I much prefer slim hard cases, typically seidio brand. I can't seem to find a good alternate. Quality is much more important to me than price. What do you guys suggest?
I'm on my fourth case and they all suck. One scratches the phone. One turns it off when I'm not looking. One fits too loosely, and one got all dirty the first day.
I'm going to buy this one next in silver. I like the fact that it looks like there's really no case and it got good reviews on the case mate site. I'll let you know how I like it if you want.

I've been using my case-mate tough case ever since they came out with them, and I can't speak highly enough about the quality and fit.

I haven't noticed any issues with the silver barely there case that I just got. But as far as protection goes, probably not the best one for this thread's request.
I also have a tough case, which I highly recommend for anyone looking for a solid case for protection.
Case-mate tough case is great, as someone allready stated I cannot recommend it strongly enough. You won't find a better case for the money or more imo

What about the body glove case? I was looking at that one for a hard case. What do you guys think about it? Anyone use it?
I have a body glove case and frankly it leaves alot to be desired. The case easily doubles the thickness of the phone, and with out fail turns out my jean pockets every time I use it. I'm not sure if i got a bad case or what but the case does not seal properly all the way around the phone. I have had the misfortune of dropping my case from table height (appx 3ft high) and the body glove case did protect the phone wonderfully. I have the full black and chrome case, not the clear back shell. I am in the process of deciding on a different case and thus far I am heavily leaning towards the case-mate tough case.
Mesh case. Love it... every other case makes a thin phone too large.

Hope that doesn't happen with the one I just ordered. But everything else you say about the case sounds great to me. I don't know how many times I have almost dropped the phone from it slipping out of my hands while pressing the volume or power buttons. Do the black Case-Mate cases have a rubberized feel to them?
My vote is for the bodyglove case. I have been through 4 cases and this far is my favorite. It protects gives the extra bulk and looks slick. It also has a kick stand which I use all the time.

Case Mate tough case for me. Silicone inside prevents scratches and tough plastic outside offers some protection from falls.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Here is a couple pics of the body glove in action. By the way it protects well I have dropped it a couple of times and the case comes apart instead of the phone breaking. I dont know how you wear your phone but I slide the phone in my pocket with the clip sticking out.
Trident Case for Samsung Vibrant
Got the TPU case, good fit, but feels cheap. Got the mesh case, looks decent but not much protection. Got tired of waiting for Otterbox. Almost got the CaseMate Toughcase but they only come in black or pink. Then I came across this last week. Check out the plugs and the buttons, even the back camera has clear cover over it. Liked the attention to details so pre-ordered it. According to the website, they're being shipped this Wednesday 11/17. Since I'm new, I can't post the link, here are some photos of the product. Just google Trident Cyclops Samsung Vibrant. Be sure to "Like" them on Facebook to save the $6.00 shipping. I wish ElementCase would make an ION3 or Liquid Carbon for Vibrant. I'm so sick of iphony and ipotty getting all the good cases.

I got my silver case mate barely there and it is awesome. I guess it is more of a looks than protection thing, but the front of the case is over the bezel so when the phone is face down there's still a gap. The silver is really good looking. Case mate also sent it the day I ordered, and I got it from GA to CA in 3 days.

Are you sure it wasn't just a coincidence? The complaints were about the chrome, not the metallic silver. I haven't seen anything, and my phono widget says the signal is as strong as ever.
I really like this:

- sorry - no outside links allowed on my xda account yet(?). You can figure out what shoud go in the spaces...
It's hard plastic with a rubbery feel. It's smooth enough to slide into my pocket and not pick up lint, but sticky enough that it can sit on my center armrest in the car without worrying about it sliding off.
There's also about a 1/16th inch high border around the screen that does a good job of keeping down any chance of a drop resulting in the screen touching anything the ground.

Figures!!! The upper left corner of the body glove case doesn't want to keep closed. I just sent an email to the seller for a refund. I'm thinking of just getting a extended battery with a rubberized back cover, and a new pouch to fit it.
Yea that's why I have the casemate now, hopefully you didn't order it on ebay there was this one seller that I bought it from and he would not repond to my messages about the case, also my bodyglove case won't stay closed at all anymore. I just think their quality control isn't all that great.
The tough case feels like abs plastic and is textured so it doesn't catch on pocket lining when you pull the phone out your pocket but it still feels good ib your hand and doesn't feel like its going to slout og your hands

Decided to take my case off today and take a look at my phone. The 2 seams where the sides are connected main body have started to leave marks on the hump on the back. Also the side above the volume buttons is a little loose because of the thin plastic so now I have slight scratches there too. Time for a new case.
I knew it was going to happen! I never buy cases anymore unless it's a flexible rubber type. A lot of these cases that are hard plastic often end up scratching phones. It's happened to me in the past so never again.
I have the same case without any scratches. I also take it out once or twice a day to make sure there is no grit in there doing damage.
The markings aren't that bad but you can see them in direct light. Hoping I can swap out the case tomorrow for something else.

