Jelly Bean stock browser vs Chrome - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

is it just me or what?
JB stock browser is smoother and faster than chrome right now
What do you guys think?

With me I have jeilly bean on my Verizon and the stock web browser is slow but Google chrome is way faster
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

I have JB on my GNex. I find Chrome slow to start but then faster overall when using it. I also give it a plus for it being able to look like my Desktop as far as Bookmarks go.

better is the one that YOU enjoy using the most

Try for yourself and find out. I prefer Chrome.

I like chrome better personally. It does what I need it to, seemingly faster (to me at least)
Slight off topic, whats up with chrome and the stock android browser? Aren't they both developed by Google? Or is it like, Chrome is the Google browser ported to android, and the stock one is the one that the Android team specifically works on.

Honestly I don't understand why they are keeping both at the same time.. now that Chrome is stable (enough) and has integration with other devices tabs and bookmarks... I don't see why use the stock browser anymore.

Stock browser supports flash. Pretty sure chrome doesnt

I use chrome mostly I just wish they would add quick controls from the stock browser to chrome, I'm a big fan of that wheel lol!

I love chrome using it on my galaxy nexus as well have never even opened stock browser since chrome came out
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Now that chrome is almost stable,i'm using it over the stock
chrome--like the animations,UI,velocity to opens tabs\sites,global rendering and the ability to connect\sync same google accounts on phones,pc's,tablets etc..with so easy
dislike micro-lags in page's scrolling, more than with stock browser and no flash support (that's why i sometimes surfin' web with stock browser,a good compromise now on JB)

I'm a chrome fanboy usually and installing chrome was the first thing I did on my nexus never really look at stock browser. Now I browsed through the same set of sites first on chrome and after that on stock browser. It seems like stock is a little bit better with reloading pieces of the page when you zoom in and out a lot and scroll to areas where you haven't been before. Stock to me seems to react a bit faster. Maybe because it got an overhaul with Jelly Bean to and now it's JB optimized. Maybe this will change with future versions of Chrome.

Honestly I thought Chrome was the stock browser for jb. Pete's nightlies come with Chrome only.

the stock browser syncs all my bookmarks with chrome on the laptop and vice versa so stock browser works perfectly good me.

stock rocks the hell out of chrome..

I honestly hate Chrome on Android, love the desktop version.
The mobile version takes up way too much memory, sucks battery from my experimenting and just overall seems like a rushed product.
The JB stock browser was pleasant to use but it's going to take one hell of a browser to get me off of Dolphin HD.

I really like stock browser, but starts in jb i noticed that browser sync always gives me error. I think that's a hint from Google to move to chrome

So far, I've found that Dolphin Browser HD does not work. I too am using Maxthon though Opera Mini and Boat Browser are quality alternatives.

does the update still have ads on the speed dial? Or is there any way to remove them?
Boat browser was my favorite for my OG and its working great on the Nexus. Worth a true for sure.

I just did some testing among a few popular browsers on ics 4.0.1. I always liked maxthon and used it as my default browser. But to my surprise, both boat and dophin mini's scrolling are much much smoother than maxthon. I used www.openrice.com to test.
I also gave miren a run, it is somewhere in between maxthon/boat in terms of scrolling, but it's back/fwd speed is amazing. It basically caches the entire page and doesn't download anything again unlike other browsers. BTW anyone know why miren disappeared from the mkt?
Do any of them work with the browser sync though? That's definitely one of my favorite new features...
I was down on the stock browser in gingerbread, but how can you not love the new ICS browser? I love the labs feature from honeycomb (now implemented in ICS) whereby the menu pops up with swipes from the side. Brilliant.

miren is my favorite (or was, on my Dinc) but I too am wondering why it is gone from the market??
I absolutely LOVE dolphin mini.
Used it on my OG Droid, and it works wonderfully on ICS.
Set the user agent to desktop, and it flies!
so far, i've been using stock browser! pretty good!
I mainly stick with stock on this phone but for downloads I go with opera mobile never gives me an issue downloading plus its fast also
Maxthon looks good
I am only on day 2 with my G'nex but the browsers, native and Firefox, did not seem very friendly. Maxthon at first glance looks good. Glad to have found this forum to get ideas, thanks.
I've ran some benchmarks and Dolphin Browser HD and the stock ICS browser are about on par. Firefox is bad though.
Dolphin: 115k on Browsermark
Firefox: 70k on Browsermark
Stock: 110k on Browsermark
Why would you want to use a third party browser when the stock is the best???????????

I have been using stock but I will abandon it unless they provide a one-action route to the bookmarks. Currently the only acceptable method is saving bookmarks as widgets on the home page.

The stock browser in 4.0.3 has bookmarks on the quick slide feature. I wish the back button was fast like mirrn but I am going to have a hard time using a different browser. I absolutely love the quick slide feature of the stock browser and I always try to use it in the market place.

I hear you. Having gotten used to it on the Xoom, the application on the SGN was more intuitive for me. The trick is to just slide your hand from the outside of the phone towards the center of the screen. You'll see the menu pop up as you do so. But, don't let your finger leave the screen or it will disappear.

