Help First timer, can't boot - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I unlocked my bootloader and flashed a Bigxie Jellybean rom this morning for the first time.
Everything was going great until I tried to reboot for the 4th time and now there is no boot animation.
I tried doing a factory reset in CWM as well as wiping the cache but it didn't help.
I also don't have the Jellybean zip file any more.
What do I do now?
Is there a way to push the zip file to my phone and try again?

Use search, there's a lot of threads about this; next time read before you do stuff, hope this serves as a lesson.

Read? All I've done for the last 2 days is read. And when I finally tried it everything worked well.
Anyway, I managed to fix it. Pushed over the update file with Wugfresh Toolkit and flashed it again.

Glad you solved it.
You asked a good question "Is there a way to push the zip file to my phone and try again?", awnsered and asked by people like probably dozens of times now. How can you miss it? Simple, you didn't search well.
This was the first result, on regional google, for the search tag "xdadev push zip". Sure, we could have used other tags like "android push zip", but it's for a subforum on Archos Gen8, Gen9; it tells you how to push a script, which is a file, then the command gotta be the same. Oh, what's this, ADB!?
Once again, regional google search first hit was this when searching for tag "adb". Reading the linked webpage, you see a bit down further
Copying Files to or from an Emulator/Device Instance
You can use the adb commands pull and push to copy files to and from an emulator/device instance's data file. Unlike the install command, which only copies an .apk file to a specific location, the pull and push commands let you copy arbitrary directories and files to any location in an emulator/device instance.
To copy a file or directory (recursively) from the emulator or device, use
adb pull <remote> <local>
To copy a file or directory (recursively) to the emulator or device, use
adb push <local> <remote>

Great. We know what is adb, and what can we use it for. So, this topic was about bootanimation disapearing. You solved it by pushing a rom zip and reflashing. You could have just searched for "xdadev android bootanimation galaxy nexus" and you would have found this, the third result on google.
This would tell you where bootanimation file is located at, so you'd have known how to push it, where to push it.
You see, you didn't search well. You spent 2 days searching, I spent 10 minutes, like I didn't know a thing about android.

[Help Required] will not boot

Hey guys,
I have done something stupid.
The phone.
GSM Galaxy Nexus - Android 4.0.2 (ICL53F)
Rooted. otherwise stock.
Current status - will not boot android. Will load fastboot/recovery
I was trying to change the bootanimation.
Could not do it with adb push.
So i tried by copying the .zip file to the phone.
Opened up file File expert (unsure how many use this) clicked on "internal Memory" and tried to mount for read/write.
Copied bootanimation.zip from sd card to /system/media would not paste.
Tried again. Did not paste but it did delete the stock bootanimation.zip file.
Unsure what i clicked but when i tried to open /system/media it try to "execute" it, stated that it could not find a program to do so.
Closed program.
Phone started to come up with differnt apps stating that they have stopped working.
turned off phone, reboot.
Will not load boot animation, just loads to recovery!
I think I will have to flash the stock rom to solve this.
Any help would be great.

If this was my phone I'd find a nice rom, stock or not, and install it. I'd follow the dev's installation instructions to a "T".
You could also go this way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399210
Good luck.

Stuck in bootloop after messing with framework-res.apk

I was in the process of replacing framework-res.apk and missed the step of changing the permissions before replacing it. I found several threads on how to unbrick the phone by flashing a new ROM but I was hoping I can somehow fix the permissions on the framework file and be done. I installed adb and I already had the LG USB drivers installed but when I run adb devices it doesn't list anything. Windows 7 shows "LG AndroidNet Phone" and a removable disk under "Safely Remove Hardware" so I think I have the right drivers.
Is there hope that I can fix the file permissions?
BTW, I'm a newb so I may be missing something. And also scared of having to flash a ROM
I need help.
do you have CWM in the phone ? if so boot into that and run adb devices and see if it finds it their
No, I don't. Other than using DooMLoRD zergrush to root the phone a few months ago, I have not messed with anything else.

unless your phone will boot normaly to the home screen or you have CWM on it you will haveto flash the koren rom theirs no way to get it into recovery that i know of ... have you tryed a factory reset ?
I replied to you at another thread, so I'll repeat here.
What you need to do is re-root while it's looping. It might take you 100 tries before it succeed , but eventually it should succeed.
After that you can try fix the permissions, but if the new .apk file is not copied successfully first time it might get you in boot loop again, so I'd recommend at that point push the .apk again and then change the permissions.
I found that zergrush dated 2011-10-21 has more chances to succeed, because it has more retries before it gives up, the new version tries only few times and gives up too quickly.
I've attached the root I was using with 3 versions of zergrush.
Open CMD window and execute root.bat, let it copy all needed files to the phone. If it fails, try execute loop.bat, it will just execute zergrush indefinitely , so you can go do other stuff. You can check if root succeeded by opening another CMD window and type: adb shell
then, if it shows sign "$" type su, if it shows "#" you are good to go.
P.S.
This method only works with AT$T stock rom, if you are on LU6200 you are probably out of luck, as their root requires wifi and user interaction...
Having CWM is very handy in such situations, not only because you can restore backups, but because you'll have root access.
Thanks [email protected], I'll give it a try. And yes, I have the stock ROM.
I'm having problems downloading root.zip, I've tried two computers and different browsers, it only downloads 554 bytes.
Yeah, for some reason it was downloading 404 page...
I reuploaded it.
I let the loop.bat run overnight without success so I decided to call AT&T and have it replaced under warranty. The new phone arrived today and I've been busy reinstalling and reconfiguring. I may install CWM just so I can easily recover from a backup in case I do some other stupid thing to the phone.
Thanks guys

