First, 4.0.2 is the latest version for the GSM GNex, right?
I thought it was... anyway. I got my phone yesterday and unloced the bootloader and rooted, but didn't install CWM or do anything else that actually required root. The phone did apply an OTA update, but I don't remember if it was before or after I rooted.
Anyway, it is now saying 4.0.1 and 'check for updates doesn't find anything'.
...so, that's wrong, isn't it? Any idea why? I thought rooting didn't mess with OTA (unless you start messing with things too much, of course).
Thanks in advance!
Oh, and it is yakju.
No only updated builds of 4.0.1 have been pushed to the GSM version.
4.0.2 was for the Verizon version.
Ah ha!
Thanks guys!
Just thought I'd mention that I am on a GSM GN and got asked to update to 4.0.2. today. There is a thread in general about it. I took screenshot too. But the update didn't apply right. I downloaded it and hit install and restart but nothing happened. hmmm...
Maybe I was offered it by mistake...
The thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395047
Given that JBQ posted factory images of 4.0.2 for the Maguro/Tuna build I think it's safe to say it's going to OTA. Multiple GSM owners have received the update notification.
Updates roll out SLOWLY and are flagged by IMEI. If your IMEI isn't flagged to get the update yet there is no number of checkins that will prompt you to download it. Normally updates have rolled out over a few weeks. This process was explained by someone at Google a while back. The OTA goes to a small group during which time they can ensure that it isn't causing issues. If that goes well it's expanded to a larger group and then subsequently all devices as it scales up.
GSM version has 4.0.2 update, but not pushed over.
i have manually downloaded the stock image from google and manualy flash it.
i am now running 4.0.2
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
what i did was,
backup my system (just incase).
Factory Images "yakju" for Galaxy Nexus "maguro" (GSM/HSPA+)
(all file extract from the 4.0.2 (ICL53F) image)
flash bootloader
flash radio
flash recovery
flash system
and reboot, and presto. you are on 4.0.2.
my experience, this does not remove all your data.
just similar to a upgrade for me.
a side note. i am running everything stock..
Dears,
I'm still using my galaxy nexus on the 4.0.1 version, I bought Mine from handtec and now using it in Bahrain
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Still on 4.0.1 sim free in UK
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm still using 4.0.1, imported from Clove to Spain
Still on 4.0.1, Bell Canada.
Still on 4.0.1, using an imported GSM model in the U.S. It originally came with yakjuwx, so I flashed the yakju 4.0.1 build. The phone successfully checks in for updates, but keeps displaying the "Your phone is up to date" message. Perhaps our IMEI numbers just haven't come up yet?
Germany, yakju 4.0.1 build. Still on 4.0.1. Checks for updates but it says its up to date.
Guess Ill have to wait ...

i have unlocked my device and rooted it, will it affect the OTA?
Still on 4.0.1 (ITL41D) yakju sim free UK. I may manually flash tonight, been waiting too long. Never had any OTA updates yet.

only when you change your bootlader, install cwm or a custom rom.

btw
is there a Email adress or something else to get in contact with google?
I think they have forgoten to bring the updates to all phones because 4.0.3 is arrived and 4.0.2 is "old"

Installing CWM recovery breaks OTA updates? I could swear I got the volume fix after I did this, but I might be mistaken. The update screen acts as though it is successfully checking for updates, but showing me up to date.
if you dont want to wait just get the rom from here http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
and flash with fastboot you can do it with out wiping the phone
If your phone is yakju and you have an unlocked bootloader you can just manually apply the update yourself. That's what I did and it works great. Here's a step by step: http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-update-your-gsm-galaxy-nexus-android-402-ota
Also having root or an unlocked bootloader won't stop you from getting OTA updates. You will lose root if you update OTA but the bootloader will remain unlocked until you lock it again yourself. Some custom roms have OTA's turned off but if you're still stock, you'll get the update if you wait. Give them some time, they're pushing this to all the Gal Nex phones plus 4.0.3 to the Nexus S. That's a lot of data floating around out there.

no problem to wait.so far everything works with 4.0.1. but it makes me a little bit angry that the nexus s get 4.0.3 earlier as my super new Smartphone galaxy nexus which is titled as new superphone by google and for ics.
and that i wait 5 or 6 days maybe longer to geht a update to a old version!

