JB Stock Browser Quick Controls - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

In case you are a fan of the quick controls in the stock browser and on the newest JB 4.1.1, they revamped the browsers quick controls. I feel they added more functionality to it. Check it out if you are interested. In the stock JB Browser go to settings/labs/ and enable quick controls.

Its too bad chrome doesn't have these quick controls, reaching the address bar at the top with your thumb is a pita.

Yeah quick controls are the bomb. Been using them for while.

Agreed - This and the full screen mode makes the stock browser my favorite too!
Haven't tried the new Chrome yet, but last time I checked there was no full screen mode.

No!!!
Quick Controls are terrible.
Idea is good, but...
Either they must be much bigger. My thumb covers ALL the menu. Or... menu must not disappear when I release the finger.
Browsing between tabs is terrible as well. Thumb picture are so small..
Stock browser is good. It's fast and stuff. But controls - NO WAY!
Opera still rocks. Even if it's slow, formatting is wrong etc. But still Best GUI ever.

Even though I initially liked these, I realized that my case (Otterbox Commuter) prevents me from swiping in from the side, so it makes these very hard to activate successfully.
Back to normal controls, I suppose.

Personally i am against to all these battery drain weather/clock widghets ....i dont think they are even stylish. Google search bar FTW
If i had to choose one then i would go for Simi Clock.

Non removable Google search bar was the reason why I have to use non stock launcher ;-)
The good widgets have options so you can define how often to update weather, or disable it completely. I had to try MANY until found one I like.
Beautiful widgets is sufficient.

Here's a silly question - now I've removed the Google search bar to see what it looks like off, I've decided I prefer it on. How do I get it back?
I can't enable the app or redownload it. Is it gone forever, or is there an option I've missed?

You turned it off like this - Settings>Apps>All>google Search >Disable ?
Well, turn it on the same way! Disabled apps go to the bottom of the pile IIRC, so it won't be in it's usual alphabetical order position.

Best thing so far?
+ More speed, less lag. The new animations & rendering makes the phone feel noticeably smoother when launching apps or when the phone orientation changes.
+ The bug when syncing/uploading pictures from the gallery to Picasa is finally fixed.
+ Stock keyboard is once again improved. I sill use Swype, but I haven't installed SwiftKey because the stock keyboard does a very good job in text prediction.
+ Google Now. I find the search bar to be a lot more useful than it was in ICS. I even changed the setting in Nova Launcher to always enabled for the persistent search bar.
Only bad things thus far
- Facebook contact syncing is still crippled. I just use Friendcaster.
- Several apps I relied on when using ICS constantly crash, most noticeably Apex Launcher.
I'm on the fence with new notification tray. I can't find a setting or way to control what notifications are expanded or collapsed.

Favorite things

I'm currently running AOKP's JB ROM and I'm trying to make a list of the things that are TouchWiz exclusive that I wish would be part of any original ROM. And so I turn to you good people so get a feel for what I might be missing.
Here's what I have:
The ability to slide left or right over a contact to call or send a text. Love that
I really like the messenging app. Clean and simple. Very fast and responsive.
What else am I missing?

Yeah I have a feeling that will get reworked.
Double pull down sounds like cluttering to me, I hope not.
Seems ok. I would think of an alternative method to access those controls though. They are kind of hidden away to be fair. Maybe implement tabs such as in Sense or Miui.
cool i like it

Double pull-down for settings make total sense to me. One thing I don't like about the SIII and TouchWiz is with the quick settings and everything at the top there is less room for notifications (as the article points out). It also looks cluttered and it seems like there is way too much going on on the pull down menu. Plus I don't change my settings that often but when I do it's somewhat awkward to pull down the notification bar and then click the little settings icon. It would be easier to swipe down once for notifications and then swipe down a second time for settings. Or, what they could do is have two finger swipe down go directly to quick settings.
This is from a sense 1.0 rom. Obviously custom but works similar to the 4.2 2 panel set up.
Super convenient.
Interesting how much stuff the devs on xda have created that is merging into official android.

I was gonna say...yeah that's not a Sense 1.0 ROM.
It is. It was put together by tommy tomato for the evo 4G. It is called classic 1.0.
Quite possible it originated on 2.1. I was just showing people that have only used aosp stuff that is works really well with the double panel pull down.

This was a feature taken from newer releases of Sense that were brought to older releases. My first Android phone was an HTC with Sense 1.0...the toggles were never seen until Sense 2.1 got released, then devs got to porting them to older releases.
Not really a "classic" rom if it has a bunch of Sense 2.1 features...
Hey I didn't name it. I just used it.

I don't know about anybody else but I'm sold on the double notification bar. Seems like the best middle ground between notification widgets and the settings menu without obstructing the notification panel.

Smart Statusbar for AOSP ROMS

I got really tired of waiting for Samsung to release the JB update for my Bell Canada S3 and installed Task's AOKP ROM. I love the ROM and prefer the stock Google experience but miss some of the cool features Samsung added, mainly the ability to show the status bar in a fullscreen apps such as a game. Here is a video for those that don't know about this feature.
I have always been annoyed that i had to press the home button and exit out of my game/video to answer a text, change songs or whatever else might pop up on the notification bar and found myself using this allot when i got the S3, switch to AOKP i needed this back. Its just so simple and i'm surprised its not a native feature in Android.
But thankfully there is an app for that called Smart Statusbar which works well on my S3 and its free. I have tried this in MX Player and all my ga,mes like Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Dead Trigger etc and it works on all.
TIP: Swipe from the bezel down and not from the top of the touch screen.
Thanks for the info. I am downloading the app now and going to try it out.

this was one of the features i missed the most coming from iOS to android.
Thank you very much!
Nice find!

Hopefully not a huge necropost, but this feature actually wasn't removed.
You have to swipe TWICE in stock TW. I used this app for a while before discovering it here:

I'd have fewer apps installed, but to each his own.
