GMaps Offline Not Working in My Region. Enable old method? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey,
I just updated to 4.1.1 via OTA which also gave me the new Google Maps with offline access. Unfortunately, the offline access in not available for the region I want (it tells me not available when I select the area). Prior to the 4.1.1/GMaps update I was able cache offline maps using the Google Labs feature which is now removed.
Anyway to get it back?
Thanks.

how big is your region? it only allows about 85MB worth of data in one file

It's not about "space", offline maps aren't enabled in a lot of countries right now, and that includes mine, Portugal (also, Spain). I don't really understand this move from google ...

Agreed, it certainly does not make sense to me either. But that is why I'm just looking to revert to the way it was done in the earlier version of Gmaps for now.

Here you go, with Navigation enabled too.

Market App

My Motorola defy finally arrived by mail today, but unfortunately the market app isn't included and there is no way I can ship it back. If I install another rom will the market app work?
Thanks,
Yup for sure.
Or give this apk a shot...

Where are you located? If you search around you'll find phones designed for the UAE often come w/o market as it's apparently not allowed. Also, most (if not all) who have this issue find they cannot add market. Perhaps rooting will make it work.
Also of note, some people who have ordered their phones over the internet have gotten "Saudi" phones even if they are not in that market. And, apparently, the manufacturers sometimes will not support the phone.

I ordered it from the internet and I think its from the gulf region because of the arabic manual. I wanted to ask If I flashed another rom will it work and which rom should I flash ,that is stable and fast.
and now to flashing I just start the phone while pressing up volume and ON. Then connect to my pc, start RSD lite and flash the rom?

[Q] [App] Google Wallet Apk

I was reading the instructions about installing the Google Wallet apk and it says if in US just install apk.
I purchased a unlocked GSM GN so basically I would have to root instead of just installing apk, correct? I'm on TMOUS and 4.0.2 also.

I had to use the market enabler outside the us and had to be rooted. I think you should be fine without root since you are in the US, did you try to install the apk?

I'm not rooted and can't do a nandroid. Basically scared ****less of screwing up with no backup after reading this:
Troubleshooting
Secure Element not responding!
If you have a Nandroid backup of a version of Wallet that worked, try restoring to that. Otherwise, you're screwed unless you get a new device. The Secure Element in your phone has now locked you out.

So, no, I haven't installed the apk yet.
If you're in the US with the unlocked version, you should be able to just install the apk. I did it and got no errors or anything.
The only reason why you'd have to root or anything is if you're outside the US where Google Wallet isn't fully supported.
That troubleshooting is because people are regularly flashing ROMs over and over with Google Wallet on all of them, and they're not properly disabling/restoring each time they do so, so the secure element in the phone gets wacked out.

So I have no intent of installing any rooms or rooting for that matter. I would be fine than, right?
Thanks for the clarification, by the way.

How to Determine update contents

Can anyone tell me how to determine the contents of updates WITHOUT accepting them? I received one yesterday and it's only 37.9 mb. So I'm pretty sure it isn't JB, but I want to know what it is. Thanks.
Only thing that I can think of would be the update to gimp the search all function.
Yeah, I already have that one.

what are you running right now. LG2 OR LG8?

LG2 I bought it two weeks ago. When I do a search it only searches the web, not phone. So I assume it's been updated. Am I wrong?

Yep, just the LG8 update. Chances are the phone has been sitting on a self or being shipped from point A to B and never got turned on or activated to get the update.

Thanks. I would like to know if there is way to view these updates contents without installing, for future use. Anyone?

You could download the zip file separately on a PC and explore it. The update zip file has been available for a while. See this thread.
That's what I was thinking. I'll read up and see how to get it off the phone and to the pc. I don't want to install the update until I know what it does, if it does anything I want or need or does it remove things I like(universal search). Thanks again for the quick replies.

change phone's country?

I'm on Virgin Mobile Canada, an I was to install an app, however it's says it's not available on your phone's country. So it's not related to carrier. How can I change the phone's country?

Yes, I'm rooted. I don't think it's a market problem because I'm already on a Canadian service, Virgin. I want to download Fongo, but says not compatible with phone's country.

Here try this download it and install it Best of luck :good:
I live in Germany with a German phone. When I want to download a US app I start the app torbot(make sure you have it set to for everything.) Then clear data and cache in app management settings for the play store. Then open play and boom. US app store. Its a little slow to download but it works. When your done just shut torbot off. I also use it to use Pandora radio.

Play Protect Certified: Device is not certified

Not sure if it has anything to do with unlocking bootloader, but it seems that I can't install Netflix because my device is not certified in the Play Store. Anyone else come across this issue?
It is caused by the unlocked bootloader. It has been that way with Pixels since the originals. The solutions are to root with Magisk (do not know if Magisk works with the Pixel 3 or not) or use a custom kernel when one becomes available provided the P3 works like the P and P2.
Sideload it, done.

what level is your widevine since you have unlocked your bootloader, did it change?
Actually I need to backtrack here, Netflix wont install on a rooted device and while some say it works I've never had it work with Magisk either. On the other hand you can just sideload and it will work fine rooted. I don't actually know what happens if the device is unlocked but not rooted because I've never done that. lol My bad. I would try sideloading though, it's got a good shot at working and nothing lost if it doesn't.
Just download apk file from apk mirror
Works fine
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netfl...flix-6-13-0-build-29940-android-apk-download/
Figured, it's been this way for a fair while now and thats been the fix from the start.
Just open play store in settings\apps, clear data. Reopen the play store and see if it still says it. Might have to do it more than once. I unlocked my bootloader, and I saw that. I had to clear data twice. Now mine shows as certified.

Nope. Says it cannot complete setup because the device has been rooted or modified. And play store keeps jumping back to uncertified. Guess it won't stick. Have to wait for root. No biggie, I haven't fully jumped on the GPay train yet.

Okay, I thought something was wrong with my device. Good to know we're all in the same boat
I'm kiinda wondering if the much talked about Titan chip is going to make it harder to hide root. Some of the stuff out there is making that claim. Something related is that I followed a link to a google blog about it and the said that one of it's (Titian's) features is the ability to block unlocking. Not that it did block it, that it had that ability, so presumably it will depend on the OEM whether or not that feature is active. Was wondering where that will put the Verizon guys... Not trying to scare anyone because I haven't run into anything specific that comes from google and says exactly what it does but I know it's got my attention.
