This is more of a jellybean general topic and only applies if you live outside the US or don't speak English as your first choice
Even though you set up your country and local settings when you first boot up your tablet the offline voice search defaults to English US
To change it go to
Settings
Language & input
Voice search
Download offline speech recognition
Select which ever language you talk
English UK is 15mb
Make sure it is set as the default
On the voice search screen
Language
Select your language and if needed select your country

When I try voice search after this it still complains about lack of data connect ion...
Edit :I can dictate documents without an internet connection though'..
Thought I could set alarms etc while offline?

Just tried it on mine
Set alarm 8pm
Worked fine

i would guess you need the data connection to search.. the offline pack i would imagine would only be for things such as dictation.
Sorry I've just turned off WiFi and no I can't use voice search our set an alarm

I've been trying Jelly Bean on my GN for a couple days now and, while the whole experience has been awesome, there is a particular feature announced at I/O that does not work: the Search Assistant. You know, those Siri-like cards with info that show up after you perform a Google search while a voice reads them out.
Is that working for you guys living in the USA? What about those who, like me, live abroad? Does it have a geographical restriction? Is it just still not live yet?
Would welcome some help about this.
one of the option in the google now/voice thing is "use google.com instead of localised google". If you check that as 'yes' then you would get the cards with pics how up, but if you say "what is the weather" or "what is the time" it would always default to Washington DC, USA no matter where you are outside USA (And other issues like "what is the weather in waterloo shows me waterloo, USA instead of waterloo, canada).
that being said...
the voice search works fine otherwise with localised search. As much as it bugs me to not have those cards with the pic show up after a voice search, its mosly a "for looks" thing. voice search assisstant works perfectly however, it also shows cards (just not with pictures) for results as it should.

Not in my case. I asked it to use google.com, disabled using my location and even changed the language to US English, but to no avail. Maybe it just also works in Canada?

try turning it off and back on, or erasing data/cache for that app, sometimes resetting it does the trick.
Hm... no, no dice. What I would really like is to know if this is also happening to other folks in Europe.

Works "alright" here in the UK. I can set alarms, send texts and if I say "weather" it brings up the weather in my location as well as speaks it back. Also works for weather in other locations. Cards with images and data DO pop up, but it is a bit hit and miss. A lot of the time you just get a google search. However, the navigation if I have just searched for a place on Google works well. I done a search for an address earlier to see where it was in relation to me, 30 seconds later I had a navigation card informing me of the route a possible delays. I'm happy with it, when it works (which is most of the time) its a fantastic addition.

If you are still having trouble, you may want to check out this tutorial which made it work for me in Germany: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28043720&postcount=1
Interestingly, after I had google.com set as search engine, Google Now always thought I was in Washington and thus only showed Washington-based Information to me. Thus I switched back to google.de, now getting local information about my actual location. Google Now still works for me without having the search engine set to google.com

So I found out how to start google now but all it does is returning searches on google. It won"t let me use voice commands like send text, call this or that, navigate to...
I tried both my native language (dutch) which obviously wouldn't work, but english isn't working too. How do I achieve voice commands?

hold down the Home button, then choose the middle button on the bottom. This will bring you to the Google Now landing page w/o it being in the search field. Just say "Google" and then as a test ask it "What is the temperature outside" and see if you get any results.
hope that helps holding the Menu button goes to Google Now but puts you in the search box by default
Still no cigar. All I get is Google results...

hey, sorry if this is was asked before, i tried searching but couldnt find anything relevant.
Can anyone explain a bit how to deal with google now after JB update?
Now, when i hold the home button it opens with the search bar and some cards (weather for example).
But how do you tell it to "Set an alarm" or start a timer, or call a person from your contact list? I tried calling a person from my contact list by saing "call xx xxx" and it recognized the person name, but actually it did a search for nearby locations and called a number from the location instead of callin the person in my contact list.
Also, i was playing in the options and there was an option to say "google" instead of tappin on the mic, but now i cannot figure where it was.
Is it possible to have the default speak-to-action when holding the home button instead - siri like style - my guess is its not possible?
What language do you speak?
E: Go to google now and press menu button. Somewhere you should see offline speech recognision. Cards only work with the languages listed.

I already set it to English General (also tried English US)
Still cant find where that "say google to activate" option was.
Edit: actually i found it, when language is english general it wouldn't show, so its mandatory to be set in English US and it will appear.
Anyway, is there any way to have the voice interface by default when long pressing home?
Try setting system language to english too.

I just came from a Windows Phone and really missed the one touch voice dial, spoken caller ID, text read aloud and text by voice features. The default Google Voice Command on the One really frustrated me (long press home button) and I had to find a solution. After hours of searching and reading I happened upon Dragon Mobile Assistant. Wow! This Program has voice dial. text by voice, talking caller ID, text read aloud, open apps by voice, search, navigation, play your music and allows you to use voice functions while phone is locked. Everything can be accessed within two presses or totally hands free by voice in Driving Mode. It can even detect when you are driving and go handsfree automatically. It can also be mapped to your long press Home button. Sorry it doesn't map to long press on headset button as Google has this function solely, but in driver mode it listens for your voice wake up command so it's not a biggy for me. Best of all this app is totally free and I haven't even listed all it's functions. Check it out:

Cheers for the link.
I had just found it too and was about to post the link, lol
Downloaded the latest version and will try it later.
I had to download from the link posted here but any version i installed, crashed and didnt start at all. Thanks for trying anyway.
Every time I hit the Mic button it goes to S voice. I disable and enable Google automatic typing but no luck. Anyone else?
Same here. I installed Google Keyboard and Google Handwriting.
I personally switched to SwiftKey which is the closes to Samsung Keyboard. Have no clue why they took out Google voice typing and tried to make us use Samsung voice typing.

Noticed this issue as well! Samsung Voice is no were near as good or accurate as Google Voice. Very disappointed. They could have at least given us a choice!

I agree. This is a major issue for me. Especially since you can not disable censoring of spoken words in S Voice. Which is a MUST for me.
This needs to get fixed Samsung. I am considering returning my note 7 because of this. My S5 is still plenty fast. Just does not have a stylus.
EDIT: Ugh, the Google keyboard has no number line. That is a number 1 gripe that I have about phone keyboards. Switching back to the Samsung one....
This is the type of thing that would be no big deal if these garbage bootloaders weren't locked.

Leave a comment / review for the Google key board on the play store. I experience the same thing when i got the note 4 left a bag review and it was fixed on the later update release.