[Q] KF2: Unable to boot into CM10 - Any help appreciated

Hi Guys,
Firstly, thanks so much for the info on this community. I've followed loads of the threads and almost all of what I need to know is here.
I have a KF2 @ v10.3.1. I've rooted it and applied the 2nd bootloader using a homemade lead (thanks to the thread on that!). I started in Windows but switched to Kubuntu after getting driver issues etc.. To compound the problem, the KF2 is blocked by Amazon, which didn't help as I couldn't load apps whist it was stock. (It's not stolen or otherwise illegally obtained. Amazon sent it in error, and despite me contacting them to ask how to return it, they've never replied)
Anyhow, After following THIS thread, which appeared to go OK, after rebooting I'm unable to boot into Recovery. The blue screen just stays there. I can still boot normally, but I would like to load CM10 which is loaded as per the thread, along with gapps, both in zip format. I have read many threads about being stuck on the blue screen, but these are always locked and need to be restored, but I have no problem booting normally and the KF2 is not locked. I've searched this site and googled plenty.
I don't expect an exact answer, but if someone could just point me at what to look at, I'm sure I can find the rest of the info I need on here. :good:
Oh, also. Another quick question. I see that the CM10 images are constantly being updated, if (when I get mine working) I want to use one of these, is it simply a case of copying the zip file over? Or is there more to do than that.
Many thanks in advance.
You can boot normally? Into stock, I assume.
Run the apk tool from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106463
Should get you fixed right up
The zip file will have to be flashed from recovery. So, its a matter of copying the zip file (and gapps) over. Boot into recovery. Wipe data, cache, dalvik and system. Then flash rom first, the gapps.
Also, be VERY CAREFUL and make sure you have a GOOD DOWNLOAD by checking the md5 on the file. If you wipe the system (which deletes the stack file) you will not be able to boot into recovery or anything.
I still recommend that you purchase a fastboot cable.
Edit: also, when booting into recovery you might have to hit the power button a couple of times.

Cheers mindmajick. I've tried to do this but still having a few problems.
If I use the wired version, the runme.bat does not have permissions to the data/app folder. I can't seem to run it in Kubuntu as it says I can't run a binary file if I make it executable, but says I don't have permission if I remove execute. (I'm looking into this - but I'm not very good with Linux, so lots of Googling!!...lol....) Also I see that there are some issues with this version with the wireless version being favored. Unfortunately as I'm unable to log onto my Amazon account, I can't use this method.
I will continue to try, I'm almost there now, thanks for you help so far.

I'm unable to use the cordless version com.powerpoint45.FMKilo-2.apk due to the fact that as the KF2 is blocked by Amazon, I'm unable to log in and download or install .apk files.
Is there is an alternative way to install .apk files without needing to log in?
Hopefully that makes a little more sense. Cheers
Yes. Download the fmkilo apk from his thread, (use the browser if you have to) then once downloaded pull down the notification bar and tap on the apk link. Also, make sure that the option to install from unknown sources is set in the settings before doing the download
You could alternatively push the file via adb to the system Directory.
Is USB debugging enabled? Are you rooted?

Yup, that did it. I had overlooked the fact that I was still able to use the browser on the KF2 and didn't really know you could install .apk's using that method anyway. So now I have carried on and installed Jellybean 4.2.2 on there and it works a treat.
Thank you ever so much Mindmajick for taking an interest in my problem, I really do appreciate yours and the rest of the developers time on here. :good:

Not a problem: Thanks
I think this is a method of pushing the flash and image files to the tablet and then installing using ADB by the way it is described.
I think I have that method copied down some place else.
I have never used this method but, sounds like it would work.
I also presume you need root to do the install via ADB.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus ADB side load help

