Hey everyone thanks for taking the time to read this.
I'm trying to install CWM 5 on to my Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830D.
It's running on Gingerbread 2.3.4.
I followed the guides to a 'T' and still can't figure this out.
I put the zipped file onto my SD card. When I go to install the file the installation aborts.
I've retried this process over and over again with no luck. I also tried to root my phone and I have the same problem.
Installation aborts..
The error it gives me is this: E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip .
I tried downloading the CWM 5 zip from other websites with no luck still.
My goal is to install the CyanogenMod 7.2 for Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830.
Thank you in advance for anyone who has read this and replied to help me fix this problem.
Cheers,
Brem.

to install CWM use Odin not recovery mode from your phone recovery mode is good to flash signed packages like updates from manufacturer you get error because that zip package containing CWM is self-signed anyway it fails because is not signed by Samsung so use default/stock recovery mode only to flash official updates -if you get one
look here for a howto guide

Ok guys, I'm having a problem with install this rom.
I'm trying to install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715180
I believe my device is rooted, I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702973
After following it, I did get superuser, and I did the terminal test, it worked. Even have root only applications working.
So, When I'm trying to install the rom, I followed this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704865 The download link to the update.zip is down, so I used the one from when I did the"How to root" guide. Not sure if it's the same or not.
So I put both zips on the sdcard (slideme.zip, and update.zip). I go into recovery mode, when I click apply update.zip, the green bar goes like 30%, then I get:
-- Install from sdcard..
Finding update package..
Opening update package..
Verifying update package..
E:failed to verify whole-file sidgnature
E:signature verfication failed
Installation aborted.

You need to either install the engineering rom (which will allow you to enter clockwork from now on the way you are trying) or get back in to clockwork using the same method you used when you rooted the device.
K, thanks. I'll check it out.
I I just received my galaxy nexus SC-04D locked to docomo,
My goal is to have it rooted, running cyanogenmod 10, and carrier unlocked.
Which order do I do things in, and which guides should I use for each step?
I am a little worried that if I first root, then install cyanogenmod10 that the **** docomo app will not work on cyanogenmod10..?
and do I have to unlock a bootloader? (i dont even know what that means)
Thank you.. I:m a relative newbie and am looking forward to exploring everything available for a power user of a rooted nexus.
Search..
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

Download the .zip from your computer, move it to the root of your sdcard and flash in cwm.
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=maguro&type=
Changelog:
http://cm10log.appspot.com/?device=maguro
I did as you said and got closer to success, but it CM10 got stuck in bootloop.. so I went in to try to hipe or restore, and now it seems i:ve wiped too much, when I click reboot, it says *no OS installed! are you sure you want to reboot?* so now i:m pretty messed up..
when I click install it shows two nightly:s that i:ve downloaded, but when i try to flash it , it gives me that same erorr
unable to open zip file
error flashing zip
unable to open zip error flashing zip
failed

ok i used galaxy nexus toolkit to reinstall stock rom.. i guess i:ll be using that until I figure out how to successfully install CM10
I am new to all this root and custom ROM, but I have spent hours searching forums and need help so thats why I am posting.
I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 I747. I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8. I managed to root my android using CASUAL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189536) and install Clockwordmod recovery v6.0.3.6
I then download and install #SuperUser. Followed by ROM Manager. (My internet research told me rom manager is the easiest to use for mac users)
I run rom manager, flash clockwork, then look to install the latest "stable" build for CM. I select install CM, format and erase, It downloads, downloads gapps, reboots looks to install CM, then I get the below error message:
Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
Assert failed: getprop(ro.bootloader”)==i747
(followed by many more lines of error/failed)
my phone then reboots into the stock AT&T. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to wipe my whole phone, factory reset, then install a custom ROM like CM using ROM Manager? or should I be doing something else?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards,
Tim
I was able (after many hours of reading posts) figure out my problem.
The new CM mods require a specific version of your phone's "bootloader." I switched it to: I747UCDLK3 then re-flashed CM 10.1.2-dtatt with Rom Manager and it worked!
You'll need to download and flash the appropriate bootlegger.
This thread was very helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
I have to say all in I invested a good 8 hours this weekend of reading posts, troubleshooting, and research as I rooted my phone for the first time, then installed my first custom rom. It wasn't easy rooting on a mac 10.6.8. Every step of the way I ran into obstacles and had to do a special workaround to root, get java 7, type commands in the terminal, install clockwork recovery, update bootloader, reflash cm rom.
Good luck!

a while ago i got a 13mb update for my GT-I9192, but i couldnt find any way to get the update to work, even tried deleting the update.zip so that i would download again, i recently tried to manually flash the update.zip from the external SD but i get the "can't open sdcard update.zip bad Install aborted" mesage, when i try to flash it the normal way i get the same error but displaying the "status 7" mesage, im also a mac user so i can use Odin to do it, so i was wondering if anyone could help me with this.
PD: i know about the existance of Heimdall but is way to complicated to me, and i just want to flash an update.zip
Thanks :good:

If it's an OTA from Samsung don't think you can just flash from recovery. Definitely not from a custom recovery. Have you tried "flash fire" from Chainfire? I've flashed whole stock roms and kernels with this on the S4 Mini with stock OS and stock kernel and just root.
Sent from my GT-I9195 using XDA Forums Pro.
Hello! I am new to the site so please be serious! Ok, so here's the problem: I rooted my Galaxy Nexus from Verizon to install CyanogenMod 11, Once I got the rom onto my phone I entered recovery using TWRP Recovery, then I tried to install the rom. After that it failed and I can't remember why, but I was being stupid and clicked the format sd card button and bricked my device. Now I'm trying to flash the rom again through ADB and Windows sends the .zip file to the phone, then while trying to install it gives the error of "E: Error executing updater binary in zip" and I cannot figure out a way to fix it. I need help as soon as possible and it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Nobody? Nobody has had this issue or a solution?

as long as you can get to the bootloader see this thread to return to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/how-to-return-to-stock-galaxy-nexus-t1626895
