This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 6 to your G2 (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device and install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. WIPE
4. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon
- Upgrading from earlier CM6?
1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
- Was it a hard reboot? Get me the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
- Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get me the full output.
- Pastebin links preferred

I had CM 6 installed on my MyTouch Slide...upgraded to G2 today and what do I see? This, and it makes me happy. As soon as I work up the courage to root, this will be the first rom I flash!

Cyanogen, I haven't see wifi calling NOT shutter on any rom yet. Don't feel too bad about it. If you could improve it somehow... even more awesome!

* Force closes / "boot loops" / bad permissions / etc when using Titanium Backup
* Non-working third-party camera apps that access the camera incorrectly via native code (Qik, Fring, and most other apps using the front camera)
* Battery usage/bluetooth/wifi/rebooting/etc problems while using a third-party kernel
* Bugs w/ Google apps
* Bugs w/ the recovery image (i.e., turning the screen on when you charge from off)

KNOWN ISSUES:
* Camera (both) don't work in many third-party apps. This is an issue with applications using native code incorrectly. There is no NDK camera interface. Application issue, Will not fix.
* Mms settings are lower than people expect. You can work around this by using a different Mms app. Will be fixed in next release
* Lack of dithering in "Teeter" from HTC. Found while poking around Gingerbread, might fix.

Not that I know of. It's up to the program developer to update for 2.3

The latest gapps seems to not have some elements, didn't have gmail or maps. I reverted to an older version.

So I'd need a full wipe coming from the Previews huh? Ugh dont feel like doing that.

The latest version 1-15-2011 have gmail. It just gives you more options on what you want to install. check the boxes and it will install what you want.

Could someone enlighten me as to how the upgrade path for this will work?
I'm new to the Android scene, and have heard lots about Cyanogen, I'm just a bit confused about all the different versions and such.
I was following the previous thread, which seemed to be about preview nightlies, and now we're just talking about nightlies...
Is this sort of like a RC, or is this the final deal? If this isn't the final deal, how difficult is to to update your phone once an update is posted (nightly?).

It's the same thing from Zinx previews, but here we will have official nightlies from the devs that mean every night we will have a build from the buildBot. Both Zinx and kmob's are the official CM Teams.

Looks like I have something to do tonight...my bro has been asking me about cm7 on his MT4G for awhile now...

Gotta say that nightly number 1 is flying compared to the rest of the cm7 builds out thee love it!

NIGHTLY are not for noobs

Nightly #1 has broken wifi, fyi. It turns on, doesn't scan for a network, and then turns itself off after about 30 seconds. But in general, I'm excited that nightlies are finally here.

Apparently wasn't clear enough. I saw ops builds name/code whatever. But havent seen a 2.1 slim rom. So I was asking about base rom. Its unofficial cause is built with linaro. I guess im too dumb and old for this. Rocket science to me.
...and when the crap hit the fan I was the only one there...

Is there a reason we have to use the gapps provided? I usually prefer to install the minimal gapps, not that it's a big deal.