Mine was still unscathed after 2 weeks with it. I also took it off every 1-2 days to make sure nothing got under it. I returned it on day 14 for the holster case combo at sprint since i needed a holster for work though.

I like it a lot. It seems simmer and the matte rubber coating feels nice and helps keep debris out. I don't really use the holster but it fits nice and snug. Makes my phone about the same thickness as a naked evo 3d.

No scratches for me yet either and I remove it often to check and clean out the dust inside.
That's what I feared from my Epic. I was, waiting on reports about scuffs before buying it
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
For me, the only scratching/scuffing I have from this case is are on the edges that are not protected by the case. Actually, I just looked and was going to take a macro of the scuffs, but I couldn't really find anything that would even show up on camera - there really almost nothing. And no damaged caused by the case itself.
Some pics of the case for those interested:
I had a feeling this case was going to scratch my phone in the long run, so I returned it after a few days. Both the TPU and Case-Mate are better quality.
Wow guys that sucks the phone does not deserve the scratches from this case did you guys try the aluminum case
It scratched mine. Only used it for 2 weeks. Not real bad but is noticeable if I ever sell the phone
I also had the kickstand case, but I didn't like the fact that it didn't cover everything. I've still got it sitting here since I switched over to a skinomi carbon fiber wrap + screen protector covered with a casemate tough case. I figure whenever I go to sell this phone it will look just as good as day 1.
I just bought the two piece black hard snap on case from sprint. I think its kind of weird there aren't that many cases available for this phone yet. It was one of the most anticipated phones of the year and I don't see any otterbox or high quality cases like that. That aside I'm happy with the purchase of this case. It feels nice in your hand and is of good quality. I had plans to buy the kickstand case but now I will stay away. Good lookin out guys.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
So weird. I only have a ding where it doesn't cover when I dropped it on a rock laid driveway.
I really liked the look of this but was afraid of getting scuffs because of the way it mounts. I ordered a Case Mate Tough.
i've had mine since day one, no scratches at all, and it does come off quite a bit as I still try to boot into cwm from rom manager and it just hangs, so I have to pull the battery...etc etc...
glad i did not get this case if it does this
Bought a back over and a aluminum bumper
can you post or pM me the link for this?
I'd be worried about a metal back prematurely wearing out the plastic notches it hooks to--as often as I do battery pulls when flashing, I'd want the latch tabs made of a softer material than the phone case itself, so that the way-more-expensive part doesn't wear out first.

I'd be more worried about the aluminum blocking reception to the antenna nubs directly beneath the currently-plastic cover; I also strongly suspect this isn't actually aluminum, but something made to resemble aluminum in appearance and tactility.
I'm actually more interested in a soft-touch plastic akin to the Droid DNA; if the HTC One had that (along with a removable battery and microSD slot), I'd be sticking with that phone.
+1, a slick shiny backplate looks nice but it's a real drop hazard. A rubberized one like on my old HTC Thunderbolt or Eris would be great for days I carry the phone case-less.
I got one it decreases the signal to unusable levels. Looks badass though.

This was my exact setup. I purchased the silver aluminum back with white border and a black aluminum bumper. It looked sweet. I didn't notice any signal issues. The reason I don't use this setup anymore is, the bumper was way too slippery. There was no grip at all and I was afraid the phone would slide out of my hand.
can you post or PM me the link of the product?

I bought the Aluminum battery back door cover and receive it yesterday ,put it in my phone and the signal drop! Damm it look nice but with weak signal and wifi I end up taking it out.

