I wanna ask, every time I post my write on every thread, I got this message:

All restrictions end at 30 posts. [GUIDE] How to be a New User (and not a noob)

It is not only a strict post count number, but we have other restrictions in place to prevent the ability to rapidly reach the limit. We have many spammers come in and try to hit the post limit, just to post links to whatever they are trying to spam. So it is not specifically targeting you, but just a general ruleset we have in place. If everything is good this restriction is automatically lifted.
Sorry for the confusion and welcome to XDA.

[FAQ] User signature?

Is there a way I can add my own signature on here? I heard that it is in USER CP but the option isnt there ...

This was an effort to combat spam, and it's had a huge impact! You'll be upgraded to a full account after a certain number of posts (5 - 8 depending on the feature)--it happens automatically. Sorry for the inconvenience

It may take time after reaching the 5-8 post limit for it to allow you access, this is because the process runs in the background.
And when you have enough posts, you can edit your Signature in the UserCP (on the left hand side called "Edit Signature").
Or just click here : Edit Signature

People / Bots were Posting generic messages, like "Thanks this is great" or in some cases, actual responses based on words in a thread. The post it's self was not spam (although pretty pointless), but the users signature would contain 3-4 links to an online company of varying levels of trustworthiness.
We used to find one or two of these bad boys a day. Because they didn't create new threads, nor did they make it obvious to the casual observer, they were getting away with it.
I have not seen one of the so called "signature spammers" since the rules were put in place.
Dave
I had the same question...this is an excellent way to manage spam users. Good job, looking forward to delving more into this forum and getting a signature!
I was a bit upset at not being able to have a signature. Thanks Daveshaw for explaining. Its indeed a great way to stop spammers.

I like and dislike the idea.
I just logged into my account to make post (have like none) so am sorta spamming to be able to post solutions to android revolution HD. /sarcasm. My post aren't spam but i'm going to get 8 before midnight tonight!
I can see how it helps, but jeez. Couldnt post in the developer forum for the audio fix solution I made.

But you could post it in General, and then help a few people out while you were there, in Q&A, if your device has one. Don't bother with useless posts, they will be deleted and you'll never get to 10.

Well, you might be right but its not that easy. You know I have experience in those stuff in the development forum, but I have no way to make posts there.
I dont wanna be a sort of spammer by posting stupid stuff to get all the 10 posts.
But this 10 post rule leaves no other way to accomplish...
To find a topic that I can make a useful post takes a lot of time.
If you can't spend the time to make ten legitimate posts before posting in the dev fora, then you don't deserve to post there. This is a developer forum, not a support website.

Oh really? I was a clueless noob total non-developer when I came here and I had no trouble at all helping people who needed links or a little guidance where to find the information they need. XDA works because people help those who help themselves. Do not post useless posts, they will be removed and you'll never get to 10.
Why did this thread get unlocked? Now it's more noobs that can't read and just complain again.

I requested that it remain open. I've helped out others with legitimate issues before here. Also, leaving it open allows mods to track spammers easily.

Request of removing the post restriction

Hi all, I am new here and I know everyone hate the spam users...
I posted a thread but I cannot post the links (even the links from xda is not permitted~)...
So without the links, which normally show the references and the sources, my thread will be hardly to understand.
Is it possible for the administrator to remove the restriction for me?
Many thanks.
conan_t
The restrictions lift automagically when you get to between 8-10 posts.

Welcome to forums
You need to arrive to certain number of posts so all XDA features can be unlocked.
Keep posting and you´ll get soon.
I was posting a solution to fix annoying wi-fi issues with Samsung Galaxy I 9000 with images but the forum is not allowing me to post ? I plan to contribute a full series of problem fixes with this particular device. Can any mod allow images only (no links to other sites) for my account ?

Can't edit post just after posting it

My profile is still new on this site, and therefore i must wait 5 minutes between posting threads / comments
however - if i spot a spelling error in my post, just after submitting it, i'm not allowed to edit the post until 5 minutes after !!!
couldn't this rule be deleted ? - not the rule of 5 minutes between posting, but the 5 minute rule of editing ?
Editing seems harmless compared to posting...

Unfortunately there were cases of spammers editing and adding links to get around the limitation, so we don't have much choice really as the spam would be overwhelming without it. I generally suggest a variation on the old saying, "read twice, post once"
It does end at 30 posts when you go from Junior Member to Member.

The 5 minute barrier isn't hard to live with - but i hope its gone soon...
but i fail to see why it would limit spammers...

Why 10 post before be able to post links ?

HI everyone,
I have found topic about 10 post before be able to post in dev fora.
but none about 10 post before be able to post links, so why a such policy ?
Don't just reply to avoid spam, we all guess that, but it could be possible to automatically monitor new user, and if the post a lot of link a modo will be alerted to check him, you could also in this automated function include banned/suspicious rule url. so like that modo will be notified before anyone trigger the alarm
Cya
Why?
Because that's how it is..
I mean is 10 post that much that you needed to open a thread for it ?

Thx but "Because that's how it is.." don't really reply to my question.
and no 10 post is not too much but when you want communicate an url at your first post (and without you post mean nothing) then yes 10 post is too much

As you may see that XDA is a huge site do it won't be very easy to moderate every new link new users post. Also, there is a restriction from posting in Development forum but that doesn't mean that spams are allowed in other forums. Most spambots have intentions to promote a specific site or advertisement, sometimes profane things, so as to check against it, this rule has been made. However, you are free to suggest something better of you have it in your mind

It is to prevent spammers from posting links. If you want to post it before then, you will need to post it like http: //xda-developers.com. People will figure out how to make it work.
Since you are new here, you may want to give this a read: [GUIDE] - XDA New User Guide - Getting started on XDA

Reactive checking of individual users is simply not possible on a site this size - spammers would spam to get their links visible for a few minutes. The simplest solution is to prevent users with less than 10 posts from posting external links, full stop. This puts off spammers.
