have already sideloaded the apk files for the addons, but I don't know where to put them on the kindle so that Dolphin HD picks them up. Perhaps I have to manually edit a config file to tell Dolphin HD where they are? I have been looking on the net for an answer, but haven't found one.
Figured it out. Didn't realize that to install the addon, I just have to run it. Here is where I found the info needed, by the way.....

I am currently running a CM9 Distro on my Kindle fire.
I Just downloaded a whole pack of .apk's including the Amazon Video, Amazon Mp3 and Amazon Launcher.
Here is the link i used : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1596706
I followed the steps to Install all the apps, and them, install the launcher itself, but the Launcher "Force Closes" as soon as i open it, i can't even see the Bookshelf itself.
Is there any way to install amazon's launcher and all the "extras" such as video,mp3 and kindle (i have kindle app, but i want it to integrate with the launcher, so as it used to be on the stock OS) ?
Thanks in advance
I'm having the same problem too.

This worked for me:
tyriekgo original post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1596706
I installed all the files in the kINDLE FIRE FILES folder, they all installed except for these three:
com.android.htmlviewer-10-2.3.4.apk
com.android.magicsmoke-10-2.3.4.apk
com.android.musicvis-10-2.3.4.apk
I then used root explorer to get to /system/app/
I then found, clicked on and installed:
HTMLViewer.apk
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
It is working for me.

I tried it out. I found and installed(in /system/app)
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
But I couldn't find HTML Viewer.
So I installed the one provided using chmod 644 /system/app/htmlviewerappsnameiforgotsoiamusingthis.apk
But it still crashed.

It worked for me on Hashcode's jelly bean rom. I did exactly what he said. It has a few bugs that I am trying to figure out and I can't get that silk browser working.

Are you using the GR9 Modaco rom like your signature says? I will flash over to it tomorrow and try to load the launcher again. Maybe I can replicate the problem you are having. The HTMLViewer.apk file was in both the CM9 and CM10 roms for me, so hoping it is that simple.
I have not even tried to reinstall the silk browser, as I did not like it to begin with lol. My book store launches the kindle store. The only part for me that does not work is the video player, because I have left root on, I can go into video and even select a video to play. It closes when it starts to play.

It launches the kindle store just like it used to on stock or does it open in the browser? I am having trouble with video as well.
I have Amazon app store running (version 4.2.0) on the [AOSP] Jelly Bean Tablet Edition without any problems. I pulled the apk from the site itself and installed straight through the normal interface.
You need to find the right libs, permissions, framework files, etc that makes the apps work on the stock firmware then put them in the current rom u are on

I am using twa_priv's cm10 and this did not work for me. I get "unfortunately launcher has stopped".
Any ideas?
(Note . I am not trying to install silk . I just want the launcher and reader (or even just the reader.)

Wish I could but I honestly believe if it could be done one of our tremendous developers would have taken it on long ago. I do know that the stock launcher itself does become very unstable on jelly bean.
hey everyone, i have two kindle fire's. I recently rooted one and the other is still stock. i was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to download a "kindle fire edition" game from the stock kindle and sideload/back it up on the rooted device. Might be a noob question, since i have no idea if you can even back up a amazon appstore app since i believe it doesn't actually deliver an apk when you install. any help/info would be appreciated. thanks.
I'm also open to any other methods of loading kindle fire edition apps on a rooted device if anyone knows of any...
I am assuming that you have tried to download the app directly from the Amazon store onto your rooted KF and for some reason it didn't work. So try using ES File Explorer. Put it on the unrooted KF. Back up the game using ES. That will create an apk file, then transfer the apk file to the rooted KF and install.

Interesting
I wasn't even aware i could use es to backup and create apk's... i'll try that a little later. thanks for the info.
nope
no luck. tried a couple different apps and neither worked... could have something to do with the drm on gameloft's games though. might try again with something else. if i have a recovery image of stock kindle and a recovery of cm7 can i switch to stock via twrp install, backup then recover to cm7? would that maybe work?
You can sideload games just fine on a KF. The problem is the DRM won't allow you to launch the games unless the second KF is also linked to your amazon account.
You can link your Android device to your Amazon account through Kindle reader...it might work to get around the DRM.
good to know... thanks for the info. just had a case of wishful thinking i guess. its not that hard to switch between recovery img's though. thanks
Forgive me if this has already been gone over but I cannot seem to find any other discussion about it. I am running the energy ICS rom for my kindle fire and I can no longer run HBO GO since the last play store update.
I uninstalled the play store app and tried to get the app from amazon but it of course says my device is not compatible. I tried side loading an apk for the amazon store version and it does finally launch, but force closes shortly after. I've been trying to find a more updated version of the amazon store HBO GO apk but no luck. I figured maybe if I could get the newest apk that might work. Anyone else with this problem? What am I missing here? Any help would be much appreciated.
You should get gederom. It works with gederom I think.