ICS and browsers

So I'm tired of using like 3 different browsers for different applications. I use Firefox because its what I use on my desktop and I like the look and feel. I use chrome for the simplicity and speed sometimes, going to try switching to chrome on my desktop, I liked the bookmark sync Firefox has I think chrome has it too. But not everything works on chrome... I have to use stock browser for things like checking my sub trust account. And then there's Opera browser I like because I can make everything in desktop mode. What browser(s) do you guys use and is there just one I might be able to use instead of all 3?

I'm currently using the stock ICS browser in CM9 and it gets the job done. Previously I used Dolphin Browser HD.

I think it is up to the user I used to use dolphin hd with the gb roms. But I have always been a fan of chrome so when ICS came out I switched to that and have no complaints I keep the stock browser installed just in case there is something that chrome cant handle chrome still is in beta I think. And the stock ICS browser is not that bad at all.

I have tried them all as well. I like Boat Browser. No flaky UI issues like dolphin, fully functional layout kinda Mozilla like. flash works great with it.
It is also very customizable. Imports bookmarks and is very fast. My $0.02 worth..
I like Maxthon. Give that one a shot. It has tabs and a nice fullscreen mode.
The only issue I don't like is the tooltips that pop up, and so far there is no setting to turn them off. They have told me they are working on that though.

Which browser works the best?

Hey guys, I've been reading quite abit ibn the forum and heard many people saying that is you compare chrome vs the Samsung browser, chrome drains more battery in general use? Is this true or a myth?

As crazy as that sounds it is true. The stock browser is power efficient. I have tested browsing on stock, chrome and Dolphin and it seems the stock browser is like 30% - 50% more efficient than the rest. I tested this in my Att GS3 but saw similar results on the GN1 also. Dolphin is the worst of you want to try it. I LOVE that browser even with that deficiency.

I use both the stock and Chrome.
I use stock if I'm opening a link from an email or another app, but it's good to have Chrome as it syncs with my laptop, so any tabs I have open on my laptop, or last had open, are easily accessible,
Plus all of my browsing and search history from the laptop. Very handy when you can't remember the page you were looking at before on your laptop.
Stock all the way. I save my bookmarks to my Google folder.. ..

You might feel Maxthon is best today, Boat the next day or Chrome the day after but you will eventually and ultimately come back to stock.

It's a Google browser.
So it syncs with Google just like chrome does.
Current Devices: At&t Samsung Galaxy Note, Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Asus Google Nexus 7 Super Tablet
Current Roms: Skynote 7 (Note 2), AOKP (Galaxy Nexus), Nexus 7 Stock
For me, it's still Dolphin or bust.

Dolphin drains my battery way too much. It's fast but I love the leanness of naked browser. Have you guys tried chrome beta.. rumor has it that it runs much better
I use chrome on my laptop too so it syncs between my phone and computer.
Actually, on earlier CM9 nightlies Chrome would choke and be unusable, but on AOKP and other roms, it'd perform quite well. I guess it might be a memory leak.
Not to try and discredit you in any way, but Chrome works fantastically for me. No lag whatsoever.

I'm running latest aokp builds and notice (and have noticed on prior builds) scrolling being jumpy and not smooth. I don't notice any lag in terms of page loading but the scrolling jumpiness is a real turn off for me. I stick with the stock browser.
Chrome works OK on stock roms and on PA, but I prefer stock browser. It's more stable and faster.

I used Xscope for years after getting my first Android, the first MyTouch, Boat browser was the first one that was able to pull me away from it. I kept trying Dolphin, Chrome, Firefox, Maxthon, Opera, UC, Puffin, Angel, ICS Browser +, all of them but it was always Xscope and now it's Boat. It's so fast, has everything you need and nothing you don't, support for flash, a few themes (i still use the default black though), it's great, I don't have a single bad thing to say about it.
I use Boat as my default browser, too.
The only thing is that sometimes, it takes a few attempts to select a link within the page unless I play with the zoom in/out and then open it in a new window.
Other than that, I really like my Boat.
I really like boat, but it crashes when I try to play flash contents. It works fine on firefox... I cant find any fix for it :/

I use Boat as my default browser. Tried Dolphin, Firefox, Xscope, Next, Ocean, Chrome, Stock, and others, but I always go back to Boat.
Boat browser has always been my favorite/"download" browser. If the download fails you can just push retry and it usually picks up where it left off. I once started a download at around 9 in the morning on 4g, it failed cuz I have horrible reception at work, and I resumed when I got home on wifi with no problems
I have Chrome, Opera, Stock, Chrome, Dolphin and Boat on my phone, and I always return back to boat. It's just great.
I use dolphin because of lastpass integration.
I have boat installed for flash sites
I tried Boat Browser because others have suggested it but I didn't see any advantage to it over Dolphin Browser. I also use the Dolphin Lastpass plugin; really handy! FYI: the new Dolphin Browser Beta supports Flash Player!
http://dolphin-browser.com/beta/
Boat Browser used to be a simple, clean, and intuitive er imo. Then, it got all big and fancy, adding extensionions, pro keys, etc... It's frankly just not the same.
However for those looking for something clean, I've given Next Browser a try... Not bad, but I do prefer Chrome (sans the lag - just gotta clear cache every now and then )...
