Can I flash CM 7.1 in Defy?

Sorry for being such a noob.
I had been using a Samsung Galaxy Ace and I am terribly disappointed with it's battery life even after tweaking it a lot after flashing CM 7.1 Grif's. I had a look into the specifications of Defy and I am actually quite impressed by them. And SGA and Defy doesn't differ much by price at all
But it's still Froyo in Defy and I don't know if an official upgrade to Gingerbread is available for Defy. Most importantly, I would like to know if I can flash CM 7.1 just like I did with my SGA using CWM 4?

between battery and support, i would go for the one with a good battery.

Dude. As long as you don't run stock blur, its fine. Defy is A LOT better than Galaxy Ace ( in my opinion at least)

Seriously don't go for Defy, OK we have great dev's and OK we have a good battery, but Motorola really SUCKS!!!!

I think I will do that dude. galaxy ace battery sucks to the core.my phone is just 5 months old and my battery lasts barely lasts 18 hours

Maybe software support sucks... but an update was never promised so you bought it knowing that before hand... hardware support is quite good for me as i damaged my battery (probably by taking it for a swim then opening the cover before it dries off), i contacted customer support, the toll-free service reps sucks, so i sent them an 'angry' mail and they sent the me the number of the regional manager, contacted him, sent my old battery in and got a free replacement... (am also from india)

Development of CyanogenMod 9 for Galaxy Y (Android 4.0.3)

Are there any Devs who are developing CyanogenMod 9 becaus I am looking xda threads from a November but till now i have not found any one found developing CyanogenMod 9 for Galaxy Y.
We need ICS and CyanogenMod 9 together for galaxy Y.
Galaxy Y has better specs than Galaxy Mini or Pop.
The same time to port unofficial CyanogenMid in Galaxy Mini or Pop is just going to pass. I have read that the kernels are developed for Galaxy Y just the porting time is left. Please if there is any Dev port ICS and CyanogenMod to Galaxy Y

Tough luck. Looks like everyone's busy for the custom kernel. Ports will be of later priority. Even the CM7 hasn't been ported yet.

dude custom kernel will help in the development of cm9 or 7 whatever thats why the devs are focusing on custom kernel

Galaxy Y is stable till 900 MHz but it becomes unstable after it.

Unofficial cyanogenmod 7.2 RC1 has bee ported from galaxy ace to galaxy y.................................merrock has posted it in android developement section of galaxy y.................it has many bugs .....it will be fixed in RC2 release...

most important even the gsm network is not working but still this is a huge step in the developement of our beloved sgy cheerss....

yeah,
i would say, just make a group and do work on currunt cyanogen 7 to make it stable,
by this way, we can get 9 also.
its better if someone make saperate thrd for developing it, and i am ready to be a volunteer for feedback.

vivekkalady has fixed many bugs
1)camera (not completely)
2)gsm signal
3)audio
4)1% battry bug fixed
5)packet data works

its not only the processor and ram has to decide a phones capability,but also th emanufacturer and performance ofthe gpu , as you can see not all games are optimised for y's gpu and the manufacturer doesnt sees to be havin the idea of releasing drivers for ics while drivers for adreno 200gpu for ics are released a month back. but there are some very good roms for galaxy , in my opinion creed v2.5 seemsto be the best ,you can get that from here

there is no OC kernel yet for SGY, still under development
no need to rush,
take your time,
i mean we waited for CM7 since SGY was released in Oct 2011 (yea we're desperate)

It was request from my buddies who own this phone, so tried...Anyways hoping for the best...

Hello everyone, I'm associated with custom roms for sgy. Recently I met a person, who had successfully installed an sgy custom rom in galaxy ace. These two phones are more similar than we ever thought. So, why not the other way around??? Interested devs could actually modify ace ics roms and install it on y, instead of fiddling with galaxy mini????
Fantastic idea, I know, bit not improbable ...Coz I still have the Guy's pm ....

Galaxy y roms can be installed on the galaxy ace i s5380i only by changing dpi and kernel but not on the original ace that uses the qualcomm processor and there is no ics for ace i

no one ever try that but similar method has been done a long time ago for cm7. all running cm7 for sgy is ported from ace. wifi dead, bluetooth dead, graphic buggy, etc.

As he said there are lot of bugs!! and by the efforts of devs it seems like fixing that is more tough than building a new one!!!

If ace has cm9, can't we port it to Y...both are arm v6 devices and d hardware is almost same too....

you might be not aware the problem. here is the analogy. i have two notebook. both have x86 cpu, both have same lcd size and same resolution. my acer one use nvidia gpu and my asus one use ati. i can install windows 7 on both, but i need different set of driver to make both running without issue. and the problem not only for gpu, but almost for everything. the only one component where both can share same driver is cpu.
in phone world the situation event much worse. in pc world we have ibm-pc compatible. none in phone world. different type using different component and different soc. armv6 only cover cpu side. the other side completely different.

yes but drivers are available for your ati gpu, your soundcard..
it will be something like a 'Frankalaxy' yes, but it would definitly be a start!
btw people must be aware of this but anyway here is an article on freeyourandroid/guide/porting-android .com [remove the space pls]
maybe this could help.
and yes the galaxy ace is closer to galaxy y due to generation of production
i.e mini/gio are old phones while ace and y are in the same generation.

As for buying the Ace II, I thought it was really worth it. I could play the games that I used to just see on the play store and it handles in-browser flash player very smooth on GB. It doesn't lag as long as you get the right kernel and rom that fits you. And making it a habit to clear ram when you've opened too many apps. As for JB, its cool that I decided to wait and not sell this baby because an official and stable build is coming in the near future. Also battery is enough to keep me satisfied throughout the day. Its pretty much perfect for the money you spend and definitely because it is the best smartphone on this price tier.

Ace 2 is a great phone! It just got jelly bean! It is a low cost hight performance phone which can do everything hight end phones can do! But I would suggest buying little higher end devices for example the s2 or s advance!