I'll try that. Is this a nice looking rom like energy? Eh I'll just give it a shot. Can always go back.
No luck on gederom either. HBOGO just says "HBOGO has stopped working" when you try to launch. If you try to do a report you get "Google Play store has stopped responding".
Any other suggestions? I wonder if someone could get the latest apk for HBO go on kindle from the amazon store if that would work. Is there any one that can point me in the direction or maybe somehow rip the latest version apk. The one out for download that I have seen before is outdated and also force closes.
EDIT: Any way to make the Amazon app store think I am running stock kindle fire? I'm just amazed I cannot find anyone else asking about this issue. I can't be the only person with a custom rom kindle fire that wants to use HBOGO can I?
EDIT2: Going to try using IMEI Generator to get amazon app store to let me load the app. Hope this works.

I've been having this issue since they made it official for JB. It ran while I was using twa_priv's JB ROM, but not so much on any other ROM. There's a permissions issue that's causing the app to crash on a lot of JB ROMs, but there's a patch/hack that needs to be applied to it for it to work. It's currently above my smarts range just looking at the coding, but I'm sure one of the devs will figure it out way before I even crack the surface on changing code level permissions.

Well I didn't get Amazon App store to recognize my custom rom Kindle as a stock Kindle, but it didn't matter after all. The following fix makes the Google Play store HBOGO app work again. Credit goes to user diesteldorf for helping me figure this out.
"First, your Kindle Fire has to be rooted but I assume it is. Second, you must have an app called Root Explorer installed.
The file you want to edit is the build.prop file. Go into the Root Explorer app and search for it. It will usually be somewhere in the system directory.
Next you'll want to edit the file. Root Explorer should keep a backup of the original build.prop file but you may want to keep a backup just in case.
Here is a link to what should be the stock build.prop for the Kindle Fire. You'll want to read it using a text editor or MS Office.
Here are the settings you'll be interested in changing:
ro.product.model=Full Android on Blaze or SDP
ro.product.brand=generic
ro.product.name=blaze
ro.product.device=blaze
ro.product.manufacturer=TI
Then Save the changes to the build.prop file and reboot your device."
Once you have done this simply uninstall the HBOGO app from your device if you haven't already and reinstall. Should fire up like normal now.
Once again thank you diesteldorf. I was about to pull my hair out(okay not really).
EDIT: One other thing of note, I actually went back to my backup of energy rom so I am assuming this method should work for any ICS rom but can't be 100% sure of course.
I am having this same problem using hashcodes jb rom. I will give this a try and hopefully this will solve my problem. I need my HBO fix!

The funny thing I found out is doing this fix makes the MAX GO app stop working. I gotta say if someone knows an easy fix that wouldn't interfere with this HBO GO fix i'll take it, but to be honest I really don't care about MAX GO at this point.
Also my feeling is that MAX GO will probably get the same store update that HBO GO got and maybe it will just start working again anyways.

This worked for me on CM9, Android 4.0.3, kernel 2.6.35.7. After editing the build.prop it wasn't working until I rebooted
[EDIT] I totally didn't realize this was my first-ever posting here. I got LOTS of help from XDA-DEV forums on various devices!
Hi,
I have the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" running 8.5.1.
Some time ago i managed to gain root to the device and then went on a crazy deleting spree, i think i deleted my app store in the process.
Whenever i click on App Store now, nothing happens, though i need the appstore working so can execute ES Browser so that i can run FireFlash and finally be rid of this draconian OS.
Does anyone know a workaround, or perhaps know where i can get a copy of the appstore files so that the store works again.
Thank You.
If someone would be so kind, I need the latest versolion of Netflix to sideload to my fire TV. I lost mine. All Amazon market stuff I have removed.
I'm currently using the android TV version but it has some picture distortion on the menu.
If someone could grab the apk for me I'd appreciate it. I have searched online and can't find. And getting it through amazon on my fire TV would be quite the feat. Thanks.
Where i find this? /system/priv-app? Cant see any folder named netflix or something like that.
Only figured out, that Netflix 3.2.1 is installed.
Are you rooted?
If so, you can use luckypatcher or titanium backup to make an apk from the installed app
This is Netflix 2.3.7 build 229 that I use for Fire TV.