UPDATE!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300374
Got my silver aluminum bumper from AliExpress today and it looks great for the price. When I came back from lunch with my boss, this thing was waiting for me in my mail box. It was extremely well packaged from China and you can tell the package was beat up in it's week's journey. Shipping to me in TX from China only took a week and that is extremely fast for me. I was expecting a two week delivery time.
To the case: To quell any questions on call quality; I have placed one call with the bumper on since I installed it. And it works. No noticeable drops that I can initially tell. I'll update if anything changes.
My bumper came with a generic N5 screen protector, which I will not use, because I already have a spigen one installed. I proceeded in taking the included bag which had a philips type of screw driver and upon further inspection, the bag also have a few spare screws, which is always welcomed IMO.
I removed my tpu bumper and slapped this one on immediately. I first came across the bumper looking like it may not fit due to my dbrand cf skin. Being a bit thick, I was a bit worried. But with a little more wrapping the case closer to the outer bezel, the screw openings aligned up better than before. The reason is because of the little foam pads on the interior. Once you work it down a bit, you should be able to screw in the teeeny tiny screws with the included screwdriver.
Will it work on my orb charger? Yes! It holds up as I thought it would.
Does the little screw tab that reminds me of Florida really bad looking? No, when looking at the phone at its entirety, I honestly can say, I like it.
Does it protect the back camera? Uhhhh that's a no. There are ridges on the bottom of the micro USB port and where the headphone port is, but it is not enough to keep the camera lens to sit on the table. This will detract quite a few people. But keep in mind, this is a MINIMALIST case, not a Seidio or Otterbox or whatever bomb proof case that's out there now lol. All the openings are nice and big, except for the headphone port. If you have anything like a Shure E215 plug, you will need to use an adapter to extend the port or use another headset/headphone all together. Another issue, I kinda dislike is the opening for the power button. You have to really search for the button because of it being a cut out compared to buttons on top. I just got to get used to that feeling.
However saying that, I am 100% comfortable placing my phone flat down because I have a dbrand carbon fiber skin on my Nexus 5 backside.
Another bonus is that this aluminum bumper fits in my Seidio Dilex Holster for the Nexus 5 without any issue. The little tab on the bottom plays nice and I am one happy camper. :highfive:
Do I recommend this? For now I say yes aesthetic wise. Everything seems to work thus far so I really don't have anything too bad to say about it.
Pros:
It's thin
Aluminum color is sleek and sexy with my cf white dbrands skin
Ok with wireless charging orb (will test out Tylt Vu later on as well as the Nexus Wireless charger in my truck)
Cons:
It's thin
This bumper will not protect the camera lens when laying it on it's backside.
The lil "Florida" tab where the screws are. Even though not a dealbreaker for me, it's still a slight 'con' in my book.
Pics below. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll field them if I am not working
Thanks for the review, I will probably buy one. Does it seem like the metal would be able to scratch the screen where or makes contact?

Yes I have used the Nexus wireless charger. I have it installed in my truck in conjunction of a Kenu Airframe that mounts to the vents. It clears Kenu Airframe so that the magnets can catch without much issue. And bumpy Texas roads and highways are no match thus far. But don't go off roading lol.

Not too good with measurements with that size, I'll try lol. To me and my ruler, it looks like 6mm? I'll attach a pic.
Reporting on a half day of full use of the Aluminum bumper. I really do like the look of it and fits in my Seidio Dilex holster securely. However, I have to report in that if one has a dbrands back like me, I have a white carbon fiber back, it may bubble up a bit depending on how you put on your back and if you used a blow dryer on the edges like dbrand suggested. I did do that, but I did find a slight bubble/rise on the corner where the screws go in. Also, you can see that the bumper does not fully wrap around like a tpu would because, this is really not that flexible. I'll post some pics and hopefully you can see what my OCD eyes can see. As for the lil bubble, I'll need to do a follow up blow dryer event when I go home for lunch and see if that makes it go away or not. Not really all concerned with the bubble, I can hardly see it and I can learn to live with it if it doesn't go away lol.

I agree, but I am ok with it. I mean if it was naked it would have the same issue. However the dbrand back is protecting it from scratches so I am ok with that.Drop protection, I don't know, even though the box does mention drop protection on corners lol.
Can you comment on your cellular connection with it on.
Have you done any speed tests with and without it.
I mentioned in another thread that I had one on an iPhone and it did not do well, but the iPhone antenna is around the device, different than the Nex 5.

No I haven't done speedtests on it. But I am getting full bars LTE right outside my office, which is pretty much on par with what I normally get. I have to admit, I do think it affects the antenna slightly, but not to the point of dropped calls. However, I do not have anything to back up this theory.
I'll report back later on to see if my wife said she called me and I didn't answer or what have you.

Because you asked and I don't feel like working on my next project right now lol...
Without the bumper on, the phone went to lowest LTE at -112dBm
With bumper on, the phone went to H and jumps here and there, but didn't stick and settled on 3g (or UMTS) at -101dBm.
So my initial feelings are correct that it does hinder reception but I am still connected. Well in the office anyway. But I used my phone at lunch with co workers without issue. I was getting emails and notifications while I was out.
unfortunately, I barely get signal in my office so I can't really get this :/ I wish there was a good looking bumper that has same look/feel as this one but made of a different material that would not jeopardize the signal quality.