I'm pretty sure installing CWM doesn't break OTAs because the OTA would just write over the custom recovery. That's happened to me before on my Nexus S when I had it rooted with CWM recovery. After receiving an OTA it overwrote everything and I just chose to keep it that way.

mhhh ok. my fail
Me too, i'm still in 4.0.1
France
XXKK1
ITL41F
google brand
YAKJU
bootload open + root
What's wrong?
Why don't we had the upgrade ?
Everyone with a Nexus will get the update, just have to be a little patient. There has never been a roll out that didn't last for a couple weeks. They just started the roll out not even 72 hours ago.
I am in the netherlands and nothing yet.
Unfortunately, still on 4.0.1 sim-free in Poland...
Hello,
So I read some different topics on the forums and decided I would "convert" my Yakjuxw Galaxy Nexus to a Yakju one. So I did that, and kinda expected a OTA notice regarding 4.0.2 and got nothing. I've been running the device as a Yakju for 4 days now, and I'm beginning to think I did something wrong while converting it.
My question is though, did I do something wrong since I haven't recieved the OTA?
And what can I do to get the latest ICS version on my Galaxy Nexus while still being able to get OTA updates directly from Google?
Thanks for your time and Merry Christmas (For those of you who celebrate Christmas)
Why don't you just install the 4.0.2 ITL41F stock image from google.

Hi,
You didn't do anything wrong if your phone still boots! What happens with these updates a lot of the time is they are rolled out in batches, say 5,000 phones at a time. Not all phones will receive the update at the exact same time, and some phones can even go weeks before receiving the update while some phones may already have it. If your phone still boots, you haven't done anything wrong Just a matter of waiting. Or you can install a custom ROM which most of those are already on 4.0.3. This way you can always be on the bleeding edge
Best bet is if you don't mind backing up all your stuff is to simply flash 4.0.2 directly from the link provided by nabiladeeb
Also if you really want to make sure everything is ok do *#*#checkin#*#* from the dialler and download the GN update checker from the market and that will tell you if you are on the stock google build
Stopped rolling out 4.0.2?
I switched my phone from Yakjuxw to Yakju yesterday. I know the 4.0.2 updated rolled out a few days ago. Does anyone know if it's too late to get the OTA update without manually doing it? Anyone get the OTA 4.0.2 after changing in the last couple of days? Want to avoid erasing everything again by unlocking the bootloader...
Simply put id like to know if anyone in the UAE has gotten JB for their Galaxy Nexus. I woke up today with an update alert, and after applying it, it turned out to be 4.0.4 and not JB. Any hints on how to get it sooner?
If you're takju or yakju you should have it by now.
The reason why you don't have it doesn't necessarily depend on your location, it depends on what version of the firmware your phone has. I'm assuming if you bought that locally it's a non-yakju/takju variant. If you don't mind wiping your phone once to switch over, you can go to takju and receive OTAs quickly directly from Google from here on out. You'll remain "stock", you'll just be switching from one firmware version to the other.
Follow this guide to do so if you're interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
Thnx a lot
I'm also based here in Dubai and I bought my Galaxy Nexus from souq.com. It came with ICS 4.0.2 yakjujp (middle east) firmware variant so I manually flashed it with the ICS 4.0.4 "yakju" firmware to get updates directly from Google. I got the JB notification last week and upgraded over WIFI without problems. Here's the link to the guide in case you're interested -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
i have a GSM Galaxy Nexus and i'm rooted running the Thunderstick soft and chewy 4.1.1 rom. much to my surprise today my phone received an over the air update asking me to install 4.1.2 ; first of all, i didn't know a non stock custom rom could receive an ota update and i've been rooted on custom roms now since the beginning of ics and my phone has NEVER once ever before received an ota. especially now given that i'm already on a 4.1.1 and i got an ota update asking me to go to 4.1.2; so pretty surprised to put it mildly.
secondly i have GNofficial update app which tells me that my phone is either updated by google or not updated by google which i've found to be depending on what rom i'm using and currently my thunderstick rom makes it say i'm not updated by google. even if i wasn't rooted i never thought i would be updated by google anyway since i'm in canada not the united states and on some little ****ty carrier called Mobilicity. the last thing i ever expected was to receive an ota update. who sent it? Mobilicity? Google? i don't even have a clue where exactly this ota update is coming from. am i to believe that my galaxy nexus which came with android 4.0.1 originally out of the box and has never once before ever received an ota update would suddenly send me 4.1.2? so to re-cap that means if i had never rooted i would still have been at 4.0.1 and suddenly be getting 4.1.2 and in Canada and on Mobilicity of all things. so i'm super confused but that's not even my real question.
what i'd like to know is what will this update do to me? will it bring me from this beautiful exquisite custom thunderstick soft and chewy 4.1.1 to the STOCK 4.1.2??? and unroot me? it wont stop pestering me about it either, it just keeps prompting me do go for it! i checked on rom manager and there isn't a thunderstick 4.1.2 yet. mostly i'm very confused at even receiving it and that it keeps prompting me as if i have to do it or it wont go away. i could just imagine me doing it and then it sucking cause it's stock and not like thunderstick's soft and chewy which i've fallen in love with and then me going to the trouble of re-rooting and re-flashing thunderstick and then probably receiving the damn OTA all over again! has anyone else had this happen? why am i receiving a stock ota update when i'm already not even running stock?
is there a way i can make it stop asking me to install the ota update? can i make it stop appearing in the notification?