Phone Was working fine on latest PA rom until battery died. Upon charging and rebooting up, the Rom some how got corrupted i guess, because it now just boots logo forever. I don't have any roms on the device itself so can't reinstall anything through recovery to try to fix whatever may have got corrupted. I know there is a way to Side Load with TWRP, but am running into difficulties. I do have the drivers for the nexus installed. I can't directly drop files through windows because it doesn't read in recovery and read up upon researching the Side load function. So I downloaded the ABT bundle zip folder and placed it in C folder, but that's where i'm stuck. I've tried looking a few things up but every time i try to run Adb command in the platforms folder it just opens and closes within a second. not sure what i'm missing. i've tried looking at other ways but most other phones have the capability of just throwing it on to the SD card which helps other people. thanks in advance.
Tl:dr Need to get a rom file onto the Nexus, to install and repair my corrupted rom.
you run adb from COMMANDLINE, it sounds like you are trying to double click the adb.exe....that will never work. adb is a commandline tool
ok, i'm pretty much a noob, don't know how to do that but i'll google it first before i bug any more. thanks again.
Since you are using windows, while looking at the explorer window that contains the adb/fastboot exes, hold down shift and right click somewhere in the blank space within the folder...OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE
once you have a DOS prompt open in that location, type 'adb devices' without any quotes to see if your device is being recognized.
there is an entire thread dedicated to walking you through this whole process.
start reading here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812959
this site contains all the info you need.
I googled it and got it set up and working. it does recognize my device. now i'm reading up on the command to send the zip file. seriously, thanks for the feedback. been sitting here for like 2 hours trying to figure this out without pulling out my hair and tossing the phone lol.
You could have just read the stickies... Why people don't get curious about things like "RETURN TO STOCK ON ANY GALAXY NEXUS VARIANT" or "ANDROID 101", I'll never understand.

interal sdcard not mounting?

I flashed franco kernel nighltie r364 on a JB 4.2 stock rom on a Galaxy Nexus, now the internal SD won't mount..
Have I permanently lost all the data? can someone please explain how I can recover/resolve this.
I've tried to mount it in TWRP and it's unselected (default set to mount), yet after a reboot I still can't access the internal sdcard.
Also, no apps work, I guess it's cause they're all on the internal sdcard.
Finally the name 'legacy' appears under the sdcard0 folder (it actually looks like a file now with a golden star against it), I see this using root explorer; the only app that works.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated...

Thanks for poiting me in the direction of adb!
I swear I'll never mess with a Nexus again.
I resolved all I needed but took 12hrs and no sleep to get adb to recognise (with a bit of tom foolery) and pull the files we needed.
I"m just gona wipe the whole phone and start a fresh.
Now time to enjoy the rest of our hols.
At least we saved our child's photos.

SGS2 GT-I9100 (and never will be Galaxy Nexus)
UPDATE.
I just want to update this thread regarding my experience.
Firstly, this problem occured again!!
This is how I solved it;
[SOLVED]
Well I spent allnight/day (18hrs really)reading and conducting a whole host of procedures, from; using adb too resorting back to stock.
Needless to say nothing worked correctly!!
What I eventually did was to use WUGFRESH Galaxy Nexus Toolkit v1.6.4 and it stripped (reformatted) the phone and placed a clean stock firmware back.
I say reformatted hestitantly, as all other methods that I used and know of (from my time modding my S2) didn't work, at all (when applied to this phone) as each time the internal storage 'could not be mounted or accessed', I can only imagine something was severely corrupted.
WUGFRESH downloaded the necessary files and during its running, automatically indicated that some files could not be accessed or weren't present on the phone (I read this via the cmd screen on WUGFRESH), it then tx and loaded the necessary files (what I can describe as a reformat) and after all processes I rebooted and vola! access to internal storage regained.
Also, just to add, [before I started the process] the same WUGFRESH SW also allowed me to pull files from the internal storage (personal family photos and videos), even though adb wouldn't mount the storage or push or pull files from the phone, all other procedures/methods I tried wouldn't work either! WUGFRESH was the only one that worked.
After everything, I conducted a nandroid! what a headache, and it aint even my phone (it belongs to my fiancè).
Thanks for all the support in the thread, needless to say I hope all my experience in the last 18hrs helps someone else.

You're holding it wrong. You should have read the stickies, but your goal wasn't to learn anything anyways so..
and another thing: not that I use it, but it's WUGFRESH toolkit - at least get the name right. It bothers me when people don't call stuff by their names.
don't create 2 threads for the same issue. Reported.
soz on the wrong naming of WUGFRESH.
REPORTED? Why? my two threads were ligit!, all posted in Q&A, based on the same issue but within two areas

So it took you 18 hours and you never tried ADB or Fastboot by itself?
toolkits are nothing more than a front end hiding the commands from the user by using ADB and Fastboot...congrats on learning nothing in the process? I see nothing in your resolution that indicates that the GOOGLE provided tools would not work.
Sigh....another toolkit thread. YAY!

YES, I tried adb cmds and bootloader/fastboot (as I mentioned above) same as I would on a S2, each time reverting back to stock on this nexus never gave access to the internal storage; this was the problem.
Hence I used a toolkit, and it worked.
I'm not an expert in modding android but I know some stuff, and this nexus wasn't playing to a rule book, as all the adb cmds and methods I found online (and are basic) never worked, no thread gave a solution that worked, similar google searchers.
I didn't go into this blind, but I never expected so much hassle modding this phone, as I rooted it and flashed a stock ROM weeks/months ago without problems.
As for learning anything (you're the 2nd person to mention it), I've learned a lot from the xda community (personally) and through threads.. though the issue I experienced was never written about in the sense I experienced it and had to resolve it.