No not so much, but after my first Seidio Holster broke, I have been running it naked and got used to its slim design. This was minimal bulk that still showed off the back dbrand skin goodness and also helps with any corner bumps. Which I have to say it did do its job the other day when I knocked it off my charger in my truck.

I have to add, which I didn't in the OP, is that I did add a bit more for a tracking number. I think the extra shipping cost less than 3 bucks.
I am thinking about getting a case for my phone, but I also want to get the leather back, but it seems like a waste to put a case over the leather back. Do you guys think a case is necessary to protect the phone?
It is a waste if choosing a back case. But a hybrid kickstand case is a good choice for your g4.
have you considered a bumper case so you get the best of both worlds?

get a bumper.
you won't have to worry if you drop your phone on the front, sides or the corners, and your leather would get as much wear as if you're going naked.
Yeah I didn't even think of a bumper. Can you guys suggest some good ones?
yes, case is necessary for me. and i am using a wallet type leather case and it's function is useful for me.
A case is not necessary if you're careful in general. That's me, but dropping your phone is practically inevitable. If I don't drop it, someone will do it for me.
Naked is always the prettiest choice, but you gotta protect your investment.
I bought a bumper, the QuickCircle, and a wallet case by Goospery.
I dig the aluminium bumper because it's discreet, but it doesn't protect the back cover that bulges out.
I like the QuiCircle flip case because it actually adds functionality (and wireless charging in some cases), but the flipping is inconvenient to me and it hides the phone
I like the Goospery wallet case beacuse of the colors and wallet convenience, but it's HUGE, it adds at least 2 cm in height to the phone
In all honesty, I'll be playing around with them, but eventually I'll go back to naked
Hope this helps
Edit:
Aluminium bumper
QuickCircle
Goospery Wallet
I got the leather-backed model, so putting a case on it sounds a bit like a waste.
No case or anything for me. I'm waiting to find a good bumper that hours on and off easily add I plan to replace the battery semi regularly. I have yet to find a bumper that goes on and off easily yet though.
I bought a cheap rubber case from Amazon (£1.50). I have the plastic backed phone so no worries about the leather but the case gives me a little more grip and a little more protection without adding much bulk. It'll do me!
I think a case is an absolute necessity. But I just have the plastic-backed phone. I wouldn't want to cover up the leather back if I had it.
I LOVE the Slim Exact Fit Hard cases. Especially the Incipio Feather because it has a nice soft matte rubbery feel, but they don't make one for the G4. Instead I have the Spigen ExactFit case. It fits exactly the same but the finish (while matte) is slick, not rubbery.
But YES a case is needed. As little protection these "slim" fit cases provide, they do a whole lot surrounding the phones body. I have dropped mine, slid it across a parking lot, and all kinds of stuff. They do help keep the phone body from getting scratched and dented.
They are like $6. Well worth it. I have sent emails to Incipio to try and convey them to do a Feather Case.
Yes a case is necessary, I dropped my g4 2 days after i got it thank god i had a case on it
Had my g4 for a week and it slid out of my pocket getting out of my truck yesterday. Cover fell off and battery spilled out and everything and now my shiny new phone has a mean scuff on the very top left corner ((
I'm looking to get a metal bumper now.. Just wish there was one of those fancy Japanese brands available for it but do they even sell lg phones in Japan?
It is not necessary if you have lots of money to change phone every month.
Case is absolutely essential. The brown leather is really slippery compared to the plastic back, I managed to launch my phone within 2 days of recieving it. The screen may have survived the impact with a case - the plastic surround certainly wouldn't have had chunks gouged out of it...
The encouragement of going without a case so that the leather wears is going to cause an awful lot of broken glass.
Yes, a case is an absolute necessity if you want to keep it safe from drops. I recommend a Spigen hybrid or something similar that can shock absorb. I had a slim hard case on my nexus 6 and after a relatively minor fall it cracked. My insurance wrote it off and gave me a cash payout. I gut a neo hybrid straight away for my G4. Breaking your phone and having to wait for insurance is a right ball break.

I usually go with a case, however I feel that the G4 with a case will be a little too large for my hands.
For me the look of deep blue back is too nice to just cover up. I've opted for no case this time as the phone feels very nice in hand.
I do want to state that the shiny metal band has already shown scratching already.

You never need a case until you actually drop the phone.
